hey, Glen Ellyn what train was UP 3300 on? i was on the UP all day mostly in Rochelle, but i never saw it. Probably went by when i got food. But did you see the forth unit on an eastbound during midday. It was IC&E 363 in NYS&W colors. I got pix of that. Also saw a patched SP and a NS.

I don't think we saw the same train. The one I saw at Whearon Illinois at around 8:00P.M. had a patch CN&W with a normal Union Pacific SD-40, then the third engine was #3300. No other engines. Sorry, but what you saw was pretty cool, but I live where my code name is, and Rochelle is far from here so.....yah.

Could you please post the pix on here, I would like to see them.

What day did you see the train.

...The Surfliner set sitting on Metrolink outside the Burbank AP station... Looks pretty good. The cars were nice and clean. It actually looks better then the Metrolink cars. But I think CalTrain has the best looking sets.

Recently I saw a Metra that looked a little bigger than an F40PH, but smaller than a Metra bullet engine.

Tuesday about 315pm I saw:

UP 4336
BNSF 8286
UP 4887

pulling a intermodal train. It was in from Fort Smith / Van Buran into North Little Rock and changed crews at 12th Street. Then headed up the wye by the yard and elsewhere (probally St. Louis).

This is a UP train with a BNSF warbonnet (and a filthy one at that) so I thought it was a strange train.

Does anyone know if this is a normal routing for intermodal trains? I would have thought it would be more appropriate coming from St. Louis to Dallas. The line from Fort Smith sees "tons" of coal trains [;)] and mixed manifest trains all the time. I have seen intermodal trains on that line just not as many as coal trains or mixed trains.

Metra must be retiring some of the ex-CNW bi-level commuter cars (some date to the mid-1950's). The week before Christmas I saw two of those coaches on a stub track near the interchange point between UP and CP just south of the Metra Clybourn station at Armitage and Ashland on Chicago's north side. I also saw one in the UP yard s. of North Avenue and I-90/94.

i have seen those old RTA "Metra" coaches near Clybourn too. They have been there every so often since mid-summer. Anyone know where they're going. the only two places i can think of, where there is new commuter service starting, the Twin Cities and Nashville.

Thats odd, on a long Union PAcific train in West Chicago heading west, second to the last car was an old METRA passenger car. On your BNSF train did you happen to catch the number on the car?
