I never shut mine off - I just turn it down and put the thermostat on "hold." That way I don't get surprised by a mid-summer cold snap. And I've seen it drop into the low 40's here in August...

Yeah, we're still getting sunshine here, with enough of a breeze that it's kind of on the nippy side out. Had to go to the bank first thing this morning, so we could have some bus tickets, and got a few groceries while I was there. Right now, at noon, we have a temp of 60 degrees.
For today's lunch and supper, I've fixed pork chop abracadabra, w/mashed taters & gravy, green beans, or sweet green peas, glazed carrots, creamed corn and baked cornbread.
For dessert today, you have your choice of:
1. Chocolate cake
2. Yellow cake w/caramel icing
3. Apple cobbler
4. Blackberry cobbler
5. Peach cobbler
Think I need to go put on a sweat jacket: even here in the house, it's on the cool side. (Too cotton pickin' early to turn on the furnace.)

......Before I get back into seriously thinking of who is going into the President's office....I'd like to see some movement on this rescue package....Of course one that is acceptable to most. Sad part is, my belief is that most citizens don't really know how much trouble we're into...
So the Senate votes today on a new revised package....and hopefully the H of R before Monday...
Our skies are partly cloudy with quite a bit of sunshine this morning. Temp right now here 54 and sunshine. Crisp morning, but nice. Probably must do a mowing later today.

I'm fond of saying that the best person for the presidency is walking down the street in Lincoln, NE. I'm not thinking of Ms Mook as such, although I'm sure she'd do a great job (and would have a fantastic transportation policy!). It's more of an "Anytown, USA" thing.
Maybe I'm glad I'm not working on the railroad today - looks as if I'd have gotten quite wet.
Got enough of that this past weekend.

To do that, Grampaw, you'd probably have to shoot all of 'em. And while you're at it, you can attend to ours as well - we've got plenty of them in the UK.

Deshler Ohio-crossroads of the B&O Matt eats your fries.YUM! Clinton st viaduct undefeated against too tall trucks!!!(voted to be called the "Clinton St. can opener").
Good Wednesday morning, and first day of October! We are currently at a very pleasant 56 degrees this morning, and looking for a high of 65. Should be a very nice day today, with some cloud cover.
Coffee is on, and has finished brewing; fresh oj and oj/tangerine and grape juice are ready and in the fridge; there's hot water for tea; hot chocolate and some hot cider.
On the breakfast bar: oatmeal, toast, bear claws, bagels, turkey bacon, pork sausage patties, homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy and hash browns.
Everyone have a good morning!
So my phone rings at work about 15 minutes before quitting time. At first I don't recognize the voice, but then figure out it's one of our railroad volunteers, who wanted to know if I could work Wednesday - they're short a conductor. Unfortunately, I have vendors coming in and have to be at work.
Drat.
The warmer bar is now ready for tonight's Mexican Fiesta. Everything is freshly made, and heat hot. (Spicy hot is also available, for those of you who like your food spicy hot.
Brian, maybe whenever my knee brace comes in, I can go on really good walks, without the shooting pain through my leg and knee. That would be so nice!! Tell Joanie I'm glad she's doing so well.
Everyone have a good evening (what's left of it), and I'll see you all tomorrow.
Cw thanks for supper.brian glad you and joanie are doing better.I mowed today and loaded some wood for deshler's bonfire.Tommorow will probably go into town and help with chores there.time to get cleaned up.

Brian, glad to see you come in this morning! How are you and Joanie doing? Hope you are both well.
We're doing great, thank you. We're even starting to do an occasional walk around the neighborhood, something that Joanie hasn't been able to do in a couple of years.

Well, I'm back from Produce. Today, they brought: cabbage (regular and Chinese), carrots, cole slaw mix, shredded lettuce, avacados and corn. To be the last day of the month, we didn't have too many people: ended up with only 72 people, total, today.
Anyone ready for Tuesday Mexican Fiesta? on today's menu:
1. Burritos (beef, beef & bean, and beef enchilada style); 2. Tacos (soft and hard shells); 3. Enchiladas; 4. Chimichangas; 5. Spanish rice.
Jesse, glad to know that everything is still showing o.k., regarding the dirty needle incedent. Hope everything continues to go all right for you.
Mutt said he saw the lightning, then heard the thunder, around 3 this morning. Guess I was 'dead to the world' as the old saying goes.
Take care, everyone, and I'll see you later on this afternoon.
It is another damp day up here in the Granite State.
As I was driving home from work yesterday morning I noticed some of the most magnificant fall colors that I've ever seen being trapped in the great North East in 15 years.
I guess it has a lot to do with all the rain we received over the last few months, the colors of the trees are so vivid, oh how I love the Fall in New England, it's the winter that I hate to no end.
Well I'm doing well I guess, I got my first blood tests back after being stuck with a dirty needle on the job and everything looks good so far, I'll be tested again at the end of October and then a few more times over the next year.
I managed to get my land ready for winter and hope that we do not see another like the last one.
Just checking in too say hello and wishing everyone a great week.
Cw thanks for breakfast. I heard Botkins and Anna were shaken last night here in ohio.(shelby county).no one was hurt.We had a downpour last evening and might get some more rain today.fall temps the rest of the week.Time for a nap then going to help mamma with chores.
Darn. My Tigers lost.
I'll take consolation in a tea and a bearclaw.
....59 degrees and getting bright in the east.....Looks like low fog this morning.

I'll be watching tonight's game, hoping for my dream World Series- Twins vs. Cubs. GO TWINS!
Good Tuesday morning, everyone. Supposedly, we got some rain overnight, and aparently some thundershowers; if we got any in our neighborhood, I slept through it. Never heard any raindrops, thunder or saw any lightning.
Coffee, juices, hot water for tea, and hot chocolate are ready.
And on the breakfast/warmer bar this morning: oatmeal, toast, bagels, bear claws, turkey bacon, sausage, biscuits & gravy, hashbrowns.
You all have a good morning, and I'll see you all later.
Looks like fall isn't the only thing going to come around. The color of 1929 is in the shadows. At best I hope for NO golden parachute to open for the CEO gang. ~~~ and nuff said... Just got home20 few hrs. ago.The Albq. road is still there as well is I-40& I 25 . The shuttle took me to the motle & back to the terminal . Not much has changed at the slop chute . Good to be back in FLG. didn't see tree color , sand don't change color. Ahhh life is good. Apple pie and coffee please ma'am.

Times do seem to be getting worse for most people, and not just here in the U S of A.
I've got more roast, taters, carrots, country fried steak and all the sides out again on the warmer bar. And Joe, there's a couple of containers ready for you, in the fridge, for work tonight.
Supposedly, we may see a little bit of rain sometime after midnight. We could definitely use it. We are not only below normal rainfall for the month, but also year to date.
Afternoon

I agree with you there. Now send out the lifeboat (when Congress wakes up), presenting a very large bill to the bankers for rescuing them. Europe, you may have noticed, has the same problems.
I never followed the DJIA real closely, but obviously heard it regularly on the news even back in my HS days. Almost seems like I can remember a time when a 700 point drop would have put the index into negative numbers.
How times change.
I saw where someone (erroneously) figured out that the rescue package - if paid out to the taxpayers - would amount to 5 or six figures, with the surmise that it would be better to simply give each of us a check with which to pay off our mortgages, etc, rather than bail out the very folks who got us into this situation to begin with.
Come to find out, the real number was in the mid-three digit range....
....If the diner crowd has been loafing in that establishment all day, it's time to come out and check a bit of news....
Not a good day for our American economy, probably an understatement. Most likely, world economy...
One of the worst day's drop in numbers on the DOW.....
The rescue bill did not pass.....!
Where to now......Hope the no voters figure it out for us. Soon....!
Brian, et al who want to explore this: Go to Google News. I put in "Bat in Coffee" and it came up right away.
Suggest you not do this close to an eating time or....maybe want to try a new recipe? Just have your bat certified before....
Ugh....

Huh? I heard that story a day or so ago, but didn't catch where it originated. A search of the local news sites has nary a word on it. Neither does foxnews.com, and they're usually all over a subject like that.
