.....Well, we've just had another downpour in the last hour or so....Kinda sad as this small community {10,000}, of Yorktown has a big weekend that needs good weather.  "Summer Heat"...formally conducted at the Muncie airport....lots of hot air balloons, carnival, booths and in general, a big weekend for here but so far the weather has stopped the first scheduled event....a large group of hot air balloons were to rise and be active this morning after a big community breakfast, etc.....But a bit of wind prevented that balloon activity.

Now another line of storms to head this way and thru here later today....Possible hail, and all that's possible to come along with it.

{I don't mean to compare our bad weather stopping a good weekend festival here with the tragedies near by of flooding, etc....}.  Maybe the weather will improve by tomorrow.  Festival runs thru Sunday.

Wow - Friday the 13th - maybe it will be someone's lucky day?

I didn't realize what day it was until I saw your post- LOL.

No such luck around here.  One bit of good news, though- it appears that maybe the river has reached its crest at 31.1 feet, a little over a foot below their latest prediction.  Now if we could just get it to go down faster, and get the railroads up and running again...

As I sat watching the evening news in New England I was shocked to see what has been going on in the mid west and the story of the Boy Scout camp being hit by a twister broke my heart.

I send out prayers for all those who are hurting from the loss of those 4 young men and I pray that anyone in these areas stay safe and that this mess passes soon.

I'm leaving and don't have much of an appitite so I'll take a cup of coffee to go.

May God watch over these poor people.

Joe - I didn't get to see them, but the morning after the bad rainstorms, BNSF ran the wheels off their southbounds.  Didn't particularly hear any eastbounds, but only because of the noise from the SB's.  Maybe they are greenies dressed as a punkin...  Mischief [:-,]

There - back from town and shopping for some home-fix-up stuff (remodelling a bedroom into a guest room).

Pushing 90 here today, but very nice otherwise.  Threat of thunderbumpers but the radar isn't showing anything headed my way yet.

Heard CSX switching in town, but I'd been to the grocery store and didn't want the milk to suffer in the heat.

Back to work - have some plaster work to do in the upstair bathroom, too....

I wasn't supposed to work until 5:30 PM today, but at 10:30 this morning the manager called and asked me to come in because they were going to be a bit understaffed at Arby's today. So, I worked until 3:00 PM and now I get to go back from 5:30 PM to 11:00 PM. Busy day, but the green stuff keeps coming in. I'm scheduled for 35 hours next week and then the week after that we're going on vacation, so I'll get a break.

Nice day today. Tomorrow looks hot and then a small chance for thunderstorms on Sunday. Iowa looks to get the brunt of that chance, though.

Hi all!  Know I haven't been around this afternoon:  we've had some rain, not really a whole lot; but did have quite a bit of thunder & lightning.  Se Mutt and I stayed off the computer.  We're supposed to have some more rain, possibly thunderstorms, coming in about the next  two, three hours(?).  They say we might even have some high winds, too.  Sure am glad we had that humongous oak tree cut down in the back yard last year!

For tonight,  I've got our FRIDAY FISH FRY ready.  On the warmer bar:

Cod, haddock, hallibut, perch, bass, catfish, shrimp, fries, hushpuppies, and on the cold section, cole slaw, and the following pies:  apple, blueberry, cherry, peach and pecan.

You all enjoy your supper, and stay safe and sound tonight, for anyone in the path of the rains.

Yeah, just what we don't need around here.  At least next week looks dry for the whole week (knock on wood).

Evening Everyone.

Another balmy day here in South Texas. The temperature is currently 96.

We are also sitting ay 10.5 inches below normal rainfall for the year.
No rain in sight for the next week, and mandatory water restrictions may start here
as early as next week...along with an area-wide fireworks ban.

Well, just got home from letting Driver drown some plastic worms in our city lake, which is a dam and full of fish right now.  He caught 8 bass and one game warden, gun and all.  I didn't realize they have them carry sidearms...maybe it is for an occasional bear/deer/really violent fisherman?

Since it is always catch and release at our house, I will have to hunt through the fish and puppy platters and see what tastes good.  Hmmm..

Willy - boss has figured out he has a good work and will now work you non-stop!

Brian - did Dan float by yet?  Traded your tin for flippers?  Drought or flood - what ever happened to happy medium?

That's a nice feature about living near large bodies of water - even if it's dry (and it isn't) we can always launch the fireworks over the lake (Ontario) or river (St Lawrence).

......Well, the rain really put a damper on the Summer Heat Festival here in Yorktown.   It has pretty much moved beyond us now, but it stopped all the hot air balloon activity and the carnival is not "flooded" with customers and folks are just kind of walking around wondering what is next.....Believe tomorrow is to be better.  Would be nice....Quite a bit of money was {is}, spent annually to put all this together.  It {this year}, is a small town America function and would be nice if they could at least get 2 days of activity out of this long weekend schedule of the Festival.  Rain gauge only had .7" , but that was enough to cause all of above.

Drove down by it all an hour or so ago with the wife and granddaughter to get  a piece of mail in the post office and witnessed the above discribed activity....or {non} activity.

Speaking of canceled festivals, our Freedom Festival, which normally occurs during a ten-day period before Independence Day, has been rescheduled for around Labor Day.

Jen, I will be shocked if I see Dan floating around here, as there's this little stream called the Mississippi dividing us.  He is a good swimmer, though...

Happy Birthday Matt.  In your honor, I am going to have CW make up some fries with my toast this morning.  Curly fries, at that!  Side of ketchup, too, please.

Another sunny morning already - will be warmer and more humid.  Onward to summer solstice!  At least I don't have to worry about ice.  (except in my milk.)

Happy B-Day [bday], Matt, Sarah, and Mark!

The river level has dropped nearly two feet since yesterday's crest at Noon.  I'm still in the process of figuring out if anything serious changed during the night.  Looks like it's going to be at least another week, though, before the water is back within its banks.

Well - Birthday Greetings to all!  Joe - before you know it there will be a 1 in front of that 7 and he'll be asking for the car keys (and probably not for train-watching...)

Might be dodging a few showers here today, but the thunderstorms that looked like they were headed for us last night fell apart first...

Here's a 5 quart bucket of homemade ice cream to go with the birthday cake tonight. Please save a slice of the cake for me, CW.

I just got home from working at Wendy's, I put in 6 1/2 hours today, and I will be putting in another six or seven hours there tomorrow. It's warm here in Sioux Falls, 90 degrees! It was onlly supposed to get up to about 81 this afternoon. Now I've got to go and work a few hours for my other employer. "No rest for the wicked", as my Mom used to say!

Ray, thanks for the ice cream!!

Veering away from our normal Saturday night menu.  For our birthday celebrants we have:

Meat Loaf,

Mashed Taters

Shellie Beans w/onion

Spinach

Corn on the Cob

Cole Slaw

Got the birthday cake iced, and it's ready to go, after everyone is finished eating.  The ice cream Ray brought in will compliment it nicely!!

Has anyone here heard anything from Mark H. lateley?  Hope he might be able to drop in for his birthday/Father's Day dinner, and also make an appearance in here tonight.

NOTE TO EVERYONE:

I have made plenty of the birthday supper, so we'll definitely have enough for tomorrow's Sunday Dinner, for the Fathers on the forum for FATHER'S DAY TOMORROW!
