If you remember the adage...."If you build it...they will come", well we had a Hummer

feeder out several years ago...and they didn't..(show up) seems they don't like this part

of the city. Most of the other people in this area that feed the birds have said

about the same thing...they just don't seem to like this area.

....Walt, if you are interested, put a feeder out and you very well may get several feeding at it in no time....

I had never seen any here right at our place but friends in our same addition did have feeders out for quite a few years and had them annually.  It didn't take them long to find the feeder I have.  I'll send you a pic of one feeding.

Hello everyone!  I have been on the go since this morning.  After I got through with Produce, one of the ladies from Produce, took me with her to a couple of places.   Then, I had other errands to get out of the way.  But I now have supper ready for tonight for you all:  kind of a Chinese night:  plenty of fried rice, with your choice of the following meat:  beef, chicken, and pork, with peas and carrot pieces, etc., with won ton soup, egg rolls, sweet & sour pork, etc.

Not sure what our current temp is, but it sure did warm up nicely.  Not too cool, and not too warm, either.  Very comfortable outside.    You all have a good evening, and I'll try to pop back in later (if I don't collapse and fall asleep, that is).

In the many years that we've lived where we are now, I don't think we've ever seen a

Humming Bird in this particular area.....now Robins, Cardinals, Doves, etc. we see, and

have plenty of.....even a few Orioles at times, but believe most of them went back

to Baltimore. Wink [;)]

....That sounds encouraging Cannonball.....I thought we'd see them back by now.  Have had the feeder out now for over 3 weeks.  I didn't know just when they were expected back here in central Indiana.  Did note on a Humming bird web site...a person had emailed in, he had Hummer's in on May 9th at Anderson, previous years {as you know is near by}, and I'm just comparing from that as to when we might see them.

Surely, we're getting close now.  Have changed the solution in the feeder 3 times now since putting it out for season beginning.

I'm wondering if we'll see any of the same birds.  If so, I can ID one of them with a little abnormality to one wing.

Edit:  Dan, the Ft. Knox area has somewhat advantage on us in being almost 150 miles farther south.

....Right now....45.1 degrees and sunshine.  .02" of rain overnight.  Did not hear it.  Warmer starting tomorrow.  If it dries today, must energize the John Deere and it and I must do another mowing.

Still waiting for our Humming birds to arrive....Should be any day now.

In the last 7 days we've had:
-70 degree+ heat
-2 tornado warnings (1 funnel cloud sighting)
-snow w/minor accumulation
-temps in the low 20s

Welcome to Wisconsin.  Don't like the weather-wait 5 minutes.

So there I am Sunday, sweating in the jacket I don't want to take off because of the black flies, and today it's 38?  Glad I enjoyed summer while it was here!

Supposed to be cool the rest of the week, and snow was mentioned in my email weather forecast this morning.  It's supposed to say above freezing, though, so I doubt any of it will stick.

Might make a nice counterpoint to my tulips, which are now starting to bloom nicely...

Bearclaw and tea.  I'll be in the corner.

Morning CW.  Checkin' in for the day.  I hope the warmer is stocked as I'm hungry.  Might have time to chat a bit so I'll lurk while wolfing down some fruhstuck.

Good Tuesday morning.  Nice and cool here at 42 degrees F.  We did manage to get some rain around 4:30 or so, and continued off and on until about 7 p.m.  And by that time, it was mostly a very light drizzle.

Coffee is on, fresh juice made, water hot for tea,  and on the warmer bar this morning:  all the usual breakfast menu items, including bagels and bear claws.

I don't know if any of you remember, but we have an anniversary coming up here next Monday.  Anyone remember when JHH first opened the Diner?  Who was suggested to be Head Waitress?  (I think I'm remembering correctly!)

Hello CW and others who gather for food and chatter.

I just returned from a trip to CO and will eat whatever is on the warming bar as it has been restaurant food for a week.

I drove I-40 from Williams, AZ to Albuquerque, east last Sunday and west today, and I want you to know the TRANSCON is very, very busy. Had my scanner and listened to the chatter and was impressed with the fluidity of this 350 mile double track -CTC- operation. Last evening near Grants, NM Amtrak No. 3, the SWC, was in the middle of four hotshots and the DS weaved it in and out from track to track with each of the hotshots stopped only for five minutes, plus or minus and No.3 was on time. Also saw several manifest trains on 4-20. I am guessing, because I did not count, that I saw 25-30 trains on 4-20 and maybe 25 today, and they were loooong.

Also, I saw the BNSF Boise City Sub in CO and it was busy. About 30 trains per day, all southbound as the Boise City is now a one way, dark, railroad. Mostly coal but several manifests in the four days I was nearby.

Now, where is that 'home cookin'?

What?  It's afternoon already?  After yesterday's foray into the woods I might have lost track of a little time today.

As I was poking around Onekio (you probably won't find it on a map), I was struck by the absolute quiet - I was far enough from the river that I couldn't hear it, and there was no wind.  Aside from the tracks, I was about a mile and a half from the nearest signs of civilization. Really cool.

Almost hated to leave, but if I slept there overnight, the blackflies would have eaten me alive in the morning...

Guess no one was interested in breakfast this morning, huh?  Maybe you'll like lunch and supper a little bit better:  beef stew w/cornbread, or maybe you'd rather have a nice hot bowl of vegetable beef soup w/grilled cheese sandwiches.

Also guess that everyone must have worn themselves out over the weekend.  Haven't even heard from Mookie and Tree this morning.

Good Monday morning, all.  Hope everyone had a nice weekend.  After the work in the yard yesterday, I managed to sleep until 7:05 this morning.

Coffee, tea and juices are ready.  Breakfast on the breakfast bar:  turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, toast and oatmeal, bagels and bear claws.

Everyone have a good morning, and I'll see ya later.

I hear you.  Spent the day chasing a railroad book author around, looking for old sidings, which often includes climbing through the brush that's grown up in the 80 years since the siding was abandoned.  Not to mention walking along the tracks (currently out of service, but still as safely as possible) to get to the old sidings, which just makes thing that much more difficult.

We were successful is figuring out answers to several questions, finding the sidings, and even the foundation for a sawmill superintendents house.

After we finished with him and had a bite to eat, I detoured slightly on my way home and walked a mile and a half up the tracks to get my own information about the stuff they had searched out on Saturday.  At least the return trip was all downgrade (approaching 1%).

I'm beat...

Hope everyone has enjoyed the country fried steak, sides and desserts.

Mutt, Sarah and I have been out in the yard all afternoon; we did trimming in the front yard, and a little bit of trimming in the back yard.  Sarah was working on an area in the back yard, where she's going to plant some flowers and herbs; and worked in our old raised tomato bed, to get it ready to plant some vegetables there.  Believe there will be some maters planted there.

Guess that's about it for our 'news' for the day; except we're all three very tired and sore people.

Mookie, if my memory serves me correctly, this cold spell is what many of the old time farmers would call "Blackberry Winter", when all the different kinds of berries are beginning to bloom.

I am going to take the chicken fried steak and wrap my hands in it - I can't seem to warm up!

The sun is shining and it looks to be a great day, but temp isn't too warm.  Just can't seem to shake the cold weather for more than a day.  Daughter in Bemidji had 12 inches of snow, so I won't complain!

Think somone brushed my fur the wrong way.  An out-of-sorts day.  Looking forward to Monday!  (probably the only one in the USA)

Good afternoon, folks!  Bob, thank you for taking care of breakfast this morning!  For some reason, I was locked out this morning (that is getting kind of old, too).  Kept getting a message that the connection failed, or the Trains server was not responding.  So I went back to bed.

Randy, good to see you back!!  Glad to hear you're doing o.k.  Yeah, decided to change the name, had a  "contest" to pick the new name, and Flat Wheel had the most 'votes'.

For our Sunday Dinner today:

Country fried steak w/steak fries, homemade buttermilk biscuits w/gravy, green beans, or brussels sprouts, creamed corn, and your choice of garden salad or cole slaw.

Desserts today:  chocolate cake, white cake w/white icing,  yellow cake w/caramel icing, and the following cobblers:  apple, blackberry, cherry, peach.

Have a good afternoon, everyone.

Morning all......

Thats what I get for not stopping in here in a while, they change the name and the place on me.  Oh well.

Been rolling pretty good lately, got in yesterday afternoon after dropping off at Alsip, IL, and taking a detour after a semi took a ramp too fast and rolled over onto 294, blocking all lanes for about a half hour.  Them container drivers think they're driving Indy cars....

Will try to stop in a bit more this weekend, see y'all later.....
