Well Joe, Mutt has never forgotten our anniversay, or my birthday. (Maybe that's
because I always put all that important information on the calendars at the end
of the year, when we get the new calendars). And he's very good about remem-
bering the exact number of years: I'm the one that sometimes gets confused
about the number of years.

Since the weather is to start cooling down tomorrow, and a lot of the area will
be getting rain, we will have a grill out tonight. Here's the menu for tonight:

steak (beef and pork), hamburgers, hotdogs, brats. Will also have baked
beans, potato salad, corn on the cob, cole slaw, chips.

Sure hope that meets with everyone's approval.[C=:-)]

Randy: thank you for doing the dishes for me. Have been so busy doing Fall
Housecleaning, I knew I was forgetting dishes somehwhere, that needed
washing!!

Joe, you are so correct: Sunflower, Duchess, Hobo and
our dog, Winter, ARE in charge of dishwashing. Looks like
they all failed us last night/early morning (they must have
decided to take a loooooonnnng break)![}:)] Winter is very
good about being a vacuum cleaner, and dishwasher, all
at the same time. Guess we're going to have to withhold
the pet treats for a couple of days.[:(][:0]

Joe, that hot chocolate sounds like a good idea. Had to pull the kitchen
window down, because of the very brisk breeze coming through it.

Think after all the cleaning today, I'll probably be going nighty-night
very shortly: it's all I can do to keep my eyes open, and it's only 8:18.

Hello everyone. My name is Carl and I'm from Bloomington IL.

I have been reading the forums regularly for quite some time, and have been contented reading and learning. I have learned lots from each of you, and am grateful for everyone's willingness to share their knowledge.

I grew up in Media PA, and have great memories of the varied rail transportation in the area (trolly, subway, and train). Some of the photos in last month's TRAINS had pictures of Media, which really brought back memories.

My grandfather was a conductor for the Illinois Central in Clinton IL, and I remember his taking us to the yard to see his caboose. I can also remember watching to trains when I would visit.

As a young kid I remember meeting my grandmother at the PRR station in Paoli PA when she would come and visit.

I learned that I was a railfan from my father-in-law. As I would visit his house, he had old issues of TRAINS lying around that I found facinating. From that day on I was hooked. Even to this day when I visit them (Elgin IL), he and take time to get out and go "training" along the UP from Geneva IL west to Rochelle.

Most of my railfanning these days is up at Rochelle. Its easy to get to, provides lots of variety on 2 different railroads and the park arrangement is nice. I have met some facinating people up there too.

I'll be leaving some brownies made from scratch for everyone.

much for the homemade brownies!

Breakfast this morning: the big ole hardy breakfast is now being served:
turkey bacon, sausage, biscuits & gravy, grits, cream of wheat, scrambled
eggs, oatmeal, toast, etc. If you go away hungry from here, it's your own
fault; because I cook like my Mama did. There's plenty for an army to eat!!

Lunch today: open faced roast beef, gravy, and mashed taters. (know
Mookie will love that!)

You all have a good day, and I'm going to get started back into my Fall
Cleaning.

Mookie, we've not gotten down that low yet: our overnight low last night was
low to med 50s. You're right: really good sleeping weather!!

CW...just north of you about 140 miles, we had 47 at 6:30 this morning and looks like a nice day forming for us....Sunshine and to be about 60 today. Jen, we've not used any heat inside yet either, but really none has been needed. Have an advantage with our system as we have a thermostat in each room to control the heat..{electric}, so if one room would be a bit chilly just engage the heat in that one room, etc....But none needed yet. It's been an exceptionally nice Sept. and so far Oct. in our area.....In fact, still yard mowing about every 4 days....Almost like summer.

Beautifully chilly last night...wonderful sleeping weather! Carl, thanks for the brownie, and welcome to the Diner!

Well, autumnal color has migrated down the mountains, and is starting to head into Denver. Might have to head trackside this weekend and see what I can find. Saw Mookie's future Geep wandering around the yard with the SD40-2 that MC told about. Might have to "hike" out onto the Park Ave Bridge and see if I can scrounge up a shot. How long will first gen stuff roam around the BNSF? Only time will tell, I suppose.

Nice shot of that Chatanooga, Birmingham & Cuba engine, but it looks like it is slightly tipping to the right. Maybe it is just an obstacle contusion.

Might want to lay low today. Major flamming breaking out between railroaders and rail fans. Bergie may have to set up a summit conference at the Rochelle Railroad Park to resolve the issues. Between that and solving the EMD vs GE conflict, he should get the Nobel peace prize.

Mid 40's with possibility of rain later today. With two infant babies and a 17 month-old visiting, the heat has been turned on. (Total count is 6 adults, the three little ones, and two dogs). I'm glad we have a large house, but I still may go over to watch the high school soccer game tonight.

Lunch sounds great. Can't go wrong w/ roast beef and mashed potatoes. Almost sounds like a Sunday. Dipping to the high 30's in Michigan. Brr. I don't mind, but my wife is ready to hibernate. She can't "bear" the cold. Sorry, couldn't resist that one.
Putting laminate flooring in this weekend, gathering needed supplies, need to fix a plugged drain. Oh the life of a homeowner. Can't get out trainwatching.[V]

My wife is enjoying the cooler weather--I actually had to close some windows when I got home last night. We stayed above 40 last night, but haven't broken 50 yet today. I'll be wearing a sweat-jacket to work.

I'm ready to hibernate now, but warmer clothing would help.

Gotta go--there are freight cars to be documented and otherwise worked with.

Mookie, just wanted to let you know that Mutt and I haven't done any Fall
Cleaning today. I'm just trying to get laundry done, instead. Also went
to the store, and got fixings for chilli and chicken & dumplings.

Our current temp is 58.1 at 3:33 EDT. There's a very nice breeze out, too.
Might be about time to bring out the ole flannel nightgown.

Supper tonight: fried fish, fries, and cole slaw, along with the open-faced
roast beef sandwiches and mashed taters w/gravy.
