Mookie, SO SORRY! They truely become one of the family. Got Harley (the wonder mutt) in 91. Dad, she's soooo cute and I'll take care of her. She's been here longer than two wives and the kids. Makes a good trainroom partner, doesn't say much, stays out of my coffee cup most of the time, but not very good with a controller or throwing switches . Must be something to do with opposable thumbs. Hang in there Jen, she'll always be in the important place, your heart.
CW- how's the back? Hopefully better. Tell mutt thanks for e-mail Willy

Ted,

I heard Ein Heldenleben live a year or so ago; my daughter's college orchestra performed it in a brick-walled church. I actually had to cover my ears during the battle scene. (This is one score I'd studied fairly extensively in music classes at college.)

It's morning! Where is everyone?

We had a 3:30 am strong thunderstorm go through - headed east. So grab an umbrella. It quit just before I left the house at 5:15, so just a quick one!

And on a personal note - eyes leaking today.

Real Mookie gone - 6/2/05 - RIP old friend.

Willy,
We didn't/don't want to change, but Dish has wronged us very badly, and does not want to take responsibility for their mistake.we have been working on this for about
3 months,along with our bank,and they won't do anything.So we are changing
service to Direct.
And BELIEVE Me it was their mistake! But as with most companies that big
they don't want to admit they did anything wrong! However we have flaming proof
that they did wrong;we may have to enlist Gabe's services to fini***aking care
of this.

Afternoon all! CW, I've got plenty of Vicadin. Just hold your hand up to the screen. I've got an open ended prescription from reg Dr. for before surgery, one from ER for the kidney stone incident (as it has been named) and one from the surgeon for knee. Mama uses them for migraines too. Right now I'm doing 2 every four hours. They're keeping the pain down but I'm afraid they'll have to put me in rehab when all is said and done. All those little 52 year old aches and pains are gone but I'm sure they'll come back with a vengence when I stop taking these. The C&D are fantastic!!! [bow][wow]
Keep em' coming, I'm up for seconds tonight.
Ted, after 3 days I'm starting to master these crutches. Rule # 1- NO BIFOCALS!
Did the garbage bag routine and finally got a shower after 3 days. Harley (the wonder mutt) wouldn't even lay on floor next to me on couch. [(-D] She can't figure out why "Dad" needs these aluminum things to walk.
CW lie down and let Joe do cooking for a couple of days. What are you and mutt changing to? We switched from Di***o cable on one of those specials, and although I liked the programing better, we always had trouble with cloudy days, rainstorms and the like. It went out one day so we called Dish and the operator sat there arguing we me that we had storms in our area. It was 72 and sunny. We swiched the next day and I will never go back. Besides, I would have to go back to DSL on computer.
Well, knees starting to ache so that's my cue to get back on the couch and get it elevated, so we'll yak later. Willy [:(]

Joe, thank you so much for taking care of supper for me. I've done
so much today, my back is killing me right now. Had to take
a break and come into the diner. I'll have a slice of pie right now,
just for the energy!!

Mutt is correct: we are having a change in our satellite service
tomorrow. We're both sick and tired of dealing with Dish Network,
and them being a****! So when we got an offer through our
telephone company to get a discounted rate on DirectTV each
month, we decided to go with them. So I've been busy moving
everything to make it easier for the tech tomorrow to install the
DirectTV.

Joe,
I know CW will thank you,but I'm going to now; Thank You for doing
the supper menu.
That sounds very good for supper!!

Yes she has been very busy today, and in a few moments I will be
joining her being busy also. We have several things we need to get done
before tomorrow.
We are having a change around the house tommorow;you know, we'll
be here between 8-12,or 1-5 deals.
Don't get me started as to why we are doing this,CW can tell you all
some more later. It has to do with being wronged by a certain company,
who will no longer have our business. 'nuff' said for now.

NJMike,
Thanks for the crossants, but juice and coffee have been out since
about 4:30 this morning.
And I believe we can understand why you haven't been in as much;
School and education are MUCH more important than this. (although,
you might get some education by hanging out with us older people.)

Larry,I should have added to my post, that the tornado that hit Xenia,Oh.,
was one in the same chain that hit Louisville and surrounding areas.
I remember that Xenia had a high death toll also.
Also,if I'm remembering correctly,there were 17-18 tornados to break
out in that time span.(in the Tri-State area)

Andrew,I've seen more than my fair share of tornados and high winds.
While I was in A.I.T. in the military in 1972,at Ft. Rucker ,Al.,A hurricane
had gone through(can't remember name)but there were hundreds of
airborn tornados spawned from the hurricane;thankfully none actually
touched down.
While I was in the Guard,my position (slot) was unit crewchief,so I got
called up for several missions to scout out the damage.
Not to brag,but I've been awarded the state active duty ribbon 4 times;
3 of them for tornado duty.(that and 50 cents will get me a cup of coffee.)

I have seen some of the tornadoes in photos and in videos. Texas seems to get the nastiest ones and very frequent. They seem to like to break out near Fort Worth, Waco, Witchita Falls, Temple and Amarillo. Although they will break out many other places too including around Houston.

A friend of my parents is a nurse in Houston and he says they often get "green skys" with the thunderstorms and sometimes he can see the clouds churning violently like boiling water.

Yeah Larry,
The tornado you mention from the 70s,is the one that hit Louisville
and surrounding towns very hard. April 3rd,1974.
Brandenburg,Ky;about 35 miles southwest of us,was almost obliterated
from the face of the earth. They also had the highest death toll in this area.
I was in the Ky National Guard, and while on state active duty, worked a
trailer park near Frankfort. People had gotten 'tiedowns' for the mobile homes;
they prevented them from totally blowing away, but just collasped under the
straps from the wind & pressure.
And if my memory is working well, they found chairs from Freedom Hall
here in Louisville,in and around the Xenia,Ohio area. (approx. 150-200miles)

I'm not going to argue with anybody about the rating for those tornados,
I do not have any info in front of me,but I have been led to believe that,
that outbreak was more in line with an F-8 or higher on the scale.
I saw that tornado, not just the aftermath;it hit just as we were getting off
from work, and I managed to get to my place before everything totally went crazy.
It came as close as two blocks from where I was living at the time.
Didn't get a good chance to access the damage in our area,as I was immediately
called to active duty to work within the rest of the state.

RIRR80 Willy, know what you mean about @)* & #$@ + crutches. The only thing worse is the "shower boot" the V.A. issues for preventing the cast turning into rolled oats, I suppose? 'Bout the only thing I can wish for you is PATIENCE. These things must "run their own course," no matter how much we "want to be some place else."

Sure do appreciate you guys putting the breakfast buffet together. The Canadian bacon, Western Omelette w/Pace Salsa, hash browns and a tankard of the best "Joe" in town will keep me rolling like a Timken bearing clear thru to lunch. There might be a "way siding" drop or two along the way tho. Randy and Sarah, hey you guys be careful! You don't want to end up Toast on Cherokee's breakfast buffet. How does Hassenpfeffer sound for Randy's rabbit dinner? I tried it once in the "Old Country" and it had me talkin' like Bugs Bunny in Dutch all night long (or so my wife told me).

Well, I gotta get movin' or I'll be "jawing" right into the "chicken and dumplings." Oh yeah "CSXrules...," I got really "hung up" on Richard Strauss when I saw the old movie "2001, A Space Odyssey" which opened with Strauss' Also Sprach Zarathustra (Tone Poem). It was a "see the movie, read the book" kind of thing. "Death and Transfiguration" is still his best (my opinion only) but "Ein Heldenleben" is a close second. "Try it, you'll like it." Okay, I'll be careful not to trip over locomutt on the way out. Ain't nothin' better than that "snooze alarm" second time around, is there? See you's guys soon. Happy rails.

I don't think it's as much that tornados are any bigger or "badder" than they used to be. Rather we now find out about them, sometimes even as they are happening. The Oklahoma tornado had unprecedented coverage, including professional storm chasers with doppler-on-wheels. It probably ranks as the best documented tornado ever. It certainly had the highest recorded winds ever.

Let's not forget the "Tri-State Tornado" of the early part of the 20th century, and the outbreak of June 24, 1953, where a number of people were killed, as well at the outbreak that included Xenia, Ohio, in the 70's, to mention a few.

If anything today, we have better forecast and reporting capabilities. Local radio and TV share that knowledge in a heartbeat, and many people now have weather alert radios in their homes. Even though we are not a hotbed of severe weather, our fire department's latest batch of pagers include a weather alert feature.

Besides that, more and more people are documenting them on digital cameras and on video, witness this tornado that struck the Hartland, MI area in 2001:

Mookie, CW read what you wrote. She has now declared me, by

(wrrrooooong answer!)
We're working on our third paper shredder. It's been getting a
good workout the last few days, and has a whole bunch more
work to do, too!)

Have a bunch of flashlights around the house, and as many
florescent bulbs as I can find. The ceiling fan in our entry way,
where we have the computer, has florescent bulbs in it.
The 'long life' incandescent bulbs ,made for ceiling fans, would
burn out almost as fast as I replaced them;the florescent ones
are still going strong.

Our carpet is champagne beige. Doesn't show much, unless
somebody makes muddy footprints.
Whenver we have to use a regular incandescent bulb, it's 75 watts.
One of my favorites is my 27 watt sunlight florescent floor lamp.
It's equivilant to a 150 watt bulb in lighting. And it DOES work,
very well.

If dust is a furniture protector, then our furniture is protected to the
max. !!

Both of us say OOPS all the time (and not just when we have the
paper shredder in use.)

Yesterday if I'm not mistaken, was the day that a "F6" tornado ripped through Oklahoma in 1999 near Oklahoma City. I don't think there has been a more powerful tornado in history.

Yesterday, several tornadoes broke out in Manitoba near Brandon.

Not that long ago, on that date in 1985, twin tornadoes devastated Barrie, Ontario causing much of the city to have to be rebuilt. They registered F3 but some of the debris patterns suggested F4. In my city, we had a F5 rip the guts out of the little township of Merriton before a group of townships merged to become St.Catharines in the 30s I believe.

Has anybody noticed that tornado outbreaks are becoming more frequent and popping up in odd places and/ or becoming stronger then in the past?
