Dan's trying a new skill: lurking!
I've been pretty busy and don't have the time I did the last few months. I'm still around, but not as frequent as I was.
I guess lurking is good in that case, but please don't "Lurk" over my shoulder!!

Joe, glad you made it in!!
We're still waiting for our first measurable s#*w to fall, I imagine there will be
many more than four cars in the ditches!!
We only had a few flurries today, but the wind has been something else!!
Started the day off around 40 something and it's now 30 degrees and falling;
wind is gusting between 35-45mph.
Not a good day to go train watching unless you stay in a vehicle with a Good heater.
(or are really bundled up and have some kind of a wish)

Hmm, I knew I felt a presence there, but just couldn't put my finger on it.
Yeah, and I was out in that wind!! Had to go to the library and return some books; when I came out of the library, that wind about blew me to the northwest! (Wonder where I would have ended up? Iowa, Nebraska, or somewhere else, Little Rock, maybe, to see our Diner owner?!?! Then, I stopped at the grocery, and picked up the fixings to make chili, here at home tomorrow.
Got more chili out on the warmer bar; even made another two pots: medium and spice hot. Figure maybe some of us could stand the heat from the hot chili to warm up!!
Joe, I've got a couple of containers ready for you, for work tonight. One medium, and one hot. Take your pick, whichever one you want.
Taking a short break from addressing Christmas cards. Will probably have them ready to go out in tomorrow's mail.
You all take care, I'll see ya later!
Horrible shooting in a mall this afternoon here in Omaha. Nine people are confirmed dead (including the shooter) with another five injured. The shooter left a suicide note saying "I'm going to go out in style". Such a horrible, sick person. All of the people that were killed or injured will be in my prayers tonight.
Today was my grandpa's funeral. We had the most beautiful funeral service I've ever seen. I hope he was in Heaven smiling down on us during the service.
Three to five inches of snow are expected tomorrow with similar amounts possible again on Saturday. 'Tis the season for snow.
Willy
My prayers for those in Omaha...not a good thing.
Mutt I generally don't lurk directly over shouders. I prefer to do it from safe distances!

Willy,
Very glad you have posted on the forum, when I first heard about those shootings in
Omaha, I thought to my self, Willy lives there, hope he's alright.
Not at all good for other people's Loved One's. (Thoughts, Prayers and Condolences to all)
As sad (or good) as funerals really can be, they're really supposed to be a kind of
sending off party to that person for a journey to another life. I'm very sure your
Grandpa Was Smiling then, and still has that smile on his face now.

Thank you, but you might want to practice your breathing so it isn't quite so heavy.
I usually don't do that either! When I lurk I tend to become thick air and pretty hard to detect.
Temp is supposed to hit 3 degrees tonight. Time to throw another oak log or two on the fire and curl up!

See that you do! Hmm, I'm still feeling a draft
Our temp. isn't supposed to be that low tonight, but the extra logs on the fire and
curling up sounds very good.
All of .8 degrees as I type this.
At least it's not snowing and blowing, or slushing.

....Our skies cleared this afternoon and we had sunshine. But, now the clearness will let it, along with the cold air coming down from up north to plunge somewhat. As Tree just indicated it's cold. Right here, right now: 20 degrees. In the morning to be 12.

I've got 12.7 degrees here. We're supposed to get 3-5" as well tomorrow, on top of the frozen slushy that we got back on Saturday.
Willy, condolences again re your grandfather- he did make sure you weren't doing any Christmas shopping today at Westroads. Joanie and I have been in that mall, she shopped there back on the Labor Day weekend Sunday in 2005 while I shot pictures of UP trains going past the depot downtown.

Quentin, are you sure Muncie had sunshine today? The wind apparently didn't blow that towards Louisville today. Overcast all day, looking like it could rain or snow.
We're to get to about 18 degrees tonight, may have to heed Larry's warning and go to
the "Blanket Chest" for another one.
Good Thursday morning! It's apparently not gotten as cold last night/this morning, as they were predicting last night: we're currently at 25, 26 degrees at 6:24. Still plenty cold though, even without any winds this morning.
Coffee is on, fresh juices made and cooling in the fridge, and on the warmer bar this morning: turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, homemade buttermilk biscuits, sausage gravy, bagels, bearclaws, blueberry muffins, and apple/raisin muffins.
Got all the Christmas cards addressed last night: now, have to seal them up, and put them out on the mailbox for the mail carrier to pick up today. Hope everyone has a good morning, and also hope everyone stays nice and toasty warm!!

a balmy 5 degrees this morning.calling for more snow maybe tommorow morning.matt has used 2 calamity days already.the state gives the school 5 days.I'm going to make more hot chocolate.i got mookies mug down for her.
CW, how many Christmas cards were you planning on mailing today? If it were not for the high cost of postage these days, I would probably be mailing a lot of Christmas cards myself. At one point a few years ago I had a list of 150 to 200 people who I thought were worthy of a Christmas card from me. You would think that during the Christmas season the U.S. Postal Service might think about reducing their rates for first class mail and thus move a lot more mail and make more money in the whole process. But NO!!
At last report we had 23 degrees here in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and the wind is out of the south at 17 mph. There is a threat that we might get one to two inches of snow later this afternoon. Our first major snow storm came through here late last Friday night and into Saturday. We got roughly 4 to 5 inches of snow out of this system. We dodged a bullet, so to speak, as it could have been a heck of a lot worse here.
I'm going to see if I can find someone who has a pickup and would be able to help me go after a Christmas tree and then bring it home. I am looking at buying a 7 1/2 foot plantation or balsam fir. A close friend of mine gave me her old artificial tree last year, but I would rather have the real thing, it will smell so good when I've got it into my house. Just making room for my Christmas tree in my living room will be a production in and of itself, as I will have a lot of rearranging of my furniture to do.
I've thought about decorating the cedar deck on the front of my house with a few strings of lights, and I should have done that before it really got cold. It's no fun handling a staple gun with your bare hands when the wind chill is so many degrees below 0!

As CW said, it didn't get quite as cold overnight as predicted. But the temp. has
dropped several degrees since her posting. It's now about 21-22, cooler than
Souix Falls! We actually dodged the bullet by not getting any of the snow that was
predicted, but that d#*n S#*w word is still lingering in the forecasts!!
Ray, we have about 30 cards to go out, mainly for close friends, family and
and Forum members; you're correct about cost of postage limiting how many we send.
Mook, where are you?! Beagle is ready with cream cheese, and very large cup of coffee.
puff, puff - been outside sticking my tongue out for the snow flakes. Hard way to get a drink of water!
Sounds really messy on the streets, but will be done by early afternoon. Ack....
Guess after that mess in Omaha, the quiet true midwest has lost some more of it's innocence. I have some rants and raves about this whole situation, but won't change a thing and I don't need the exercise of my vocal chords.
However, this weather will definitely cut down on train watching and I can and will yell about that! Maybe two beagles - put one on each ear...... O^~^O

.....Walt....Where did you get all the temp this morning.....? We did have clear skies overnight...{and all that sunshine yesterday afternoon}, and the clear skies really allowed our overnight temp to drop. 8 degrees when I first looked at it this morning. No wind. And again, really bright sunshine here in central Indiana of the midwest...{J}....ha.
And Walt, you mention of it being a bit colder later, etc....The coldest morning temps {typically}, occur right after sunup. We're beyond that now though....It presently is: 16.5 degrees and lots of bright sunshine blazing in my east window here in the home office....
Sorry for all that tragedy out in Omaha.

When CW first posted this morning around 5:30 EST, our temp was about 25 degrees
and no noticeable wind. When I posted, the temp had dropped several degrees. We
had clear skies last night; but during the day yesterday, it was strictly cloudy and
overcast. Our temps did slowly drop during the late afternoon yesterday. Early
yesterday afternoon, our temps were in the high forties. Within about an hour or two,
it dropped into the low 30s. (Very strong winds.)
Mookie!! Two beagles?!?! Now, I've to get an extra leash?!
Man oh man, I'm already tired of all the cold! I know I'm not the only one, but it feels good just to get it off my chest. Willy, could you check your weather machine, and possibly send some 45 degree temps w/sunshine our way? Would really appreciate it.
Along with leftover chili from last night, you also have Italian spaghetti w/garlic Texas toast, garden salad, and breadsticks are on each table, booth, and the counter. With regular assortment of desserts in the cooler (cakes are on the counter, though).
You all have a good, warm afternoon, and I'll drop back in later on.
In spite of all the tragedys of the day ,there is some pleasant pictures .
Pictures of( the two of us ) are sweet in their own way.

Fish like peas? Over my years of fishing, worms, crawdads, pieces of bread, pieces of meat, minnows, etc., but peas? that is a new one on me! (a lot of Humans won't even eat them!)
No unspeakable weather right now; but it's supposed to get cold again overnight
and "Weather Guessers" are telling us to look out for "bad stuff". I guess
when it happens, it happens!
