Nice and quiet....

The nasty stuff Sunday night stayed south of us - my drive home was in light snow.  I don't think we're supposed to see any of the junk, and I'm not complaining.

I see some good late night munchies here......

Good morning from Carolina. Well, today is quack day, two appointments, and hopefully I can find out what's going on with my shoulder. 57 degrees here, supposed to get up to 80 before it's over!!!!!! I'll have a double helping of pancakes with sausage links and scrambled eggs if available. Thanks

Tom

Good Tuesday morning, to one and all.  Very foggy outside this morning.  Coffee , juices and hot chocolate are ready this morning, along with hot water for tea.

All the regular breakfast items are on the warmer bar, including pancakes and sausage links.  Think I need to go grab a bowl of oatmeal:  my tummy is growling at me this morning.

Tom, good luck on the two doctor appointments!!

You all take care this morning, and I'll see ya after TUESDAY PRODUCE.

Good morning everyone. (Grabs big mug of hot coffee and a big bowl of oatmeal with raisins)

The wind is strong this morning, coming from the north at around 15 mph. Small wonder why it's 43 degress outside as I type this.

Can you make some casseroles for lunch and dinner? Dinner [dinner]

....We're still doing great missing all this devastating ice and freezing rain that is causing so much trouble.  Oaklahoma seems to be really hit bad.  Can sympathize with them as our memory is still clear how bad that can be with the ice devastation we had back in 2005.  Crews worked over 6 months to restore, repair and clean up all that happened.  So our best wishes and prayers go out to those that have been hit with this weather system.

This morning we registered 39.4 degrees and to go to 50 in the area today, so no ice under those conditions.  Now the warmer conditions have melted just about all the several inches of snow we had.

Item:  I noted all that warm weather on the weather map, including reaching highs of 70 plus in the Carolina's.  Weird Winter type weather so far.

Do I have the star on straight?Clown [:o)]

We lived that devastation in 1998, as you can see here: http://www.depauvillefd.org/icestorm.htm

Now, almost 10 years later, you can still pick out the evidence.

...Tree:  Amazing...!  Those photos could have been taken in our neighborhood back in 2005.  I'd put a few on here but I'm not up to the ability to do so....

I strongly suspect that I will be able to provide very similar pictures starting tomorrow...

Raining here now, and 30 degrees.  Trees are still holding up for the most part, but that's because there's no wind... YET.

If I don't post anywhere for the next couple of days, you'll know why.

Brian - we got freezing rain for something like 36 straight hours.

That cylinder of ice on the hood of my truck was hanging below the power lines - it doesn't show what was actually on the power lines.  I figured it out at a pound a foot.  With, say, five wires between poles, and 100 feet, that's an extra 500+ pounds.  We lost upwards of 8,000 power poles.  They'd go like dominos.  You can see that the wires are actually stretched to the point of touching the ground in one picture there.  Those poles eventually broke.

Many trees recovered (but not all).  You can still see bent-over tops and branches left over from that event, though.

The storm covered into Canada, which is where you may have seen the images of large power transmission towers collapsing.

Larry, those pictures are both fantastic and impressive!!

SactoGuy, I will include two casserole dishes today:  a beef and broccoli casserole, w/green peas and diced carrots, and a tuna melt casserole .  Along with the casseroles , I've made the following pizzas for today and tonight:

1.  Anchovie
2.  Cheese
3.  Pepperoni/sausage/mushroom
4.  Supreme

Thought maybe you all might be getting tired of MEXICAN FIESTA TUESDAY,  so decided to change the menu somewhat.  Hope it meets with everyone's approval.

Well! What a disastrous day at the quack's offices. The first told me my medicare part D plan was no good and told me to disenroll before he would see me..... Then, if you remember, my shoulder has been paining me something awful for the last week or so. My orthopaedic surgeon xrayed me and said the arm is broken. Small wonder it hurt like blazes I initially broke it about 3 years ago and it is trying to rebreak at the same place. Thank G-D it is not a screw backing out. It is in a clamshell cast and already feels much better, but not particulary good yet. At least, no surgery is indicated. TA

The warmer bar has now been replenished with more of the casseroles and pizzas for tonight.  Joe, fixed a couple of different divided containers for you for work tonight!  Maybe one of these days, soon, the rain will end, and things can dry out!!

Good evening everyone. Thanks for the tuna melt casserole! Dinner [dinner]

Speaking of railroads, I wonder what your local city did to former railroad yards? I know that in Louisville, KY the former Louisville & Nashville railroad yard was turned into the site for Papa John's Cardinal Stadium; here in Sacramento, they're about the finalize the plans for the extensive redevelopment of the Sacramento Rail Yards, probably the largest railyard transformation project in US history.

Actually here in Louisville, only the L & N's South Louisville Shop Complex was

removed for the stadium, there was a small yard there, but most of that area

was just the shop complex. (there was, and still is an L & N (CSX) and Southern

(NS) crossing in that general proximity.)

The main ex L & N yard still exists (with expansions) not very far south from there.

Well, we still have power here in CR- thank God the wind hasn't picked up very much after the storm.  We've got about half an inch of ice coating everything- lots of tree branches down.

Good morning to all. 63 degrees and dry in Carolina this morning. It is supposed to hit 80 again today. We had a record high locally yesterday, just two weeks before Christmas. Back in 1980 or 81, I had to cut the lawn on December 23, so I guess these things run in cycles. CW, I think I will settle on some oatmeal this morning, if you please. Yall all have a good day

Good Wednesday morning, everyone!  When I went to bed last night, our temp was still in the 60s, believe the temp was like 64.2 at 10 p.m.  Now, the wind has picked up, drizzling rain outside this morning, and temps are 45.5 at almost 8 a.m.  We got up to 74 degrees yesterday, and could actually go outside in short sleeves!  Today, temps are to gradually fall during the afternoon, with more rain coming in this afternoon, and night.

Coffee, juices, hot chocolate, and hot tea are ready.  On the warmer bar, there is:  turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, biscuits & sausage gravy, and the following kinds of oatmeal:  peaches & cream, regular oatmeal, maple & brown sugar, raisin & spice, and cinnamon oatmeal.

SPECIAL NOTE:  Hope Mookie was able to make it into work this morning, and will possibly make an appearance in here soon.

SPECIAL NOTE #2:  Happy B-Day [bday] TO RANDY VOSS!!  Will think of something very special for lunch/dinner today, in case he gets to drop in on his birthday!  Happy B-Day [bday] Happy B-Day [bday] Happy B-Day [bday]

Ack!  Got frost up my nose!

They closed the schools (except ours) and I get to stay home when the Lincoln schools close.  Driver was supposed to go in, but told him he wasn't taking himself and MIllie out on glare ice.  It was total ice until after day break when it snowed a little.

Now cold and still icy and snow on top and I still hate winter. (Late fall)

But Missouri and Oklahoma have now gone into hibernation and we won't hear from them until spring thaw.

We were lucky - bored, but lucky.

Off to find my desk top.

Toast and PB, please.  Got coffee?

FWI: ASTRONOMICAL winter is from the December solstice to the spring equinox.

Meterological winter (how official weather records are kept) goes from December 1 to February 28th (or 29th during leap year).

Good morning from cold Sacramento, CA. It's 37 degrees outside as I type this. Shock [:O]

(Grabs big mug of hot chocolate and big bowl of oatmeal with maple and brown sugar)

By the way, the Sacramento City Council has finally agreed to a plan to transform the former Sacramento Rail Yards into a major housing and shopping district. Unlike houses out in the suburbs, I think the housing at this new development will sell really fast, mostly because of its close proximity to downtown Sacramento.

Z - going to put that bit of info in my bank of bits of info!  That is interesting.  '08 will be one day longer, since it is a leap-ed year.  Sure, drag this mess out an extra day!

Maybe someone will knit me a nose muffler?  Let's see - I have a forest green coat, can borrow the red stocking cap from The Driver (resemble an olive) and now we need to decide the color for the nose cover.. Maybe red again for Rudolph the Olive?

....And along with the above Meterological news also is another one....In about 3 days, the sun will start to set later.....

So far, we've been missing all the terrible ice, sleet and freezing rain...!  About 37 and very bright outside now with lots of blue sky.  Looks like the weather pattern is finally changing and a big High system is coming down from the north and bringing cold weather.  At least it looks like it will be more of a "normal" late Fall type system and not the treacherous stuff that's been spread over a large portion of the country.

All of our few inches of snow has melted....Bare grass....some leaves.

Mookie, I don't knit, but I do crochet.  Maybe I can crochet you a nose muffler; or, I can call a certain friend in AZ., who does all kinds of knitting and crocheting!  Maybe she already has a pattern!!

In honor of Randy Voss' birthday, for lunch and dinner we have:  pepper steak over rice, mashed taters, and mixed veggies.  I know he doesn't prefer birthday cake of any flavor, so I've made several cherry pies (just in case he does get a chance to drop in here today.)

CW - saw a knitted one one time - guess if you wear glasses, they steam up your lenses so you can't see to walk.  And - what if your nose runs?  Laugh [(-D]

Just wash the muffler out each day.  It'll catch that!  Dead [xx(]

Happy B-Day [bday] Randy!  Many happy returns.

I got re-certified to certify (Confused [%-)] stay with me here!) new lifeguards today.  I was a bit disappointed that one of the requirements for passing the course was dropped for a rather disheartening reason.  Instead of having to swim 500 yards (20 lengths of a 25 yard or 'average' pool) in under 10 minutes, now you can take 'as long as is needed' to swim 300 yards (12 lengths).  The change was made, apparently, because candidates complained that the test was 'too hard' and 'Why do we have to swim that far anyway?'  In 12 years of rescuing swimmers I can say that you need to be in good shape to do it!  Regardless of how big the pool is.

Especially if you have to rescue someone of my build: I'm 5'10" and 270 lbs, but it's a solid 270 lbs.  Here's a hint at what I can do with my legs.  Currently (as of yesterday) I can do 90 lbs more than what's pictured or 1125 lbs for 3 repetitions.  My bench is around 350 lbs right now on its way to my goal which is 405 lbs.

Anyway...I think I'll grab something warm to go and sit by the tracks for a while.  Any train I see that I don't like I'll tackle!  Laugh [(-D]
