Q and Tree:  Well, another rain storm and another fire.  This time a one story medical bldg.  Lightning hit roof and poof.  I wonder if the city fathers will consider all these fires as urban renewal?  This is getting very $$$$!

Thanx CW - I love a good "real" soda.....

Mookie, I'll get started on the old fashioned sodas while everyone eats supper.  Along with the roast tonight, we have the shellie beans w/onion and cut bacon pieces, and mashed taters w/gravy, and your choice of cole slaw or garden salad.  Desserts are the red velvet cake, chocolate cake, and the old fashioned sodas.

Everyone have a good evening, and try to stay as cool as possible!

Joe, your container is ready and in the fridge for work tonight, next to a large jug of lemonade for you.

Q - we were just making some strides in our 401's and then the forced retirement for me and the big minus sign on both.  I need at least another 40 years for this to even out....

Joe - poo - lemonade makes my teeth itch.  If I get enough sugar in it to actually drink it, I go into a coma.

Saw a Kawasaki motorcycle (an expensive one) try to bite a tire on an SUV.  SUV 1, motorcycle and rider 0.  He is injured, but not enough to call medical.  Just saw the aftermath - motorcycle will need new mirrors and anything that stuck out farther than the gas tank.  Ouch!

heavy dew out there right now, but mostly heading up to pound on Willy's door.

CW, I think we need old-fashioned sodas.  Not the "soda" in a can - the ice cream/fizzy water kind - with whip cream and cherry on top - Strawberry for me, please!

....J:

Whatever kind of investment folks are dealing with now can't be easy to look at....Might be a few exceptions.

Suppose we can hope it {this crisis}, will eventually come to an end too as they have before.....Look at the market on a graph that stretches it out over decades and the average trend has always been up.....Your money {you put in now}, buys more too.....just waiting to reap the benefits when it {hopefully}, heads back up.

Now wouldn't it be nice if it would soon start doing that.....like it's been doing these last few days.

Tree:  Throw Mama from the train?

Dale:  They look like our box elder bugs.  Also don't bite, just kinda ugly.  I am going to have to investigate that site.  Looks interesting and I have always been a little buggy and butterfly-ie.

Tom - Red Velvet will do just fine.  If it is cake, it is good!

Q - my 401 is getting seasick!  Dead [xx(]

Sounds good.

A building down the street got a fresh coat of white paint this week, and now it is covered by a dozen or so Banded Alder Borers. Big bugs that don't bite, and I've never seen them before.

....Yes, wild swings in the Market now seem so fickle, but think I'll go and pull up a graph  of say....the past year and that should give us a better idea in it's "trend".....That is what I'm looking for....Trend...Forecast.

Markets should be reflecting 6 to 9 mos. ahead and not the every day blips.  Guess that might be what a long range graph might have visible.

Tom - Thanks for brunch!

Supposed to be warm-ish here today, and thunderbumpers are in the forecast through Sunday or so.  No biggie - tested the raincoat last weekend and it worked just fine.

Still toiling on the new guest room.  Almost all of the paint is on the walls and I got the doorframes stripped last night.  Still have to get and cut some trim boards and a couple of rugs, get the bed assembled, and do the final clean up.

Also have to spit shine the house - Mom's coming for a visit (which is why I have to finish the guest room!)

Mookee, would you settle for red velvet cake with strawberry icing? If so, coming right up. Joe, I couldn't figure out the hazy part. Thanks for the fill.

At present, 71 in Carolina with haze, expecting to get up to 92 today with thunder late.

Everyone stay cool and blow for crossings....

We will gather up all the humidity and send it to Sir Chicken.  Had another apartment fire - this time a fan cord with clothes piled on top of it - overheated.  It rained on that fire, too.  I guess if people are going to inadvertantly start fires, it sets off the overhead sprinklers in the sky.  Neither apt bldg fire had sprinklers!  Duh.

Had some coffee - you know what really sounds good this morning - dark chocolate cake with chocolate icing.  Really!  Maybe the heat is getting to me!

Good Thursday morning, everyone.  Tom, thank you so much for fixing breakfast this morning!  You really laid it out this morning:  think you have just about everything anyone couldwant to eat this morning.  Eerything looks so good, I'm having a hard time deciding what I want to have on my plate.

Tom, I don't know what Joe will say about the third "H" today, but I say it's for hazy!  Think we'll be staying inside, as much as possible.

You all have a great morning, and see you later.

Mawnin'. I'm in early, so I will have a try at opening the place. On the counter, there are buttermilk pancakes, buttermilk biscuits and sausage gravy, link or patty sausage, grits, scrambled or fried eggs, some ham and cheese croissants, sausage and egg biscuits along with danishes, bear claws, jelly donuts and apple turnovers. Of course, juices and soft drinks or coffee as you may desire. Waffles are available by request.

Joe, what are the "triple Hs" ? I assume heat, humidity and ?

Everybody enjoy.

Well, did a fast trip to the grocery this morning, before it gets too hot outside around here.  We were running out of fruit punch, and I had run out of coffee (got myself a 1 lb. can of decaf.

Here is the menu for today:

Turkey sandwiches with your choice of the following cheeses:  cheddar, provolone, and American

BLTs w your choice of potato chips or fries

Steak burgers

Side dishes:  fresh red sliced tomatoes, your choice of green beans or green sweet peas w/carrots, apple sauce, cole slaw, potato salad, and cantaloupe and watermelon chunks.

Desserts:  Dutch apple pie, chocolate cake, pound cake w/strawberries & whipped cream, and peach cobbler.

The grand total at home was 3.41 inches. That matches up pretty well with what some other observations from my area were.

Friday will probably be sunny, hot, and dry. Wink [;)]

Supposed to be 97 here today. Will gladly take some of Mookie and Willy's 20% to get rid of the red flag warnings.

Got our first tomatoes off the vine last night. Guess we keep an eye out for Uncle Pete's steam kettle tomorrow (know copcar will be out there somewhere, I will be working at Sand Creek)

Heading off to go swimming in the gatorade vat. - Cowabunga!

Annie (or one of her counterparts - there are several) still attends every class.

There is a school of thought that doing just compressions is better than doing nothing, but proper CPR still requires ventilations.

Research has shown, however, that the old 5+2 ratio was next to useless - it takes about 10 compressions to even get effective circulation going, and when you stop to give a breath, that 'counter' resets to zero.  For a while it was 15 compressions before giving a breath.  Now we're up to 30.

Looks like a mid-morning shower - better go close the back-window slider on the truck.

Heard trains running overnite.  Really have missed them.  They weren't real busy, but sounded like a few loads of coal left town.

Good Wednesday morning, everyone.  Going to be another hazy, hot and humid day today.  Larry, remember that there's plenty of cantaloupe and watermelon in the fridge, that makes a good bedtime snack, along with a  bowl of cereal, or a bowl of ice cream.Wink [;)]

Coffee, juices, tea (hot and iced) and lemonade are ready, and there's also plenty of Gatorade.   On the breakfast bar this morning:  cantaloupe, watermelon, fresh sliced pineapple, cold cereal, bagels and bear claws, and homemade muffins.  Several different flavors on the muffins, including blueberry, strawberry, etc.

Could somebody give me a couple of suggestions for our noon and evening meals today?

We just had one of the most intense electrical storms I've ever seen move across all of Omaha and surrounding areas. There were times when I counted 4 or 5 cloud-to-ground lightning flashes in about 15 seconds. Omaha Public Power District says that 6,700 customers are without power, mainly due to lightning, although there was some wind as well. In addition, some parts of town have measured about 4 inches of rain, although I have yet to check my weather station and see how much we got at home. Wild and crazy stuff, and not too bad for a night when there was a 20% of a "thundershower".

Somehow I don't think fiesta food will make a good bedtime snack...

Just got done teaching a CPR class.  Time for bed.
