We won't see Ike unless what's left of him loops up through Mookie territory, across Carl's neck of the woods and on to us.

That doesn't mean we don't get the danged things - several have caused substantial damage up this way - mostly from the rain.

Picnic for work is tomorrow.  Looks like it should be nice, but we can get inside if we have to.

Time for a couple of chores and then bed.

Good Tuesday morning, everyone.  Well, we were awakened at 3 a.m., with thunder and lightning, then we heard the rain start.  It all seems to be just about out of the area now, and our high today is to be in the upper 70s, right about 77 degrees.  What is going to be so nice!

Coffee, juice(s), and hot water for tea are ready; and on the breakfast warmer bar this morning:  oatmeal (raisins & spice), toast, eggs, turkey bacon, sausage, biscuits & sausage gravy.

So you all have a good morning, and I'll see you all whenever I get through with the Produce crowd.

I'll grab some OJ, eggs, and bacon...thanks!  11 days to the wedding and counting.  Time sure is flying!  A brisk 42 this morning, enough of a reminder that fall is on the way.  Off to work, or the closest thing I can manage that resembles it!

.....60 cloudy degrees this morning....Streets are dry from overnight.  We had some thunder roll thru here around midnight but think not much became of it here.  They said we'd see some rain, if we did, it was very little.  Haven't walked outside yet for the paper and check our rain gauge.  Still need more, that's for sure.  Yard has recovered a little.

Oops....See some blue sky breaking thru over in our eastern sky.  Looks like clouds might break up and we might be having sunshine....

Edit:  Did get .04" if rain sometime during the overnight....

Wet, wet, wet.  Certainly won't get any kudos for my forecast for today.

Looks like the heavy stuff is staying south of us, though.

It's a good morning for a bearclaw and some tea.

Good morning. Not feeling all that great this morning. At present, 81 and sunny, but as usual, a chance of lightning later. This really gets old and I will be proud to see cooler weather set in to stay. Quack visit went fairly well, but I am scheduled for a series of home nurse visits again on account of a wound that has not healed. Here we go again..... I think I will go back to bed and sleep it off. Take care

Well speaking of bear claws,I have 3 black bears laying on the grass in my front yard as I speak.

Where I live winter is on the way, cold today and raining down here in the lower part and

a few hundred feet higher the mountains tops have  a new coat of snow on the top.

I can count the warm days we had this year on my fingers.

Joe, forgot to ask Dad if you could go with him?  That way, you wouldn't have had to try to get into his suitcase.Wink [;)]

Our Tuesday Mexican Fiesta is now on the warmer bar:

1.  Burritos (beef & bean, bean, beef, beef enchilada style)

2.  Tacos (soft shell & crispy shell)

3.  Chimichangas

5.  Enchiladas

6.  Fajitas

And, of course, we have the usual tortilla chips w/salsa, picante sauce, and cheese con queso.

Desserts:  chocolate cake, hot apple pie, hot apple cobbler, peach cobbler,  blueberry pie, and hot-out-of-the-oven brownies.

BTW, our high today stayed around 66 to maybe 68 degrees after that cold front came through this morning.  And tonight/in the morning, the low is supposed to be in the mid 50s.  Going to be a nice night to curl up under the blanket/comforter.

Dennis, here in the United States a "bearclaw" is a pastry item made in a lot of our bakeries, it is generally a sweet roll and would be about the size of a bear's paw.

Dennis, a bear claw is a sweet breakfast food that is almond-flavored, yeast-raised pastry, shaped in a large, irregular semicircle w/slices around the outside, resembling the shape of a bear's claw.  Hence, the name bear claw.  They're really very good!!

It would certainly be in the realm of the possible.

From a well known bakery products company:

One place I used to go would put a little melted butter on my bearclaw and throw it on the grill for a moment or two....

Good Wednesday morning, everyone!  Well, we haven't quite made it to the mid 50s yet, this morning, but our current temp is 59, but they say it'll drop a few more degrees until the sun rises.  Who knows?  Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Larry, your picture of a bear claw is making me very, very hungry this morning!

Coffee, oj/oj-tangerine, pineapple and apple juice are all ready to pour this morning, along with hot water for tea, and hot about some hot chocolate this morning?

On the breakfast/warmer bar this morning:  bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, hot oatmeal w/toast, homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy, muffins, bagels and bear claws.

Does anyone have any requests for lunch and supper?  If so, please let me know between 9 and 10 a.m., edt, so I can start to prepare it.

....53 degrees and clear skies this morning.  Looks like a very nice day.

Bear claws.....Guess I haven't heard of goodies with that name applied.  {That is a good pic Larry}.  Suppose different regions apply different names to such stuff.

But, we have a such a home town place here that has their own fresh goodies each day....Concannon's....That's where one goes to purchase such stuff.  Yesterday we did stop there and purchased some donuts..{glazed}, and of course as always, great.  Had a picnic type lunch with us and stopped at our former depot, now Trail Head and parked and had lunch....and finished off with the glazed donuts.

Had quite a bit of activity on the scanner but no trains passed in front of us...but they were whistling all over Muncie at other routes, but not where we were.  Can't out guess them.  Did have to wait for one on the Frankfort line {NS}, as we were coming into town.

Big motorcycle race down at Indy 500 track this weekend so that will bring in 100,000 plus people....{not our interest at all}.  Know of 2 or 3 couples riding up from Florida to be here {with their wives}, on motorcycles....Better them than us.

Good morning everybody. 74 degrees and cloudy in paradise (?) this morning, on the way to 84 and of course, more thunderstorms this afternoon and night. We had a snelliguster come through last night, with the wife out in it. There was sharp lightning and very heavy rain, with flooded streets and low visibility. According to the weather boffins, we had 1.71 inches between 930 and midnight, but that was at the airport where they keep the rain gauge under a trashcan.....  I am keeping an eye on Ike. Another evacuation is in progress in Texas. Everybody take care

Tom - now I know.  I always wondered why we had gully washers here at our house and the airport reported "officially" a trace.  Now I know - under a trash can would be very believeable!

Pork roast and sauerkraut for supper tonite - Driver's favorite dish.  Neighbor will faint from the smell of the ***.  But it is so good, otherwise!

Family is growing - if you are missing your sparrows or turtledoves, they are in our backyard at the buffet.  Also, 2 rabbits that eat peanuts as well as birdy seed, 9-11 squirrels and one black squirrel that we see every so often.

Squirrels come to door and knock and rabbits now starting to sit next to you waiting for their peanut.  We keep our distance since always fear wildlife with teeth, so the minute the back door opens, peanuts go flying and everyone chases them like trained puppies.  Bluejays almost catch them in the air.

Hey, we are cheap dates!  Kisses [:X]

We have a lot of squirrels and rabbits in our yard, but they aren't very sociable. I guess it's because our girls take out after them when they are outside. It's not unusual to see one of them staring up a tree trying to get a squirrel to come down or maybe fall down. I got cussed out by a squirrel a while back. I saw one sneaking past the carport and watched him disappear behind a walled area. I walked out and peeked around the corner just as he peeked around to check me out. Our heads were about a foot apart. He laid a cussing on me and hit the road. It was hilarious.... Incidentally, according to a local newspaper, carolina rabbits are not rabbits at all. Technically they are HARES. It has to do with the shape of the tail.... Stick with me and you will learn something.

Here's the menu for this afternoon and evening:

1.  pork roast w/saurkraut, mashed taters corn on the cob and homemade biscuits and cornbread (whichever you'd like to have)

2.  pinto beans w/fried taters, cornbread, corn on the cob, beets (cooked or you can have pickled beets).

Desserts:

1.  Chocolate cake w/chocolate ice cream

2.  strawberry pie w/vanilla ice cream

3.  peach cobbler w/peach ice cream

Or, you can have whichever dessert you want, and mix & match the ice creams, if you want.

Forgot what our temp finally got down to this morning, but at 2:05, the temp is 77.5; not bad for this time of the afternoon!

Tom and Mookie:  I don't know exactly where the guage is at our airport, where the NWS is located, but I'd make a guess that they probably have it under the control tower, in the shade, where it doesn't get anything in it, unless the wind is blowing the rain sideways.Wink [;)]Evil [}:)]

Mudchicken, how are the dogs with opossums?
