.....Earlier this morning we had 33.3 degrees.  But the sunshine is pouring down on us and the warm up is here.  Wonder if this might be the coldest morning we'll have until the season turns cold next fall....

Yard mowing later today.

And did we all note this morning:  Crude oil....$113.00 plus / bbl....!!!

Now we'll see how far away the $4 dollar stuff is.....This will have an effect on our population's vacation plans and just daily routine living soon....

I foresee dire effects on my railroad - people have to travel to get there, and Diesel is already outrageous.  It's getting to the point where the cost of staying overnight will be less than the gas to commute.  The railroad will cover part of the stay (and of my gas), but if cash isn't coming in, it's hard to pay it out...

I read yesterday and again this morning that HUGE new reserves of crude were found off of the coast of Brazil and in North Dakota as well...we're talking in the BILLIONS of barrels in each of these two fields. I can't help but wonder what this news is going to do to the future prices of a barrel of crude.

I hope they tank, and the futures traders with them.  From what I've read, the $100/bbl price was created by a trader who floated a false rumor, then bragged it up.  The price of oil has moved from simple supply and demand to another thing that can be manipulated by people not directly involved in the business.

That doesn't mean that we shouldn't be trying to conserve, and many people are, but there are folks who are simply out to get rich off the backs of the common folk, and that just ain't right.

Ever see the Eddie Murphy movie "Trading Places?"  We can wish...

Here in Louisville, gas was 3.35.9 yesterday.  Now, this morning on the news (and again at noon), it's gone to 3.55.9 per gallon.  But it didn't stop anyone from coming out to Produce Tuesday this morning.  We had 65 people this morning.  Delivery:  cabbage, celery and potatoes.

Lunch is on the warmer bar:  Today is Mexican Fiesta Day.  Hope that meets with everyone's approval.  Now, off to the Coffee Shop side, and do a little bit of very careful dusting around the layouts.

Anyone hear anything from the Mookster this morning?  And Dan, good to see you got a chance to drop by a little while ago!

All part of the challenge Larry.  Where's your sense of adventure?

Mookie I've done that.  Attach the BOBTrailer to the rear, hook up the brakes and light and off I go.  Nice for bike camping.

Quentin, todays issue of Investors Business Daily has the First of a Series titled: Breaking the Back of High Oil. It is the lead on the editorial page and does indeed talk about the Bakken oil basin in North Dakota, Montana and into Canada. It also discusses the two Braziliian discoveries.

Alternatives for oil in amounts which would produce sufficient power to supplant current needs will take many years (decades); and growth throughout the world will demand even more. Our leglislators need to become realistic and allow production from America's resources.

....Back about 1983 or 4 our government assembled a group of legislators and others {Bi-partisan}, to set down and hammer out a plan for Social Security to extend it 40 or 50 or so years out into the future....

It was done, and the plan put into effect and into law and has done a rather good job.  Now....we need to do something similar to attack the problem of what to do about energy and it's costs in this country....All aspects of it.  Nothing less.....We can't continue to be slaves to the OPEC type organizations.....It will break the back of the free world's economy if someone....especially us, don't get serious and take action.  Everything on the table...!!  And get it started sooner rather than later.  If we have oil....we need to figure how best to go and get it.

Thanks for supper CW. I needed that. With gas prices like they are, I guess it's a good time to be unable to drive.... Seriously, I don't know when I will be able to do that! Remember when we thought 80 cents a gallon was outrageous? Stay safe

78 degrees and wow - what a draft!

...You're up kinda late Jen......Today we had beautiful blue skies and until late afternoon, we had rather calm winds but then it started to give us some from the west that put the flags about straight out.....We're in a massive "H" system and that is bringing us this nice sunny and dry week.  Temps were only about 60 late this afternoon.  Tomorrow, it's to be about 70.

Today was the 2nd grass mowing.  Had shorts on, but also a sweat shirt.  But it was comfortable and pleasant.

Yeah Quentin - I am heading down the home stretch right now.  8 pm is brush the gold and head for bed.  Will peek back in about 5:30 tomorrow and see if the wind has died down.  Perfect spring otherwise.... if you don't mind parallel tulips and daffodils.....

PRAIRIE RANGE FIRE!

Ordway, CO (on former MoPac line now "operated" by V&S RailwayDisapprove [V] 45 miles east of Pueblo) is in danger of having the whole town burn to the ground. Hope tree's western counterparts can hold it off. Please send rain early to SoCO. (Tons of snow in the nountains, dry out on the prairie) The whole town of 1200+ (county seat)is evacuated...fortunately, this shortline keeps its locomotives and rollingstock in Eads instead of Ordway like its predecessor.

Good Wednesday morning, everyone!  Mudchicken, I hope the firefighters can get a handle on the prairie fire today!  Will be saying a prayer for all the firefighters and for the citizens who are in the midst of it.

Coffee and other beverages are ready to go.  On the warmer bar this morning:  sausage, turkey bacon, pancakes, scrambled eggs, homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy, and oatmeal.  (I just finsihed eating a bowl of maple/brown sugar oatmeal for my breakfast.  Figured I needed to have something in my tummy, before heading back to the doctor this morning.  My ride will probably be here to pick me up in about a half hour (or less, if they decide to pick me up early).  Hopefully, I'll be back in plenty of time to get lunch ready, but if not, I know you all can find something in the fridge, to warm up, or make sandwiches.

Mookie, has the wind died down out your way this morning?  Or are they high enough to bring you eastward?

Alas, the fire near Fort Carson (one of three ongoing in Colorado) has claimed the life of an air tanker pilot.

We usually get 'blessed' with a few ground cover fires each year, normally set by someone who didn't expect it to go the way it did.  We can hope that the fires in CO were at least accidental.

Howdy yalls. Another sunny day in Carolina, 49 degrees, and we are all bright tailed and bushy eyed. I just had KFC for breakfast in lieu of my usual buttermilk pancakes, so CW, I still need my fix. See you in a few for some flapjacks. Take care

Thanx for joe, Joe!  I needed it!

CW - it blew us up into No Dak and now it is blowing us back.  Not quite as strong, but plenty windy.

Hear Sir Chicken may get some snow in his near future.  He sends it this way and there will be big asparagus fire!

They did some controlled burns around our area on Monday - and now must be trying to blow it all away.

Lots of job security right now - need to sharpen my pencil every few minutes.  Hope it helps when they decide to RIF before the end of June.....Sigh [sigh]

Fired up the charcoal grill awhile ago, and have supper on the warmer bar (at least first round):  hot dogs, brats, steak, chicken, pork chops.  Side dishes:  grilled corn on the cob, grilled sweet peppers (green, red & yellow), grilled "baked potatoes", baked beans, potato salad & cole slaw.

Desserts:  chocolate cake, and the following cheesecakes:  cherry, chocolate, and strawberry.  Even have plenty of the following ice cream flavors:  chocolate, vanilla, Neopolitan, peach, strawberry,  Kroger's Death by Chocolate and cookies and cream.

Good Thursday morning, everyone.  Looks like we're going to have another beautiful, wam day ahead.

Coffee and other beverages are ready, and breakfast is on the warmer bar, ranging from oatmeal & toast to biscuits & gravy, to bacon and buttermilk pancakes, etc.

Since it's such a nice morning, think I'll head out to the patio, or to the sitting area in the garden.  Anyone who wants to enjoy the outside, you're welcome to join me.  Maybe we'll catch sight of a couple of trains going by!!

Taking my bowl of kibbles out to patio with CW -

Humidity kind of high here today.  In fact, if you look up, you will drown (turkey!)  Yesssss....it is really raining here.  Wonder if Sir Mud got his snow as forecast?  I will take all this rain.  Wash the last of the winter ick off the area.

Heard our nesting peregrine falcons are proud parents of 4 eggs.  They nest on our state capitol building.  I won't go up that high for fear of a nosebleed and they raise their kids up there.  Something not right about that!

Off to the sunshine and always temperate temps in the garden....
