Good Morning! The coffee is brewing and the orange juice is ready for pouring. On the menu for breakfast this morning; bacon & scrambled eggs, and eggs done anyway you want them, hash brown potatos. pork sausages, english muffins, waffles & blue berry pancakes with hot maple syrup. Chef [C=:-)]

I hope everyone out there has a good day!

With all of Bergie's restructuring/editting, this place is beginning to look like UP/Jack Casement's "H*ll On Wheels" during construction of the original Transcon. Are there steel wheels and trucks bolted to the floor where the cellar should be?Confused [%-)]

Still in Eisenhower Tunnel in the wee hours of the morning up above 11,000 feet. Ed Berthoud, W.A.H. Loveland et. al. ought to be glad that they never got to build their narrow gauge Colorado Central up through here. Came out of the tunnel twice in the past few days to find it snowing and anything with a windward face coated in snow. Survey total stations (electronic transit w/ electronic distance meters) freeze up in a heartbeat and the optical lens facing the weather gets quickly covered in snow. It's a battle to see every time you turn into the wind. Gives you a new appreciation for all those original railroad location engineers/surveyors and what they endured with their limited means.

Got asked again why we didn't use GPS in the tunnels.Laugh [(-D] Duh!

Thinking about trading in Mountain Dew for some upgraded Jolt.

M C:  I have always wondered about the original engineering and surveyor teams and how they functioned in such climate....And how many times would they have started up the wrong path only to find that route was not possible and had to back track and restart, etc....

Transportation:  I suppose donkey's and back packs on foot.  Accommodations:  At best, tents and dried beans or something of that order....Just don't understand how they really got that job done across the great Rockies at the higher elevations.

Good Evening!

Just thought I'd drop by and say hello since it's been awhile.

Happy Birthday, Dan, even if it is a few days late! Happy B-Day [bday]

School is crazy right now since we're working on term papers in English class. They need to be 4-6 pages typed, double-spaced, APA format, at least five sources. Really not too bad, but some people are making it sound much worse than it is. What will they do once they're in college and have only a day or two to do a similar paper rather than the entire month that we get?

Anyway, I'm off to do some physics homework and then study for an Algebra 2 test.

Dan, Happy B-Day [bday] Happy B-Day [bday] Happy B-Day [bday] Happy B-Day [bday]!!  Sorry I'm late, but hope your birthday was a very, very good one!!  If there's any left, I'll take a slice of your birthday cake.  Not very hungry tonight, so that'll probably fill me up.

Hope everyone has a good evening, and Joe, you all take care, wherever it is you're going!!

Good afternoon to everyone (that is, if anyone's in here).  I managed to fix some lunch for everone:  tuna salad sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, fries, salads and cole slaw.  Everything's set out, so feel free to help yourselves.  I've also made fresh tea and lemonade, and restocked the soft drinks.

You all have a great afternoon, and take care.

....Just an O T subject, but I mention just for the history aspect of it:  50 years ago today, the first Russian Sputnik was put into orbit.....{About the size of a beach ball}.

I remember hearing about it on my car radio...{believe it was a Fri. evening}.  Car was a '57 Corvette.

Oh Quentin. My car was a 1950 Nash that day. LOL

Seems like some folks are afraid to 'come in' the Diner.  Shame, it's nice and friendly in here!

I'll grab a snack and get back to work...love these long days...NOT!

Alas, some folks are just afraid to have a little nonsense in their lives.  We've always enjoyed a little cameraderie here, but some folks just don't like the venue.

Headed for three days on the railroad this weekend.  Fall colors are about gone up there, but we should see some good crowds.  Might run on Monday, too (Columbus Day).  No trainman scheduled, and that makes a long day for a two-man crew.

Agreed on the venue part.

I bet the colors are pretty on the line.  Get some shots if you can, please.

....Spokyone:  A 1950 Nash...One advantage....You probably could make a "bed" in that car.  {Believed they advertised that about that time}....

PS:  There are several pic's of that very car {Corvette}, placed on my U-shaped desk here and a 1:24 model of it....Black and silver.

.....I'll tell you a strange part of how I got that car....Jean {girl friend at that time}, and I headed to Johnstown to do a bit of shopping that day...I really was looking for a pair of pants.....and stopped at the Edsel dealer {recently changed from a GM Dealer}, and the manager had to sell his Corvette as it didn't fit in with the new "Edsel Dealership"....!  So, after finding out about this....I stopped and looked and it was a beauty....Both tops, and all black.  Red interior.  6,000 miles on it.....Don't remember if we ever did get me a pair of pants that day, but I drove that Corvette home.  Traded a very nice '55 red / creme  Bel Aire hardtop with power pac 180 horse engine on it....It was quite a day of shopping.

^~^ OK - If y'all can I can too!

Sometimes I just need a few days to ponder why some people just thrive on being nasty.  Then, being an optimist, I realize that most people are very nice.

So I will have a cup of coffee and a big piece of chocolate cake and make a suggestion....instead of a full menu, maybe just make this a coffee house.  Little coffee and lots of general conversation.  And as Quentin does - it doesn't have to be just about trains.

And speaking of Quentin, do you remember the metropolitan?  Black and white?  Wasn't that a Nash?  Is that the absolute smallest car ever made?

....Good morning everyone.....and yes, J:  The little car you speak of was a Nash...but produced in England and imported here.  I'm not sure of exact era...but I believe it was roughly 1960....I stand corrected, if necessary.

Correction:  '52 to about '61.

When sneaking into a drive in movie, you can get three people in the trunk of a Nash, but only if the first person in doesn't breath....Wink [;)]

Good afternoon!

Hot, humid, and windy here today. Not at all like October is supposed to be. Looks the same tomorrow and then tons of rain on Sunday.

And speaking of tomorrow, I will be visiting Mookie in Lincoln tomorrow morning to do some train watching. Hopefully BNSF will be nice to us!

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Afternoon everyone...

Just got to my parents place from downtown Chicago this morning, managed to find my way around the low bridges and not hit anything with the trailer, though I did have my load shift after a rock box pulled out in front of me yesterday.  Luckily, everything stayed on the pallets, and we didn't break any beer bottles.

Will take some fish fry, if that's what we are having for dinner....

I'll get the perch, haddock, and fries going.  First batch should be up in about 25 minutes and I'll keep it going until everyone's full or I run out of fish, whichever happens first!
