.....64 plus degrees here in central Indiana with overcast skies this morning.  Looks like possible rain at times today but not  an all day rain.  Calm, no wind.

Just seems to be a typical 4th {weatherwise}.....So often this is the typical 4th weather here.....Cooler, and a bit of rain.  So far, I've kept the windows closed....Don't know what the humidity is outside.  Will find out in a few when I walk down the driveway for the paper.

Starting tomorrow, we're to get warm.....and humid.

When I was attending our local community college, I usually went directly from work so always had a few minutes to kill.  One afternoon I was standing on the patio outside the student lounge, watching a rainshower pass.  You could see the line in the parking lot - rain on this side, none on that.  Pretty amazing.

Larry, that is pretty amazing; one of the best ones I've seen over the years, is while I was still in the National Guard and flying; was seeing a rain storm over a lake, it was raining on one shore, but quite dry on the other.

What was really Awesome, was seeing Both ends of a Rainbow at the same time!

Ray, very Good Luck on the interview, hope all works for you!

I can do the watermelon, and maybe a bit of the icecream...and leave the rest of the sweets for Beth...like she would leave any for someone to try!

Murray, you are so right:  let us all take time today to remember our military personnel who are currently on active duty!!

Ray:  good luck on the interview!!

The first round of our July 4th grill-out is now underway.  We have two "bars" set up:  1, the warmer bar, to keep the meats warm, and the 2nd one is strickly for all the cold foods and desserts.  They both have domes over them, to keep the insects out of our food.

We're in between light showers/drizzles for now.  Although, it looks like the clouds could open up at any time.  Everyone, enjoy your holiday meal, and the afternoon.

My interview this morning with HY-VEE went fairly well for me. I sat down and talked with a very nice gal who's name is Penney. The only problem that I did have is that when she asked me to give her a discription of what I do at Wendy's Old Fashioned Hamburgers, my mind kind of went blank for a moment. I did tell her that I kind of see myself as a team player who is more than willing to help others do their jobs. Penney told me that they are looking mainly to hire part time people and I responded that even though I am looking for full time work, I would be happy to accept any part time work that HY-VEE might offer me, and one of the last things that I said to her is that I want to demonstrate that I really want to work, and she wrote that down.

I think I will be going back to this store tomorrow morning to basically let Penney know what kind of hours I will be available to work. I was not able to give her a definitive answer as to what kind of hours I would be available to work. I should be able to work something out between HY-VEE and Wendy's if HY-VEE offers me employment. Penney did tell me that there is a possibility that I will be called for a second interview.

The "Water Buckets" I'm familiar with; (for Firefighting & National Guard helicopters)

generally only hold several hundreds of gallons of water  .....with the rain that we've

had the last two days, it would take a month (or longer) to fill a bucket!

Would be very Happy to send it otherwise.

We are getting some well-needed monsoonal rains today coming from the southeast from the Gulf of Mexico.

Despite it being the 4th of July its GREAT to see rain here. We'll gladly take every drop.

Ray:  They could have used you at our local McD's this morning at breakfast.  They, unfortunately, didn't get one order right.  They had two lines - one to get the food and the 2nd to return it either for lack of part of it, or cold.  I stood back quite awhile and watched them (having been in restaurant business.)  It looked like a sale in a bargain basement - pure chaos.  I ended up with only 1/2 of one order, no silverware, 2/3's of two other orders - but....I got the coffee right and with extra cream and sugar for the Driver and the Old Engineer.  I did so want to jump in and help them out!  They just needed a little, teeny bit of organization somewhere between the kitchen and the cash register.

Good luck on the job!  There isn't much out there right now.

Good Saturday morning, everyone.  Did everyone have a nice 4th of July celebration?  We sat out on the front porch, and watched and listened to the fireworks going off in the neighborhood.  Boy, was it smoky around here last night, along with it being foggy, after the rain got out of here.

Coffee, juices and teas (hot and cold) ready and waiting.  On the warmer bar this morning:  turkey bacon, sausage (links & patties, pork, turkey and all natural), buttermilk pancakes and scrambled eggs.  And there's also some canatloupe, pineapple slices and watermelon.

I hope you all enjoy your day, and whatever you do, and wherever you go, be careful out there and take care, so you can make it back in tonight for our Saturday Night Pizza Fest.

Good morning! CW, thanks for breakfast. Just like I likem. Currently 70 degrees in Carolina, headed for 83 and thunderstorms again. Seems like a cold front must have come through. I hope all of you had a good 4th and it continues to a great weekend. Stay safe and cool

....Been over on the Cajon Pass post responding  to K P's good updates and photos....About 45 min. ago...our weather instrument registered 66 degrees.  It's overcast too.  Looks like it shows little signs of possible breakup now....It is supposed to be a rather warm and sunny day.

I'm kind of counting on it to be dry to do another mowing.

The 4th was quiet around here....and a bit of very light rain at times.

I went over to my sister's house for dinner at 5:00 yesterday and got home at about 9:00 PM. Right away I proceeded to light a few firecrackers when some dumb girl next door to me started yelling at me, "Knock it off!!" I lit a total of 4 Black Cats when I heard "I'm gonna call the cops!!" I won't say what I yelled at her in response, but if she had come outside and politely asked me to quit lighting firecrackers instead of being a B**** about it, she might have gotten a more positive response from me.

People all over my neighborhood last night were lighting fireworks, which of course is illegal within our city limits, and our police officers are spread too thin to be able to do anything about it. And of course the noise didn't let up until after 11:00 PM here. I think that if I were to go for a walk along the bike trails which run alongside the Sioux River, I would find alot of debris from fireworks.

(yawn)....am I allowed to do that in front of everyone?

Well, we were in the house after 5 pm last nite.  Fireworks with report and bottle rocket types are illegal and yet between the M80's+ and whistle of bottle rockets, I felt like I was in a bunker.  Doesn't seem to be a shortage of gas $$$ to go to Missouri to buy the illegals, drive them back here and spend more of the $$$$ people don't have to blow up the city for two days.  Figure my neighbors must be extremely wealthy!!!!!

Stopped for the most part by midnite (that's the one law they seem to observe) and then at 7:15 (whilst checking the backs of my eyelids for holes) heard some more loud banging.  No rain, just lots of thunder!  Retaliation?  Wink [;)]

Must find some coffee.

Mookie- I've heard it been said that if you are going to spend your hard earned money on fireworks, then you might as well be burning it. I've got 144 x 3 bottle rockets on hand and the only reason I seldomly light any of them is that I would end up littering the parking lot of the credit union across the street from me.....and they should not have to clean up after me! And yes, there are a lot of good things that I would rather be spending my money on, something that I can permanently enjoy, such as music on CDs, railroad books, video tapes and CDs.

Ray - it sounded to me like they burned up the equivalence of the Congressional payroll for a year.  Viva la ban - might as well burn that off the books, too.  And that wasn't even the city's part of it, either.  The city cut services past the bone and then blows up the north side of Lincoln each 4th.  Confused [%-)]

Walt - won't get close enough to asparagus to see if it burns.

Doogie (one determined scottie) just digs it up lately so I can't tell you if it smolders...the asparagus patch is a moonscape....the wire garden fence that protected the asparagus is a wreck.

.....Stopped and purchased some lunch and Jean and I pulled over to the depot {under a shade tree}, and had a bit of lunch in the truck.

Was about to leave and heard the Newcastle DP talking about "you can leave behind number so so, etc....", so we waited a bit and soon heard the horn as it worked it's way down past our mall and past the depot....A very long double stack train....Very smooth headed south....Containers from China, Italy and wherever else....Must have been well over a mile long.   Noted just 2 flat wheels on the whole consist.  Really sounded smooth as it glided past.  2 6 axle GE's on the head end making it all happen.

All this on the Newcastle line @ about 3 pm.  Lots of bikers out today {our trail is right beside it at that location}.

Mudburd, your yard sounds like a friend of mine's a few years ago. He had just gotten a big puppy, named him Muttley. He came to work one day and announced that his yard looked like somebody had been throwing hand grenades. It's amazing what a dog can do....

Good evening, everyone!

Mudchicken and Tom, we have to keep a close eye on our dog, Winter, whenever we have her outside:  she likes to use her nose, to dig in the dirt in the flowerbeds, and under the pine tree and try to tunnel under the fence.  And, she's good at opening doors.

Meant to post the pizza menu for tonight, earlier:  but, I fell asleep, sitting in my rocker/recliner.  Mutt woke me up.  Good thing I had the pizzas all ready to pop into the oven!  But, now they're out of the oven, sliced, and put on the warmer bar.  The pizzas for tonight are:

1.  cheese

2.  goetta

3.  Hawaiian

4.  pepperoni/mushroom

5.  Mexican

6.  supreme

7.  pepperoni & cheese calzones

You all have a good evening, and enjoy your pizzas.

We have two delinquents named Heidi (Bijon mix) and Laci (Maltese). Laci is OK, but Heidi will break out of the fence and head for the hills in the flash of an eye. They live inside and only go out every so often, and we are pleased to get them back inside. We had a yard dog named Missy, now deceased, who was the ideal watchdog. Nothing escaped her attention. I told someone that she was a borkin spaniel cause she borked all the time! They can really get under your skin and are more like children. Gotta go, a thunderstorm is bearing down on us........

Good Sunday morning, everyone!  Looks like it will be a rather warm day around our home area.  I think they are calling for a high of 90, with the humidity rising also.  (yuck)

Here's coffee, fruit juices, lemonade and tea (cold and hot).

On the breakfast bar:  cinnamon rolls, several flavors of muffins, bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, and buttermilk pancakes and waffles.  And we've got cantaloupe and watermelon chunks in the fridge.

Does anyone have any requests for Sunday Dinner today?  If so, please let me know as early as possible, so I can start preparing our meal for the day.

We have 75 degrees here in Sioux Falls, and the humidity is sitting right at 75%. The temperature here will hit 85 or a little better than that before this day is over with. Tomorrow it is supposed to be a bit cooler here.

Right now I am taking care of some mundane, routine chores, such as doing a load of laundry and I just finished scrubbing the toilet in my bathroom, and UGH!! , it needed it.

CW, thanks for fixing breakfast for all of us, I think I'll grab a couple pancakes and a cinnamon roll while I am in here. I am hungry this morning. I've got a package of Betty Crocker blueberry muffin mix and I might just make myself some blueberry muffins before I head for work at 11:00. Chef [C=:-)]
