Yeah thats what we need everyone carring guns to school that would really solve the problem to me the laws we have are about right in fact maybe a little tighter and this nut wouldn't have had a gun but the toss is he'd found a way anyway the bottom line is it wasn't the guns or the gun manurfacture it goes back to the goverment and us not being tougher on our kids and teaching them right and not slapping there hands or telling them to take a time out as punishment if your going to punish and teach them do something that they learn from and I'm not even trying to hint to beat the Censored [censored] out of them but back to where they learn by example and proper punishment if it means warming at behind so be it if it means no tv for a week or 2 so be it if it means what ever . I see kids too rude today and no disapline at all.

By the way all stress test went fine so wife can relax and stop stressing out

I have to agree with the disipline part. My dad and mom had no problem with tak'in me to the woodshed and they would waylay the devil outta me too!...Sure I'm emotionally scarred from the experience, but then again too, I know where that fine line is and don't dare cross over it even now as a middle aged person...made me appreciate my parents later in life.

The gun carrying thing though. I really think everyone should arm themselves if they are of age. (and no..children should not carry guns even if a columbine occurs but it would have been different if the teachers carried them.)   A fact of life is that there are going to be crazy people out there that will strike when you least expect it. The schools are now "gun and drug free " places. It's an open invitation for a crazy person to start his own turkey shoot if he so chooses.  I don't like it, but it's a cold hard fact and arming one's self even's the odds when the chips are down....chuck

An old livery stable. That would be perfect for your time period.

Evening Gang: Nothing to report since this afternoon. I didn't make it to the basement. We had to take care of the animals and by then it was time for supper and a couple of TV shows.

Right now I'm yawning and should head for bed. Let's see the puter says it's 9:37. Yup time for bed.

Good Night All

Good Evening, Chloe - just a glass of milk for now. Getting ready before long to head for bed, but wanted to drop by. Thanks!

Uh huh, yeah right, PC. Whatever you say. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Garry, I have an (Overton-type?) old time coach car that I'm going to convert into a diner, and I was figuring on hanging a sign out front to honor the ETD. I may use the DPM Carol's Corner Cafe in my downtown street area and call it the Coffee Shop, too. Now, where can I find some twin waitress figures? Preiser got any of those that you folks know about? Haven't decided if I'll have Vinny there too, or not... Whistling [:-^]Whistling [:-^]

RT's right on Elliott - he was (I have heard) very instrumental in getting the Coffee Shop going originally, allowing people to 'check in', talk about MRR'ing stuff, the weather, etc. and just  have a place to hang around.

RT, good to hear that (as we expected) the stress test went well.Thumbs Up [tup]

Actually, I'm not sure Duke can vouch for what happened on New Year's Eve in the old Coffee Shop or not - wasn't he sleeping through it all? Shock [:O] Wink [;)]

Robert, you'll have my prayers on getting the job. How'd you do on salvaging the MR magazines that you were rescuing from the old place that had the fire? Did you get many of them that were readable? Watch your email tomorrow.

David (TrainMaster) - Sign - Welcome [#welcome] back, and stop in as often as you have time and can. Sorry your mother has something out in Colorado she's allergic to. Pretty as the landscape is out there, that's a shame. But better if she doesn't have to sneeze and all that. Remember to stay in touch (either yourself, or through Jeff).

Misting rain here tonight - but nothing like Dick, Ryan and those on the east coast have been getting. Our weather was actually nice for a day or two (until the rain started tonight). Maybe it'll get nice again by the weekend. Hey, I can dream, can't I? Wink [;)]

Time for me to get to bed and catch up on some sleep that the neighbor robbed from me last night. Hopefully, he'll stay put in bed tonight.

Blessings and prayers for those needing them (both in Virginia and for those here in the Diner),

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Good evening,  I think that I will have a large milk with the homemade brownies.

I just thought that I would check in.  I am dragging today after 2 days of fence building.  I'll head to bed early and hope for more energy tomorrow.

I got the cardboard strips in so the next stage will be hard shell around the 2 tunnel portals.  Maybe that will happen on Thursday.

Dick,  Thanks for the tip on Lisa's town.  I hope that they are ok.  Weren't they talking about moving?

Sue

Good evening to all, I guess most of the people are in snooze land now except our friends on the West coast, and Jeff who never seems to sleep ..lol. The winds are still howling outside, rain bands come and go as the strong NE winds carry warm moisture from the Atlantic and dump it all on the land mass.

I picked up a piece of 24"X48" 3/4" plywood at HD this afternoon to use for the lift out gate section. It will not be a rectangle, as it will have an angle on one side to allow for larger radius curve track across the bridge gate.

SUE: They showed the town of Raymond, NH on TV again tonight on the news, the town has been hit hard. No telephone service, roads are washed out, rivers over their banks, trees down, etc. I believe that Lisa is still living there, as I have not heard of her husband accepting the job in CT yet. And, I would imagine that they would not move until the kids are out of school in June even if they did accept the new job.

JEFF: That is going to be quite a hardship on Dave and his mother living so far away from dad still working in CO. I can't imagine with all of todays medicine, that the doctors cannot find what is causing her alergy issues. Sometimes they look at weeds, dust, animals, chemicals, molds etc., but they overlook one other key area...drinking water. If they are on artesian well water, they really need to look at the minerals that are in the rock strata leaching into the drinking water, such as Arsenic, which is more common than most people realize. Anything over 10 ppb is not safe.

FERGIE: Be careful when you are applying CA to your models when the ship rolls. BTW, this big storm will move off to the Northeast slowly by Thursday......I hope you are well north of this bad boy.

RT: So what is the news on the Stress test.....yoga classes?

RYAN: Are you dried out yet?

DER JOHN: Those were good photos of the ocean from your house, the sea looked angry, but it could get worse as the storm moves by NS sometime on Thursday and Friday. How are you going to add all those features into the tower? Take off the roof and use tweezers? I don't think I would have the eyes to do that in "N" scale.

My prayers to the families who lost loved ones at Virginia Tech .......may they find comfort and solice from all of us who share their grief. We lost one student from MA and one from RI.

Good night to all,

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !!  It's been so long since I've been in here, navigating around is a bit....well, lets see if this works-

Jeffrey Wimberly and SilverSpike- 1500 pages for the old Coffee Shop? Wow, pretty good for an old diner sitting by the tracks, eh? It was always a fun place to visit, just like this new grubbery looks to be. And as for going to the link and reading it, some day when I have a year to kill, I might just do that. It was a great place.

JimRCGMO- Amyjo and I decided that with our situation being as it is (me 52 and diabetic, her 34 and a lunatic....scratch that, I meant uhhh, a vivacious sweetheart, yeah, thats it), we would try to travel and make as many memories as possible. Anytime we have a chance to go, we do our best to do it. She wants to Amtrak around the USA too, so we need to work that in somehow.

greyfox and Fergie- No, I didn't fall off the ends of the earth, but none of you really, really   warned me about that honeydo list. Blush [:I]. I would get private mail every now and again from Ed and I'd let him know I was still kicking. Oh, and Fergie, just what DO you know about this end of the earth stuff? Those Flat Earthers really have something, eh? I just knew all along that Roswell thingie was just the tip of the iceberg!

Paul B- Believe it or not, I mentioned you more than once when we were up around Superior. If I remember right, your'e a Boatnerd too? We watched the Roger Blough  lock thru downbound at the Soo and I mentioned to Amyjo that you would enjoy this. And thats the neatest part of this forum, we might never meet, but we all still know each other. As much as I snipe at the internet, I have to admit that is neat.

Ed- So how are the oranges and mangos and papayas and papooses all doing? Hope all are doing great.

On the local front, watched an old NS SD-40-2 (high hood, couldn't see it's number ) pull 63 loaded grain hoppers through town today. All by it's old lonesome self.  Made me feel younger!

Well, better get back to work, my officer is over in another town helping with a possible stolen car, so fun time is over.  Take care all!

He's used to it. His father's been 'on the road' working for as long as he can remember. I can remember times when my own father was stationed in Cambodia and Thailand. They were hardship assignments for him because the family had to stay behind (First time I can remember, we stayed in France, Second time in Virginia. There were other times, but I was too young to remember). I didn't know him. To me he was someone who showed up once in a while. I didn't really start to get to know him until I was 10 or 11, so I know what David's going through too. At least he's had some time with his father that he can remeber during his early childhood. That's more than I had.

Jeff's got the breakfast bar open and I'm buying, so load up boys and girls!

Good Morning, Diners! Zoe, a cup of coffee to go, please, and a go box of the cheese omelots from the breakfast bar, since Jeff's buying!

Garry wrote:

Garry, I need to get a decent camera first. My little (inexpensive) 35mm. camera has become unreliable so I'm having to save up for a digital (instead of getting the pics on CDROM, the quality of which is hit-or-miss with my local film developers). But the diner is mostly complete - light grey roof and trim around the windows/doors, grey deck and steps, and I've made styrene walls for interior dividers on one end (for the storeroom and bathroom). Need to build some kind of base for it (probably will have brick or stone foundation). The body is like this, but different colors (see above):

and without the undercarriage and wheels, of course (unlike our diner). Wink [;)] So it's only sort of like the Diner here...

Got to go for now - paperw**k awaits (be still, my heart!Shock [:O]Dead [xx(]).

Blessings on your day and your endeavors,

RT, I agree 200% with what you said. Kids need discipline and to show more respect for themselves and others.

BTW, glad to hear the stress test went well!

Salt water is heavier and sinks, fresh water stays at the surface, so enough fresh water can, nad has in the far past, shut down the Conveyor with drastic results. I guess you won't have any great pics of bergs and landscape from the high Arctic anymore huh?  And you have a short memory laddie....at last New Year's party in the olde Coffee Shop, it was "you" and "Flip" and "Ed" dancing on top of the tables that really got us all in trouble!!!! Right Ryan, Mike, Paul, PC, RT, Jeff, Duke, Jim, Bill, Sue, Chuck, Kathy, Garry,JP, J.R., Luc and Der John? No Colby, you were not there...you were too young remember?

Yea, we are about dried to the bone now! My skin was so dry last night with the 10% humidity for the past few days I had to take an oatmeal bath for an hour.....

Hey Der John! When you going to invite us up to your place? That back yard view is just great, and I bet the sunrise views are spectacular!

Sorry but your comment does not make any sense at all . The main point is you should be able to go to school without thinking about something like.

Jim...Thanks for the idea..I think i am going to put a Dinner on my layout..Maybe we should think about franchising it?

Gary....Yes I like DPM stuff I built a bunch in HO when they first came out and have done 3 in N scale with plans to do 3 or 4 more...I don't think you can beat them for detail and easy construction...Painting makes or brakes them I think...

Robert.....Prayers that you get the job....

PC....Building would make a great scratch built...Maybe could use Walthers or DPM moduals?

Hey, Ryan, take care in building that one - I built it for our club's layout and it is tricky. Rounded corners and bases. Take your time and use several clamps to help hold stuff in place while the glue's drying. It'll look neat with a (sandpaper) 'gravel' roof on the rooftops, and use some of the signs included. But no square corners makes it a bit more difficult than regular, square-cornered bases and wall joints buildings are.

Jim,

Thanks for the tips on the rounded corners and the sand paper roof is a great idea too! Always nice to get a few "insider" tips when it comes to building up some models.

Hey, PC those ribs do look good!

Good afternoon everyone, still a chilly 39F, cloudy, drizzley day here today, but the good news is that now they say we might see the sun tomorrow!!! One day early!! And, the temps will hit 70F by Sunday and Monday...now watch the grass take off and leaves come out on the trees!

The bad news is, 250,000 people are still without power from this storm, 7 people have died due to the storm, several homes have been claimed by the Atlantic ocean, and many millions of dollars damage to sea walls, homes, roads, bridges etc.

Today, I went to that place that all of you love to visit.......NO not a LHS...the Dentist!! It was supposed to be to removed a partial bridge and install a new one on another tooth that was stronger. However, when the gold cap was removed, the silver filling underneith was loose. So, after removing that old filling, the tooth was now down to near the gum line with only a small post remaining, way to small to hold the bridge. So, now he had to go to the last molar, prepare that to take the end of the bridge, build up the old tooth, make impressions for the new bridge.....and 2 1/2 hours later I am home with a very sore jaw. And don't even ask about the price for this...and on fixed income too.

INDY PHIL: So you say we never warned you about the infamous "Honey Do" jar when in retirement? So....where have you been? Certainly not in the old Coffey Shop or this new Diner, for we have all been anguishing over that jar ...just ask Der John, Luc, Paul, me, etc. Good to have you back.....now all we need to do is get ED to re-appear, I think he hopped a freight out of Mexico City headed for Copper Canyon.

RYAN: Man, with all this rain up and down the coast, how can you possibly have 10% Rh???Is your guage broken?? If your skin is too dry, rub in some olive oil.

COLBY: I know that you feel that vests would be a possible answer, but what we need to do is solve the root cause of the problem. Young people should not have to worry about being killed at school...end of story. Today, too many people are "de-sensitized" by all the violence on TV and especially the video games that glamorize the wrong things in life. Then, back in the late 60 and 70's we had Dr. Spock who had all the answers to raising children...don't slap their butts when they really needed it, it will hurt their character...well...his very own son commited suicide, so much for his expertise right? It comes down to teaching children the three "R", and this time I don't mean Reading, 'Riting, and 'Rithmatic, but rather.. Respect for God, Respect for Others, Respect for Yourself. People no longer know how to respect others, because they live in a world unto themselves, in TV, Video games, PC. They do not meet, talk to each other face to face, interact together anywhere near enough. Volunteering for projects like Habitat for Humanity, or the Peace Corp ( if it is still in existance) is what every single young person should have to join for two years before college....we would soon have a very different generation of young adults. Service to others is the greatest teacher in the world Colby.

Good Afternoon All,

Can't believe it's Weds already. When last I wrote everything was sorta under control. By Monday am, my basement had some water but the shop had water flowing out the front door. One wall is built into an earth bank and the rain (around 8" overnight Sunday) ran down the street, over the curb and flooded through the gap between the floor and wall where the building has settled slightly. 3" of water along the back wall (in the machining and welding area of course) and some under the electric mains and breaker boxes. Fortunately we ceased using the floor outlets some years ago. It's all cleaned up now and seems small potatoes compared to other areas and the tragedy at VT. Just trying to catch up with jobs again  Everytime we get close something like this rain seems to happen. Hope the rest of you are well.   CUL, J.R.

Hello Everybody ...

How about a bowl of burgoo, please.  Thanks.

If your interested, I posted in Trains Forum a link to an article about a planned Bering Strait Tunnel.   I'm not planning to model such a thing on my layout, however.

Cheers.

Hi Gang: I just got set up on broadband. Yes it is great. I next have to get my E-mail set up and change out my address. I could stay with PeoplePC but after the way have been I think not.

Philnrunt: Thanks for thinking about me while you were up at the soo. Yes I'm a boatnerd. I was born and raised on the west side of lake Michigan in Milwaukee Wisc. I miss the lakes but I'm married to Texas.

I'm going to cut out and see if I can line up an E-mail account. Take care.

Evening Gang: I don't believe this. I posted at 5:45 and it's now 9:15 and no one has been in. Since I walked in the front door I know it's not locked. Where is everyone?

I haven't made E-mail arrangements yet. Mary Ann and I went to supper and then spent the rest of the evening looking for a day old calf. It's mother had hidden it in the pasture and didn't get it when we got the cattle out. Mary Ann finally found it on the second time we searched the pasture. Banged Head [banghead] I just have to keep telling myself " Ranchng is fun" repeat often.

No MRRing today just house cleaning and puter work. It took 3 hours to get microsoft SP2 loaded and then loading and setting up the broadband. It is fast. I can now download photos without having to take half a day. Really nice.

Well I guess I'll head out and see what else is going on.

Good Night All
