Today in Joliet, I finaly went to the EJ&E yard and saw a CONRAIL, and what looked like something that said "Green Oak." In a different yard in Romeoville, I saw a General Electric, unpatched Santa-Fe, and a fleet of BNSF engines.

Thats odd, on a long Union PAcific train in West Chicago heading west, second to the last car was an old METRA passenger car. On your BNSF train did you happen to catch the number on the car?

There are three of the old orange striped Metra bi-levels now at Burnham shops here in Denver with UP reporting marks (UP 904XXX series). They are mixed in with the RGEX rolling stock and the big hooks on the west side of the shops near Denver Water's HQ.

On Monday I saw the new UP coal hoppers with the "Omaha Route" CMO reporting marks on them. Strange thing was that they were on the BNSF westbound through Louisville, NE.

An abandoned Alco RS 3 in PRR authentic paint, rusting away on a Conrail sideing. It was pretty cool but, it upseat me to see once such a fine locomotive totally trashed. If I had the money I would restore her. This is my first Alco sighting of 2005!!!!!!

Last year, the Utah Transportation Authority (UTA) purchased a number of Metra double deckers in coach and cab car configuration for use on the upcoming "commuter rail" trains. UTA also bought, or leased, the UP shops in the North Salt Lake Yard. Currently, the commuter cars are parked in three rows behind the shops and are visible from the 600 North overpass. A local news station did a story on the Metra cars noting that they were purchased back in the days when businessmen went to work dressed in suits. UTA's commuter rail is scheduled to start in 2007.

Just saw a bit of BNSF motive power in UP's Colton yard in SoCal. I heard BNSF was going to help take some of the load of UP because of track damage from recent storms, but it was still weird to see War Pumpkins and a few old GP35 Blue Bonnets in the yard!

Today I saw on a BNSF line in West Chicago yard york on a line that dead ends from Illinois 38. (Roosevelt rd.) Seeing this is rare because...

1. Their traffic is early in the morning and at night.
2. The railroad line dead-ends just a mile northeast of Roosevelt road.
3. I have been trying since 1999 to see a train on that line.

I saw an unusual colelction run past my house today. Usually when the train goes by there is a GP 38 on either end and a small collection of box cars and covered hoppers in between. Usually a total of 6-10 cars. Very, very rarely you'll see a gondola included. one of the customers must have scrap metal or something that they ship out.

Anyway, today the consist went like this:

GP-38 high nose
4 gondolas
GP 38 high nose
Box car
covered hopper
box car
3 covered hoppers
4 box cars

I've never seen them have the second engine in the middle like that. I assume the gondolas were going to a seperate shipper and the second loco was taking the rest of the cars somewhere else. Just thought I'd share.

The Wisconsin and Southern's Madison Area Local PM Job(MALPM) Brought the thrice a week local into Reedsburg WI last night right about 9:00PM. The Engine was 3806,(Nick-named by engineers the Thirty-Eight-O'-Slip) a GP38, 5 boxcars, and a plastics car. They picked up a Empty Ribside covered hopper from the local co-op, and an empty Centerbeam flatcar from the Lumber company in town. The also moved a few of the 20-odd Plastics cars as the Plastics plant in town around and pulled two empties, before continuing on there way back to the yard(Reedsburg is at the end of a approximately 55 mile branch line).

Last week, I saw an unrepainted, and unrenumbered Rio Grande SD40T-2 leading a UP SD40-2 on a train heading north to Ogden. I've also seen an Erie Western covered hopper in UP's North Salt Lake Yard, and a Rock Island Motor Transit semi trailer in UP's MoW equipment yard in SLC.

On the way downtown this Thursday I saw a N S HiHood Geep. I was driving and just had time to take a quick look. I think the number was N S 3258. It was the second unit in a two unit consists (the first one being a UP unit). They were setting on one leg of the wye getting ready to head northwest to Van Buren/Fort Smith, Arkansas.

Now that the weather is improving in most places we can have many more reports of . . . "Recently I Saw" . . ., and I am looking forward to reading them and hearing what you recently saw. [:)]
