Frog legs are too greasy tasting for me, so I'll leave them alone. Now, if Chuck Norris brings me some already cooked rattlesnake, I might try it. Otherwise, no way, Josea!!
I have the pizzas just about ready for our Saturday Night Pizza Fest. On tonight's menu:
1. Anchovie2. Cheese3. Chicago style4. Goetta5. Hawaiian6. Pepperoni/mushroom7. Pepperoni/sausage/onion, extra cheese8. Supreme9. Calzones
For dessert tonight: coconut cream pie, chocolate meringue pie, and cherry pie ala mode
Enjoy your pizzas and desserts, and have a great evening!
Now Cherokee Woman, if I can show you a way to cook them frog legs with no grease, would you try um?
Snapping turtle stew!!!
My Dad and I would finish a business day in Philly (I was about fourteen) with dinner and then drive back to Reading and home.
There were the two seafood places with the slightly altered family (they always distinguished themselves from the other) names that I can't remember, McShea's with a pub-like leather bench seat drinking crowd, and then there was Shoyer's (4th and Arch maybe?). It depended on which part of town we finished or where the station wagon/truck was parked.
Shoyer's had walls made invisible for all the paintings and photographs hung on them and they served as my introduction to "haute cuisine" . NOT Terre Haute you Hoosiers! Jean Shepard might have said that already. If he did, here's to him.
Anyway, Dad wanted me to try the SNAPPING TURTLE STEW which he was ordering. It arrived with two shot glasses of sherry. It was the best meal I'd had in my life to that date, put me to blissful sleep, and spared Dad from my homeward railroad related chattering.
rixflix aka Captain Video. Blessed be Jean Shepherd and all His works!!! Hooray for 1939, the all time movie year!!! I took that ride on the Reading but my Baby caught the Katy and left me a mule to ride.
Chicago style and Chocolate Cream pie with real meringue. I'll have an ice tea with the pizza but will bring in some milk to have -later- with the pie. Don't want the pie too soon after the pizza. spoils them both if you rush it.
Jack
2 large pizzas please.matt and I have had a great day of trainwatching.

That sounds interesting, I wouldn't mind trying them that way.
Now have you perfected a way to keep them from jumping out of the skillet?!
Turtle and Rattlesnake are very good, if no one told you what it was before hand,
you'd probably think you were eating some kind of poultry.
Being Crazy, keeps you from going "INSANE" !! "The light at the end of the tunnel, has been turned off due to budget cuts" NOT AFRAID A Vet., and PROUD OF IT!!
Good late evening everyone. Thanks for the calzone!
Weather is getting warmer and we're getting temperatures into the 60's now. In fact, the trees are starting to bloom, too.
Here you go: You need a weber or some other sort of tall bbq grill. You grill them the same way you would a turkey. Weber sells a divice that puts the coals on the side of the grill. In the middle there is a place for a drip pan. Start your coals before you put in the divice. Once well lit, place about 12 coals on each side of the divice (it has a name but I don't know what it is). The legs cook on the top grill. The person I learned this method of grilling frog legs used a home made stand he welded together from thin pieces of steel. A little thought and a suitible copy can be constructed. The trick is to stand the legs meat side up, towards the top of the grill lid.
About every 1/2 hour, add 6 coals to each side. Continue for about 3 and 1/2 half to four hours. Watch your heat. Too hot and you burn the meat. Done when the meat is a uniform medium grey color. Baste any way you like. Garlic, thyme, salt, fresh ground pepper and a dash of Great American Land and Cattle seasoning is hard to beat. "Ron" is from louisiana, so he knows something about frog legs. I introduced him to Great American seasoning, so he uses it now on every cagin (sp) dish he cooks.
Oh, since weather is always on our minds, here is a small taste of what we are experiencing up here where I live. Snow fall totals this season in our area as of 8:00 pm Saturday (3/1/08): 144.5 inches with 14 inches expected through Sunday. I could use one of those extra large snow blowers.
Good Sunday morning, everyone! Had a heck of a time getting in here this morning. When I finally got in the main door, the cafe door was stuck, and had to really work to get it open!
Doghouse, you come and grill some frog legs, and I'll try one or two. Better yet, how about frying some rabbit? (Wild rabbit, not tame, pet rabbits.)
Coffee, hot cider, hot tea and freshly made oj/oj-tangerine/apple and grape juices are ready, and have milk ready to heat for hot chocolate.
On the warmer bar: turkey bacon, sausages, homemade buttermilk biscuits, sausage gravy, tater tots and scrambled eggs.
And, if you inhale, you will smell what's going in the Crock Pots: Chicken and Pork Chop Abracadabera (sp?) Decided to brown chicken and then put it in the Crock Pot like I do the pork chops. So in two Crock Pots, there's Chicken and in the other two, Pork Chops.
You all have a great morning, and see you later.

Bet the "Scotties" were happy to be inside!!!! (Beware when they try to "shake" themselves dry!!)
There's Plenty of Hot Cider & Cocoa around, 'specially for you!
Don't forget that there's an abundance of "Gator Ade" on the premises! (heated!!)
Think our temp is up to around 69, 70 right now, with plenty of very nice sunshine! And yeah, Joe, our forecast for tomorrow is rain coming in sometime towards afternoon, on into overnight and Tuesday morning. You're right, Joe: yuck! Our temps will be dropping, so who knows, it may be freezing rain here sometime Tuesday.
The chicken and pork chops are ready, and the following veggies are on the warmer bar: lima beans, broccoli w/cheese sauce, green beans, corn, potatoes, and in the cooler, you'll find garden salads made.
Got plenty of the pies left from last night: I don't think anybody touched even one of the pies.
Joe and Lance, have containers made for you two for work tonight: little bit of everything, including some pizza left from last night.

Heck, the older of my dogs will go out and roll in the snow - so I "have" to towel her off - which she loves.
Not a bad weekend. Started out with a little snow, but temps were relatively mild and the sun was mostly out. The end (of winter) is near!
Latest word on the grandbaby is that she's taking her time making her appearance. I think they'll probably try to get her to make her grand entrance this week.
Mmmmmm. Supper...

Paula, you mean I took that large piece of Chocolate cream and Mutt didn't notice. The lad must be a fruit pie guy.
Tonight I shall have the coconut cream, again with milk. Love my pies with milk.
Brian (IA) http://blhanel.rrpicturearchives.net.
Brian, I hope you are right handed. Did you open your windows and let some fresh air inside?
cherokee woman wrote: Got plenty of the pies left from last night: I don't think anybody touched even one of the pies.
I know one apple pie that won't go to waste!
nanaimo73 wrote:Brian, I hope you are right handed. Did you open your windows and let some fresh air inside?
The answer is no to both...
We currently have our son and his wife living in our basement- opening the windows would have froze them out, I think.

Uncle Pete was out to get me, too. I took a drive up Coal Creek Canyon after I saw a westbound manifest at Blue Mountain Rd. headed up the Moffat Line. After a quick chat with Julie, I figured the CZ would be headed up the mountain, too, so I decided to head up 72. I got up to Cliff and set up the camera. After waiting for 2 hours, I decided to call no joy and head back down the mountain. Both the Zephyr and the manifest must've beat me up to Cliff, though that didn't seem likely. Whatever the case, I think I must've looked like the Scotties and it was awhile before I warmed up again!

Joe, wonder how the Circus Animals would feel if they did pick those people up?
Although, it might benefit CSX, they could use that "Hot Air" to do those welds
instead of wasting other energy!!
Weather Guessers have revised our forecast, instead of tomorrow, we're supposed to
get some of that stuff starting late this afternoon. As you said; "Batten down the Hatches!"
CW will probably be in a bit, seems the last several days when she trys to open the
door here at the Cafe she can't get in. (early) (Forum maintainance?)
Good Monday morning! Looks like the door finally opend for me to get in here! Chris, glad to see you back. Hope you'll be able to drop in more often. Joe, thanks for fixing breakfast, and everything this morning. For the last few days, seems like I have trouble getting in this place in the mornings.
Getting ready to go for my regular doctor appointment (scheduled for 10:30 EST), so I've put the Crock Pots on with the leftovers from yesterday evening. It'll probably be at least 11:30, before I even called to the back, so no telling what time I'll get home.
Dale, there's always at least four apple pies around, so there should always be some available for you all. If you don't see one in the pie cooler, just check the freezer, and set one out on the counter to thaw. That goes for anyone else, who see any of the desserts are missing from the pie cooler!
You all have a good morning, and I'll see you sometime this afternoon!
....Transition month is sure evident here today. Snow is totally melted and it's warm and windy. The weather front is approaching and making it windy. Understand we'll see rain, plenty of it later today. They are saying up to 3" of the stuff.
Flooding is also normal for Indiana and it's being talked about re: this approaching system. Right here, at our location, that's not too much concern. Sure wind always is, as this is a place that can cause trouble. And transition month can produce anything.
And to think I'll be mowing the yard yet this month.....!! That is, if all happens normal weather wise.
Quentin
Where's the resident Feline? Is she still being "Seminarized?!?!
Q, that front must be coming through here now also, had to be out earlier, and after
going out, wished that I had put a few extra rocks in my pockets to weigh me down due to the wind.
We're supposed to get that rain, and they are talking about the possibility of flooding here.
(don't think we'll have any problem here, unless it gets to/over 1937 levels)
Lets Not talk about cutting grass.....yet......!
Jim, (eolafan) hope you Don't have anymore problems with that, and that you will
continue to be well.
Well, I finally made it home from doctor's office. Had the usual blood works and lab; don't have to see him again until June. Been home about 45 minutes, and looks like I made it home just in time. Wind is blowing even more, and it's gotten very cloudy out. Current temp is 68.5 degrees F.
The chicken and pork chops are on the warmer bar, along with the various veggies (mashed taters, green beans, broccoli w/cheese sauce, corn and hominy for those who like hominy.
Brian and all others in the midwest, hope the weather improves for you. Just two more weeks until the official start of spring.
