Remember Women and Children First. What a strange land we live in Floods in the midwest and after the driest spring on record and the earliest fire season on record the fires are burning fast and furious. The winds whipped the flames at numerous fires throughout the central valley and one in Stockton yesterday destroyed thirty homes in one of the wealthier areas in the city. Worst fire in Stockton's history. Fortunately everyone got out with their lives. Three fireman were badly burned when one of the grass fires overran there engine and two are in critical condition. Winds are not expected to subside until Friday and temperatures are expected to top the century mark then. Water rationing is going to begin the earliest it ever has here in California this year.
I hope all you midwesterners survive your floods and we in the central valley survive our fires. Mother nature seems to be throwing alot at us this year. God Bless all.

Good Thursday morning. EVERYONE SOUND OFF AS YOU COME IN, SO WE KNOW WHO IS HERE, AND DIDN'T FLOAT AWAY.
Coffee, juices and tea are ready, and on the breakfast bar this morning: turkey bacon, sausage, biscuits & gravy, scrambled eggs, bagels and bear claws.
Going to go by the other places here, and see who I can find.
Here I am Paula. Currently 70 and pea soup fog in Carolina, on the way to 90 something and more thundrstorms. I will have one of everything and some grape juice, thank you. Then, time for a nap! Thanks
Tom

Another beautiful day in Iowa- another inch of rain!
Where's a tongue-in-cheek smiley when you need it?
Brian (IA) http://blhanel.rrpicturearchives.net.
Ray here, is checking in. I got out of bed about an hour ago. I've been listening to the news reports pertaining to what is happening in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and that area has really been devestated by heavy rains and flooding. I really feel sorry for these folks and wish I could do something for them. A tornado touched down in northwest Iowa at a Boy Scout camp yesterday, and as a result, four are dead and 20 were injured. Certainly not a good situation.
I reckon I should be counting my blessings. We have 61 degrees here in Sioux Falls, and we will se a high of 74 this afternoon, it looks like it is shaping up to be a very nice day here. I hope the rest of you folks out there have a good day, and stay out of harm's way!
Ray
Willy
Well....wasn't that fun! We are all fine here in Star City. I was more worried about Willy, since it was headed right his direction, but see that he is ok.
It is almost like the funnels are looking for water and not finding any, move on toward the Missouri river. But they kept talking about rain wrapped funnels and we certainly got our share of the rain. Fortunately, we have dealt with flooding problems through the years and now have a good system of getting rid of our water.
Brian - I am sending a small boat with this latest storm. You may need to net it - either in the water or in the air.
Need coffee and a flyswatter. Will leave it at that.

Good morning everyone.
It is a beautiful weather day here in the North East, a nice cool breeze, sunny and not too hoot at all, a good day to spend outside playing with my Jack Russell Terrorist.
I watched and taped a great show last night on the National Geographic channel about the Alaska Rail lines , The series is called "Tougher in Alaska", I'm thrilled I taped it, it is a must see for anyone modeling the Alaska rail Lines.
Have a great day....hummmm, is that blue berry cobbler I smell???
Glad to see that Mookie and Willy made it in, along with the others who have made it in here this morning!
I've got lunch ready (inbetween loads of laundry). On today's menu:
leftover roast beef from yesterday, now on the warmer bar as open-faced roast beef sandwiches 2/mashed taters and gravy, shellie beans, creamed corn w/your choice of biscuits or cornbread, and nice garden salads and cole slaw.
Brian, Mookie, Dan, et all, hope your areas become a little bit dryer soon. And for our forum friends who live out in California, I hope you all get some rain, to help put out those fires!
Joe, my memory is beginning to fail me I think: how "old" will Matt be Saturday? I know of at least three birthdays for this weekend. So, I'll need two or three tall men to help decorate the Cafe/Diner tomorrow night (Friday).
Blueberry Pie? I'm in!
Just noticed that the Cafe is up to 100 pages. Probably about time to "remodel" again.

Shhh, Larry!! I'm kind of happy with the way things are going, and everybody is getting used to the new name, even though we'll always think of it as The Depot Diner & Coffee Shop.
I've got more open-faced roast beef sandwiches w/mashed taters, gravy, etc., set out on the warmer bar, and Joe, your container is in the fridge for work tonight!
It's beginning to cloud up outside, guess our rain will be coming in soon. Just hope there is no bad thunder, lightning, and high winds. The garden doesn't need that much extra water, and wind.

Just thinking about our hosts. They get concerned when the thread gets too big.
The storm front is a bee line from Cedar Rapids to Delavan. We are just getting the dregs though. Two storms today-45-60 minutes each and only 2 inches of rain. We will be fine as we are on high ground.
Best to all.

Jay - Stay safe!
Does kind of put you between a rock and a hard place, though. High ground is exactly where you don't want to be during severe weather....
CW; A strange thing happened on the way to the forum ( LOL ) . A few of my driver friends e mailed me and wanted the address of the Diner . Word gets around thru the pipeline about different weather lerts that are confusing. Beaver Squeezer wanted to know more of local Diner patrons current weather . I passed this on to Dixie Belle as well. She said her will pass it around. ~~~ Good news travels fast .
Respectfully, Cannonball
Y6bs evergreen in my mind
Good Friday morning, everyone! Well, we never did get any rain around our house last night. Think it just passed right on over us, and went somewhere else. Mutt and I were sitting out on the front porch, and could smell the rain. But, nary a drop did we see.
Cannonball, thanks for the kind words. You know what I always say: "The more, the merrier" in here!! Everyone is always welcome.
Coffee is ready, hot water for tea, and I've fixed fresh oj, oj/tangerine, pineapple, and grape juice for this morning.
And on the breakfast bar this morning: cake doughnuts, glazed doughnuts, chocolate covered, cream filled doughnuts, chocolate covered creamed filled long johns, and the following danish: apple, cherry, peach, raspberry, blueberry; along with bagels and bear claws and cinnamon rolls.
Think I'll head out to the garden, and sit in one of the rocking chairs, and watch the trains go by this morning, before I start baking a large chocolate cake for our birthdays this weekend.
.....The warmup is coming fast today....Partly cloudy, and A line of dangerous storms are to form again this afternoon and make their way across our central Indiana location. My outdoor temp. readout indicated 94 yesterday afternoon.....
Rising about as fast as gas prices.....For us, a new high: $4.19 yesterday
Mrs. Tails-a-draggin' in again. It was so quiet around here last nite, I woke up in the middle of the night to see what I wasn't hearing!
Cooler weather, followed by more normal hot and humid now in the future. Looks like maybe the worst is over rainfall-wise. Now we wait for all that water to head south and make another mess.
Must dust two pieces of furniture today. Getting ready for company next weekend. Mr. & Mrs. Houston and family will be visiting for the weekend. Guess they are bringing their own pool, since Mrs. Houston said they were going to be swimming. I will lifeguard, since I never learned to swim even after many summers of lessons and trying. But I can really drowned professionally!
Wow - Friday the 13th - maybe it will be someone's lucky day?
