Somewhere in my collection of LPs is one with several "Lone Ranger" episodes. One finds oneself almost automatically closing one's eye, conjuring up an image of the characters in a room, or out on the trail, or whatever. It's just too easy with TV.

Johnny the bellboy worked at a hotel in Miami when Phillip Morris got a phone call. Johnny was sent to get him and entoned "CALL FOR PHILLIP MORRIS" Morris liked what he heard and hired him on the spot! Red Skelton was originally sponsored by Avalon Cigarettes. Remember them? Fred Allen sponsored by Linnett Bath, then Sal Hepatica and Ipana toothpowder and toothpaste, and finally by Ford. Remember Allen's Alley with Senator Claghorn, Mrs Nussbaum and the rest? Portland Hoffa, Vera Vague. Did you know that the reason Eddie Cantor danced around so much was that when he did vaudeville, they threw so much stuff at him that he had to keep moving to avoid being hit.....
Fibber McGee was sponsored by Johnson's Wax and Jack Benny by Jello
Stay around me kids and ye will learn something!
.....A wonderful list Tom....Don't forget Arthur Godfrey with his microphone out in the ?? and one could hear birds chirping. And he sometimes talked about his DC-3 he loved so much....
We had "Just Plain Bill" in the afternoon that seems to stay in memory to me as it was turned on over at my best friends home as we would be playing outside, etc......
Oh, there are so many from that radio era.....WCKY Cincinnati with lots of country music.....Wasn't called that then.
Edit: The TV signal to our little town was impeded by the near by terrain. Out farther east, which was more distant from Pgh., they were higher in elevation and the Laurel Mt. was actually visable from there....the Pgh. TV signal produced a TV pic. almost crystal clear {by standards of those black and white days}, at a taven out in that area.
Don't forget our famous {near my home}, in Pennsylvania....KDKA station....one of the first commercial stations {in the country}, and later then they {Pittsburgh}, got an early TV station, WDTV....Channel 3....The Dumont Television Network....! Believe that was about 1947 or 48....We {at my home purchased our first TV in 1948}, brand: Air King, and we had to pull the signal from Pgh. over 70 miles and from across Laurel Hill mountain....54' tower with double stacked all channel {Channel Master}, antenna with 300' of 300ohm line that was located between the tower and our home. Snowy, but we in fact did get a pic......Now, in thinking back, I don't know how...
Lux Radio Theater on Mondays IIRC and Friday Night Fights.

I remember some of the programs you all have mentioned: from seeing them on TV while I was growing up (and no comments from the peanut gallery that I haven't 'grown up' yet, either, since I'm only 4 ft 6 in tall!).
Lunch and supper menu today:
Chinese: chow mein, chop suey, moo goo gai pan, seafood combo, pepper steak, boneless spare ribs, mixed vegetable platter, roast pork fried rice, fresh shrimp fried rice, beef fried rice, chicken fried rice, wonton soup, lo mein, egg foo young
You all have a great afternoon, keep cool (or warm, if it's very cool where you're at) and take care!

Well Mookie your speaking my language here. I am a 1st degree black belt in TKD. I also have taken Muay Thi, Kempo Karate, and am currently a White Belt in Ju jitisu. The style of Jujitisu I pratice is Gracie. The gracie family is very well know throuhout the world for their perfection of the Brizilian style of Ju jitisu. I also am a big fan of MMA. I actually have been asked by a couple of people on the railroad to show them Ju jitisu as well as Muay Thi, they offered me money so I said yes.
Well in other news...things are warming up here in Louisville!! It has been very hot and muggy the past couple of days. I wish it will cool down a bit. CSX is supposed to be having their annual Family Day picnic this Saturday, for the Louisville Division. Well got to go to work soon...
***Note to self: don't make Sarah mad!***
I'll grab some gatorade and pretzels and a corner booth. I feel the urge to lurk before going to work.
Dan
Cw thanks for supper.off to the game.going to need plenty of water as muggy as it is.Then off to work.will give results in the morning.

Yeah, Dan, don't know about making Sarah mad: but the couplers on the cars do make her a little bit aggravated at times. Then she has to 'smack them around'
I've got the warmer bar refreshed for tonight's Chinese Night.
We got a pretty decent rain shower around 4 this afternoon. At least now, we won't have to go outside and water the flowers and tomato plants. But, I do need to go out and pick some tomatoes: got a few regular size tomatoes to pick, along with a whole bunch of cherry tomatoes.
Good Friday morning, everyone. Hope you all are at least semi-awake this morning.
Coffee, juices, lemonade, iced teas are ready, as well as hot water for tea.
On the breakfast bar this morning: danishes, doughnuts, several different flavors of muffins, bagels and bear claws.
Hope you all have a great day, even though it's supposed to be a very hot one (at least around our area), as they are looking for a high here of anywhere between 97 and 99 today. I'm not looking forward to those temps.
.....Yes, I was rather surprised here this moring as I looked at the temp read out....It's now 75 already, so that means plus 20 or so today and that will be hot. Getting dry here. Just light clouding this morning but bright in the eastrn sky as the sun is working it's way up.
Edit: Did anyone catch the program on TV last night regarding the Alaska RR....I caught just a segment of about 20 min. or so and it seemed to be rather interesting...Good video too. Showed a tunnel used by both vehicle traffic and trains....The portion I saw was hauling coal and the presenter was riding along in the engine, etc....lots of interesting scenes. Wish I would have caught it all. I don't recall what network or cable channel it was on....I was surprised to find such a program and stayed glued to the program and didn't really take notice....
morning
a triple h day here in nw ohio for today and tommorow. Also we have had some sprinkles around.hopefuly the football players tonight keep hydrated and stretched out.Defiance nipped Napoleon 21-20.(the cats missed a pat). They even had to delay the game in the 3rd qtr. because the sprinklers came on.Time for a nap.
It's been a busy morning around here (at home in Louisville): went outside around 9:45, and picked tomatoes until the sweat started rolling down into my eyes. Decided it was time to call it quits in the garden until later this evening, when the sun is beginning to go down. And before I did that, I baked a batch of brownies to take to CSX's Family Day tomorrow.

Afternoon all.....
If anyone happens to be travelling along I-20 between Dallas and Atlanta, could you stop and find my kidneys and fillings? Think the rough road shook them out somewhere, I know I didn't lose them at the Shreveport casinos, cause I didn't go inside....
Speaking of those old-time radio shows, if anyone has a Sirius satellite radio, channel 118 broadcasts all those classic shows. Sad to say, I haven't had time to jump over there, I usually try to follow the news on the trucking channel (someone whack the guy who introduced legislation to re-implement the 55mph limit upside the head for me, PLEASE???)
In a holding pattern for loads right now, apparently Owens-Brockway in Atlanta doesen't have anything loaded yet, or the dispatcher is trying to find something to make up for early in the week (did not care for the load I had out of Dallas, apparently the guys over at Quaker Oats thought 45,000lbs of Gatorade loaded all the way to the back doors would scale out without having the trailer axles behind the trailer.....).
Fish fry sounds great, will munch on it at the counter while waiting for a dispatch.......

Fish sounds good. Will hook some for my lunch.....
Opened my door to a stranger this morning - Man in Brown! Got my foam padding for my pile of rocks we call a bed. Ah - must go try it out.
Mookie wrote: Randy - Hotlanta got rain yet?
Nope, no rain here, but the wind has been blowing pretty good since last night when I got in. The Lockridge Report yesterday had someone on from NOAA, and he said something to the effect that the weathermen have given up forecasting on where Fay will go, because it keeps changing direction and speed. Forecast for Atlanta has a chance of rain in it from now till middle of next week.
Willy, anything to add?

Mooks will now be pre-occupied wif figgerin' out how all that foam got in that small a box and how on earth does one get the zippered cover over da foam.?????

It is now 5:49 p.m. EDT, and the warmer bar has been replenished for tonight. Everything listed above on the lunch menu is still in effect for tonight.
You all have enjoy your supper, have a great evening and take care!
MC that sounds great.Talked with carl this afternoon. There was an ns autorack train with a up leader.probably waiting to go down the wabash in Butler indiana.Willams county got some rain this afternoon but here at home we had a drop.another triple h day tommorow with a chance of storms.
Went out to watch a train and watched a strawberry sundae instead. Good trade off since there weren't too many trains out.
Now going to tackle that plastic bag Mudchicken was worried about. If not back by Sunday - just figure I got the zipper stuck!
....You're up a little late Jen.....{our time}.
The saga continues: I am trying to stay up late, since I can only tolerate the bed of rocks about 6 hours. So I choose my 6 hours wisely - 8:30 to 2:30 and do what? or 11-midnite and there is usually something moving here on the forum by 5-6 am.
Now have 2 foam pads on bed. This will involve Randy and CW/Mutt - the foam pad comes from Loolville and it is now too high for me to get into bed. So reverting back to my old travel days with a x-country trucker - throw your hands as far across the middle of the bed and have Driver push from behind. Get into trucks and high beds the same way.
Will take a little time, since I am sure right after the Driver sees me flinging myself across the bed, he will hit his head while rolling on the floor laughing and ....well, you get the picture.
Gonna be a long nite!

I really can't argue with you since everything you said was right on the money. Fay certainly has been a challenge to forecast for, in terms of both track and intensity. The rain in Atlanta will not be due to a direct interaction with Fay, but rather due to an indirect interaction in the form of rainbands on the far north side of the tropical storm. Since Fay is in no hurry to get anywhere, those rains should continue for a good while.
To add to the chaos, there is a new disturbance (94L) in the Atlantic Ocean. This could be our next threat to the United States in about 7 days.
In other news, school started on Tuesday. In the middle of September, I'll be going on a class trip to Washington DC with my AP American History class. Later this semester, I'll be going to San Francisco with Academic Decathlon. It seems that I do more travelling during the school year than over the summer.
Willy
Well even this late that Friday fish fry sounds heavely! I think I'll take some! If it is anything that I love the most in terms of food it's seafood. I could live off of it!
Well it was another hott one here in Louisville today! I had to spend a majority of the day out in the hot sun kicking cars in the North end of the yard, soaking up both the UV rays and the Kreasote (sp). hehehehe Oh believe me I took heat breaks but, sitting on a hot MP15T w/o AC didn't help all that much.
