Since no one had any requests for supper, here is what I've come up with:

Small scale Mexican Fiesta:

Tacos, enchiladas, quesadillas, Spanish rice, beef &bean burritos, beef burritos enchilada style, tamales,

Joe, a container is fixed for your supper tonight at work, and is waiting in the fridge for you.  Hope you have a good evening at work.

We are also wondering how these fuel prices are going to affect us this winter, as far as heating and cooking goes.  And our local gas & electric company keeps wanting to raise prices, yet again.  They just raised them not too long ago, if my memory is working correctly, along with the water bill.  Angry [:(!]Banged Head [banghead]

You all enjoy your supper, and have a good evening.

afternoon

headlines in the paper at the babershop.GM more cuts...Food stamp demand increases... Larry I'm worried about how much more it will cost to heat our home this winter too.(we have natural gas).We saw the maw waddle some cars to the csx siding and The Y101 for csx has to use the crossover at FC to get the switching done. The crossover by the yard needs work.Cw thanks for supper.

Quentin, I can't see things getting better until the troops come home. The economy should get a boost when the Guardsmen return to their regular jobs.

The Canadian dollar is back above the Greenback, so we're seeing fewer US tourists up here this summer. There will be more Canadians cross-border shopping or touring the USA, which should be good news for communities near the Canadian border.

A poster on a non-railroad forum I'm on is forecasting doom-and-gloom.  I've no doubt we may be in for some rough times, it's just a question of who's gonna get hurt - the risk takers who put us here, or the little people who are simply trying to get by.

I've come to the conclusion that $4 gas may be taking a chunk out of my life, but that $5+/hour that's gonna be running through my oil-fired furnace this winter will be a bigger factor.

Since it's going to be a very warm day, lunch is going to be:

1.  Tuna salad sandwiches w/your choice of chips or fries

2.  Tomatoes filled with tuna or cottage cheese

3.  Open-face roast beef sandwiches w/mashed potatoes & gravy, green beans, and choice of cole slaw or garden salad

We ended up with 99 people at Produce this morning.  On the truck today was lettuce mix (iceburg, romaine, green and purple cabbage, grapefruits, and watermelons.  They only brought us 35 watermelons, so the first 35 were the only ones to get a watermelon.

Taking requests for supper tonight.  If any of you have a request, please let me know what they are, no later than 4 p.m. EDT, so I can get it prepared.  Thank you!

Story (maybe a repeat) - My father enjoyed sliced tomatos with sugar on them (pretty tasty - I like 'em that way, too).  As a result, the picnic table usually included a salt shaker with sugar in it.  It was different from the salt and pepper shaker set, so we didn't mix them up.

My uncle was a sheriff's deputy.  If he was on patrol in our area around dinner time on Sundays, he'd sometimes drop by for a burger, etc.  On one occasion he grabbed what he thought was the salt shaker and liberally applied the contents to his hamburger.  It was OK until he took a bite....

He gratiously ate the hamburger, but always checked carefully from then on....

I'll be in the corner with my bearclaw and tea.

Good Tuesday morning, everyone!  Hope you all had a good evening, and also hope you all have a great day today.

Coffee, juices, tea and lemonade are ready to go, and on the breakfast/warmer bar this morning:  bagels, bear claws, turkey bacon, pork sausage links & patties, scrambled eggs, homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy, fresh cantaloupe and watermelon chunks.

Well, it's time for me to go get ready for this morning's Tuesday Produce zoo of people.  See you all later.

Joe, got your container ready for work, with a little bit of chicken cordon bleu, and beef and noodles w/mixed veggies.

Willy, thank you for your suggestion of the ccb.  I'll have to remember to add that periodically to the Cafe menu.

Ray, hope everything goes well with your next interview Wednesday.

You all have a great evening.  Looks like another good day on tap for tomorrow.  Humidty is down, and a high in the low to mid 80s for tomorrow.

I remember a time during the mid 70's when a fireworks distributorship went up in flames at a location a few miles south of Sioux Falls. I think it was caused by the improper disposal of a cigarette butt.

I was just on the phone with the manager of one of our Culver's restaurants, the same individual who had interviewed me this past Friday afternoon. He told me that Culver's Empire Mall store wants to hire me! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] I called this store in particular and arranged to meet with "Amanda" the hiring manager this coming Wednesday. I can do this with ease because I will have the day off from my job at Wendy's. When I meet with Amanda though, I am going to ask her if she can garrantee me 25 hours per week.

Willy, you're getting your wish:  here's today's lunch and supper menu:

1.  chicken cordon bleu

2.  beef noodles w/mixed veggies

And for dessert:  chocolate cake w/white icing, yellow cake w/chocolate icing, and the following cobblers:  apple, blackberry, blueberry, cherry, and peach.

Everything is on the warmer bar a little bit early:  just got a phone call from the library, and have a couple of books that were on reserve, that have come in.  So going to go pick them up, and drop off a couple of books I've read, and also donate a couple of books to the library.

Ten trips down, fifteen to go, assuming nothing untoward happens in the meantime.  Generally three trips each day I work, so five more workdays.

Calendar-wise, probably early September, unless I double up some weekends.I've got a lot going on in late July and early August that will keep me off the railroad.

That'll put me right on time for the fall colors rush.

In other rail news - I may get a chance to shoot an old air-operated Jordan spreader in operation this week.   Just waiting for the call and trying to figure out what story I'll tell my boss as I rush out of the building.  One of the crew members wants me to get some video with his camera, so I'll be able to get up close an personal...

Fireworks may also prove the undoing of a fire department (to remain unnamed, although it is in the news, and it's not mine), after video surfaced of members shooting off fireworks inside their station....

Damp day on the railroad Sunday, but things went well and we had reasonable patronage.  Got in three more trips toward making conductor.  Also had a first - we had another train that needed to use the same siding we use for our runaround at the "out" end of our trips.   They were coming in from the other direction.  Rather than issue multiple "Form D's", the dispatcher opted to place the section of track including the passing siding "out of service."  That meant that the "employee" holding the OOS track could give permission to use it without going through the dispatcher.  It worked well, and saved us all a lot of paper work.  The cool part (if you will) was that the track was out of service in charge of me - a first.

Looks like a decent week, weather wise.  Still got lots to do on the guest room, so I'll stay busy after work.

Something simple for lunch and dinner.

Good Monday morning, everyone!  Ray, I tried to get in earlier, but couldn't get in.  And, your breakfast sounds pretty good to me this morning.  The only things I'll add are sausage, eggs, and homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy.

Joe, sounds like you're going to have a busy day.  Hope you manage to get a good nap in, before work tonight.

Does anyone have any requests for our lunch and supper tonight?  If so, I'll try to get it all prepared in time.  You all have a good morning, and take care.

Hello everyone!  Sure is nice to be back, after not being able to get in for a couple of days!  Joe and Ray, thank you both for taking care of the meals over the weekend.

Mutt and I called and talked with JHH a little while ago:  to wish him a HAPPY BIRTHDAY, since today is his birthday.    He is doing all right.  And could hear Duchess barking in the background:  she was wanting to go out for her walk.

Hope you all have had a nice weekend, and also hope you have a great evening!
