OK, in CNW parlance, the train will have a waycar on the end of it. Actually, its prototype is PRR.

We aren't supposed to get any rain before the weekend, and temps will be in the upper 80s or low 90s each day (88 now, before noon). I have made a vow not to wear long pants during this vacation, except on the day of the wedding and the evening before. The lawn needs a trimming/dusting, but not today.

Everytime I come in here and Tree has been in here - I gain weight! If I lived close to him - I would quit work and just follow him around and eat!

Carl - I was a wreck at my daughter's wedding and cried at my own (2nd one). Minister thought I was nuts when I was saying my vows and digging in my bra for a kleenex I had put there cuz I knew I would cry. I didn't cry at my first one - maybe that tells me something.

CW - peaches! No - I am not calling you that - just that I love peaches! Yummmm
And some of Joe's vanilla i.......drool..........

Sir Chix - we call them controlled burns. That way we never admit it might have been a duh moment.

Chris - keep drinking milk and someday we will call you.................Chris (no, not MOOkie)

And a funny for everyone - since our Supreme Court decided states can use eminent domain - in Justice Suter's state - they are petitioning to take his home (he voted for the silly thing!)

I know Mookie enjoyed her lunch today (since she brought it from home this
morning.) Anybody else enjoying all the different versions of fried rice today?

Chris and mudchicken, I'm still trying to get the rain dance right, so that some
rain comes your way!! Also think that our friends, Bob & Nance69 could prob-
ably use some of it in Arizona, too!!

Mookie, maybe we have enough peaches for us to make some peach jelly or
peach preserves. (Do you know how to do the preserves? I'm not too sure
that I remember how to make preserves.) But don't think it's too much different
from making jelly, though.

Supper tonight will be what's left of the stir fry, and think we'll also have for the
dinner special, some liver and onions, and leftover roast, potatoes, carrots, &
cole slaw.

Just looked out the window, and we're getting a light shower, or light drizzle
again. Goody!!

CW - as a kid - Mom and I canned peaches, cherries, pickles, tomatoes, apricots and even a little jelly. (remember the wax to seal the jelly jars.) We didn't do preserves but did make chow-chow - (relish) that was to die for.....and all w/o the benefit of air conditioning. Just a round floor fan!

As an adult - I wouldn't can for all the tea in China. No Way! And I don't iron the pillow cases, either!

Yeah, Mookie, since I no longer live on a farm, I don't do any canning either!
Although, after we moved to this house, a couple of summers, Walt canned
green beans, tomatoes, potatoes, and mushrooms. We don't even do
that now. And yes, when I canned with Mama, I always remembered to
pour wax on top of the jelly before sealing the jar. And like, you, we didn't
have air conditioning either. It was a round fan on the kitchen table, and
box fans in the windows. And I also remember gathering up the green
tomatoes, to make the chow-chow, or, as Mama called it, green tomato
ketchup.

Hmmmm...haven't seen one this bad since the Hayman and Missionary Ridge burns back in 2002. Hope we can get some t-storms fired up today. NOAA says we're within the boundaries of where convection could get some things poppin.

Fire may be nature's way, and all that, but it would be nice if nature would avoid the 420 homes that were evac'd.

How the rain dances coming, CW? Mine haven't been effective so far. Going to try the foolproof one tonight. From the Washdecar tribe. It involves the ceremonial cleansing of one 1994 Chevy Caprice Classic. Last time I did it, we ended up with a week of rain. The time before that it was 2 feet of snow![:P]

...Here in central Indiana we are dry.....many inches below normal of rainfall...for several months now. But Denis, the former hurricane is going to give us some moisture starting tonight or tomorrow morning....and then for the next several days.
I have been at war with {it turns out to be 2}, ground moles in my back yard now for about a week or so....but the score now is Moles: 0 ............Quentin: 2 No more moles. So tunnels tramped down flat and little puffs of ground at various places are leveled out and now just this morning grass seed planted and top soil springled on top of all planting...{roughly 50' of tunnels}, and now the coming rains will do the rest. The demise of moles was caused by a mole trap. One that causes moles to cease to be if trap is disturbed....Trap was disturbed twice.

Dennis is still wandering kind of NNW by what I can see, but I don't think he'll make it all the way to CO before the prevailing winds push him my way.

Maybe we can find a way to back haul some suitable cars filled with water into MC and CopCar's area.... They did it in Buffalo a bunch of years ago with snow, but then it didn't melt before they got where they were going....

Fortunately, the only thing burning related to railroads would be the long abandoned DRG Westcliffe/Silver Cliiff Branch 1881-1937 that bypassed the Royal Gorge to the south...

Just got back from spending the day looking out the window at the wiff of cloud cover off the leading edge of Dennis. (Actually the cable has been out.) They are speaking of showers here, but I will believe it when I hear the drops on the window.

Some awsome pics of that Colorado fire from MC's link. One with shooting flames beats anything Hollywood could do for special effects. Step daughter's in-laws live in Pueblo West. Hope there is no threat for that area. He is a retired United Airlines pilot and they don't need another thing to happen.

I'll take a cheesburger and fries, with a shake made with the home made ice cream. Thanks.

Reverse virga? Hmmmm...this could be useful. Consider:

Where virga occurs, the evaporating moisture causes the atmosphere to cool, and induces (sometimes high) winds. So, if all this water is being shipped from the east, all this newly created wind would be headed westward, and slam up against the front range. At which time, we would of course be experiencing a nice upslope. And we all know what liberal amounts of precipitation can occur when there's a good upslope in place. And the bonus is that all the evaoprated virga will have begun saturating the atmosphere, and get the dewpoint dropping. The result? Copius rainfall!

Ha! Let's get those shipments headed west!

MC....Yes, the little dogs can be the real protection...and as you say, ankle bitters. I read up on these moles to see what I was up against, and even tried to sneak up on the area very quietly to see if I could see any tunnel movement, but never none...So out came the trap...{purchased at Menard's} In about 3 days I had them....No luck with chemicals either.
