Happy Birthday to Sarah!  You had a great birthday here in the true midwest.  It was sunny, breezy and not too humid.  And no rain!

I watched the Driver exercise the bass again - drag 'em out, throw them back, drag 'em out, throw them back.  He said he caught one pretty good sized one, but he was behind a big tree and I missed it all.  He is far enough away I can't hear him holler and he sez I am always looking at the other people, looking up a tree, or checking my eyelids for holes!  Hmmph....

Even interacted with the wildlife - had to tell a 7 stripe ground squirrel and a common, garden variety squirrel to quit staring at me - I had no food to give them.  I thought the common squirrel was going to open the car door and check!  Shoulda given him that Tic-Tac I had.....

Early Happy Father's Day to all!  Off to sand land - too much fresh air! Sleepy [|)]

.....Our Sunday start is 65 degrees, with sunny skies.  looks like a beautiful late Spring day.  Our near by Festival finishes up today and it looks like a good day for it.

Lots of hot air balloons finally got a chance to take off from it and fly last evening.  A perfect evening for it....and sky divers with sport parachutes.....and those flying "lawn chairs" were buzzing around the area last evening.  They look like fun, but don't think I'd care to be in one.  We used to see lots of them in Florida.

Happy Father's Day to all fathers on here.....Looks like nice weather for it at least in our area.

Good Sunday morning to all, and HAPPY FATHER'S DAY to all the Fathers here in the Cafe/Diner and the other forum threads!  Hope you all have a great day!  Also, if Mark H. is around, Happy B-Day [bday] Mark, and Happy Father's Day!

Joe, thanks for getting breakfast this morning!  I've been awake just long enough to get the coffee going here at home.

Joe, as good as the birthday cake is, I think I'll go with pancakes and and a couple of sausage for breakfast.

You all have a great morning, and I'll be back later on, especially just around noontime, to get SUNDAY DINNER warmed up, and on the warmer bar.

Good Morning!

Thought I was going to sleep late this morning, but then the NOAA Weather Radio sounded for a severe thunderstorm watch, so now I'm up. Storms to the west will get here before too much longer.

Happy Father's Day to all of the Dads that are out there!

Happy Belated Birthday to Matt and Sarah and Happy Birthday to Mark! Happy B-Day [bday]

EDIT 9:05 AM: A very nice thunderstorm just moved across Omaha and surrounding areas. Lots of reports of trees down and power outages across the area. Plus, nine-tenths of an inch of rain in half an hour. Such a nice way to start the day!

Meat loaf, mashed taters w/gravy, corn on the cob, shellie beans, etc., are all warmed up, and on the warmer bar.  On the cool end of the food bar, you'll find cole slaw, sliced pineapple, and fruit salad.

There's still plenty of birthday cake and ice cream left, so help yourselves, after your finish eating.

Hope all you Dads are enjoying your Father's Day!!

I just got back from a short train watching trip.  They are moving coal in from the east and out to the south.  Talked to a friend trackside and he said last Monday at 6:15 am, he saw the circus train go through headed for Colorado Springs!  I can't imagine that the circus train would go through here, but it played Council Bluffs (?) the night before.  That would have been something I would have like to see!

Taking some box lunches for later in the day, CW.  This is a favorite of mine!  Had a cup of coffee about 90 min ago and must tie myself to the chair, now.  Not used to coffee after not getting it each morning at work!

Well, had the pleasure of wish my son a happy Father's Day - his first!  He's a good dad.

Worked on the railroad today.  Sometimes trying to train someone who knows how to do the job to do it our way is a challenge.  We tend to use a lot of hand signals, and that's not an easy transition for someone used to using the radio.

Next weekend should be even more interesting.  I'll be senior trainman, with another trainee; we'll also have a conductor I've never worked with, plus a student conductor, and a student engineer as well (the engineer will be an old head).  Lots of help, but half of them will be in training!

Time to get ready for work tomorrow.

....And where are all the early birds this morning....67 degrees here for our start and pretty bright with light clouds and mostly sunshine.

Had a line of weather pass over us last evening rather fast and head southeast.

See moderate size tree limbs down around this area and the lights blinked several times, but again....we kept our power.  Don't know if we have any local damage from the brief strong winds with it.

Late news had all five upcoming week days showing sunshine and just a little clouding for each day this week.....Amazing, we've not seen a report like that for some time.  Now if it holds, and isn't changed several times, look like a nice weather forecast for this week.

Got my mowing accomplished yesterday after the race so I'm set for 4 days on that job......Now, if I could just get my little truck polished since it's clean......Like it shining in tip top shape.

So best wishes to all to go into the new week......

Quentin, the doors were locked, when I tried to get in here; tried for two hours, to no avail.

Coffee, juices,  hot tea and iced teas are ready.  And on the breakfast bar this morning:  bagels, bear claws, turkey bacon, pork sausage patties and links, fried taters, homemade buttermilk pancakes w/syrup, homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy, oatmeal & toast, and boxes of cereal are on the counter.

It's beginning to cloud up outside, andwe're supposed to have some scattered showers/thunderstorms coming in.  Not supposed to be an all day thing.  Hope not, as I have several things I need to do today.

Oops:  now hearing thunder outside, and just saw a flash of lightning, so getting off here.  See you all later.

Good morning everyone. It's a late start this morning, but what the hey? Currently 82 degrees and sunny in Carolina this lovely day. I spent several hours last night listening to music from the '60s and after Carly Simon, Linda Ronstatt, Leslie Gore and several different groups, I was mellow as jello and slept well. At one point of my young life, I was a DJ at a top 40 station and this sure brings back memories. I should have stayed in that business. Ah well... Stay safe

We have a local station that plays 60's and 70's.  I have it on for most of the day.  I love it and the music has withstood the test of time!

....Tom, there are many, but I'll go back just a tick farther and mention a name that brings me down a peg or two, and stop.....and listen....Teresa Brewer.  What energy in her songs and a beat that was all happyness....!

PS:  Believe I noted she passed away just last year or possibly the year before.

It always tickles me when some group or another does a cover of an old song, or one gets used in a new movie, and the youngsters of today fall all over it like it's something brand new.

Ah!  The GOOD OLE ROCK N ROLL!!  Of course, we have to include the 50s in that group, also!  Quentin, I believe you're correct:  Teresa Brewer did pass on, and it has been at least about a year ago, if not two years.  Now, I'm gonna want to either turn the CD player on, or turn on the local FM oldies station.

Our current temp is in the the mid 80s, and the sun is shining.  Still have the probability of scattered showers, storms until about 5 p.m.   But Mutt and I managed to get out, after the thunder shower this morning, and got a couple of errands done.

Since I had the special birthday dinner Saturday and yesterday, today we'll have our MONDAY VERSION of our Saturday Night Pizza Fest:

1.  Anchovie
2.  Cheese
3.  Pepperoni/mushroom
4.  Special (with all toppings on it)
5.  Pepperoni/Italian sausage
6.  Supreme

Hope you all have a great afternoon, and you just might hear some good ole Rock n Roll on the CD player here in the Cafe this afternoon.  (Maybe one of these years, we'll be able to get an actual Juke Box in here!)

Could someone please refresh my memory:  Is Leslie Gore the one who sang "Bobby's Girl"?  And who sang "Leader of the Pack"?

My Dad was both a well known radio broadcaster and a musicoligist who had a career in radio which lasted 55 years, having gotten started with KSOO here in Sioux Falls in 1936. That very same year he went on the air with his own Christmas radio program which he named "Holiday Inn". In 1952, two years before I was born, the big Holiday Inn hotel corporation brought a lawsuit against my father, claiming that he was using their good name without their consent. My Dad was able to demonstrate before the judge that he had gotten the title from the motion picture "White Christmas", starring Bob Hope and Bing Crosby. The hotel corporation dropped their lawsuit and they more or less settled with a gentlemen's agreement. The interesting thing about all this is that in 1978 the innkeeper of our local downtown Holiday Inn asked my Dad to come and work for him as a sales agent, and this my Dad did for about two or three years.

Dad died of pancreatic cancer in August of 1991, and it is a shame that he is no longer here, because he would be able to tell you a lot of interesting things about music in general. I once considered following my father's footsteps into radio, but after taking a course in radio, I quickly determined that this is something that I am simply not cut out for, and I don't have the same artistic tallent for cutting radio commercials that my Dad always had.

After some last-minute re-arranging (the surgeon's scheduler called us Saturday evening!Shock [:O]), Joanie was able to get her partial knee replacement surgery taken care of this morning at St. Luke's Hospital.  I'm happy to report that recovery from this one is going alot better thus far than the first one.

Sure is nice of the hospital to provide this free Wi-Fi service...Thumbs Up [tup]

Afternoon all.....

Got a new laptop the other day, so now I can keep up with everything out on the road.  sitting in Jeffersonville, OH, waiting for a 5am edt appointment at walmart in Washington Court House.

Did some creative driving in WI this weekend, I39-90-94 was shut down in Portage, so sat in traffic for 2 hours on Saturday, and took the longer way around Sunday.  Last I heard the Baraboo River dropped enough Sunday Night to allow reopening the road.

See y'all later.....

Oh my:  know what I'm thinkin'?  Maybe we need to plan a "beach party" for this weekend, to welcome in the official start of summer.  What do you all think about that?  Don't know about the sand, but gee, we could get all our old records (tapes, CDs) find a turn table, for the records,  and have a blast from the past!!

I've refreshed the warmer bar with fresh from the oven pizzas, so help yourselves.  Think I'll find some more oldies but goodies, and put on the sound system!  Anyone up for doing The Twist?!?!?!  Or the Jitterbug?!?!?!

Mookie, Bobby's Girl was by Marcie Blane, not Leslie Gore. The music from that era has lasted far longer than most folks would have imagined. I guess us old codgers know what is best after all. I have around 2500 45s and around 150 LPs, but no turntable to play them on. Everybody take care
