I've got the next batch of beef stew and cornbread on the warmer bar for you for tonight.  Hope you all enjoy your supper and your evening.

Dan, how big a bowl of beef stew would you like?

Wonder where the Mookster is:  haven't seen her around today.  And, was she even in here yesterday?  If so, I must have missed her somehow.

Evening all.....

Not a good evening here, had a scare coming up I-81 near the Mason-Dixon line, my 18-wheeler turned into a 17-wheeler, due to a wheel breaking.  I don't think it hit anyone, but I also don't exactly know where I lost it.  Not a good feeling when one turns a corner and finds himself short one wheel.....

Well, off to bed, have to run to Newburg, NY, tomorrow, then for points unknown......

Good Tuesday morning, everyone.  Nice and pleasant here this morning.  I can see and hear the school busses out to make their stops to pick up the kids for the first day of school.  Did hear some sirens out our front door this morning:  then heard on the local news, of an injury accident just around the corner from our house, on the next street west of our house.  I just hope (1) that it wasn't anyone we knew, and (2) that the injuries were minor.  Guess I might hear something about it, when I go two door up from us at Produce this morning.

Randy, hope everything is o.k. with you and your truck this morning!  And, please, take care out there on the open road!!

Coffee, juices and hot water for tea are ready.  On the warmer bar:  all the usual breakfast items, including the bagels and bear claws.

You all have a great morning, and I'll catch you all later, after I get through with Tuesday Produce.

....This is continuing to be a summer of really nice sunny days in our area.  Temp is just 72 now, but boy that sun sure has power.  I'm out there doing the last of all the shrubs {trimming}, and just came in to cool off.  3 to go {tops only}, and I've been all the way around.  But some of the first one's trimmed need a bit of touch up....We'll try to do that and after that we'll declare victory.  But not for long, as it must be started over again soon....

But for August....and humidity as low as it's been these last few days....unbelievable.  Hence, it continues to be a nice summer.

Normally I would not be able to do this now in the bright sun, just too hot and humid.

From west Muncie last evening at McD's parking lot witnessed a long, long covered hopper car train headed west with 3 six axle power on the head end.  Must have been empties going back for another load to haul east and maybe south.  {NS}.  Lots of those consists go thru here on that line.

Well, I'm back from Produce!  We only had 68 people today!!  Got some good things, too:  potatoes, carrots, onion, yellow squash,  broccoli, and watermelons.

Lance, welcome back!!  Hope you make it back in a litle more often.

Larry, I know you're having a great time with Joe and Matt, and seeing quite a few trains, too!!  Think you'll ever be down Louisville, KY way?

Lunch today will be leftover beef stew and fresh-baked cornbread.  Then, tonight, I'll fix the Tuesday Mexican Fiesta, if that's all right with everybody.

Tree:  What did you do with Mum?  Did you drive all the way over there?  Your public wants to know.

Lance - nice pix.  Send some of those engines my direction.  Have seen the KCS here recently - still not sure about that paint job.  Could use a few more CSX - any time!

CW - need some kind of go-juice.  Doing 2 loads of laundry and a pot roast for dinner.  Running up and down two flights of stairs is wearing me out!

Randy - trucking is a thrill a minute!

Off to stick my head in washer.

Good afternoon all. It is a really nice day in Carolina, with the temp at 81 at high noon on main street. We usually have a break in the weather sometime in August , but it is usually a bit later. I remember back in 1977, we had a high of 107 one day and next morning, I had to wear a jacket to work..... Everybody take care

Mum flew home yesterday morning - then I spent the day chasing a steam engine (easy task - on a closed loop).

Only a two hour drive from my hotel room to Deshler.  Will head back up this afternoon to pack.

We've seen one green and three oranges....

Pictures later - I don't have an FTP program on this computer yet.

TO;  BOB, DAN, AND EVERYONE ELSE IN HERE TONIGHT:  OUR TUESDAY MEXICAN FIESTA IS NOW ON THE WARMER BAR:

Quesadillas, tacos, tamales, burritos (beef enchilada, beef, and beef & bean), Spanish rice, and shredded lettuce with diced onion and tomatoes.  And if anyone needs them, there are plenty of tortilla chips w/salsas and con queso dips.  Just help yourselves, and enjoy.

Our high today, reached 83, I think I remember hearing, and it's to get down to 61 in the morning.   Tomorrow's high is supposed to be about 84.  Not too bad going into the middle of August!

Good Wednesday morning, to one and all.  It's a little bit warmer this morning, w/a current temp of 66 degrees, going to 85 or 86 for a high today.  Still not too bad.  At least the humidity is still down.

Larry, glad you had a very nice time w/Joe and Matt.  Hope you got home safely last night.

Coffee is on, and just about finished brewing; fresh juices are made; and there's hot water ready for hot tea.  Also have freshly made lemonade and iced teas ready.

On the breakfast warmer bar this morning:  turkey bacon, pork sausage, hash browns, fresh homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy, scrambled eggs or fried eggs, whichever you want; on the cool end:  cantaloupe, watermelon, and we also have bagels and bear claws available this morning.

Gonna take my coffee, and a biscuit/sausage sandwich and go lurk in the corner booth.

Mawnin! 69 degrees and falling in Carolina this morning. It is supposed to get to 78 and rain all day, with thunder tonight. This is a rather different day from what we have been having, but is part of the pattern for mid August here. I can't say I am unhappy with it. My girls categorically refused to go out in the rain, and had to be tossed out. They did their thing and were back in record time... Everybody stay safe

Dropping in for a quick cup of coffee with you.

Winston-Salem shows 68 degrees and steady with showers (much needed) called for the remainder of the morning. My persimmon tree is full of fruit and the figs are almost ready for preserves. Looks like the starrt of a good late summer.

Taking care of the leftovers we have in the fridge for lunch today:  roast, carrots, onion, meat loaf, green beans, beef stew are all warmed up and on the warmer bar.

Quentin, Tom  and Piouslion1, your temps sound pretty darn good for this time in August.  Looks like you all are having weather as good as we are here in Louisville and surrounding areas.

Does anyone have any suggestions for supper tonight?  Please let me know if anybody has any ideas.  I'm drawing a blank so far.  Help!!

Pork Roast, Baked Potatoes, Turnip greens & stewed summer squash:

Yellow Cornbread & country butter

Washed down with a lot of sweet tea and followed up with some good lemon icebox pie and coffee.

Sounds good to me

Home.  Tired.  In one piece, however.  Truck can't say the same, although that piece of tire that a car kicked up in front of me could have done a lot more damage than just breaking a turn signal...

I'm unloading and heading for bed.  Maybe some pictures tomorrow.

Evening all....

Larry, the last time I hit a gator, it caught on one of my brake lines and ripped it right out of the brake chamber.  Now I dodge them, not easy in an 18-wheeler.

Speaking of commercial vehicles, last night the Federal Motor Carrier Service Administration ceased issuing new authorities to operators of bus lines, after the bus wreck in Sherman, TX.  It was found out that the company that owned the bus had been shut down by DOT, then reapplied but had not yet recieved a new authority at the time of the crash.  Another possible factor was that the steer tire that blew out was a retreaded tire, a federal no-no.  Should be very interesting the next few months as this plays out in the news.

In Claysville, PA tonight, stayed in Newburgh, NY last night and got to run the length of New Jersey this morning, load I picked up is en route to St Louis.

Will take a light meal before retiring in the sleeper.....

Here is tonight's supper menu:

Pork roast w/baked potatoes, turnip greens and stewed summer squash, yellow cornbread w/country butter  (Piouslion1, thanks for your suggestion!)

And, if that doesn't interest you, how about:

Country fried steak w/home fries, cole slaw or garden salad, fresh sliced tomatoes, from the garden

Dessert:  lemon icebox pie w/your choice of sweet or unsweetened tea or coffee (decaf for anyone who doesn't want any more caffiene tonight)

Larry, glad to hear you made it home safely, and a broken tail light is much better than YOU being hurt!

Everyone have a great evening, and take care!!
