Good morning Americans, it's Saturday! 30 degrees and clear in Carolina. It's a big day here in SC because it's the day when USC usually whomps Clemson. Records, stats and the like are discarded, and this is THE season for both teams. Hot oatmeal with walnuts and dates is the order of the day here and then its a few hours on the wireless. Have a great day.

....Wow, 30 degrees in S C and Louisville......and Muncie.  Must be a wide spread weather pattern.  Partly sunny.  To be dry today.  Believe it's headed to the upper 40's here.  Guess I can live with that.

Everyone have a good weekend.

Chilly, clear, and a bit breezy here in CT this morning.  I'm not complaining.

Just reminded myself of a TV weather forecaster in Detroit some years ago - he'd combine two words from the forecast and write the new word across the Michigan shaped chalkboard.  In this case - "CHEEZY."  Big Smile [:D]

Good evening everyone. Thanks for the calzone! Dinner [dinner]

Anyway, it's going to be another cold night here in Sacramento, CA. I need to make more warm beverages like hot chocolate and hot tea.

No pizza for me tonight - too many munchies at the baby shower.  Had a good time, and got to meet all of the DIL's side of the family.

After the festivities I availed myself of something I discovered on the web - the Connecticut Trolley Museum.  Got two trolley rides (about 1.5 miles each) - one in an open car, which was brisk, to say the least.  They're having their holiday event through the end of the year, nearly every evening, 5-9.  A real jewel.

Driving back to Northern NY tomorrow.  Better get my rest....

Good Sunday morning!  Quentin, haven't received my copy of Classic Trains yet; will have to let you know.  Maybe it'll come in tomorrow's mail.

Coffee, hot chocolate and hot tea are ready for this morning.  On the warmer bar, we have:  turkey bacon, sausage patties & links, scrambled eggs, homemade buttermilk biscuits & sausage gravy, country fried ham w/redeye gravy, blueberry muffins, hash browns, fried taters, pancakes, waffles, and cantaloupe chunks.

Do I have any special requests for Sunday Dinner today?  If so, let me know by 10 a.m. , so I can get it prepared.

Good morning everyone. (big mug of hot coffee and plate of sausage patties, hash browns and a small stack of pancakes)

Given it's so cold in much of the country now, can we have big pot of hot beef stew with cornbread for Sunday Dinner? And include a big pot of hot French onion soup, too? Dinner [dinner]

Like you, I haven't done much more than thumb through it; it looks like there's going to

be some very good reading when I do get to it.

Interesting morning here in Omaha as well.

BNSF had a train stall out on their tracks through Omaha. The BNSF has a fairly decent hill in Omaha and I've heard a few trains that sounded like they were about to stall, but this was the first one that I've actully seen it happen to. He had two SD40-2s (one in green BN paint and one in CN paint) and he was just barely sputtering along with the throttle in notch 8 as he approached a grade crossing and finally came to a stop right on the crossing. The engineer reduced the throttle and backed off the grade crossing to let automobile traffic through.

They had about 15 intermodal cars on the front and then a long string of autoracks. I believe the two lead units took the intermodal cars on their way to Lincoln and left the autoracks on the mainline for some rescue engines to pick up later. This line only sees a few trains each day, so I think they figured it wouldn't hurt too much to leave part of the train right on the mainline for a little while. In fact, I just heard a train go by, so they must have gotten things cleared out.

Anyway, just thought I'd share that story. This sure isn't mountain railroading here in Omaha, but it has its moments.

Here are the choices for Sunday Dinner:

1.  Beef stew w/cornbread
2.  French onion soup
3.  Hamburgers/cheeseburgers w/sauteed onion, and homemade tarter sauce and fries

There is also some pizza left from last night.  It's also on the warmer bar, with everything else.

Had a few sprinkles earlier, but not doing anything out right now.  If I recall correctly, the majority of the rain is supposed to come into our area around 4 p.m., or so, and might even have a little bit of thunder & lightning.

Good Monday morning, everyone!  Been a little hectic around here this morning, so just now getting in here.  Joe, thanks for putting the coffee on, making the juice, and the cinnamon rolls.  We've got off and on rain this morning, and like you, Joe, they're saying we may see some snow flurries or snow showers over the weekend.  Not too sure about accumulation yet.

Welcome back to all who were gone for the looonng weekend!  Glad to have you back!!

Yo.  Back in time to leave again.  Driver has dr appt at 1 pm today, so must rush through my morning and leave.

Survived family and Thanksgiving just fine.  Not ready for cold quite yet, so slowed down train watching a bit these last 4 days.  Need to get back on schedule and find some warmer blankets for legs.

Looks like maybe SE will get some rain, Houston got theirs and Tree had something going on up there - looked kind of white?  We had a crust of snice one morning.  Blah....

Sounds like Sir Chicken will be flying south of the net and asparagus patch, so will miss us - just as we will miss both of them.  But he will surface sometime and I will be ready.

Off to do something.  Will put some cereal in my pockets on way out the door.  That milk is going to be hard to deal with.....

Mook

Still some snow around when I got home, but none in Connecticut, where I spent the weekend!  It was cold, though.  Especially that open trolley ride...

Stopped in to help get the Polar Express out last night on my way through Utica.  While I was waiting for the rest of the crew to arrive I watched CSX do some local work, which must have included picking up some locomotives from the SuzieQ as well as some cars - there were something like 8 locomotives at the head end, but they weren't all on line.  Still pretty impressive.

Baby back ribs, slaw and beans will be tonight's menu.  Beans are a-cookin', and slaw is in the fridge.  Ribs will be ready just in time for supper, and Joe, will have containers ready for you (and Lance, too, if he's around).  Haven't seen him around much lately.  Hope he's doing all right.

And if anyone doesn't want any ribs, we've got beef stew w/cornbread on today's menu, also.

I'll grab some stew and bread.  Sounds good on a 'blah' Monday like today is turning out to be.

Finally got a bunch of pics uploaded to RRpicturearchives.net.  The address for what I've uploaded so far is http://cnw6000.rrpicturearchives.net and I've got some more to go.  Back to work, I guess...

By the way, I was reading that there are studies for a possible high-speed rail link from Louisville, KY to Indianapolis and Chicago. That would be great, though I've read the top speed of the trains would only be 110 mph, a bit slow in my opinion.

Good Tuesday morning, folks!  Rain is out of here, but it's kind of cool this morning, with a temp in the low 30s.

Coffee is ready, and fresh juices are made (oj, oj/tangerine, pineapple), and all the regular breakfast menu items are on the warmer bar.  Hope everyone had a great evening, and I'll see you all around 11, or whenever I get through with TUESDAY PRODUCE.

^00^ - that's how my overnite went.  Just too much in my personal puter on my shoulders to let me really sleep soundly.  Besides, BNSF must have been cleaning house since they sent everything on the eastern end of the state out the door.  Should have been a nice sound to lull me to sleep, but on the contrary - I was trying to listen closely to see if I could tell if it was going north or south and whether it was coal or freight.

Anyway - Dan - I checked out your BNSF - and found that you have 3123 and I have 3125 on my list of sightings.  4570 and 9643 were both on my list.  So now you must send 3123 my direction with a note to stop and wait for me to get there so I can put it on my list.

Tree - hope you are back home safe and sound since Willy is cranking up his weather machine and looks like we are going to get very cold.  I will be sure to send it your way.  Then you will have a true polar express right at home!

Going to snag left over ribs (love them) and drag them out the door to a hiding place where - as an only child - I don't have to share.

Good morning folks. I think I'll make a big pot of hot chocolate while I'm here in the Diner this morning. It's pretty cold here in my hometown of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Right now we have a temperature of 11 degrees F, with a wind chill factor of 1 degree below 0. I kind of wonder if any of the other members of this forum have it any colder than Sioux Falls.
