.....My opinion, V-6 engine configurations for moderate sized vehicles works fine. Have a 3.0L in auto and 4.3L in Xtreme....Plenty of power.

Hey, Speeder! Great to "see" you!
The V6 in my extended cab GMC Sierra acquits itself very well, thank you.
Dover, huh. I was there in 1970... They were still flying C141's and (you may have to look these up) C133's...

Never had a V6 before. Seems pretty peppy.

Well, it's time for a meal, and thought I'd let you know what's on the menu for today: Chinese is on today's menu:
1. Sweet & sour shrimp
2. Pepper steak
3. Boneless spare ribs
4. Seafood Combo: lobster, shrimp, scallops & crab meat w/vegetables & sauce
5. Wonton soup
6. Egg drop soup
7. Beef fried rice w/veggies
Hope you all enjoy the menu for today. And everyone have a good afternoon.
....53.8 degrees here in central Indiana and overcast and at times, the sun tries to peek out.
Flat screen for monitors sounds great....Especially the nice sized ones. Have looked at flat monitors and they really are nice. But I simply can't throw a perfectly good CRT flat screen away yet. I will go that route at the appropiate time though.
MookieTree - are you getting your polar set up done before the snow and bitterly cold weather up there?
Polar trips start in two weeks (Thanksgiving weekend). More than anything else we'll get any bugs identified so the mechanical department can work on them and know what remains to acquire to decorate, etc.
We've already had snow and cold (although it's 49 here today). Rain is a possibility Saturday morning (oh, goodie!) Two years ago we had hardly any snow for any of the runs, last year we nearly cancelled the last night due to the weather. Still, the show must go on! People travel substantial distances to ride the Polar Express.
Mornin everbody.... 59 and cloudy in Carolina headed toward 70 and rain. Mookie, it's a learning experience that never ends. The hardware is another source of amazement. Before you get it broken in good, it will be obsolete! There is a front going through here. I can feel it in my shoulder and back. I should sell my services to the nearest weather buro so they can cut back on the science funding.....
Everybody stay warm and safe. C ya

Tree/Brian - had two flats at former job. But we were working on a database and doing mostly data entry, so after being on one for many years (actually used the 10.5 I am getting rid of ) the two were heaven. You could put one screen for referral to your left and work on the right screen.
Home use wouldn't be too practical, but working on data - limited toggle zone!
Tree - are you getting your polar set up done before the snow and bitterly cold weather up there? Houston Ed was just saying that he is getting mold in his boots from all the rain down there. Told him at least he didn't have to shovel it.
Have figured out the Vista is a lot of glitz and glamour. Seems to be made more for the younger set. Kind of like going through the old 5 and 10 and seeing counters piled high with lots of fluff. But what I really need is a "word" type place. Need to have something that I can record train information and then print it off on my new printer that isn't hooked up yet.
Do they make software that I can load on for a "word" type place? Does anyone even understand what I am asking?
If we get through that, I will have another question that I am desperate to have answered.
Back to hunting.

One nice thing about flat screen monitors is that they have a much smaller footprint.
I'll have my usual bearclaw & tea.
Gonna play "Houston Ed" Saturday morning. We've got to assemble our "Polar Express" train and the cars aren't even close to being in the right order. Can't just kick 'em, though. Gotta put 'em together nice....
Of course, then we have to hook up the HEP and sound and make sure it's all right, and clean and decorate the train. Hope that last plea for help one of our conductors sent out is productive.
And be ready for the volunteer dinner at 1215, a half hour away....
Good Thursday morning, everyone. Mookie: welcome back!! You were definitely missed! Here's your coffee mug, and it's already filled for you, too!! I'm not sure I would want a flat screen monitor that large. Would probably have to completely move the computer to a new location, and not exactly sure where that would be!!
Along with the coffee, hot water for tea, the juices, hot cider and hot chocolate are all ready for everyone.
On the breakfast warmer bar this morning: bacon, eggs, bagels, bear claws, country fried ham w/red eye gravy, grits, biscuits & gravy, cereal and cantaloupe chunks.
You all have a good morning, and take care.
tree68 I love my big flat screen. The one at work is even wider! I haven't loaded the software to use the whole thing, though. Then there are the people who have two screens hooked to their computers!

I could've been one of those people a couple of months ago, but didn't make enough noise. Now, with the turn in the economy, the company has told everyone to not even bother asking. The engineers who have two swear by it, though- makes it easy to compare documents or do other multi-tasking stuff.

MookieTree? Want to give me some words of encouragement?
I was just wondering what had become of you.
Find a neighborhood kid - they'll have you set up in no time... Of course, you'll have stuff you have no idea what to do with, too.
Patience and Google are your friends. That and a list of all the places you want to be able to get to. My "Favorites" run to around three pages worth. The top ten or so get most of the business, but I hit a lot of the others on a regular basis.
My current computer at work is getting tired. I dread having to move, though, since I have a lot of "stuff" to move over from the old one. And then hope I didn't miss anything, since once I'm done with it, everything on the hard drive will be deleted.
Keep your anti-pest program(s) up to date. Doesn't take long for one of those viruses to cause you significant pain.
Welcome back Mook. Ain't flat wide screen grand? Good to see you online again
PL - jury still out on this one. Got a Dell PC. I think the puter is pretty nice. But I am losing some of the things I had on my old one. There is a lot to explore on here. Will have to leave a trail of bread crumbs to make sure I get back home.
Mookie Had to get used to new format and now a new puter! I think we are connected. But the flat screen is so big, I feel like I should sit in the balcony. Went from 10.5 wide to 21.5 wide. Everything yells at me now! I will have to spend 3-4 days just trying to find my way around and setting up all my old haunts. I hate this kind of change. Don't have my resident puter guru to hold my hand while I get used to it. Tree? Want to give me some words of encouragement? Off to do some more hunting. Mookie

How do you like your new computer Mookie? It took me about a week to get used to this one. After I did I wondered how I ever got along with the old one..
PL
.....Wow, did without our computer now for a bit over 2 days. Sure makes a difference around here without it.
Comcast had to replace the Cable Modem. Also it was recommended to us to change both incoming cable lines {upgrade to RG-6 wire}, for our TV's, which I told them to go ahead and install the new. Seems the older {in}, cable wire can input trash signals into our Hi Speed Cable line so now we have that possibility eliminated.
As I bring up various threads here though...I still see a flash of {error on page}, down on the status line, as I go from thread to thread.....??
Larry those Deeres are usually given to ns to take eastbound. We have other chores on saturday Larry.Going to go help mamma with some other chores before matt comes home from school.

Hot Beef Sandwiches! I'm In!
Just stopped by the Rochelle webcam. After a westbound UP coal empty rolled by an eastbound UP manifest behind four units came into view. Nothing to get excited about, until the first of many flats loaded with John Deere tractors and other machines rolled in behind some tank cars. That's not something I see very often, so it made an interesting watch for a minute or two.
Work detail Saturday morning in Utica to prepare the cars for Polar Express. All help welcome!
Friday night I'm taking in a slide show about the Adirondack Division put on by the Utica-Rome NRHS chapter, of which I'm a member. Should be interesting to see the line in years past.
I've not had an open-face roast beef sandwich in a long time! That looks mighty good to me, CW.
I just got home from Vision Care Associates. I had my eye exam and my eye doctor told me that my prescription for glasses will change just a little bit. I am going to wait a while until I have money to work with before I order a new pair of glasses. The eye exam itself cost me $98.00 and that kind of hurt, but still I like to know that my eyes are reasonably healthy. I have an Aunt on my Mom's side of the family who is slowly losing her eyesight to Macular Degeneration. I might try having new lenses crafted for my old frames.
Ray
Joe and Ray, you're welcome regarding breakfast this morning.
Ray, hope your eye appointment goes well. That's something that Mutt and I need to be thinking about. We're both overdue for eye exams.
On the lunch and supper menu for today:
1. Tuna and cheddar cheese melt casserole
2. Open-face roast beef sandwiches w/mashed potatoes and beef gravy
Both will be served with garden salad, peas and carrots and baked dinner rolls.
Right now, our rain has stopped; due to come back sometime later this afternoon. Say it could be heavy at times. Guess we'll see what we get.
Thinking about taking a short walk after a little bit. Maybe I can get a glimpse of a train or two while I'm out.
Good morning-
We have 34 degrees here in Sioux Falls and some fog, which is now beginning to lift. And it's not supposed to get much warmer than this here today.
CW, thanks for serving breakfast this morning! I think I'll grab a few pancakes and a bear claw while I am in here.
I will be headed for my optometrist's office in a couple hours for an eye-xam which is probably overdue. I might be getting new glasses, but will try to put that on the back burner until I have the money to pay for them.
Our local HO scale railroad club, The Sioux Valley Model Engineers Society will be hosting an open house and a swap meet this coming weekend, and I have requested Saturday off from my main employer for this event. I am hoping we will have a good turnout.
I hope the rest of you out there all have a good day!
good morning
cool start this morning.could get some rain this afternoon.NS still has a crane and mow cars in our siding at work. There is still one southern boxcar at the very end of our siding.Maybe it was holding some parts for the MOW crews??
Good Wednesday morning, everyone. I hope you all had a very good night last night. Looks like we had a very slow night in here. Had to get everything cleaned up, before I could start coffee. Now, I'm working on breakfast.
Just got the coffee, and hot water started for tea, heating the milk for hot chocolate, and making fresh juice for today.
Along with bagels and bear claws, here's what else you'll find on the breakfast/warmer bar this morning: turkey bacon, sausage, pancakes with your choice of the following 'toppings': maple syrup, blueberry syrup, blueberries, strawberries, or an assortment of fresh fruit.
Does anyone have any special requests for lunch and supper today? If you do, let me know, and I'll try to get it fixed for you.
Went into town and cleaned up the rest of the leaves and the gutters in the old neighborhood.CSX was busy but they had a couple short trains. The y101 worked omni then they had 82 Sulphur tank cars to be stored on the maw. When I left the maw was putting them across FC for storage.Cw thanks for supper.
jeaton What the heck? I thought tubs were prohibited from driving on public roads. Greetings to all. Back from my trip on the California Zephyr. During the stop at the Denver, I went down the ramp to say hello to Chris. First meeting IRL, but unfortunately didn't have much time for a chat. Before joining me on the train, my wife had spent a very pleasant couple of days with her aunt and uncle in Denver. We put a return trip to the Mile High on the list, at which time I am sure that I will ask Chris to work as a guide to the best hot spots up the Moffett Route. With a brilliant sky, the ride up the Front Range was just spectacular and the next day also provided excellent conditions for the run over Donner Pass. If there is just one trip to be taken on Amtrak, it has to be the CZ. The west bound schedule puts the train in some of the best scenery in the US during day light hours-even during the short days of winter. By the way, among the persons of note found in Sacramento was one Mark Hemphill. He is well, and if the time spent on the Blackberry is any indication, quite busy with his employment duties. Returning home, found that my "hold out" tree has shed the last of it's leaves. With a little luck, I will get in the last run of the mower before serious snow. Speaking of snow, anybody have a link to a web site offering advice on how humans can hibernate for 3-4 months? Jay

I've warmed up the vegetable beef soup, bean soup w/ham, and made some cornbread. You'll also find some burritos and tacos included with the soups on the warmer bar.
For the time being, our light rain has ended. Unless the forecast has changed, we may see a little bit heavier rain late tonight, and tomorrow.
Jay, so glad to see you come in! Sounds like you really enjoyed your trip on the CZ!!
