CW - just wait.  We were 78 yesterday - in the 50's and fog today and in the 30's tomorrow.  Possible snow flakes on Thursday.  My turkey has goose bumps.  Ah autumn in the true midwest.

Joe, fortunately, they did not come to the door.  I looked out the window, and saw them parked out there.  Pitch dark, 6 a.m., and around here, that's asking for trouble.  I think, come Jan. 8th, I will not be doing it anymore.  Getting pretty darned tired of all the bull they come up with.  Let someone else have all the headaches.

Q - get a nice landlord and he will pick up all your leaves for you!  Even blew them out of the garage!  Boy, you just don't find good help like that any more.

You just wait - the west is going to send the pseudo-midwest some interesting weather!

As long as I can get to CT and back Okay.  Baby shower for the the newest member of the family (due in March, as you'll recall) on Saturday, which means I'll be on the road on Friday and Sunday.

Might get some trainwatching in, too....

...............But, I'm my own landlord.  I don't even have any trees that produce leaves {on purpose}....All evergreens.  But the combination of west wind and neighbor to the west....produce leaves.

Not really too bad this year and the yard is clear now.  I set on the middle of two lots and I have a bit of space for them to collect, but I've been keeping after them.  Only bagged 3 bags and controlled the rest by John Deere and the mulching mower, which I just finished doing again.  West side trees are just about bare now, so believe we've won the game.

Getting ready to go get our Thanksgiving Dinner fixings.  So decided to come in an hour early, and post supper.  Continuing our Tuesday Mexican Fiesta,  with everything refreshed on the warmer bar:  burritos (beef & beef/bean), tacos, Spanish rice, tamales, enchiladas, quasadillas, etc., are now available.

Rain coming in for tomorrow, then Thursday, snow showers.  Temps Thursday won't make it above low to mid 40s.  Looks like winter may be coming early to our neck of the woods!!

Joe and Lance (and anyone else who needs it) containers are made up and in the fridge.

CW, thanks for the wishes, and the same to you. I"ll have a couple of danishes, if you please, and some hot chocolate. Not much on tap for turkey day, my folks have mostly died out and my wife only has a sister who lives away, so I guess we are on our own, and will celebrate with our 4 legged children. 53 degrees and clear, same for tomorrow, Man, we need the rain in the southeast. All the best for a happy holiday to all.

Good morning everyone (grabs big mug of hot coffee and a couple of bear claws).

I picked up the Honeybaked Ham yesterday and will deliver it to my cousin's house for Thanksgiving tomorrow. We don't eat turkey in our family. Smile [:)]

I am practicing being Amtrak II - a little late, but breezing through anyway.

Had breakfast with the Driver this morning - he is off today and taking Millie into the car doctor.  Fine tuning her for winter.

Had a funny from the Omaha news last nite.  They were showing an open, empty boxcar on the UP tracks and a layout next to it of frozen turkey, veggies, yams, etc.  The story was how items are shipped by rail, monitored all the way and can even be sent frozen to their destination.  Very nicely done.

Then the camera panned to the r-o-w and showed about 4-5 wild turkeys watching all this take place.  It was a hoot!

So with that I am off to work - and leaving a wish for a Happy Thanksgiving to all of you.  See you next week.

Mookie, hope you and Driver have a wonderful Thanksgiving, and weekend!! Like your story, too!

Making lunch and supper, Chinese Day:  Beef, Special, Pork, and Chicken fried rice day, along with beef teriyaki, wonton soup, watercress, etc.  Hope you all enjoy the change in menu today.  Was trying to think of something we haven't had in awhile, and that's about all I could come up with.

Raining here now, though it seems to be a very light rain, so far.  Supposedly, we even have a slight chance of  severe storms.

Catch you all on the flip side!!

....Just attended an annual Thanksgiving lunch get together in the BWA Experimental Lab here in Muncie....My employment for 37 years.

This one was a bit difficult as it will be our last.

BWA decided, after 105 years.....To move operations.  Seems some will be done in NY and possibly some in Mexico.  Sound familiar.....

It's a bit hard to take driving past the half mile long plant knowing that sometime in 2009 operations here will cease.

Have been retired from it now 14 years....but still the thought of that happening is a bit difficult to take.  Too much of similar happenings all over America is occurring.

For Thanksgiving, I'm thankful I made it all the way through but sorry for employees who will not.  {For retirement}.

Much of the power train product used in F-150 4 by 4's is made here and some GM units too.  Many different power train products have been developed and manufactured here over the many years of operation.

Thanks Joe!  From the # of whistles I heard on the 17th CN sure had a parade of trains SB through Waupaca.  Too bad they were too far from my hunting spot to see them.  I could hear them quite clearly though.  I'm guessing about 25-30 trains all day.  Sure sounded great!

Well, I finally made it back in here.  Sarah and I have been busy preparing things in the kitchen all afternoon, for cooking tomorrow.  I've baked biscuits and cornbread for my dressing/stuffing, and Sarah made cornbread stuffing, also.  Will get up in the morning, and put our turkey *** in the Crock Pot.

Got some more Chinese ready on the warmer bar for tonight.  There's also some beef pepper steak w/rice, included tonight.    While you all eat, and chat, or run the trains, I'll be busy in the Diner kitchen getting everything prepared to start cooking/baking in the morning.  So, just ignore all the noises from the kitchen, o.k?

Dan, glad you made it back safely.  Got anything for us?

Hello!

Just thought I would pop in and wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving! I'll be saying a few extra prayers tonight, thanking God for all of the wonderful things he has given me. My family, friends, a Catholic education, a warm house to live in, good food, and this great country all come to mind.

Looking forward to all of the good food tomorrow! Thanks so much for all the hard work you're doing to prepare Thanksgiving dinner, CW.

My mom and I went shopping for a Nativity Scene for our yard this evening. We got a real nice one with Mary, Joseph, Jesus, the three wise men, a donkey, a cow, and a stable. Should look nice once we get it setup sometime in the next day or two.

With that, I'm heading to bed.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

CW I'm sure I can scare up some extra venison steak/burgers/hotsticks for when they're needed/wanted.  I'll put them in the back of the freezer so they're ready whenever.

Happy early Turkey Day to all.

Just dropping by to wish a Happy Thanksgiving to all.   Been busy getting things tied down for  the winter.  Last chore was getting the snow blower ready to go.  Just in time for our 1st snowfall tonight, but it looks like the driveway is just warm enough to melt.  No problem.  All the best.

Good Thursday morning, and HAPPY THANKSGIVING to everyone!!  Joe, everything looks great in here this morning!!  You've really been working hard this morning.

Think I'll get another cup of coffee, two pancakes, two sausage patties, and some scrambled eggs, then get busy with all this cooking!  Later on this morning, just before noontime, I'll make sure that some cold cuts are laid out for anyone needing a little something to tide them over.  The turkey and all the sides will be ready around  4 p.m. EST (and at our house, probably around 6, 6:30 EST).

Once again, HAPPY THANKSGIVING to everyone!  We all may complain sometime or another, but we all have much to be thankful for today, and every day!!  I know I'm very thankful for all my friends here.

Good morning, and a HAPPY THANKSGIVING to everyone out there! Cherokee Woman is right when she says we have so much to be thankful for. I myself should be counting my blessings; my health is reasonably good, I'm still living in my own home and I am still gainfully employed, just to name a few.

I am getting ready to bake cinnamon bread for my family's Thanksgiving dinner and all of us, I figure about 14 or 15 people, will be gathering at my sister's house for dinner this afternoon

Tomorrow is the traditional beginning of the Christmas season. As much as I would like to send a Christmas card to everyone who reads this forum, I can't do that for the simple reason that I lack a list of names and addresses. But a year ago when I thought about doing this, I was struck with an idea.

My Dad, Ray Loftesness Sr. was a radio broadcaster and musicologist who spent 55 years in the radio and television industry. Dad is best remembered for a Christmas radio program that he put together himself and went on the air with for the first time in 1936. The name of his Christmas radio show was "Holiday Inn". In 1952 the big Holiday Inn hotel corporation filed a lawsuit against my Dad, claiming that he was using their name without their consent. When Dad told the judge that the name "Holiday Inn" was derived from the motion picture "White Christmas" staring Bing Crosby and Bob Hope, he tossed the case out. And my Dad and the Hotel corporation settled out of court with a gentleman's agreement.

Traditionally, Dad would go on the air at noon with Holiday Inn on Thanksgiving, and his two or three hour show would be aired by both KSOO and KELO every day through Christmas Eve. I am going to try to share some of my Dad's material with the rest of the forum members here in the Diner, albeit in printed form, and to do that I am spending a considerable length of time transcribing audio material from a CD to paper. There are two stories that my Dad would tell every year, they are both true, inspiring, heatwarming and heartbreaking as well. I am convinced that my endeavor will take up a lot of space in this forum, but if it generates a few smiles, it will be well worth the effort. This in effect, will be my Christmas card to the rest of you folks out there.

Later, I might be able to dub off cassette tape copies of Vol.1 of Holiday Inn to anyone who might want it.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone out there!!

Ray

....What year did the Holiday Inn folks...{the hotel people}, establish the "name" for their hotel chain....?

I'd like to have 10 bucks for everytime we stayed in one.  In fact, in my avatar pic....If I woud turn my head to the right, and look down about 700 hundred feet I'd see the Holiday Inn Hotel in downtown Johnstown we have stayed in many times.

Best wishes to all on this Thanksgiving day.

PS:  Anyone remember....44 years ago today our President was assassinated.
