I'm lurking- just waiting to see if anybody misses me.  Sometimes I get overly sensitive to how I'm treated on the forum, and I end up in a "I-don't-want-to-post" mood.  But then, in a group person-to-person situation, this is the way I am for the most part anyway- I generally don't speak unless spoken to.  The way things have been on the forum lately has just amplified that trait alittle.

Willy and Ed have been around, I've seen posts from them in other threads recently, and Ed even started a thread the other day about foreign power going through his yard.

For supper tonight, can we have some babyback ribs with slaw and beans? I'll make the cornbread. I'll have coffee and toast this morning.

Anyway - we used to have a lot more snow than we do now - and I don't miss it one bit.  But our ice has never lessened and in the summer the humidity flattens you.

I would move in a heartbeat, but can't find anything that stays about 70-75.... 24/7/365 - and San Diego is getting waaaaay to crowded!

Ah - this time whining worked!  We managed to escape with about 3 inches of fluff.  Willy must have been pushing some buttons behind the curtain!

Sir Lion, Grampaw & Railfan1 -   I think of Carolinas/Georgia and I think of nice warm weather, hot humid summers and snow would be an insult.  Guess I need to rethink the southeast coast.

Oklahoma has very little snow also, but they have critters and storms to make up for that.

Brian - Of course we miss you.  You and I agree on your points - I just think people will say things to you in a faceless post that they would never say to your face.  Most of us don't set out to jab people, so don't know why there are a few that think they have been anointed with that job.

At any rate, welcome back - missed your tin shoes!

I am joining Tree for that 3 day weekend.  Maybe we will draw maps for 3 days.  Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

DH - I always try to find out why people use certain handles (Mudchicken was one of the first.)  It is an interest of mine.

Central Italy - is that for real that it has that kind of climate?  I took two years of Latin - can recite "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" in Latin - nothing else - and would love to take a trip there.

Oh yes - forgot to tell CW - Houston Ed is puterless for now.  Possibly something with a ballbat and a fit?  Laugh [(-D]

....Ball bat...!  There have been times here that certain electronics have been threatened as well....Not this computer as it has behaved rather well.....and I believe Ed's is the same kind.  He once commented about that in the past when I sent him a photo and the computer was in the photo.

White outside here today...about a half inch over night, and snow flurries at times.  Believe that's about all the Winter we'll be seeing today...possibly some more snow flurries, but no big accumulating snow.  And the temp....??  I thought the cold stuff would be moving in by now but it's 34 plus degrees right now.  Started to get a few degrees warmer late last night.

More daylight is accumulating each day passing now...both in the evening and morning.  That's a good thing....Spring is getting closer.

...Edit: {Afternoon now}.

To my surprise the temp rose today up to almost 40 degrees and of course took away the little cover of snow we got overnight.   But I'm sure that cold wave is still on the way.

Only one problem: I don't like babyback ribs. Can we also make a big pot of Texas-style chili with pinto beans on the side? Dinner [dinner]

Hi Model:

We got a dusting down here in NC with rain for the remainder of the day. I can't gripe to much about the stuff this year seeing that we are still in the stages of a year long drought.

Have a great day folks,

Yes, I believe any moisture will be appreciated down in the Carolina's area as we understand the drought has been extremely serious.

Madamozle La Mook, you have a complete misconception of this part of paradise. Lemme splain.... Summers here are very hot with high humidity. Several times last year, we were the hot spot in the country with highs of 105 and 106, with the heat index well above the official temp. Combine that with the high humidity and folks here nearly perish to death  Winters can be the exact opposite. Usually, very little snow over a winter, but the temp can get into the low teens or even colder, but still with the high humidity. West of us, toward the mountains, they get a good deal of snow, but here, hardly ever.  I guess what all this means is that there is no really perfect climate on this planet.

Well said Tom, Mook I believe does understand that things are a bit different here for Summer and Winter from what she gets in her part of the country. However we should remember to invite our fellow forum members to come visit us in mid to late April for our Springtime. As you, I am sure know, that time of year makes most everyone subject to its seduction,

(in a Southern kind of way - of course).

Thanks guys, for the couple of suggestions for today.  Chili is almost ready, and the baby back ribs are going on the grill as I type.  So they'll both be ready in time for our lunch 'rush' at 12 noon EST.

Brian, you are always missed when you're not around.  So we know you are semi present, how about just saying "Hi, everyone" once in awhile, so we know you're around, o.k?  Wondered why I hadn't seen Ed around anywhere for a few days.  I did see the thread he started at the beginning of the week, and the pictures were very nice to see.  Always love looking at pictures!!

Looks like the snow has left our area; if it doing anything now at all, it's a very fine mist, that you can hardly see.  Do know that all the cars going by the house aren't using their windshield wipers.

Have a good afternoon, stay warm and dry, and come back in often.

Thanks Mook and CW- I shall endeavor to comply with that request.  I do know that a big part of my problem lately is a lack of time and cooperative weather to engage in any train watching around here.  Our January Thaw has come and gone, and it wasn't a very enjoyable period (no sunshine along with it).  My Digital Rebel has sat in its case since Christmas.

We can vouch for the beautiful Spring in the Carolina's...Returning from our Winter's stay in Florida back several years ago we would side trip into Saluda, N C {several years, looking for action on the hill}, and the green stuff growing and Red Bud and Dog Wood and Rhododendron flowers and others in the town itself was absolutely beautiful.  Have pic's but they are not digital....

Hammercy what a day!!!! We have our primary this Saturday, and the telephone has been ringing constantly with candidates loving up to us. I was trying to take a nap this afternoon and it was a constant thing. One even told me to "hang up, because this message is intended for an answering machine!". I will be proud to see the voting over so I can get some sleep.

Thanks for the yummy food CW. I think I might stick around for a while and warm up in front of the fire(Do we have oneConfused [%-)]). I was out this evening trying to get some pictures of a local Jersey Transit train in the snow. I'm gonna have to finish up the roll of film soon so i can see if any of them came out. I think I may have been pushing the limits of slow shutter speeds that I can handhold at. Anyway my toes are just about froze off and need to get toasty in front of the flames. Maybe if Mook is around we can sceme up something funny to do.
For now a word of advice- chase trains from the warmth of an automobile,  NOT ON FOOT! (especially in the snow)

Good Friday morning to you all!!  And a cold morning, at that!  Coffee, hot chocolate, hot cider, hot tea, as well as fresh juices are all ready for everyone.

On the warmer bar this morning:  bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, hot buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy, oatmeal (hot cinnamon & spice and maple & brown sugar), blueberry muffins, bagels and bear claws.

So, gather around, and get yourselves some hot food in you to warm up your insides, and have a great day today.  And, speaking of warming up, Emma, did your feet finally thaw?  Sure hope so!!

I brought in the new US map I bought so I can take a little time and look up some of the cities that come up in the forum.

As I said before, some people have golf handicaps - I have major geography and history handicaps.  Better late than never I guess.

Better raid the fridge and pack a burro - I won't be back after today until maybe Tues morning, but have an all day meeting away from here and again Wed morning - so - maybe two burros.....

Heard Amtrak this morning as I was coming into the building - different engine on the front and right on time! I like the other one better - and no - I have no clue which ones they run.  Just that they sound different.

We're supposed to only get to 17 on Sunday, but otherwise the next 10 days look pretty seasonal and mild.  I'm not complaining.

Good afternoon to you all!  Our FRIDAY FISH FRY is now on the warmer bar.  Today's fish selections are:  cod, perch, jack salmon, hallibut, haddock and shrimp.  Hot sides:  corn on the cob, baked beans, fries and cornbread.  Cold sides:  cole slaw, and garden salad.

Desserts:  chocolate cake,  yellow cake w/caramel icing, chocolate, apple, cherry, peach and pecan pies.

Mookie, when you go trackside this weekend, be sure you have a set of thermals on under your street clothes (maybe two layers of thermals might keep you toasty)!  And anyone else going trackside this weekend, that advice goes for you also.  Shoot, I've got a thermal top on, just here in the house today!

Everyone have a good afternoon, and if I dont' get to talk to you before you leave for the weekend, those of you who won't be around over the next three days, have a safe, warm weekend.

Had to help with parking detail last night for ~6 hours from 5-11 PM.  It was a tad chilly and windy.  It's a good thing I'm so gravity friendly or I'd have ended up in MN!  That and my feet literally froze in place twice.  Shock [:O]Laugh [(-D]

...30.0 degrees in Muncie right now.  Beautiful blue sky and bright sunshine.  Stopped {first this year}, at our NS tracks....right besides the Mc D's parking and had some lunch but no traffic.  Truck was warm as we pulled in and the bright sun kept it that way.  My kind of January {for here}....A good thing.  But no trains.
