Sorry, mudchicken, haven't seen Chris around here lately.  Don't recall seeing him anywhere else on the forum, either:  but, I could have missed him.

Here's tonight's PIZZA MENU:

1.  Goetta

2.  Pepperoni/mushroom

3.  Hawaiian

4.  Supreme

5.  Calzones

The first round of pizzas are fresh out of the oven, sliced and on the warmer bar.

And mudchicken, some peach ice cream, peach cobbler and peach pie would be mighty tasty, wouldn't it?  If I were closer to you and boss hen, I'd help you with the peach pies and cobblers.  Wink [;)]  Good  to hear that you're getting some much needed rain!!

Hi Quinton:

You mentioned a 175' structure with steps inside. It could be one of two places that I know of with that kind of view. One is the St. Augustine Lighthouse at St. Augustine FL. On a clear day you can literally see for 60 to 70 miles in any way you look from the top. The old equipment is still there along with the barracks and commandants house. A true rendition of 19th century construction and social reflection of the times (1880 - 1920 or so).

The other is inland in Central Florida at Clermont, known as Citrus Tower. The steps are not used much being that an elevator is used mostly. I knew it best back in the late 60's when I was finishing growing up in that area. It was a sight like no other with orange and grapefruit trees as far as the eye could see, along with a few very large lakes. It is not as good a view now according to my brother who was the Presbyterian Preacher there until about a year ago.

Your height statement does sound like the description of one of or either of those two places

Roy

P.S. I would say the Bach singing tower in Lake Wales but last I remember, one does not go up in that structure. - Roy

That does have a sugar sprinkled on the top of the crust doesn't it? GREAT with Ice Cream on top.

.....Roy:

I am familiar with the Citrus Tower near Clermont  but have not ever stopped to go up in it...

Have not been to the St. Ausustine unit....but have been to St. Augustine many years ago.

The one I'm relating to is down about 10 miles south of Daytona...Right on the coast.  On route A1A.  It is the Ponce De Leon Inlet Lighthouse.  Location is called Ponce Inlet.  It is built of brick and is the tallest Lighthouse in Florida.  it is located amongst the Ponce Lighthouse Museum complex.  One building has nothing but  lighthouse special glass prism lenses....It is an interesting place to visit if one has that interest.  The view is spectactular from up on top....The light works too.  Call it up on search and see photos, etc....

Thanks for the info Quentin:

My wife in particular is a fan of lighthouses so I think next time we are down seeing family We will have to check out the Ponce Light.

Being in NC as you might guess we have seen a couple of the outer banks units, Hatteras and Ocracoke being the better known ones.

Have a great Sunday

....Am I remembering correctly of the Cape Hatteras unit....The fact it was moved back from the eroding shore line....That must have been something to see happen.  Don't think I've seen any of those.  Been down through the area {a bit inland}, many times but those we've not been too.

.....A 60 degree morning...and it's bright over behind the neighbor's trees which means we'll have some sunshine today.  No rain predicted until just a possibility at the end of the week.  We'll be getting dry around here if that is the way it occurs.

Good Sunday morning, everyone!  This is CW.  Did not notice that Mutt was signed in.  Guess I'm not as awake as I thought.  Very pleasant 64 degrees here this morning.  For the past few nights, I've definitely had to get under the covers to warm up.  Not too many times you can say that in August (unless you have super duper excellent air conditioning).

Joe, thanks for fixing breakfast this morning:  everything looks so good, I'm trying to decide between the bacon and the sausage, to have with my waffle and eggs.

Piouslion, you are correct:  cobblers have sugar sprinkled over the pie dough that you turn over the fruit.  And you put several pats of butter over the peach filling, before you fold over the leftover dough.

Afternoon/evening all....

Mookie, yep I do get around, according to my Qualcomm, I have logged 2280 miles since Wednesday, not too bad for me.  Kind of in a dead spot now, my current load doesn't deliver untill 5am Wednesday, hoping I can just drop it in Fort Worth, we shall see what happens....

Mudchicken, I have seen him online in a friends forum, will shake the trees and see if I can get him to check in here, I do know he got back recently from a trip to Alaska, he took some great shots.  Come to think of it, haven't heard much from Brian (IA) either......

Ribs sound great for dinner, will have a plateful, and back in later....

On the railroad today, but didn't make it home tonight.  After a brief stop to pick up a couple of things on the way home, the truck won't start.  There's a dealer of the proper persuasion right across from the motel I'm camped in for the night, so I'll see if they can deal with it in the AM.  If not, I'll have to figure out my next step.

Time for bed.

Good Monday morning, everyone.  Larry, hope you manage to get the truck fixed, so you can get on home.

Coffee, juices are ready to go, got the water hot for tea, and there's ice cold Gatorade also this morning.

On the warmer/breakfast bar:  turkey bacon, pork sausage, biscuits & gravy, scrambled eggs, oatmeal, toast, sliced peaches, cantaloupe, watermelon, bagels and bear claws.

Mookie, if you come in, how about we meet out in the garden, and take in the beautiful weather.  I'll bring your coffee mug out for you, and whatever you want for breakfast.  (We girls have to stick together, you knowSmile,Wink, & Grin [swg])

Good morning, it's Monday. Yechhhh. Oh well, happens every week about this time. CW, thanks for breakfast. Larry, hopefully you get the problem located and get home soon. I'm sure your puppy will welcome you back. BTW, what railroad do you work with? Currently 67 degrees on an August morning in Carolina, with high 80s and thunder forecast. It looks like we will get some rain when Fay passes to the west of us Friday. Both western SC and Georgia can well use the rain, and plenty of it. Everybody take care.

Morning all.....

Well, I is stuck under this load until it drops on Wednesday morning, at least I'll get my 34-hour restart out of it, just have to run the wheels off the rest of the week to make up for the loss.  Such is the life of a truck driver.....

Will take breakfast and a seat out on the porch/patio for the morning, taking it easy for the next day or so.......

Sounds like a plan.  Service department has the truck, but can't get the part until noon.  Have to check out of motel by 11.  Hopefully ticking keys on laptop won't be an issue.

Today's noon and supper menu:

1.  Leftover country style short ribs w/carrots, potatoes & onion w/mashed taters and gravy

2.  BLTs w/fries and your choice of cole slaw or fresh garden salad

3.  Your choice of burgers or cheeseburgers w/fries or you can have baked potato; cole slaw or fresh garden salad

Mookie, really enjoyed sitting outside w/you this morning.  Now, if only I could get rid of this darn sinus headache, I'd really be doing all right!!

Hi Everybody!

I've kind of been in lurk mode lately. I've been busy at work since getting back from Alaska. After work I've been trying to get 20-40 miles of biking in, too. With the time remaining, I've been trying to work on my Alaska shots. I came home with over 1500 images. Of those, I plan to post about 300 on my site, and I'm about a third of the way through that process. I haven't gotten to the White Pass & Yukon or Alaska Railroad shots (when I do, I'll be sure to devote a dedicated post to it) yet, but here's a quick glimpse at some of the fun stuff I've posted so far:

All kinds of transportation options around Vancouver!

Two of the other cruise ships, the MS Serenade of the Seas and the MS Statendam, that set sail about the same time we did (I was on the MS Sapphire Princess).

A glimpse of part of the Inside Passage in BC.

Yours truly in his nice duds for one of the formal nights aboard the ship.

Any fans of Discovery Channel's show, Deadliest Catch? That's the Rollo, that appeared in a couple of the earlier seasons. I also ran into the Aleutian Ballad, which you'll recall was the ship that got hit by the rogue wave. That wasn't quite as exciting, though. She's a tour boat running out of Ketchikan now.

Kind of an archetypal view of Alaska's Inside Passage

I didn't have any excursions planned in Ketchikan, so I just wandered around the town. I found a trail heading into the rainforest east of town, so I had to take that!

Some BIG leaves in the Alaskan rainforest.

A breaching humpback whale in Snow Pass. Not the best photo, but it was taken totally on instinct as he kind of surprised us when he did this!

A pod of orcas not too far from Juneau.

A fun, misty shot taken as we were getting into Juneau.

A shot of Juneau taken from Mt. Roberts. That's the USS Juneau docked in Juneau. How cool is that?!

Finally (for now at least) the fluke of a diving Humpback taken near Juneau. It was taken while I was out chasing whales in something just a bit bigger than a Zodiac. I've never been afraid of using manual focus lenses, but I'm wishing I had had an Autofocus long lens on this occasion! It's tough to focus on a subject that appears for a few seconds at a time while bouncing around on some fairly choppy water in a small boat! My keeper rate was way, way down!

Sorry about all the pictures for those of you with dial up. I just had a blast and it's hard to show just a couple Alaska shots!
