Had a beautiful drive through the countryside today! Got some great fall-color shots, and even a couple of train shots. Caught a short local running through the tunnel at East Dubuque. Later, up in Prairie Du Chien, while eating supper at the Coaches Family Restaurant, I watched a total of six trains go by on the BNSF main- four SB, and two NB. One of the north-bounders had two non-BNSF engines- the first a CSX, and the second an NS.[%-)]

I'll have to upload pictures tomorrow- too late to mess with tonight.

very good!! Joe, want to say "Thank you" for all your help this week. It is
very much appreciated!! We are going to miss Sarah when she leaves

Quite a girl, isn't she? (I'm still jealous--you had nearly a week with her; when I was in Philly it was for a little over a day.)

Breaking my usual breakfast rule--today, apple pie! I may regret this later.

intelligent, also!! And gee, can she think of some goooodd things to say
about people[:p][:-,]

Also, to let everyone know, there are a couple of birthday cakes for tonight,
so we can celebrate Larry's (Tree) and Carl's birthdays today.

Happy Birthday, guys, hope it's a great one, and Chris, (cop car), a belated

Thanks to all for the birthday wishes. Spent the weekend in Rochester, NY at the NYS EMS conference ("Vital Signs"). An unexpected highlight was lunch Saturday at the Dinosaur Barbeque. It's a local delicacy, first available in Syracuse, now also in Rochester, and I believe NYC. The highlight wasn't the barbeque (I had the beef brisket), although it is excellent. The highlight was the location - the former Lehigh Valley RR station alongside the Genesee River. Didn't have my camera, so no pictures.

Learned lots of good stuff at the conference, picked up a few neat goodies, and overall had a good time. Now I gotta get ready to head for work in the morning.

Joe, thank you for putting the coffee on, and making the juice. Sorry, I overslept
this morning. Got a phone call at 3:45 this morning. Then went back to sleep.

Breakfast this morning: oatmeal, toast, turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled
eggs, sausage gravy, biscuits.

Our current temp is in the mid 40s(?) this morning.

Lunch menu: chilli, chicken & dumplings, and leftover birthday cake (Mookie,
did you find the slice I put in your safe place for you?)

[bday] Larry and Carl! Sorry I'm a little late on that one.

Spent the day roaming around looking for some fall color and such. Still a little early here, I guess. Still it was a lovely day to be out.

Sadly, my little Illinoisan excursion is coming to an end. I get aboard Amtrak #5, the eastbound CZ this afternoon at 2:24. [sigh] Oh well, I'll be back here for Thanksgiving.

Hope you all have a great week, and I'll see you all back at one Mile up!

TTFN!

Going the wrong direction there, Chris?[:D]

You should've ventured over to the Ol' Miss, especially up around Prairie Du Chein, WI. They're just about peaking up there- got some fantastic pictures Saturday.

[bday] Larry and Carl! Sorry I'm a little late as well.

Ummm...perhaps my brain isn't ready to abandon the vacation yet? [:p] I do plan to head west. After all, it is the #5, and only oddballs head west, right? [8D]

Man, you had me going for a minute there. I kinda keep track of the news, and couldn't figure how I could miss hearing about Denver getting moved to Ohio or someplace.

Jay: If they moved Denver out of the state, maybe a good chunk of the general public would know a little more about the rest of the state. Flat-tery will get you nowhere, MC!

Thank you all for the birthday wishes. Yesterday was church, lunch at church, and a lo-o-o-ng day at work. When I got home it was straight to bed, so I didn't see all of these messages until I got up late this morning.

Chris, it would have been great if we could have gotten together while you were here. Of course, my days are generally tied up with work, and you were situated along the wrong railroad for those purposes (and out in the wrong direction for me).

Tomorrow (my day off), I'm hoping to meet a scoundrel for lunch and trains (I'm a scoundrel, too, but we don't talk about that too much).

We have the same problem here in NY - Most people from outside NYS think the tallest thing in NY is the Empire State Building at 1250 or so feet. In reality it's Mount Marcy at 5344 feet. Of course, most people from NYC think of anything north or west of Poughkeepsie must be in another country...

Gee, now that Chris has left town, it'll be safe for my wife and I to go there![:D]

We're heading over to the Chicago area this weekend, mainly to provide transportation for our daughter, who wants to attend a baptism in Naperville, but also to enjoy a foray downtown. We've opted to stay in Bolingbrook (sorry eolafan, my wife decided she didn't like downtown Aurora) and run up to Lisle and catch Metra there Saturday. Hope to add more pictures to my collection when I get back Sunday!
