We have the same problem here in NY - Most people from outside NYS think the tallest thing in NY is the Empire State Building at 1250 or so feet. In reality it's Mount Marcy at 5344 feet. Of course, most people from NYC think of anything north or west of Poughkeepsie must be in another country...

Mmmm... cake, a la mode, please. There goes my diet...

While I'm sitting here increasing my triglycerides, allow me to share a couple of fall color photos that I took over the weekend:

Just popping in for a nice hot cup, then it's off to school for the young ones, and on with my day. Safe railroading everyone.

And a Tip Top of the Morning to You All!

Managed to make it to Denver, whether it lies in Colorado or Ohio, so I'm grateful for that. Was a fairly decent trip back, though still an hour late (I think this is in the realm of acceptable to most folks, though).

Started re-reading Terry Pindell's "Making Tracks" while on-board the CZ. Really a fascinating author with a nice mix of travelogue and history. Some of the facts are a little sparse, and some minorly wrong, but still quite the interesting read. Have also read his "sequel" "Last Train to Toronto."

Mookie, loved the rolled up streets as we passed through Lincoln. I waved to you, though the only folks around were some tired looking CZ passengers who basically boarded the train, found their seats, and slept! Must not have much night life in Cornhuskerland?

Carl, this trip was a bit rushed, but I'll be back in November for a week and a half, and in December/January for two weeks. Will keep you up to date as they get closer. Would enjoy meeting up with you.

Brian. Lovely pics! Really enjoyed the Mississippi River shot. Well composed with the foreground framing!

Well, have a bnch of stuff to catch up on at work, and school this afternoon, so I should be on my way. Ta Ta For Now!

I can understand that. I grew up in Rochester, and I met a girl in college (very blonde) who didn't realize that there was a New York City and a New York State.

Been a little while since I've been in. NIce food and fellowship.

Sadly, my little Illinoisan excursion is coming to an end. I get aboard Amtrak #5, the eastbound CZ this afternoon at 2:24.

Man, you had me going for a minute there. I kinda keep track of the news, and couldn't figure how I could miss hearing about Denver getting moved to Ohio or someplace.

Hey there everyone. From Produce this morning, got cabbage, cinnamon rolls,
and Yoplait Smoothies (strawberry flavor), green apples, and yellow squash.
Guess we need to buy some bags of caramel, melt them, chop some nuts,
and make caramel apples!!

Supper tonight: new batch of boiled cabbage w/corned beef, or you can have
chilli w/melted cheese, and there's plenty tuna casserole left from lunch today.

Dessert: peach pie ala mode.

There was a jingle for the Illinois Tourism Council a few years back that said something similar: "Just outside Chicago/There's a place called Illinois."

Glad to hear Sarah's home safely. She's a nervous driver, especially in unfamiliar territory. But the only way to take care of that is experience, and I think her trip was a wonderful experience for her!

(Still jealous!)

I just got back in from lunch and a quick Proviso/Elmhurst trip with Jay Eaton. Definitely the type of scoundrel you'd like to run into--has he got some tales to tell!

Yup, That's what many people think. One time when I was living in the San Fernando valley (LA) I invited a friend to go with me to my parents house. I told him it was a long trip. He says no problem I go up there all the time. We were not much beyond Mojave when he starts whining "how much further". Boy was he in for a ride. Turns out his idea of northern Cal was Lake Isabella (southern Sierras).[:0]

Yeah, that was sad news- my eldest sister and her family live in Altoona, just south of Chippewa Falls, and her husband runs a plumbing and heating business there. I'm sure they must've known some of the victims. Haven't talked to her yet, though.
