Good morning, everyone!! Jim, hope you get plenty of rest and sleep today.

Carl and Ed, hope you're feeling better very soon.

Mookie, Mutt and I are here. Been a little busy this morning; that's why I'm late
getting in here this morning. Starting to figure out the bills for tomorrow. (yuck)

Now, getting down to business: Breakfast is ready. We have nice hot oatmeal
with toast, sausage and biscuits & gravy.

Am working on a vey special cake for a very special person!! Mookie, watch your
email: Mutt has something special he's sending you via email. (No flaming
surprises!)

Lunch today will be leftover pork chop abracadbra from supper last night, and
the regular burgers, hot dogs (No, Mutt is still very much alive!!), and have some
more homemade Christmas Cookies for dessert, along with Jell-O.

Tip Top of the Morning Everyone,

Well, I'm safely back in the Centennial State, though not exactly after a pleasant journey. The CZ managed to be 7 hours late. While this bugged me a little, part of it was related to the weather, so I was ready to forgive that.

What I'm not ready to let go is the fact that with a couple exceptions, the crew was less than congenial in dealing with the problem. Add to that heat that intermittently worked (thankfully I always carry a fleece blanket), a gentleman across the aisle who thought it OK to watch movies til 1:30 in the morning without headphones (and the crew not seeming to care about it), and no breaks on pricing for diner/cafe services and it was somewhat of a miserable trip.

Now I don't feel so bad about what I did just before I left Chicago. I purchased plane tickets for my December trip on Frontier Airlines. I'm not a huge fan of dealing with security (especially with the camera gear I carry...man do they love to check through that!), but I got very early flights, so the lines shouldn't be too long.

Speaking of which, I'll be back in Chicago from Dec 21st through January 3rd. Would love to try to get a gathering of forum-dwellers together while I'm in town.

I've got a lot of work to do on the pictures I took, but I'm going to try to start getting them processed tonight and tomorrow. Hopefully will be able to share some with you all very soon (including a fire breathing GE I caught at Naperville while waiting for #5!).

Once again, many thanks to Carl and Pat for the hospitality they showed while I was back there. It was a delight to meet both of you. Likewise, it was great to talk to Walt and Paula while at Rochelle. I certainly feel lucky to have such a great online family!

TTFN!

P.S. Mookie, SD9 6124 was hanging around the Denver yards as we were pulling into Union Station.

Welcome back Chris. The placing of bets on when the Colorado weatherman actually gets the forecast right and sticks to it has begun. (Changes every 6 hours)- 'tis the season!

Carl: If the yard is so effectively empty, are the track people busy down in the bowl? (loose nuts & bolts, spikes, general clean-up?) When that happened in LA, it was yard cleaner season.

MC: In a perfect world, that's what would happen, right?

We've had one of our longer tracks out of service for over a month. I expect that it will still be out when I go back tomorrow, and probably for the winter.

I've been dealing with an out-of-service retarder that needs a part (they call it a potentiometer; it's been described as a piece of string!). I expect to have to deal with that, along with other retarders that can't be tightened any tighter, for the foreseeable future. New shoes on that one would do wonders!

Every Tuesday morning the hump is shut down for "maintenance". If the hump is maintained and nobody's there to hear it, does it have an effect?

Oh, for the record, it's the dragon flu.

I'm up, have a good appetite, but everything's just draggin'! Hard to lift even an arm.

Chris, I'm looking forward to seeing what that camera of yours got while you were out with us. We'll have to make a point of getting a bunch of people together at Rochelle, Aurora, or Elmhurst sometime while you're up. Your dates coincide almost exactly with those that my daughter and son-in-law will be back from California (they're flying Southwest--cheaper than Amtrak!).

^~^ You know - the kitty has ears and she knows who's been naughty or nice.

This month is also the birthday of at least one other esteemed forum member who lives in Houston Texas with the first name of ........."Bad",.... no that's not right. " White-out,".... no....I know it has something to do with winter......

.Ah - Ted "Frosty" Snow - that's it! And on New Year's Eve! What bad timing!!!!

This year, we will do a rememberance rather than a birthday - it will appeal to more forum members. Let's see - must take off booties and count nails -

64 years ago was Pearl Harbor. December 7, 1941. Lest we forget - but maybe we have...? (just think about it; don't get political on that keyboard!)

Good morning, everyone! Sorry I wasn't around here very much yesterday. Just had
too many things around the house to do. First off, I want to say:

[bday] Mookie!! Hope it's the very best birthday yet.

Along with the chocolate doughnuts Joe brought in for breakfast, I brought in some
full size chocolate covered cream filled doughnuts for everyone. Mookie, yours is
the one with the solitary candle in it.

Lunch today is also in Mookie's honor: meat loaf w/mashed taters, gravy, and
green beans.

Supper tonight: Mookie, you tell me what you want for your birthday supper, and
I'll fix it for you (will make sure I have it ready before you leave today, so you can
take two orders home for you and Driver).

And, as Mookie said, let's not forget that next Wednesday is Pearl Harbor
Day.

Morning all- this great diner fare is sure helping my diet. I'm now down 25 pounds from when I started back in mid-October, and my blood sugar readings are staying within the normal range for a person without Diabetes. If I can keep this up for a few more weeks, I may even post a picture of myself in my profile!

Oh, and Happy Birthday Mookie!!![bday]

Wow! Back just in time for cake!

Next time I head for the upper left coast, I'm planning to take the train.... That redeye with two plane changes (in a hurry, plus my suitcase got back after I did) was enough to swing me over.

Now I'm rested up (sort of) and back to work. Kind of miss the uncluttered vacation life, and the three pups (and the son and DIL), but can't stay on vacation forever (or can I???).

Lunch sounds good... I think I've recovered from my stuffing on turkey day - I ate way too much...

Cher, I think we have a few days to prepare for the Mook's big day of commemoration yet. December 7 was the day that will live in infamy.

And congratulations, Brian! Losing that much, that fast, is amazing. Been there, need to go there again.

Carl, I know Mookie's birthday isn't until Wednesday; but I figured we'd make
it a week long celebration!! Have even been to the store all ready this morning,
to get things for the celebration. Lots of party hats, balloons, candles, noise
makers (even thought about an extra fire extinguisher for the diner). [:-,][:-,]

And lunch is ready, folks!!

I'm all in favor of long celebrations.

Cher, I'll have a generous serving of meatloaf. Don't take it personally, but meatloaf is about the only thing I put steak sauce on. I'll have some without, though, because I know it's going to taste great!

Then back to work. I'm not ready for this...

Oh CW - I don't think I can celebrate that long! I have trouble just getting through the day! But I will take the meatloaf if you insist....(out of the way everyone!)

Supper - well - I think fried meatloaf sammiches would be great. Someone I was very close to used to carry them in his grip, so in his honor - I will have a couple to take home in my ....purse? (Just doesn't sound quite right!)

And Mac & Cheese and Psghetti and garlic rolls and Watergate salad and Waldorf salad and and and...a nap! [:D]

Tree - glad you are back - your chair kept getting cold, so I rested in it a few times!

BC - work - well, I extend a donut to you in sympathy. Notice it is missing the chocolate frosting - [:O] (hope I got all the chocolate off my mouf!)

Sir Chicken - why are you not out standing in 18 feet of snow on some secluded backwoods property wondering why you went to a school of higher education?
