Yes, Ted and Joe, watermelon does sound good! Ted, from now
on, I'll remember you like 1/4 of a pie. I'm kind of that way, myself, when
it comes to chocolate pie, or pecan pie.

And Mutt is kind of like that when it comes to lemon pies.

Just returned from the Memorial Day activities I was honored to attend with a invitation from V.A., Am. Legion, and AmVets. Worked up a humungus apetite for that "wedge" of fresh coconut cream pie you did Cherokee. Let's make it a tad more than a 1/8 of a slice..a quarter of the pie would be more like it. Eolafan, hope all is well out your way, I forgot to say thanks for the welcome. What in the world is going on around Philly CSXrules? Sounds like one of our Fl. hurricanes blew off course. Whenever I got to town, I would take a jaunt on the old Girard street car line and a quicky "out and back" on the Red Arrow (German Town) or the subway to Trenton (daytime only). I never had time for longer "run-outs." Like I say, "if its steel on steel...!" I used to hop-off the Amtrak in Philly from Baltimore to get a last breath of fresh air before N.Y. City. Hey, is Book Binder's still cooking up a storm (no pun intended)?

I'm still partial to the old B. & O. and rode from Balto. to Chicago (round trip) every Xmas for years 1981 thru '86'. From Chi Town, it was "Santa Fe All the Way" to Kansas City, Mo (once on the Super Cheif) then change to either Frisco or Texas Cheif to Tulsa Ok. One heck of a trip but I always ran out of money on the club and dining cars before Tulsa. That's okay, getting there was all the fun.

Its a little late and if I have any more Java, I'll be up all night watching "Leave it to Beaver" or some such rubbish. Hope to keep the chatter going real soon but for now, stay well and safe over the weekend. And yes, that is the best thing that's happened to a Coconut since Captain James Cook got conked by one of the Aloha Gang. Happy rails folks.

They threatened us with rain here all last week (what did I care? I was in FL...) but the ol' personal weather station showed we got all of .02". TWC is showing us in "scattered thunderstorms" area tonight, but the only rain on the radar is well south. Not that we couldn't use some. The lawn is already looking a little toasty.

I'll skip the lasagna for a hamburger and fries, with some watermelon for dessert, but that garlic toast does sound good right about now... with a good cold glass of milk...

Reminds me of something I used to make to go with spaghetti when the kids were both home - heated up the Corning baking pan with butter and some garlic in it, then cut strips of dough about an inch wide, placed them into the pan (quickly - as soon as they hit the hot pan/butter they started cooking) and into the oven for a bit. Talk about good! There were never any left at the end of supper....

Back from Michigan a little earlier than expected. Saw no trains while I was up there, and only caught a glimpse of one on the way back in.

I'm pretty well stuffed from bridal-shower food and the like, but would appreciate a bottomless glass of Diet Dew, please!

Ted, welcome! You show great taste in your admiration of Sarah, IMHO! I'm her mentor, so to speak, in matters of railroading and classical music, and am very proud of her.

I WANT SOME BROWNIES!!!!!!!
Ted D. Kramer like CW said it's good to hear from you and I must thank you very much for telling me that I have good taste in music. Many of my "young friends" think I'm nuts for liking trains and listing to classical. lol.

Ok something interesting happend only about 1/2 hour ago here in the greater Philadelphia region. We received an unexpected down pour!!!!!!! It was rough, the wind gusts were up really high. Anyway, I was listing in on the scanner and learned that on Septa's R2 line between the stations Ardsley and Roslyn there were down lines and no power. The fire department and police were on the seen. The grad Xing at Roslyn station which crosses over a major two street intersection was ineffective, so are the traffic lights. A train is stoped at Ardsley due to lost power. So, Septa decided to send one of their diesel's # 51 BL1500 to pull the train from Ardsly to Glenside engine. Engine 51 just a second ago said that something is wrong with the locomotive because their top speed is only 5mph at full throttle. So 51 is on a siding about 5 miles from picking up the lost power train. What a bad day for Septa. All of the passangers are off the train and being bussed. I just heard now that power is suposed to be back on line on the R2 in 20 mins. YEA RIGHT with they way PECO runs they'll be lucky if they get power by nightfall!!!!!! lol

Ted, good to hear from you. Got some coconut cream pie right here.
You want a big pie wedge, or an eighth of a slice? Think I'm going
to fix some brownies after awhile. Maybe we'll have them later on
tonight, as a late night/bedtime snack. And yes, I WILL hide
some so there's plenty left for tomorrow and Monday!!

The lasagna and trimmings will be ready in about two hours.

Thanks for the hearty welcome and fantastic Tex Mex platter Cherokee. CSXrules, you have fine taste in music and, from reading your profile, that goes for just about everything else. Its always nice to hear a friendly "Howdy" from folks who are "into" trains as much or more than myself. Since this is a special Holiday, I thought I'd wish all of you as real safe and fun get-away from the normal grind. Of course, in our own way, remembering those of yesterday and today who make these free and easy get togethers possible without fear, are the "main event." Hope to share some rail experiences with you guys in the near future. Most of mine have been in the Mid West and East but if it's "steel on steel," and rolls; I'm "in on openers." Hey, play it safe and have fun (yes, both are possible) 'til next time when I hope to get a wedge of that coconut cream pie and a "slug" of the best "Joe" in town. Happy rails folks.

As CW said,we definitely will be open, even if the 'real' railroads
don't run that much traffic on the holiday, the 'layouts' in
the Diner will be going strong!

Good morning!

As somebody who doesn't get a holiday weekend (at least none than I know of yet), I'll say that I'm jealous of all of you out there.

I have to work today, take a vacation day tomorrow (daughter's bridal shower, in Michigan), then work Sunday. Don't know about Monday yet. So I don't expect to be around here (or anywhere else on this forum) tomorrow.

Just had a thought--my days off are Tuesday and Wednesday--if they annul our jobs on Monday for the holiday, I'll get that holiday weekend, after all!

Please, never forget those who served.

Yes, may each and everyone have a SAFE, MEMORABALE
Memorial Day. Remember to honor all military personnel,
past, present and future. They are putting their lives on the
line 24/7/365, trying their best to bring good to all parts of
the world we live in, not just here in the "Good Ole U.S.A."

It was nice to make the long overdue lunch with Tom. I am not a good person to put on a welcome committee, as by the time I would get my act together, the guest of honor might have already come and gone. I am glad to report that Tom and his family are happy with the relocation. Among other things, what's not to like about a seven minute commute from home to office.

The only bad thing about being retired is that you don't get to take any holidays off. However, we will be at the home of friends on Sunday for good food, beverages and conversation. Hope everybody has a good holiday.
