Top o' the morning to ye!!! I'm up bright and early, my wife started first shift today after being on third for the last couple years. Although I'm up a lot later than I used to be, since I changed PT job #1 from early mornings to evenings about a month ago. I've got a lot of furniture to build at PT job #2 today, so I guess I shouldn't stay on here too long! Even got a cup of coffee and a couple bowls of cereal in so far this morning... should be a productive day! [swg]

I'm currently having a little debate with Pat Huemmer at rrpicturearchives.com- he (or she?) got a picture of one of these CRANDIC switchers here in Cedar Rapids and called it an SW7. According to my field guide, they look more like SW9s or SW1200s. The CRANDIC website says they have four SW12s (huh? Those don't exist in my field guide) and two SW1400s (huh again?). Is my field guide inaccurate and incomplete? Unfortunately, CRANDIC doesn't itemize their loco list by number, and I can't find a roster anywhere else.

Had a bit of a rough drive into the Diner this morning...what with all the snow! Whooops! Did I say the "S" word? Only in Colorado can one experience temps in the 80's on Saturdayday and be looking at a Winter Wonderland (well...maybe not quite that extreme...yet) Monday morning!

I'm actually kind of thrilled. I've decided that this absolutely will be the year I try skiiing. It's kind of embarassing when people ask me if I've been skiing since I moved here (nearly 5 years ago) and I say, "No." Especially considering all the great ski areas, and the time they are open (A-basin trys to stay open until 4th of July each year).

I was a bit dissapointed this Saturday, though. I had the 500mm f4.5 out before sunrise on a new shot up around Tunnel No. 1 I wanted to try out, but Uncle Pete didn't see fit to run any trains. Doh...hate when that happens. There really must not have been anything around because even the radio was quiet. Was a great morning to. Nice, rich, golden sunrise light without a cloud in the sky. I guess a bad day of railfanning is better than a good day of work!

Meanwhile, I'm on the Eastbound CZ bound for Chi-town on Tuesday evening. I'll try not to bring any of the weather with me, but I can't make any promises. [:P]

SW12 is a common shortening for SW1200 (just as SW15 is short for SW1500), although SW12 could just as well be any 1200 hp SWitcher. The SW7/9/1200s are all pretty much alike, and as parts were swapped between the three and other similar models, differenced disappeared even further. You'd have to find the builder's plate, or look up the frame number, to see exactly what it started out as. FWIW, SW7s were the least common of the three models, and I believe the 1200s were the most common.

I don't know what a SW1400 is, the only thing that comes close is IC(G)'s SW14s, which were rebuilds of earlier switchers that featured an angled cab (usually).

And then there's the HO scale world, where Athearn marketed a locomotive as a "SW1500", although it looked very little like the SW1500s of reality, but it was based on preliminary blueprints of the proposed model BEFORE it was changed by EMD! In more recent years, the model was re-labeled a SW7, which it seems to more closely resemble.

Oh yes Allentown floods 24/7 during heavy storms. The Lehigh River seems to be notourious (spelling) for flooding. So, yes I can believe that Allentown had flash floods. If he lived near Blue Mountain or one of those mountain ranges here in PA then I would begin to wonder how he got flooded.

Thanks, fuzzy! I kinda suspected that that might be the case. Based on your input, I am going to assume that CRANDIC's switchers are SW12s until I gain more information that disproves it. I wonder if CRANDIC may have acquired a couple IC's SW14s?

Haven't gotten much snow by my house, only rain. Still...I'm starting to worry about Clear Creek. Haven't seen it that high since the big storm in 2003. Might have to take a boat to Union Station tomorrow.

Good God. My body is "running on stupid" as Gen Honeres might put it. It doesn't want me to eat or at least hardly anything at all.

I have noticed that I am loosing a lot of weight and I am getting more energetic but the nausea...........I checked out to see if I wasn't sick but for so far it seems that it is simply that my body's metabolism is changing for the better.

Anybody else had this happen to them? How long does this irritating feeling last?

Event went well, if slowly - had a lot of competition in the area. Still, I'm quite sure we came out in the black.

No snow in the north country yet, but it's not too warm. Closed up the aunt's cottage Monday, which involved wading into the lake to bring out the pipe (lake water used for utility, drinking water brought in...). It wasn't bad, but I wouldn't have gone for a swim...

Also ran a fire call yesterday. User of outside wood furnace decided to help things along a bit by introducing some gasoline. Fortunately the flames were confined to the urethane insulation in the furnace shed - didn't get to the house. Home owner realized he made a mistake, unfortunately not until after the thing started to burn...

Man-This weather situation is nuts. We continue to have beautiful fall days here. Colorado gets 20 inches of snow. New Hampshire has 13 inches of rain. Hope all members are OK but there have been casualties.

Chris may have picked a bad day for his trip east. The CZ status is not being report because of "service disruption"
