Mookie, you should have been at my sister's house here in Sioux Falls. There was a mountain of food on my sister's serving table and I would swear that I've eaten so much that I could go five days without eating anything else! We had 12 people gathered all around one table and still we had enough food left to feed a whole army division!! ChefDinnerDinnerDinnerDinnerChef

Thanks for supper, CW. I am so glad everyone had a nice day. I found that my problem program rode in on another program I downloaded last night. When it wouldn't open, I trashed it, but too late.... Everybody take care and thanks.

Our Thanksgiving Dinner is now ready, here in the Cafe.  On the menu:

Turkey, dressing, green beans, mashed taters, dumplings, potato salad, Larry's cranberry relish, corn, and there's plenty of homemade rolls and crescent rolls, so come on, grab a plate, and head to the warmer bar, and fill up your plates. (Provided at least two plates for everyone.

I'm not sure of our current temp:  but, I will say this:  it has been a beautiful, glorious, very warm day!  We couldn't have better weather for Thanksgiving.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING, EVERYONE!!!!!!

....Mission accomplished.  Just returned {with graddaughter}, from our round trip of 32 miles to have the Thanksgiving dinner with daughter and family.  Daughter arrived from the south and we from the northwest side of the restaurant location.....Worked out just fine.

Did so at Ryan's  and it was a busy place.  Performance was very satisfactory.....Food very acceptable.

Weather still bright and sunny and 45 degrees now.

Traffic light on the short distance we traveled on I-69.

Did not overeat.  Feel just fine....

DinnerHappy Thanksgiving to everyone in and around the country.

Bit cool this morning with a heavy frost early this morning here in Winston. Should be up to around 60 by mid afternoon. Turkey in the oven finished and ready for carving about two'ish. Should have some good green beans, mashed potatoes, squash casserole, and stewed Okra finished off with  sweet Potato Pie. Just the two of us this year with a long walk in the later part of the afternoon..

Heard from family in Florida getting together for dinner in Brandon. Younger preacher sister reveling in  afternoon of temps in the mid 70's. She is having Stepmom, one bachelor brother-in-law, my two brothers, their wives with 2 teenagers and 3 little ones not quite underfoot but active in a big back yard. Time will be spent by at least three of them with the new Lab/Plothound mix puppy (That breed that Mr. Tom and me would call a Lab/Coonhound) and a Labradoddle (my sister also has a mix the AKC registry). As for the two 14 year old girls, who knows what they will do. All in all it does sound like a lot of fun.

Back to work tomorrow and Saturday and off on Sunday and Monday,

Stay safe everyone driving and come home well fed and rested.

Good morning and Happy Thanksgiving from Carolina. 48 degrees and bright sunshine this lovely morning. I had a bit of a scare, computerwise this morning. Somehow, a program popped up from nowhere, told me I had 19,300 errors on my hard drive and then locked things up to the point that I had to shut down. Then, after reboot, it popped up again and wouldn't let me sign on until the "errors" were repaired. I know better than to believe such rubbish, but it took a while to get online and of course, the first order of business was to find and get rid of said program. Now, everything is working and I am thankful. I just wonder how the thing got past my security and firewall. Everybody take care

A perfect Thanksgiving day weather wise.....31.8 right now here with bright sunshine.  That goes a long way in making it that much more pleasant.

Our family {in this area of central Indiana}, is small....and we'll meet at a location for dinner about 15 miles from here.  Anderson.

Spoke to them {daughter's family, from Indy}, in the last hour and we're on track to make our meet.  Grandaughter then will come along back with us for a few days.

We have mentioned our thanks on here in the last day or so and now is the day for all families to enjoy their get together.  Our wish is for all those to be very enjoyable.  And of course the good food too.

Families are the center piece for this day....

Good morning, and HAPPY THANKSGIVING to my fellow diners of the Flat Wheel Cafe!!

I will be going over to my sister's house this afternoon for Thanksgiving dinner and I am planning on baking a couple loaves of my famous cinnamon bread to go with our dinner this afternoon. I will first need to run to my neighborhood grocery store and pick up a 5 pound sack of flour and a jar of yeast. This is one of those days when all of us will probably end up eating considerably more than what we need.

Right now our weather here in Sioux Falls, South Dakota is not too bad. At the moment we have 32 degrees and no wind. It is supposed to warm up to about 38 degrees here later this aftenoon.

For those of you who are traveling on this holiday, be careful on the highways, we don't want to lose any of our regulars of this forum!

Happy Thanksgiving to All!

Thanksgiving greetings to all.  The pies are baked and sides are preped, but still much work for dinner late this afternoon.  Smaller group than usual, but with one new-born and one due in a week, traveling for some is out for this Thanksgiving.  We all have much to be thankful for.

Good Thursday morning, everyone!  HAPPY  THANKSGIVING TO EVERYONE on this beautiful morning.

Coffee, juice and cinnamon rolls, bagels and bear claws are ready this morning.

It looks like several have already started what they are thankful for, not only in here, but on the Happy Thanksgiving thread I started yesterday.  Here is what I'm thankful for:  First and foremost, I'm thankful for my family, my country, our troops, past & present, who risk their lives so people can be free to state their opinions, and share their feelings and concerns, without some government telling them they are wrong to express their opinions;

Second, I'm thankful for the Trains.com staff who let us have this site, so we can all talk about the trains we love (be it steam or diesels), the knowledge of the ones who work in the railroad industry, enlightening us all.

And last but certainly not least, I'm thankful for all the good people I have "met"        on here, and the friendships thereof.

Everyone have a very HAPPY THANKSGIVING, take care, be safe and happy.

Happy Thanksgiving from the Northwest!

I am thankful to be alive and well, and and safe at home.

I am thankful for TRAINS magazine, with its editorial content that I always agree with, and for its FORUM and you all who are such sticklers for correct information.

And I am thankful that, just ten miles from here, is one of the most beautiful stretches of coastal rail in the world; and maybe next year an extra daily train will allow ferry connections so I can ride on one of the most beautiful rail lines in the world and tell you if in fact Chuckanut is prettier than Devon, England; Santa Barbara; or Rhode Island.  Thank you, Senator Patty Murray!

Sarah and I worked in the kitchen this afternoon, and early evening; preparing the bird and a couple of other side dishes for tomorrow.  Turkey will probably go into the oven around 9 a.m. here at home.

Happy Pre Thanksgiving to all.

Driver took me to new 007 movie.  We had the entire theater to ourselves.  Just like the VCR and home - but the seats were more comfy.  Just lacked a fridge to raid.

Off to talk turkey....

Hope everyone traveling today has safety in mind and completes their journey successfully and without trouble.

Best wishes for family get together visits for all.....along with good Thanksgiving food.

We do have a lot to be thankful for and we are, and let's hope and pray for better times overall with our local to world economies this time next year, and perhaps more peace in the world.

Amen to that!

.....Sometimes I wonder just what is going on with this new forum format....Just now, I tried to enter as I usually do each morning, but today a little late and  it put me through all the beginnings once again....Requesting my email and pass word, etc.....Also the  oldest to newest listing was changed from where I had it set.....Bergie....What's this all about.

Anyway....The sky is beautifully blue with bright sunshine and 39.2 degrees.  To be nice tomorrow too...50 degrees.  That helps on a holiday to make it that much better.

See Tree is headed down thru my home state....if he is staying in the eastern sector he should be in good shape with road travel...weather wise.

Niece from Philadelphia indicates no snow in that area and moderate temps.

Made a Dr's visit late this morning and have 3 prescriptions to pick up....So hope they help.  Itchy spots, etc...

Hope everyone traveling today has safety in mind and completes their journey successfully and without trouble.

Best wishes for family get together visits for all.....along with good Thanksgiving food.

I do not know what is wrong with some people.  There is nothing wrong, in my opinon, of children dressing up in costumes depicting the Indians and Pilgrims for Thanksgiving.  I mean, after all, aren't they "reinacting our country's beginnings, and the two different cultures of the people who were already living here, and the new people, who came here to begin a new life.  Those people (the ones against the kids dressing up in costumes) need to get a life.

Got back from the doctor, just over an hour and a half after I was picked up at 8:30 this morning.  The new doctor said everything is fine, and I don't have to go back for another 6 months.  No shortness of breath, no swelling in my legs, and no hurting when I walk.  So, guess I'm doing "as well as can be expected!"

Soup and beef stew and freshly made cornbread are on the warmer bar, and ready to be dished up and eaten!!  So, everyone, helps yourselves, and enjoy.

In California police were called.
http://www.latimes.com/news/education/la-me-claremont26-2008nov26,0,1648912.story

For four decades, children at Condit and Mountain View elementary schools have taken annual turns dressing up and visiting each other to share a Thanksgiving feast. Controversy erupted after district officials last week decided to eliminate the Native American and pilgrim costumes from this year's event after some parents complained that they were demeaning and stereotypical. Other parents were infuriated by the district's modifications of the event, saying that administrators had bowed to political correctness.

And to quote a person from SD.
You know, sometimes I wonder.

Good Wednesday morning, everyone.  Looks like another very slow night around here.  Guess we must have quite a few people who have already left, or are preparing to leave for their holiday weekend.

Coffee and juices are ready, as well as hot chocolate, hot water for tea, and hot apple cider.

On the warmer bar this morning:  bacon, sausage, eggs, hash browns, homemade buttermilk biscuits & sausage gravy, fresh pineapple, bagels and bear claws.

Larry, have a very safe trip down to son, d-i-l and little Evy.  Imagine you'll have some pictures to share after you get back.

I've gotten two Crock Pots started for lunch:  one with vegetable beef soup, and the other with beef stew.  Will be starting to get ready in in about a half hour, to prepare to go to the doctor this morning.  With my luck, my ride will be here before 8 a.m.

To everyone who will be traveling today to visit family for the holiday, please take care, have a safe trip, and:

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO EVERYONE!!!!

Took some time off work to prepare for tomorrow's road trip.  Three states in eight hours! (A significant portion of which will be spent in PA, and that's going north to south, not E-W.)

The reward is a visit with the baby (and her parents).

More work to do.

Hi everybody.  Sorry about getting in here so late today.  It was a very busy day at Produce.  I was over there all morning long.  And this afternoon, been busy starting cooking for Thursday.

Joe, thank you for taking care of things this morning.  And thank you for the ham and beans in the Crock Pot:  it smells very, very good.  (And the cornbread smells pretty good, too!!)

Roy, sounds like you've just about gotten everything taken care of for the winter around your place.  Way to go!

Tomorrow morning, I go back to the cardio-vascular doctor (a new one this time; apparently, my other doctor is no longer there).  I hate seeing brand new doctors.  I find one I like, and all of a sudden, 'poof:  they're gone!'  Appointment is for 9:30 a.m., so I will be picked up somewhere between 8 and 9 in the morning.

You all have a very good evening, and everyone take care.

Hello from the NC Piedmont,

Here in Winston-Salem it is a beautiful late fall morning.

Rained yesterday and last night, makes the place look like it had a bath. Cool however with temps in the high 40's. Taking a few days off from work first part of the week, caught up on some sleep, got to get some chores done and made a good Lentil stew. Yard got raked for the almost last time and fixin to go get some early Christmas shopping done.

I am now back from going and getting my flu shot.  Mutt didn't go, because he's got a cold (with the works:  runny nose, coughing & sneezing).  Said he'd go get this one day next week.  Usually, we don't have to sign in, when just going for the flu shot:  this year, they're making you sign in for it.  Had to wait about an hour, before I got back to get it.   Did get to see part of a train on my walk over to the doctor's office.  I saw some auto racks, and a few covered hoppers.  Have no idea what they had in between, or what was on the head end.

Larry, thanks for your cranberry relish recipe.  That is on the list for Thursday.

For lunch and supper, I've fixed a beef & noodle casserole w/peas & carrots in it, and some tater tots.  There is also:  crescent rolls and plenty of butter to go on them, and some creamed corn.

For dessert today, there is strawberry cheese cake, yellow cake w/chocolate icing, and there's still some peach cobbler left.

It was raining when I left to go to the doctor, but had quit when I came back home.  Looks like it could start up again very soon.    Everyone have a good afternoon, stay dry if possible, and take care.
