Joe and Dan, thanks so much for getting coffee, juice and lemonade, and the
doughnuts for this morning!!  I really appreciate the help in here.

Dan, I take a couple of long johns w/chocolate frosting, bavarian cream for
breakfast.

I'm taking orders for the pizzas tonight.  PLEASE have your pizza orders
in to me by two p.m. EDT, so i can start preparing them to go into the
ovens by about 5 p.m.

Everyone have a nice day, and remember to be careful and stay safe
and sound out there today.  Don't get too hot out in the sun, either!!

Good morning everyone!

Dibs on the Supreme pizza for tonight's pizza fest. Dinner [dinner]

I wonder how many people are going to look for the final UP Heritage SD70ACe locomotive in the Southern Pacific heritage livery, which is supposed to be officially unveiled on August 19, 2006 in Roseville, CA? I live near enough that I might try to find that locomotive on that day. Big Smile [:D]

Good Day All

So much has been going on that I have been busy and not getting into the diner here lately.  I have not been sleeping well either.

Well here is the latest update on Duchess.  The appointment was yesterday and the vet seemed to think she was doing some better and that was before he drew blood.  When he did draw blood and got the results he was looking at about 3 or 4 things.  One of the levels he monitors was still way to high for his machine to read and he said that was not good.  Another item, in the blood, was still very high but at least this time it did give him a figure and he said that was a step in the right direction even though it was still very high.  Another item he looked for was also still high but did give a reading this time.  All in all, he said there was some improvement and was encouraged.  He said she is not out of the woods yet but things are definately looking up.  He said to continue with her meds and special $2 a can food and come back in 2 weeks.  So far it has cost me about $250 bucks but she is still alive and alert so I think she may recover.  We just have to get some better results on that one item, of course the other 2 readings are still high but hopefully will continue to come down.

We had one heck of a rain last night.  Another one of those hit and miss but extremely heavy storms where it did hit.  The rain and wind was so strong that one guy commented that is  how it was during a hurricane.  We tried to work the pits, which have a roof over them, but the wind was so strong it blew the rain into the pits and we all had to go iside.  I am not sure of the rain amount but a lot of it was runoff because it was so heavy an amount while it did rain.

I have not had time to read any of the other posts so I hope all is well with everyone.  It certainly is nice to have Willy stopping in to visit.

Everyone Take Care

Gus was pleased to hear Dutchess' progress. ( If the $2.00 a can stuff is Science Diet, it came out the former ATSF Purchases & Material Department (PNM) warehouse in Topeka.). Still trying to put some weight on an almost blind Andy here.

Okay, looks like I've gotten a couple of suggestions
for the SATURDAY NIGHT PIZZA FESTThe pizzas on
the menu tonight are:

1.  supreme
2.  pineapple & pepperoni
3.  sausage & pepperoni
4.  goetta

If anyone wanted a different pizza, well, you should
have made your request before now.

Everyone enjoy your pizzas, and have a great evening.

SPECIAL NOTICE: Talked with Nance69 earlier,
and she wanted me to say "Thanks for the
birthday wishes.  She should be in later
this evening, to express her thanks to
everyone herself; but she wanted me to say
"Thanks everyone" for her.

Jim- Thoughts are still with Duchess - I can identify with that somewhat as my pup was hit by a car three years ago.  One of the vet techs wasn't at all optomistic about her chances, but she's laying here next to me as I write this.

Missed the Rochelle Fest (via computer) as I spent the day looking at antique boats (and the people who were looking at them, some of whom were very watchable...).  Probably one of the premier antique boat events in this part of the country.  I heard bids at the auction approaching $30K...  Dodge boats were the feature this year, for those who may have an interest.

Off to a family reunion tomorrow - after we help an neighboring fire department burn a house....

Some cold pizza sounds good about now.

Did our reunion today.  Had a great time.  Ate too well, especially desserts.  The littlest kids, including my two granddaughters (one of whom was the littlest of all), stole the show.  I have a niece who "grew up" and slimmed down since the last time I'd seen her.  Sigh [sigh]

Tomorrow it's a wedding--one of my younger daughter's better friends, who (1) was the daughter of my daughter's piano teacher, (2) played the harp at my older daughter's wedding, and (3) whom I helped calm down during a very trying few minutes when she was late for a concert performance.  Sigh [sigh] again.

Good Morning All,

CW, the Pizza was excellent last night! Thank you!

Think I'll head on over to the warmer bar for some brunch.

Was planning on heading out for some "golden hour" sunrise shots (Brian inspired me with yet another bit of lovely lighting), but Alas! woke up to find some very grey overcast skies. Oh well, we'll see what the rest of the day brings.

Hope you all have a great one!

Sunday Dinner is now on the warmer bar.  There's plenty, so
everyone PLEASE eat up.  For the latecomers tonight, there's
also plenty of fried chicken, mashed taters, etc. in the
fridge in styrofoam containers for you to heat up in the
microwave.  Joe, there's also a couple of containers w/your
name on them, for you to take to work tonight.

Desserts today:  got some fresh strawberry cheesecake from
the Kroger deli, and there is also a chocolate cake, and
a white cake w/caramel icing.

Chris and Brian, no need to worry:  I made enough chocolate
cakes to last a month, so Mookie and everyone else who loves
chocolate, won't be left out.  There's plenty of chocolate
cake for everyone!!  As a matter of fact, all I have to do,
is to take two chocolate cakes out of the freezer each night,
so they'll be thawed out the next morning.

NOTE TO SELF:  GO TAKE TWO CHOCOLATE CAKES OUT OF THE
               FREEZER, PRONTO
!!  Okay, that's been
               taken care of!!  Whew!!!!!!

Speaking of cakes, we had an interesting situation at the wedding reception we just returned from.  Each table (of about 14 or 15, not counting the head table) had a cake on it.  All looked the same on the outside, but there were four different types of cake, and three different types of filling, in all possible combinations, underneath the icing.  We hit the jackpot, as far as I was concerned (strawberry cake with Bavarian Creme filling), but wife and daughter both went out looking for chocolate cakes to trade for (trading was encouraged!).

Chris and Brian, I mentioned that our bride was a harpist, but we were pleasantly surprised to hear a couple of her recordings at the reception.  One was an arrangement of Smetana's The Moldau for solo harp, and another featured her as soloist in Gliere's harp concerto--as far as I'm concerned about the best harp concerto that nobody ever hears (and everybody was surprised that I knew about it).

Well, it's the end of a long day.  After burning a house in the next town (intentionally), I had to whip up some potato salad and head for a family reunion (the leftovers are in the cooler). Got there and had to call my daughter to remind her to come (she'd forgotten).  A good time was had by all, but the principal organizer announced that after 10 years, she just wasn't up to it any more and this would be the last one (at least organized by her).  Of course, many of the past attendees have moved out of the area, or just plain aren't in good health any more.

Back to the grind tomorrow.

Evening All,

Well, the weatherman decided that it was appropriate for the only sunshine of the day to being around noon for high sun (which I try to avoid if possible). <Sigh> I guess there's always next weekend. For a city that gets 300+ days of sun every year, we've been managing to have an awful lot of overcast days lately. And they always seem to be on the weekends around sunrise or sunset. Go figure!

Carl, I'm not sure that I can think of one piece by Gliere. Will have to do some scouting around Borders next time I'm up that way. I need to get some more Chopin CD's, too. I'm not sure how I managed to ignore most of Chopin's work my whole life. The more I hear, the more I get hooked. The complexity and the emotion in each and every piece are amazing.

Well, seeing as though we have plenty of the chocolate cake, I do believe I'll help myself to a little piece. Hope you all have a great evening. TTFN!

Reinhold Gliere's greatest hit was the "Russian Sailor's Dance" from The Red Poppy ballet.  The Harp Concerto is different enough that you'd never put the two together.

Interesting that you should mention Chopin, too--I picture this bride (and have for years) every time I hear a particular Chopin prelude, and I remember one recital in which she played the "Always Chasing Rainbows" etude.

(Julie is quite the musician--besides harp and piano, she has at least four other instruments she plays well, and, we found out today, she has a good singing voice, too.)

Hey - The hammock is all wet!

Joe - This reunion was well attended for a number of years.  There were over 40 just last year, but just 25 this year.  The young folks are just moving away, and don't have time to come back for a reunion.

I'll be in the corner booth with my tea, bearclaw, and the crossword puzzle.
