Can't get 'em in Denver (she lives in Aurora). Every now and then I freeze some up and mail them to her.[dinner] She sends me back one of my favorite flavors of Kool-Aid ("Mandarina Tangerina") in return... Can't get it here.

QUOTE: Originally posted by Mookie OK - Miffed Mookie is a little happier today - going to watch trains for 3 days over long weekend. Off Sat, Sun and Mon - will have withdrawals with no forum, but will hopefully find lots of questions. Let's see - Wed - let's have oooo - Blueberry pancakes/waffles. Worked in a restaurant that made patty melts - (for Dave Down Under) - they are burger patty, swiss cheese, onion and grilled altogether on rye bread. (they grill the burger first to get it done) They are good, but have a tendency to be just a tad dry - so if you dip it in blueberry syrup - it makes a great sandwich. Just a little - don't overdo! Don't want syrup in your whiskers... [dinner]

(Can find White Castle "sliders" in the frozen food case here on occasion).......Kozzie I think would be appalled with the "Outback" Steak Houses over here, although the Bloomin Onions are pretty good!

Our unit here in Muncie sure does a good business. University is near by and they are the waiters and waitresses and customers too plus the town folk....Generally it requires a hand held buzzer to check one's place in line to get in...especially week ends and when the university is full in the fall, etc....

Mudchicken...[:0] I'm shocked [:0] that the steaks out west "up over" would be poor grade! Some of the best steaks, ribs [:p] [:p] etc I've had here downunder is in a chain restaurant called "The Lone Star," and they sure do great steaks and ribs, [:p][:D] and the whole venue is set up in Texan style. (Of course, I would need Ed and you and drephpe to check it out for authenticity! [;)][;)][;)] heh heh - that almost goes without saying! QUOTE: Originally posted by edblysard Kozzie, Funny, but there are no Lone Star Steak Houses inTexas... Lone Star, and the Texas Land and Cattle Company Steak Houses are offshoots from a older restaurant chain, the Night Hawk. At one time, there were two Night Hawk Restaurants, one in Austin, the other in San Antonio, Texas. Family owned and run, they were great places to eat, each with its own local flavor. Sold in the mid 90 to a investor group, who formed several "Theme" restaurants, The Lone Star, Texas Land and Cattle, with a few others. Do a little digging, and you will find they are all owned and run by the Texas Land and Cattle company Inc. in Dallas Texas. They have their own distribution center and purchasing center, and ship most of their meats and produce from their distribution center to all of their restaurants from Seagoville, Texas(a little suburb of Dallas). Some items in each chain are purchased locally, depending on what it is. As for how authentic they are, well.... You would have a better taste of Texas eating at Dans parents Mexican food resturant here in Houston. Or ask Mudchicken about Los Cucos, real homemade Tex Mex. Ed
QUOTE: Originally posted by edblysard David, I am sure they purchase locally there, but you never know. Mickey Dees ships some of their junk overseas! I would bet your Lone Star Steak House is run under contract, or franchise, and buys most of its product locally. Ought to be about lunch time there, getting a good case of the munchies yet? Ed

I like this thread, gives me an excuse to cook, then eat... By the way, who ever mentioned the pork chop covered with mushroom soup, try substituting one cup milk, and one cup sour cream, with sauted mushrooms and onions(saute onions and mushrooms, sliced or chopped, not whole, till the onions become clear, not brown). Heat the liquids till simmering, add one cup water, stir, and then add the pork chops, mushrooms and onions, simmer covered for 30 minutes, stirring occasionaly, till the chops become soft. Pepper the whole mixture. The chops just about fall off the bone. About a billion calories per bite, but worth it... Ed
