Good Wednesday morning, everyone.  I hope you all had a very good night.  We are starting out this morning with temps in the low to mid 20s.  Very chilly when I went out on the front porch for the morning paper.  But it's supposed to warm up nicely today, even though I can't remember what our high is supposed to be today.Blush

Coffee, juices, hot chocolate, hot cider and hot water for tea are ready.

You can choose from any of the following for breakfast:  bacon, eggs, sausage, oatmeal, cream of wheat, cooked rice, toast, biscuits & gravy, bagels, and bear claws.

Does anyone have any meal requests for lunch and supper?  (I'm kind of tired of the same ole menu; so, could any of you give me some suggestions, please?

You all have a good morning, and remember to take care and be safe out there.

Tree - I will look into it.  This will be our pre-Thanksgiving/post-Thanksgiving project.  The living room windows have blinds like that - but we use those windows for light only.  They won't be a problem.  But the upstairs I need for light for my, ahem, house plants - 2 in number - and to look out.  But we will figure out something.  Didn't realize they made clear caulk.  Will look for that.

Driver will be excited - he can roam Menards, Lowes, Home Depot and probably a few other places.

Yeah!!

Driver said something about trying it - we do have blinds and I do like to look out those windows, but if they are clear enough to see out of - it would be worth the effort.  Will have to look into it further.  Does it cover the casement, too?  I can feel a draft through the windows as well as around the casement.

I presume you mean the window frame.  If there's a gap between the wall and the window frame some caulk would be the answer.   I'd use clear.

The plastic is crystal clear, especially when it's shrunk.  You'll hardly know it's there.

I have mini-blinds with the rod to open and close them, and the cords to raise and lower them.  I leave them down and just open and close them.  I used some scrap cardboard and the double sided tape, figured out where the hole needed to be, reinforced the area with the cardboard and cut a hole that the adjusting rod pokes through.  It makes for a small air leak, but compared to the wind that blows through the unprotected windows, it's nothing.

Add some cord to roller blinds, with a small hole at the bottom, and you'll have them under control, too.

You'll probably make up the cost in your first month's fuel savings.

Excellent fix for those old windows - shrink wrap.  I think a five window kit runs around $10.  I love the stuff.

The kits come with double-sided tape.  Apply that to the window frame, put the clear shrink plastic on, then hit it with the hair drier.  Assuming everything stuck all the way around, the plastic gets tight like a drum to the point that you almost can't tell it's there.

If you've got blinds you'll have to either set them how you want to leave them or work in a way to adjust them (which I had to do in my bathroom).

Then, on a windy day, you can sit and watch the plastic bow in and out as it keeps the cold wind out of the house.

Come spring, you peel all the plastic and tape off and enjoy the warm air.

I keep thermo - a new programmable one - at 67 (66 at nite)

...Wow, Jen.....That compares similar to what Tom is calling his "ice house".  66 would feel just a little uncomfortable to us.  Bedroom is about 68 but the other rooms are at varying settings.  In here, {Home office}, it is probably 72 or a bit more....The carpet even feels warm when walking in with bare feet.  {Radiant heat in ceiling}.

Family room nice and warm too....Living room is seldom used....so probably a bit below 70 and so on....

And on the "chimbley"....we don't even have one.  Didn't want a fireplace when it {house}, was built...dirt and fire threat, and losing heat out it, etc....So just did without.

But that product Larry is talking about, sounds like it would really cure a problem with wind leaking around a window or even by creating a dead air space....less heat loss from cold on window....and it would feel more comfortable.....and possibly warming the seat.

Tree:  I went and got my trusty weather station out of our bedroom, which we don't heat (keep register closed or it gets too hot for sleeping.)  Anyway - I am in south bedroom with a sunny south window - which is great except on cloudy days.  My readings are 66 for temp, bar 29.9 and humidity about 66%.  But - we have, I am pretty sure - single pane windows - we face north (bedroom) and when wind blows it feels like a window is open.  Until landlord replaces windows.....we are SOL

I keep thermo - a new programmable one - at 67 (66 at nite)  If I get really busy, really, really busy - it is warm to the point of being too warm in the house.  But after dark, I am not all that active and neither is "he".  No chimbley (my Missoura heritage here) and amblance goes by here quite regularly.  (They are too expensive for us!)

i don't want to share this with everyone - but the best guage of how cold the house is, is the round seat in the bathroom) WOW

Good afternoon, everyone.  And congratulations on the new grandson, Granpa Jay!!  I imagine you'll be introducing Little Nicholas to trains as soon as you can.

We had about 67 people show up for Produce this morning.  The center director got there just before 9 and opened the gym door so we could get in out of the cold.  Today, they brought us:  celery, romaine lettuce, yellow squash and 10 lb. bags of potatoes.  The only thing left  after we were through was the yellow squash.

On the warmer bar, for the rest of the afternoon and tonight, you will find:  Tuesday Mexican Fiesta.

1.  Burritos (beef, beef & bean, beef enchilada)

2.  Tacos (soft shell and hard shell)

3.  Enchiladas

4.  Chimichangas

5.  Fajitas

There is also:  Spanish rice, tortilla chips, and picante sauce, salsa, and con queso.

Regular list of desserts:  chocolate cake, yellow cake w/caramel icing, pies and cobblers, ice cream.

May you all have a good afternoon, and stay warm!!!!

36 in the house?  No wonder you're cold!   (Unless that's Celsius...)

Really, though, even though the humidity outside is OK, heating systems tend to dry the air.  And unless you have a fairly new thermostat, it could be suspect, too.

Pick up a thermometer and hygrometer (humidity meter) for the house.  You may be surprised.  Moving the thermometer around the house might be enlightening as well.  Also, keep the thermometer at your usual activity level (ie, height) in the house.  If that's sitting down, that's where you want the thermometer.  You'd be surprised the difference in temperature between the floor and the ceiling.

And let me add "chimley" and "amblance" to your list.

Lots to deal with - Jay - Grandpa Jay!  How nice for you!  And while you are train watching, take him fishing, too!  Shy

Q - congratulations!  You used the word median - in the right context!  Do you know how many people think the raised strip down the middle of the road is not only to run over, but called a "medium"?

And men have "prostrate" trouble?  They lay on the ground a lot?

My 3rd and final one - "elemenary" school.

Fingernails vs chalkboard!

Tree - I just checked on my weather station and we have 36' and 61% humidity.  Until really cold weather, we never get rid of the humidity.  But it is still chilly in here.  Or maybe my thermostat needs adjusting.  Now I know why old women wear sweaters in the summer!  Oh great!  Another unwanted milestone!

Good cool morning to all.  Bright sunshine is blazing in my east window here now in the home office....Like that.  But the instrument indicated earlier, it was 24.1 degrees outside.  And to add insult to injury, we had a skiff of snow....{just enough to make the ground white before the sun hit it}......

All this talk about thermostats....We have 8 of them to deal with....Or maybe I should say, to help taylor the temp. in each room depending what room it is and temp desired.

Don't think we'll have any heat wave today....and probably will be on the chilly side all week even though the latter few days will be sunny.

Yes, Larry....it would be nice here too, to have some of that very high Indiana humidity found each Summer...to spread around a bit {inside}, when it is cold and dry outside in our Winters.  We've used humidifiers here at times in the past....One must hit a happy median so as not to get too much saturation and get it steaming up the windows.  Had that happen even with thermopane's and storms on the outside of them.

Once winter really sets in, my humidifier is running 24/7.  The humidity really does make a difference - keeping it up around 35% or so adds significantly to how warm you feel, as opposed to how warm you are.

It's still not t-shirts and shorts warm, but it helps.

I'll be over in the corner with my bearclaw and tea.

I set the thermostat in our house and it does get fairly cool.  But since Mr. Hot-year-round stays much warmer than I do, by the time he gets a "chill" - I am in blankets and all my winter gear waddling to the thermostat to turn it up.  Usually one degree will do wonders!

Wed will be very nice here, before going back into the fridge.  Will pass it on east, so enjoy it when it blows past!

Got ya beat, Ray- my thermometer said 18 degrees when I left home this morning, and the temp monitor on this PC from the local TV channel indicates 15 degrees now!  No snow here, though; we had some flurries yesterday, but not enough to stick.

And a good, cold Tuesday morning it is! I've been up for about an hour and right now here in Sioux Falls we have a temp of 21.3 degrees. It is supposed to warm up to about 41 later this afternoon.

CW, thanks for serving breakfast. I think I'll pour myself a cup of coffee and grab a bear claw while I am in here. I've got the day off, and I am planning on making a pot of homemade soup this afternoon, but first I must go see my chiropractor, which I don't mind doing, but these appointments cost me $32.00 a piece. There was a time in this country's history when you could barter for the services of a professional, and I would trade my chiropractors homemade bread for what they do for me......if I could.

Good Tuesday morning.  We have a current temp of 31 degrees, should drop several more when daylight comes.  High today may reach 39.  Going to be a very cold day.  Anyone to have warmer temps in their area?

Coffee, juice, hot chocolate, hot cider and hot water for tea are ready.

On the breakfast/warmer bar this morning:  bagels, bear claws, bacon, sausage, hash browns, scrambled eggs, oatmeal, toast, and, if anyone likes, have some cream of wheat also.

Sure was on the very slow side in here yesterday.  Wonder if some thought it was still the weekend, rather than a Monday morning.  Wink

You all have a good morning, and I'll see you all sometime later.

Strikes me, Tom, that you need a remote control thermostat with a password that only you know. My wife is a bit of an igloo freak on occasion.

Dennis

From an old Readers Digest, I think.

Guy calls the furnace people to get his heating/cooling system adjusted/tuned up/whatever.  The company can't figure out why the guy says he has to be there when the tech arrives.

The tech arrives and the guy tells him he'll have to show him where the thermostat is.  The tech spots a thermostat on the wall and says he's all set.  The guy tells the tech that that one is just for his wife, the real thermostat is hidden....

Now that gives me an idea.........................

Good evening, everyone.  Hope you all had a good day today.  We have been home for a couple of hours, and it was cold while we were out.  After we got our business taken care of, and came back outside this afternoon, at least the wind had died down quite a bit, even though we still need the gloves and hats on.

For supper tonight, we've got:

1.  burgers with your choice of steak fries or onion rings

2.  clam chowder

3.  beef stew w/cornbread (still have some left, if anyone's interested)

Hope you all enjoy your supper, and have a good evening.

......33 degrees and some snow flakes drifting down around us.  Overcast skies and surprisingly bright....Nothing {of any consequence}, is expected from weather today, except it will remain cold for next few days....In fact, most of this week.  Believe sunshine is promised for last half though.

Tom...You must gain some control of that thermostat.....Being too cold doesn't sound good at all...

Right now we have 30 degrees here in Sioux Falls, and it is not supposed to get above 34 this afternoon, but at least we are getting some sunlight, which I have not seen in at least a few days here.

I hope the rest of you out there are all having a dood day.

Good Monday morning, everyone.  We have a temp this morning of 41 degrees this morning.  A little cool, and our high today will be in the mid 40s.  So not much of a temperature rise today.  Supposed to be going down to the upper 20s tonight, in the morning.

Coffee, juice, hot chocolate, hot cider and hot water for tea are ready.

On the breakfast warmer bar this morning:  turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, oatmeal, toast, homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy, bagels and bear claws.

I've got some vegetable beef soup on in the Crock Pots, and will warm up some beef stew for lunch today.  Mutt and I will not be around at lunch time:  have a couple of errands to run right around that time.  But, I'm not going to leave you all in the lurch for lunch.  Just preparing it early, so you will have it when you're ready.

You all have a good morning, stay warm, and take care today.
