.....Our top that I saw today was 91. something.....and humidity to go along with it.  Severe short rain and wind {maybe 60 mph}, late this afternoon...{.8"}.

Seems we'll be in that pattern next few days.

Evening all.....

A warm one here as well, thermometer topped out at 90 this afternoon near Milwaukee, WI, but suspect part of theat was reflected heat.  Hauled tail on the ohio and indy toll roads to get here, and got stuck in the mess they call Chicago.  No good way for a rig to get through, all roads are under construction.

Spent last weekend up in Tomah, WI for the 33rd annual Dairyland Grand National NTPA truck and tractor pull, shot over 300 photos.  Really good show, including a spectacular turbocharger explosion on an alcohol super stock tractor.  Only got a shot of the aftermath, though.....

See y'all later, got 7 rolls of paper to drop off in the morning, be glad to get this 46,000lb load off of me.....

Good Friday morning, everyone!  Randy, glad you could come by last night!  We're supposed to get back up to around 94 today, I believe, with another 30% chance of thundershowers/storms around 5 p.m., about the time time they arrived yesterday.

Along with the regular Friday Doughnuts & Danishes, looks like someone came in with some Jimmy Dean Sausage Biscuits for the Cafe this morning.  And there are bagels and bear claws as well this morning.

So, grab your coffee, or juice, tea or Gatorade, and pick up a plate and help yourself to the Friday morning breakfast.

And Mookie, I haven't forgotten about the strawberry sundaes for tonight.

.....70 degrees at  my first check here this morning....Light clouds.  Jean says we had some thunder and rain during the night.  I didn't hear it.

Last evening, our rain gauge contained .8" of rain and I didn't empty it so I'll see what was added....Another chance of thunderstorms passing thru again today, probably in the pm....

House is closed as I would wager it's rather humid outside.  We'll check that out a bit later as we walk down the driveway to retrieve the paper.

But first, it's to the TV in a few minutes to catch Morning Joe.....

Everyone have a good Friday.

Morning all. 3 degrees on the way to HOT in Carolina this morning. The midland of SC had a rough day yesterday, with three houses being hit by lightning and burning. Jimmy Dean didn't show up, and now I see why. CW shanghaied him! I guess I will be in in a few to get MY sausage biscuits. Another day at the quack is in store and then hopefully a nice dinner with friends. Everybody stay cool.

Tom, don't know what happened to your Jimmy Dean Sausage Biscuits, but it wasn't ME who shanghaied the truck.  We had a delivery coming anyway, along with the Gatorade delivery.  That one just arrived a few minutes ago.  Hope everything goes well with your doctor visit!

Our Friday Fish Fry is now out on the warmer bar.  Our fish menu today includes:

Bass, catfish, cod, perch, hallibut, haddock, salmon patties, jumbo shrimp, rolled oysters: and the following side dishes:  corn on  the cob, fries, hushpuppies, cole slaw, baked beans.

Desserts today:  yellow cake w/caramel icing, and the following pies:  apple, cherry, peach, blueberry, pecan, and a strawberry cobbler, along with the strawberry sundaes (don't worry Mookie, there's plenty of strawberry sundaes to have for tonight, also).

You all have a great afternoon, and if you're in the area for more thundershowers/storms this afternoon, early evening, take care and be safe!

Well, spent the morning getting a few things done and waiting for a phone call about a part that had been ordered for work.  After finding out the part was in, I went on in (although my office doesn't know I was there - I was at the airfield) and installed it - that went flawlessly.

I was at the airfield because the part was in anticipation of this year's airshow.  It was worth the trip even if I didn't have to install the part.   The various aircrews were practicing their routines.  What a show!

I also got a chance to wander through a real, live B17, by special invitation.  Don't let the movies fool you - there isn't as much room inside one of those birds as the movies might let you believe.  Folding my 6'5" frame into an airplane built for 5'10" crewmen was an experience.  Had a bit of a chat with her crew, too.

This particular airplane is also something of a movie star, having appeared in "Tora, Tora, Tora" and another movie whose name I can't recall.  It'll come to me later, I'm sure.

Of course, the B-17 was one of the largest airplanes of the day.  However, parked across the ramp was a C-5 Galaxy, which could have just about eaten the B-17 whole.

There's a B-25 Mitchell bomber there, too, but I'll have to wait until tomorrow to check that out.

There are also some prop planes there for performance, as well as some F-17's and F-18's.  I want to tell you - those are some impressive airplanes.   Both can exceed the speed of sound, which makes their ability to almost hover (forward speed about 50 mph, nose high) even more impressive.

More of that Saturday and Sunday.

Warm, less humid today.  Willy is out of town and Omaha got smacked royally just a few min ago.  60 mph winds, lots of tree damage - and rain.  We got spit on.

Went fishing/sitting with the Driver.  He caught a few, but only patted them and sent them back for another day.  Almost getting too warm to fish during the day.

Had lunch with 2 ladies that were RIF'd with me.  It was a good lunch - we will do it about once a month.

Mookie, sounds like you had a very enjoyable day!  And speaking of fish, I've replenished everything on the warmer bar for tonight's Fish Fry.

Here at home, we're not having fish tonight.  Just got through fixing some Hamburger Helper Lasagna for our supper.  Haven't had it for awhile, and thought it sounded really good.

Humidity is up here, around 60+ percent; storms should be in sometime during the night, if not before.  Supposed to be a very rainy Saturday here in the Louisville area.

I'll go for some of that "comfort food" CW. (but not a steady diet of the stuff) with blue gatorjuice as a chaser. (Put so much of that stuff away that my feathers are turning blue)

Almost 100 degrees here yesterday and have been outside all week. Plan to sack-in Saturday morning if the furballs will let me.

I agree w/ mudchicken.. I too will take some of that good old comfort food. Fish Fry sounds great!!

As CW said earlier humidity is up to 60%, I think it has to do with the Thunderstorm that we received last night. There also was a pretty cool lighting show to go along w/ the thunder. I'm just glad the electricity didn't get cut off.

Well... I had an intresting day today. It started off with the clean up of a derailment in the North end of Osborn Yard here in Louisville. As it turns out, the "Pin Puller" (Hump job) didn't line the other end of a crossover and ended up running through a switch. He put two engines on the ground. The Hump job is also RCO controlled. He tore up about 2,000ft of track on our Yard Runaround track. RJ Corman rerailed the engines and I had the pleasure of getting the units into the service center. After RJ Corman did there work, CSX MOW repaired the track and had it finished early afternoon. SO Much for trying to be 100 days Human Factor Derailment free. lol

....Some years ago we had a B-17 and Liberator B-24 come in here to our airport for a show....When they arrived, they made a pass right over the field {very low}, one right after the other and  that was awesome.....!

Might have been the same B-17....There are not too many of those flying anymore.

We've had all kinds of WWII fighter planes here too....My choice for beauty would be a beautiful silver Corsair.....and they were fast for their day too.  The P-51 Mustang was a beauty too.....and made a great sound.

Boy, that stuff is getting old now when one thinks about it.....

Saw a B-17 on display in Leesburg, Fl., back a couple of years ago...and got to see it take off too....and a Stearman biplane took off right behind it and it seemed like it only went about 50' until the tail rose off the tarmack.....

Good Saturday morning, everyone!  A little bit cooler this morning, but humidity is still up. Supposed to have a cold front come in for tomorrow, and all next week should be fairly good weather, until the 4th, when they say we may see some of Mother Nature's fireworks!
We have another chance of thunder boomers later on this afternoon.  We had a pretty good lightning show around 9 o'clock last night.  We were all trying to watch a movie, and listening to the weather radio blaring  thunderstorm warnings.  But, we were able to watch the whole movie:  K-19, with Harrison Ford and Liam Neeson.  Pretty good movie.

Coffee, juices, teas, lemonade and Gatorade ready to go this morning.  On the warmer bar this morning:  sausage, turkey bacon, grits, danish, sos & mashed taters, blueberry muffins, buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy, scrambled eggs, buttermilk pancakes w/plenty of maple syrup, french toast, fresh cantaloupe slices and home fries.

With a breakfast menu like this, everyone should be able to fill their tummies, until time for our Saturday Night Pizza Fest.  Everyone have a great day, and keep an eye on the skies for storms.

....And up here it's 72 degrees and overcast.  Another day with possible thunderboomers passing by.  Very hard rain late last evening as a "system" passed thru but lasted briefly.  Anxious to peek at the rain gauge to see just how much we received in about a half hour.  Didn't seem to have any serious wind with it this time....

Our best wishes to all for a good weekend.

.....I have traveled I-70 now ever since it was built {across Ohio}, and hearing that news of it being flooded east of Columbus last night on the news was really surprising to me....

They must have had a downpour from a system that was stationary for an extended period of time to bring up water to cover that route...

Very surprising.  But I know other interstate routes have been covered lately with all the flooding in our midwest, etc......

Well, I've got the warmer bar cleaned off, and now some of the pizzas for tonight's PIZZA FEST are on the warmer bar.  Until I see how many will be in here tonight, I've only got two extra large of each of the following out:

1.  anchovie

2.  cheese

3.  peperoni/mushroom

3.  goetta

4.  Hawaiian

5.  supreme

6.  calzones

Now, to go check and see if the dryer has finished the cycle, so I can say I'm through with laundry for tonight.

Pizza sounds good, now that I'm back from Day 1 of the airshow.  Started off wet - so much so that the air performances were delayed 90 minutes.  Then about 4 hours in we got socked again, however briefly.  Dumped a lot of rain, though.

Nonetheless, we got to watch some performances:

The P40 and P51 basically did some flybys:

The B25 also did flybys - for a bomber, it sure did a good job as a ground support airplane!

As impressive as the B17 is, when I talked to the crew of the C-5 they told me that they had, in fact, carried a B17 with the wings removed in a C-5...

The white stuff around the top of the wings and off the wingtips of this Navy F18 is condensation, caused by the vacuum created by the wings at certain times...  Usually when they're pulling some pretty hefty G's...

Back there tomorrow for a repeat.  Hopefully the weather will be substantially better.

Just dug out that that B17 appeared not only in "Tora, Tora, Tora", but also in "The High and the Mighty," which starred Robert Stack and John Wayne, among others.  The ship appeared in it's post-war roll as a long-range search and rescue airplane for the Coast Guard.

Larry, nice shots!

I have lately been addicted to a British series called Foyles' War, set in WWII England, near Hastings.  In a few of the episodes, they run a WWII Spitfire through its paces.  Very good series, I just need to get home again to pick up the latest set (Barnes and Noble sells the series)

Hopefully see everyone later today, running the Pennsylvania Turnpike today, will find out if they have Wi-Fi at their service plazas (New York and Ohio do).

Good Sunday morning, everyone!  We never saw any of the rain yesterday; it just got overcast, and then you could feel the breeze pick up.  Felt really nice outside last night.  Today, our high is only going to be in the upper 70s, maybe low 80s.

Larry, you got some great shots yesterday!  Those are very good pictures!

Coffee, juices, teas and lemonade are ready to go this morning, and there's another tank of Gatorade hooked up.

On the breakfast bar this morning:  blueberry and strawberry muffins, cinnamon rolls, cinnamon toast, french toast, sausage, homemade buttermilk biscuits & gray; and Tom's favorite:  buttermilk pancakes w/syrup.

I don't know if he'll be anywhere around here today, but Chad Thomas:  Happy B-Day [bday] Happy B-Day [bday] HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CHAD!!

.....Those Pennsylvania Turnpike Plazas.....Oh what a sad tale they are {to me}, and I almost never stop at one anymore.....{Worked at one over 50 years ago}.  Of course they now are so "plastic" with fast food, etc.....and no comparson to the originals.

They all were Esso {Eastern States Std. Oil}, and Howard Johnsons restaurants....Real Food.  I'm speaking of the original portion of the Pike {160}, miles.

Temp here this morning is cooler....67.  Believe we're to see low 70's only today.  Maybe we'll be able to open windows later....Haven't been out for the paper yet and know not about what the humidity might be.  Over an inch of rain off and on here yesterday.  Another yard mowing....It likes the rain and so it "grows".....
