Well, it started snowing here within the last hour, and right now it is coming down in BIG flakes. I called my chiropractor's office and rescheduled my appointment for Thursday morning. I am going to stay home and not try to go anywhere today. Although I might brave the elements and walk four blocks to my  neighborhood grocery store for a couple rolls. Today is "Cookie" Tuesday at Sunshine Foods and I sometimes buy a couple dozen cookies at 19 cents a piece, they never last me more than two or three days at the most, and I'm not supposed to have a lot of sugar anyway.

To those of you who have served this country, THANK YOU!! The other day when I was working at Wendy's there was a gentleman in our dining room who was wearing a t-shirt with the words "FREEDOM IS NOT FREE" on the back of it, and it served to remind me of the supreme sacrifices that our veterans have made for us, both the living and the dead.

I would be flying my American flag today, but I am going to have to mount a bracket for my flag pole on my front deck, and that will require a drill and a few screws.

CW, what's for lunch??

Larry, if you are a vet, I want to thank you for having served your country! The freedoms that we enjoy today would not be possible without those who have served in our Nation's armed services. Yesterday I saw a gentleman in the dining room at Wendy's where I am working and he was wearing a t-shirt with the words "FREEDOM IS NOT FREE" on the back of it, and it gave me reason to stop and think about a lot of people who have given their lives to preserve our freedoms.

I would be flying my American flag today, but I need to mount a bracket for the pole on my front deck, and that will require a drill and a few screws.

We are now getting heavy snow here in Sioux Falls, and it's coming down in BIG flakes. I have the day off today and I called my Chiropractor's office and rescheduled my appointment for Thursday morning, so I won't be going anywhere today. I might brave the elements and go to my neighborhood grocery store for a couple rolls. Today is "Cookie Tuesday" at my grocery store, and I could fill a whole bag for nineteen cents per cookie. It's not too unusual for me to buy a couple dozen cookies at a time, and they never last me more than two or three days at the most. I'm not supposed to have a lot of sugar anyway.

CW, what's for lunch this afternoon?

Good Morning and Happy Veteran's Day!!

All the best to current and former servicefolks (self included).

As I seem to be alone here on this lovely Tuesday morning I'm putting on the hot water for some cream of wheat. Lunch will be an MRE for old times sake. Really, for me it should be "C" Rations, but who's counting...

Good morning America and all your veterans, and let's not forget the Canadian's Remembrance Day. It has been slightly over 40 years now since I got out of the Navy, and if they called me back, I would report as soon as I could hobble in! I really think they would send me back home this time, tho...

Also, not many know it is also George S Patton's birthday.

Currently 51 degrees and clear in Carolina, on the way to 64 and some clouds. Everybody take care and stay warm. Ray, be especially careful on the way to the chiropractor.

Well, I thought I'd be picking up my daughter right now on our way to the Eastman House in Rochester to see their "Trains" exhibit.  Instead, I'm at work, trying to resolve a stubborn problem.

I'm a vet, a number of my relatives are/were vets, a lot of my friends are vets, and I see a lot of future vets every day.  Thanks to all for their service.

Thanks for breakfast, CW. I think I'll pour myself a cup of hot chocolate and grab a bear claw while I am here. We have 32 degrees here in Sioux Falls and we are getting a freezing rain. I've got to make the trek to the bus depot to board the #5 route which will get me to my chiropractor's office in a couple hours, and I'm not looking forward to walking on icey, slippery sidewalks. I've heard the streets here are O.K., so I'll be walking in the streets as much as possible. We could be getting as much as an inch or two of fresh snow later this afternoon. And right now snow is something I can do without.

CNW 6000

I think I hear someone in here so I'll make this brief:

Thanks to those in the Armed Services past, present, and future.  Your sacrifices are appreciated.  Got Bless you all!

Good Tuesday morning, and HAPPY VETERANS DAY to all our veterans here in the Cafe and elsewhere on the forums!  We have the rights and freedoms we sometimes take for granted because of the sacrifice of you men and women.  We salute each and every one of you, and say  THANK YOU FOR SERVING YOUR COUNTRY!!

Coffee, juices, hot chocolate, hot water for tea and hot cider (esp. for mudchicken) are ready for everyone.

On the warmer bar this morning:  turkey bacon, sausage, biscuits and sausage gravy, scrambled eggs, hash browns, along with bagels and bear claws.

We currently have 40 degrees here in Louisville, waiting for rain to come in, in just a little bit.  Hopefully, we'll get through with Tuesday Produce before the rain starts.  At least it's not supposed to be a heavy rain, just nice and gentle.

Everyone have a good morning, and see you all after Produce.

Okay, the first round of vegetable beef soup and navy bean soup w/ham are both ready, and now on the warmer bar.  There is also fresh-from-the-oven cornbread to go with the soups for today.  And, if anyone wants them, you can have your choice of the following sandwiches:  grilled cheese, PB&J, fried bologna and cheese sandwiches.

At 12:36, we have sunny skies w/a current temp of about 42, 43 degrees.  It doesn't feel too bad outside, even with the very light breeze.  Of course, I was standing in the sun, out in the back yard, and not in any shade.  Imagine that would be a little bit chilly, don't you know.

......Partly sunny here in our central Indiana location this morning.  32 plus degrees now.

We'll see cooler temps this week as compared to last....Probably in 40's and 50's for highs.  Transition time can produce much different weeks back to back.  Last week, 70's etc.....Short sleeves and shorts.

Best to all for a good week.

Planned for next year sometime in the Spring I am hoping.  Problem is though I hated the tests that I had last week man why didn't that doc just do a probe in my butt as much info as he wanted.  They want to know if I can handle the effects of the surgery if I can survive a piggybacked stroke that cost me 20% of my brain this is easy.

Brian, did you say Kringle?!?!  Are you actually related to Santa??  Is he your great-great-great Grandfather?  Big Smile  (Sorry, I just could not resist.)  Guess I'm going to be a little devil todayEvil

Laugh

Our son Chris is probably grateful that he didn't inherit that surname...

My grandfather's first name was Carroll- back in the day they owned a dairy farm up northeast of Rice Lake, Wisconsin.  He passed it on to his son Carl, who passed it on to his son (my cousin) Dale.  I think it was Dale who first gave the farmstead a name- Reindeer Acres.  A few years ago, though, he gave up on dairy farming and converted the barn into a pistol shooting range, and rented out the fields.  Both Carl and Dale now work for a Rice Lake golf course as groundskeepers.

My Mom, thanks to her heritage, has always been big into Christmas- it's not unusual for her to have  a decorated tree in every room of the house.  She also was into collecting Santa figures of all kinds, but has since scaled that back.

I personally don't care for it, but it's a popular menu item at my family's holiday gatherings (my Mom's maiden name was Kringle!).

Coffee, juices, cider, hot tea and hot chocolate are all ready this morning.  And on the warmer bar this morning:  turkey bacon, sausage patties & links (pork, as always), hash browns, scrambled eggs, homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy, bagels, bear claws, and, if you like, there's a nice selection of jellies to put on your biscuits or bagels.

Think I'll be in the kitchen, working on cutting up fresh vegetables, for a big pot of vegetable beef soup, and a pot of navy bean soup w/ham.  Is there anything else you all would like to see on today's afternoon and evening menu?

You all enjoy your breakfast, and have a good morning.

Forgot to mention - We're under a Lake Effect Snow Warning overnight.  Which means I probably won't have to worry about it here at the house, but the drive to work in the morning could be fun.

Gotta throw some clothes in the drier, and the Dal is telling me it's time to call it a night.  I don't think he's figured standard time yet...

Tom, lefse, pronounced "lefseh (short e, accent on the first syllable) is a Scandinavian dish from my Norwegian/Swedish heritage. It is made from boiled potatoes and flour which is then rolled out with a wooden rolling pin to form a sheet which is then baked in an oven. When finished it will look something like a tortia shell, but much thinner. It is kind of a dessert item (I'm not sure I spelled dessert right) and my family likes to eat it with a spread made from a mixture of butter and brown sugar, and it is rolled up or folded. If I could figure out how to mail a sample of it to you without having it spoil before it arrives at your house, I would. Leffse is something that my family always has for dinner at Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter, and it can be served any time of the year for that matter. It is much more common in this part of the country then let's say places like North or South Carolina or Kentucky. I could probably buy some in my local grocery store right now.

I am of Norwegian descent, and when you pronounce my last name, Loftesness, from the original Norse dialect, it means "land of the mountains". My father, Ray Loftesness, Sr. was a well known radio broadcaster and musicologist, having spent 55 years in radio and television. To most of his radio listeners he was simply known as "Lofty".

I personally don't care for it, but it's a popular menu item at my family's holiday gatherings (my Mom's maiden name was Kringle!).

Yikes - I go play with a helicopter and ride the train and I miss 'Mutt's birthday.  Another anniversary of 39 is in the books!  (A happy belated, Walt!)

Went to a presentation and demonstration of one of our regional air medical services.  In the process we got a "tour" of the helicopter.  We don't send patients out by air as much as some areas do, but due to our distance from trauma centers and other specialized care, it does happen.

Last night I worked another "murder mystery."  This time I think I got "whodunnit," even though I'm not there for the whole "show".

Fall cleanup today.

Is there any chance of fried shrimp and/or oysters, or oyster stew anytime?

Yes, Tom, there is a very good chance.  As a matter of fact, on today's menu you will find:

1.  leftover pork chop abracadabra

2.  mild chili w/grilled cheese sandwiches

3.  beef stew w/cornbread

4.  deep fried shrimp and oysters

5.  oyster stew w/oyster crackers (the oyster crackers are good in the chili, also!)

6.  The following pizzas:  Hawaiian, pepperoni & mushroom, cheese w/extra cheese, and supreme.

Didn't leave the house yesterday, so getting ready to make a quick trip to the grocery store.  Going to be fixing another version of the pork chop abracadabra tomorrow:  chicken abracadabra.

You all enjoy whichever of the items on today's menu you prefer, and see you all later.
