Good morning all. Emma, thanks for the cake. That was super nice of you. Currently 45 degrees with scattered showers in Carolina this morning. I spent part of last night cleaning shelled pecans that are off limits for eating. My wife plans to sell them in her shop. I did run some quality control on them, tho....... Yall stay safe and warm.

Good Wednesday morning, all!  Emma, thanks for putting out the coconut cake last night!  Just wish I could partake of the butter pecan ice cream (anything with nuts is off limits, these days).  And butter pecan is one of my favorite flavors, too!  Oh well, tough luck for me, but everyone else gets to enjoy it, anyway.

Coffee, fresh juices, hot chocolate, hot cider and hot tea are ready to go.

And on the warmer bar this morning:  turkey bacon, sausage (patties & links), hash browns, scrambled eggs, bagels, bear claws, and I even made some more corn fritters this morning.

Gee, sure hope Mookie gets a break from her meeting, so she can at least drop in long enough to say "Hi!" to everyone.  Just doesn't seem the same around here, when she's not here.

You all have a good morning, be careful out there, and take care of yourselves!!

What day is it?

I am so not sure where or who.

Seminar yesterday - was fine.  But information given there won't be used for about 18 mos.  Draw your own conclusions.  I did and won't go back today unless my boss physically drags me there.  Just not worth my time and inattention.

It was kind of like hitting yourself in the head with a hammer - it felt so good when it was over.

Need a nap.  Warmer bar sounds perfect for just such an activity.

Morning folks!

Got to 39° F this morning, a regular warm front Laugh [(-D]! Supposed to get another Artic Express tomorrow!

Hey Mookie, I know what you mean about seminars, throws me off every time!

Question: Anyone in the Coffee Shop worked at a roundhouse or locomotive servicing facility or know anyone who has? I am doing research on what the typical day in the life for a worker at the roundhouse is or was like. Thanks!

I'm with you, Quentin:  come on spring!!  We're supposed to have some of the cold blast of air coming back to our area later tonight, in  the morning.  Yuck and double yuck!

Today's meal menu:  leftover roast, taters, carrots, green beans, cabbage, and cole slaw for anyone who doesn't like boiled cabbage.

Desserts:  chocolate cake, yellow cake w/caramel icing, and there's about half of Emma's white cake w/coconut icing left.

Mookie:  very glad you had a chance to drop by this morning.  Did you get warmed up?!?!  Sure hope so!!

Joe, got you and Lance covered for work tonight.  And for the rest of us, there's plenty more roast, taters, etc., for tonight.  Everything's on the warmer bar,

Going to take a survey among you all the rest of tonight, and in the morning:  would you all like to have a THURSDAY NIGHT PIZZA FEST OR A THURSDAY NIGHT MEXICAN FIESTA?  OR IS THERE A THIRD  OR FOURTH OPTION YOU WOULD LIKE?

Weather wise, we are to go back into the deep freeze for tomorrow and Friday, with it warming up Saturday to about 42 or so, and Sunday, around 49, and the beginning of the week in the low to mid 50s.  Wonder if that prediction will stay on track.

Good evening everyone. Thanks for the roast, taters and vegetables. Dinner [dinner]

As for Thursday, how about big pots of beef stew and beef chili with cornbread and sourdough bread instead? Given how cold most of the country is nowadays, we can use that for now. Smile [:)]

Good Thursday morning, you all.  What a day it's going to be:  we're basically at our high for the day, at 28 degrees.  Temps will be falling the rest of the day.  Maybe a few flurries/very light snow showers this morning.  Glad you made it in last night, Cannonball!  Hope you and Shirl are doing well.

Got all the hot drinks available this morning:  coffee, hot chocolate, hot cider, hot tea.  And the juice is in the cooler.  Oatmeal, grits, turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, biscuits & gravy, bagels and bear claws are on the warmer bar.

Meal survey still going on, until about 10 a.m. EST, so I still want to hear from more of you about what you'd like to see on the warmer bar today and tonight.  Dan, Mudchicken, Larry, Brian, everybody.

CW, I would go for beef stew and chili for dinner tonight. I might even provide a couple loaves of homemade bread to go with the beef stew. Chef [C=:-)]

It's another cold morning here in my hometown, but at least the wind is not blowing. Currently, we have 18 degrees below 0. It's supposed to warm up to about 13 here this afternoon.

...A very light dusting of snow about midnight overnight.  Temp earlier this morning was 12....and surprise:  At 9 am it was 9 degrees.  Sunshine is out bright.  Moon was shining very bright in high western sky right before it got daylight.  But I suppose the cold stuff will move in today...and perhaps it has started according to my 9 am reading.

Well, since I start most of the weather from here - (actually Sir Chicken starts most of it, but he is off investing his money in Warren Buffett, so we won't hear from him....)

They are predicting a warmer weekend - maybe high 30's, maybe more and that will, of course, move east.  Only fly in ointment is that with warmer temps usually comes rip your head off wind.

Wonder if I can stand outside Millie and get any warmth from the passing trains - or just more wind?

Good morning, all. It was 40 earlier in Carolina, but will be colder tonight. I don't have trouble getting the girls back in when its pretty cold, but when it warms up, they get stubborn!! I spent the morning talking to Europeans on the wireless. Some nice folks there. CW, I will side with beef stew and chili, if you don't mind, with maybe some plain cheesecake for dessert. My thanks. Gotta go, my pillow is calling my name....

Guys:  thanks for the suggestions.  Today's meals will be:

1.  Pepperoni pizza w/jalapeno peppers & mushrooms for Cannonball
2.  Beef stew w/Ray's homemade bread and cornbread
3.  Chili
4.  Shepherds' Pie w/bread sticks

Desserts:  Apple Brown Betty, chocolate cake w/chocolate icing, and yellow cake w/caramel icing.  And plain cheesecake for Tom.

Everything will be ready by 12:30 EST, so come on back in, and take your pick.

The last time I checked our outdoor thermometer, it showed a current temp of 18, and that was about three hours ago.  I know it's even colder now, because my hands are so cold, I can hardly type!  (And yes, I'm inside the house.)

Let's see - 12:30 EST - that's 11:30 CST and it is now 11 am CST - which means -

there is a "cake" test that must be performed before it goes "on the road"......

excuse me while I perform test.....

....Jen, that stuff you are sending east for us over the weekend and beyond....will warm up before it gets here...{Somehow}, as your comment of 30's will be high 40's here Sunday and beyond....Now that's according to our crack weather people.

Still a bright day here with the cold falling down from up north and some wind...Saw wind chill figures on an Indy station within this past hr. is -11.  Sure makes it feel good in the home office here to look out and see it bright, but most of all, the nice temp right here at my computer.

Good afternoon from Iowa, where we established a new record low this morning for this date: -20 degrees.  And that's not wind chill.  Since then we've bounced back quite nicely- my weather station shows 6.3 degrees ABOVE zero, and the sun is shining brightly.

Back to playing nurse here, TTFN!

It had gotten down to 19 degrees below 0 here last night, to say nothing of wind chill. Right now our temperature is 8 degrees above, and there is no wind.

I just had lunch with my sister and her husband at one of our local Perkins. I am going to teach my sister how to bake bread sometime next week. It is just a matter of finding out when I will have a day or two off from my job next week. Chef [C=:-)]

I heard this morning that the BNSF dumped several carloads of corn near downtown Billings, Montana in a derailment and that it will take them a few weeks to clean it all up. The grain was loaded at Madison, South Dakota and the train was headed for Washington state.

"GOOOOOOOD FRIDAY MOORRRRRRNING, DINER PEOPLE!!" (Thought I'd do my Robins Williams impersonation from the movie, "Good Morning, Vietnam".)  Must have woke up in a wierd mood this morning!

Yes, it's Friday, and no, we're not having our usual Friday doughnuts this morning.  Instead, it's just the plain ole everyday breakfast of turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, hot oatmeal w/toast, homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy, fresh baked bagels and bear claws.

Coffee, hot chocolate, hot cider and hot tea are all ready to be poured, and there's fresh oj, oj/tangerine and orange/pineapple juices this morning.

Our current temps are not quite as cold as some of you.  But we do have 12 very cold degrees, and I haven't heard them say the exact wind chill temp.  Guess they don't want us to know what it really feels like out there this morning.

Mookie, how did your taste test turn out yesterday?!?!

CW - got a bellyache, my teef itch, can't get out of the hammock - it was perfect!

Hey easterners - it is 20 here this morning - and that is above....celebrate!  Must be spring!  Remember my slogan - on 2/2 if he sees shadow, we have 6 more weeks of winter, doesn't see - we have 6 more weeks of 10 degree spring!

It is 20, so must be early spring - eh?

Hi to Joanie - get better fast otherwise you will never get your house back in order (sorry Brian)

No seminars now until February - then several each week.  But they won't be all day ones.  Just the short annoying ones.

Sir C - found something you can plant with the asparagus - egg plant.  Why would anyone eat something that resembles a purple egg?  Ugh!
