Patrick
welcome to the forums!!!!Most people dont know what they are missing when it comes to country cooking.if you go away hungry from the table at our house its your own fault.I can also assure you watching csx operations over here they are not ready for any merger with anyone for a long time.It would be a worse meltdown than the conrail takeover.

[#welcome] to the diner patrick well it's kinda cool to now that there is a another patrick on here but it is going to get kinda confusing because now there is two patricks here. But anywho hope. To be talkin to you all soon and I really hate the weather because now it is raining/sleeting and it is not fun to drive in trust me. Oh Sarah we are going to get more snow tonight so if you would still like some I can pack you some up and send it your way. [:D]

Why thank for your neighborly welcome, CW and Sarah [:D] This is one of the nicest Internet cafes I've visited. You do a good job here making folks feel at home.

CW I'm a city boy, born and bred; but I have country in my blood; my grandma used to make a mean chicken and dumplings, along with fried okra and black-eyed peas! Country-fried ham with red eye gravy is something that I've never had but always wanted to try. Sarah, with all this merger mania going on, maybe CSX should buy UP (UPX?) At least they wouldn't have to repaint the yellow noses!

Pat, welcome to the forums and to the diner.[#welcome] I'm sure enjoy it, espeacilly the food.

My name is Sarah [:D]

I was thinking maybe UP should move their HQ over here in the great state of Pennsylvania, they should also consider operations over in what I like to call the birthplace of United States of America, which happens to be the eastern portion of the US, mainly Philadelphia. We don't see twisters over here, thus it will be less likely for UP to shut everything down as a result of a twister. lol

Patrick, [#welcome] to the Depot Diner and Coffee Shop. I'm the chief cook
(although I do have several helpers around here, who give me a break once
in awhile). Sorry I wasn't in here when you dropped by. But I've saved some
country fried ham and red-eye gravy for you. To know what that is, you MUST
be country born/raised, or have relatives in the country. For me, it was both.

Making another fresh batch of cole slaw for supper tonight, and washing
Idaho potatoes to make fresh fries for supper, to go with the fish and shrimp.
If anyone wants any, I've got some hush puppies, also.

Welcome, Patrick!

But be careful! UP has done many stupid things (some of us are in a position to know that). But just because they have a derailment--no cause determined yet, mind you!--is no reason to call a railroad stupid. I think there are a few UP employees who come in to the diner every so often who, whether they agree with your assessment of the railroad or not, might advise you to cool it.

I can bring in my dishwashers, also. Bailey, the chocolate lab, does ok, but Countessa, my yellow lab, is much more thorough. [:D]

Carl and Chris, don't know what your schedules are for Friday, but UP just derailed about 20 coal cars just east of Clinton at the Peavine crossing. Might make a good photo op in the daylight. Don't know all the details and there's not too much on the scanner, but I don't get too much traffic off UP mainline,as it's about 12 miles away and the weather's got to be right to pick it up. Am going to swing up in afternoon when I get off. It's supposed to have both tracks of mainline down.

Chris, might try to call you on Sat. unless you're in the pre party mood.
Anyway , getting late so [zzz] Willy

As they say, you can't spell "stUPid" without "UP"....[:D] Just thought I would pop in to say what a nice forum this is and to introduce myself. My name is Patrick, and I'm from Northern California. I'd like a cuppa joe and some ham with red eye gravy, please!

What an interesting parallel. We're seeing our son and his girlfriend off here tomorrow, also heading back to LAX. If it weren't for the fact that they're here, I'd be on the road over to east of Clinton...

Yum! to lunch.

This is going to be a very normal week at work--no days off for New Year's Eve or the day itself. Traffic should be light, though, with a yet-to-be-determined influence from our coal-train derailment on the other side of the state last night.

So on New Year's Eve I get off from work around 11:00, hurry home, pour the sparkling grape juice, yell a little, and go to bed by 12:05. Then up again at about 4:00 to take daughter and son-in-law to Midway so they can catch a pre-dawn flight back to LAX. Don't know what time I'll get back from that, but will probably have to be awakened afterwards to go to work Sunday afternoon. Hate to start off the New Year without going to church, but that's apparently going to be the case.

Well, Joe, we do still have Jim's dog, Duchess, and our dog, Winter.[;)]

Lunch today will be fish sandwiches, fries and cole slaw. Of course,
that will also be the supper menu, along with shrimp.

...There shouldn't be any snow shoveling required at the Diner this morning....We got rid of all of that nasty white stuff several days ago up here and it's 37 degrees this morning and just cloudy...No rain. Maybe we can gain back some of the temp we lost in December since we were below normal for well over 3 weeks....

Good Friday morning, everyone! Well, 2005 is really winding down, now.
If anyone makes New Year's resolutions, I wish you well, on keeping them.
Me, I don't really make New Year resolutions. I just keep trying to be a good
person, and to treat people the way I want to be treated. I do better at keeping
that one, so I just renew that each year.

Breakfast this morning: your choice of pancakes or waffles and syrup, or
sausage, biscuits and gravy, and scrambled eggs.

Everyone have a good day, and I'll be back in in a little bit.

You can bet they won't let that derailment linger for long!

They'll try to open at least one track through there as quickly as possible.

I've heard no more about it so far. 'Twill be interesting to find out the cause.

I wouldn't be able to go out that way before work today. Daughter and son-in-law have our car, wife has the rental car, and I have to work at 2:30 this afternoon.

Made to Cinci about an hour ago. Checked into motel with free Wi-Fi, so the new lap-top will get some work. I'lltake a bowl of soup, a short nap and then over to stepsons housefor a few hours.

Later.

Since there wasn't that many people in for lunch today, the beef vegetable
soup is also on the supper menu tonight, along with baked cornbread.

Carl and Chris what is this I'm hearing about snowdrifts waist deep??// If you have some snow I want some, so feel freee to send it across the contental (SP) divide over here, to the Northeastern portion of the United States.

Speaking of snow, it is raining here in Philadelphia today, I cheaked out the Schuylkill River today, there is nothing to get excited over there isn't any catastrophic flooding going on, I might go back there a little later today and record the river changes. Actually, I'll go to the Conshohocken dropoff of the Schuylkill River and record the data there, that section of the river tends to experience the roughest rapids, and the most flooding.

Wow! Where'd you manage to find a waist-deep snowdrift soft enough to be so accommodating? But you got your shot, frozen foot notwithstanding, and that's what's important.

Our main line provided us with a steady stream of westbounds as we were headed east, and we managed to get blocked by three trains (on two tracks) where the tracks cross 38 between West Chicago and Geneva. Good argument in favor of the CREATE plan (and this is one of the targeted grade crossings).
