Afternoon everyone......

Looks like I missed a barbeque this morning, and I don't mean chicken or beef. Always has to be the one guy to make a mess of things. Mudchicken, I think I can provide the dark alley, though I lost contact with a friend I know who has friends in the Mafia (that might be a good thing, though). Always wanted to try interesting things.......

Nursing a scratchy and sore throat today, seems to be getting worse, I think some chicken soup is in order after work tonight. If it's possible, CW, just leave it fully prepped in the cooler, I'll heat it up when I get home at 2:30 in the morning.

Hopefully we don't have any surprises like last night at work, we had a bogie assembly get away on us (twice!!) before quitting time, first time wasn't bad, but the second time could have been a lot of hurt for someone, luckily he wasn't standing between the bogie he was working on and the one that got away.

Got to head for work now, we'll catch everyone later.

Yes, under this user name. Actually I joined a year before that under the username wisser. wisser was my sisters last name and when I first joined I was useing her computer so for some reason I forgot, I thought I had to use that name on her computer. When I left Alturas and quit useing her computer I re-registered with my real name. (or is it?[;)])

Two reasons, and they're sort of related.

First, just because someone makes a lot of posts shouldn't equate to a higher rating than another user who only posts occasionally. There's no way to control the quality of posts. Well, that's point two. Posting what's on the menu today shouldn't get you any closer to another star. I don't want newcomers to get any false impressions, and I certainly don't want them star chasing. I guess you could say it's quality over quantity.

At the end of the day, the number of stars a person has doesn't make the content they create any more valuable than the content a newcomer creates.

spbed- I freely admit that I haven't always seen eye to eye with you, nor have I always been an angel myself, but I'm very sad to see you regress back to this state where you feel you must simply berate those of us who enjoy this forum for the comraderie as well as the wealth of infromation on trains. I had thought that you had been relatively cordial lately and that your posts had at times offered some interesting information. They way you are being now is just ridiculous. IF you are truly here to discuss trains why bother those who enjoy this thread? Do you think that railroaders don't discuss things other than the railroads? Do you think that the staff members at Kalmbach never discuss anything other than the magazines? The diner thread is kinda like the proverbial office water cooler. Many of us use it to shoot the breeze and catch up with one another. If you can't respect that, simply feel free to pass it by.

I thought it time to bring my friend back to the Diner. Surely you remember the story of the 3 Billy Goats Gruff, don't you spbed? If not, you might read the tale here:

Cool! I'm on a local forum that basically runs that way. They still list a post count, and new members are so noted, but once you get past a certain threshold, you are a "full member" and that's about as "high" as you can go. You can have some fun with the avatars, although some people like to pu***he envelope....

Are you now banning me from this thread? Am I not entitled to post the same silliness that you & other posts every day?

Also I do not buy your answer concerning Email & IM since you can send a Email & a IM to as MANY peole that you want at the same time. In the case of IM once you read it & X it out it is gone not even taken up space on your HD.

Las t I heard Email or IM was invented to "chat" or am I not correct that is what Email & IM is for?

Certainly, for one on one - there is a considerable amount of that that goes on as well. I regularly share email with other Diner patrons, and do some IM many evenings. What the Diner allows is some friendly banter. Chris's trips, MCs travails in the mountains, some good natured teasing, just a good time. We all get to know each other a little better and thus enjoy the forum just a little more because of it.

Besides, here I can share with a bunch of people and not get my email all cluttered up with responses. Further, I can participate from just about anywhere. I can't IM from work, or from a friend or relative's computer.

There are literally hundreds of threads on this forum, and plenty of other forums as well. May I recommend that you simply bypass this one as you look through the current threads each visit. You'll keep your blood pressure, and that of all of those who do enjoy visiting the Diner, down.

You offered many of the same arguments last time this happened (around April of last year), which fell on deaf ears then, too.

If you absolutely must continue to act like a complete jerk, can you at least be a little more creative with your comebacks? I didn't think the food/fuel comparison all that funny the first time you used it. Now that you're on its fourth or fifth iteration, its only serving to demonstrate your accute ability to act your shoe size.

By the way, Larry, very well said!

Alas, spbed - you've missed the point entirely. This is a food (and other topics) thread on a railroad forum. In case you neglected to read this when I posted it a page or so ago, this is from the first post of the thread.

QUOTE: Posted: 05 May 2004, 01:08:59
Several of the other forums have a "coffee shop" where people "chat" just like they would over a cup of coffee. Now this isn't my idea, I am borrowing it from the "other" forums and starting it here. Several other people have said we need it here in this forum so I will go ahead and start it.

There is no set topic. However, trains, food, and everything under the sun seem to be talked about. Just post whatever is on your mind. So grab a stool, have a cup of coffee, and just chat away.

So you can see that we are meeting the parameters for this thread as laid out from the outset. You seem to be about the only person who has a problem with it, so I too recommend that you simply skip it as you peruse the forums.

If there is (as you stated last time we went through this) someone else who has an interest in destroying the thread, let them come forward and say so. Don't be their lackey.

Jusdt because Model RR has one as well does not make it any more correct then the one in this forum. If you want to talk about food go to a food forum. I am sure you will learn far more about food then you will in this forum.

Now on to a much better, and pleasant topic: today's LUNCH menu:

patty melts with lettuce, tomato, cheese and onion on them (if you want onion),
and pretzel sticks (or you can have potato chips).

Dessert: angel food cake with strawberry Jell-O.
