Jim,  Sorry about the weather.  The only rain that we have had would be occasional showers.  Today it is in the low 60's, and they are calling for rain showers Saturday and Sunday.  Which means that it might rain.  I seeded the pasture yesterday so we are probably in for a dry spell.

Derrick,  What is on the lowboy?  It looks like something for a power plant.  Cool photo.

Mark,  Where is your LHS?  We are always looking for a new find.  There are 2 that we have shopped at in Portland.

Well, Larry wants to go for a motorcycle ride before the rain starts this weekend. Later.

Sue

Good Evening, Chloe and Zoe - I see you're both working the party tonight, huh? Is Janie coming by to help, too? Oh here, I brought three dishes full of the stroganoff - I know what chowhounds this crew can be. Shock [:O]Dinner [dinner]

Let me look over the table with everything else we have, so I can pace myself. Don't want to eat too much and end up sleeping under the corner booth (like someone did at the last party...).Whistling [:-^]Whistling [:-^]

Hey, Sue, I got a shop to make us up some coffee mugs for the party - take a look! Do you like the white ones:

or the blue ones better?

I think on tonight's weather that they were saying the rain was going to take some time to work its way here - Sunday night at the earliest. So at least, we'll have a good weekend first. Yeah!! [yeah]

...your MESS(tm), Fergie? Wink [;)] I don't envy you the swells, not one bit! Good that your ship is extra-sturdy for sea duty. Take care of yourself (and the locos you're working on), and bring 'em all back in one piece, y'hear?

PC, that chili looks pretty good, except for the peppers. They tend to 'talk back' an hour or two after I've eaten them, and I'm burpin' and tastin' them again.

Derrick, that low boy looks nice - of course that means you can justify a low-boy flat car for it to get to the trucking depot, right? You probably could also get a crane to offload it to the trailer, too.

Hey Trent - what've you been up to lately? How's the party room at work been coming along?

Hoople, hang in there - your loco is coming soon (we hope). And don't believe Dick, he's just foolin' with you...

Chloe, I think I'd better have one of those longer plates, after looking at all the goodies. I'll take a cup of coffee in one of those white mugs, and a glass of Zinfadel, please. Thanks!

I'll take my (first) platter and be chowing down over in the corner booth, if anyone wants to find me. I'm looking forward to some of those ribs, too. Who brought those, or did you gals cook them?

Blessings and a good appetite (and the twins said to stay off the chandalier this time),

Good evening everyone, I hope everyone had a great Friday. I amanged to get 90% of my outside project #1 done today. We have a stepped, three tier garden in the back of the house, and it is right against the hillside behind the family room addition set into this hillside. So..we had too much water collecting in the lower level against the foundation, and that is a recipe for disaster with flooding rains. So I dug a 45 foot trench, starting at the north side, all along the west side, and returning 12 feet along the south side, pitched at 1/4" per 10 feet, and installed 4 surface drains at even intervals to drain all this into the main perimeter pipe. A little sore tonight as the fingers cramp up from having been wrapped around the shovel all day. So, we eat a few bananas for potassium replacement, 4 gator aids and where all set.

JEFF: I saw the website the first time, but I thought it was for something else, so I checked it out..man that is one disaster for people with Diabetes....but does it even look good....I can eat it, but my CH will go through the roof.

SUE: I was just watching the local TV news out of Boston, and Raymond, NH where Lisa lives , has no phones and will not have any for at least 2 weeks. It showed the main Verizon Telephone switch office, and the water came up about 3 feet from floor level into all the electronics. Much of the gear is ruined. Maybe we can get PC to come here with his gang to help out. Raymond was hit real hard, FEMA is there now.

FERGIE: Can you get some photos of those 20 foot + waves breaking over the bow? Or is on-deck restricted because of the rough seas? Can you find out what the scientist are checking data for? I am suspect that they are checking for water temp at various levels, and the salinity at these levels as well. Did you see what I wrote to John in my previous post about the very large house move in Nova Scotia that was on the History Channel last night? Do you remember this incident ?

HOOPLE: No I'm not...don't believe JIM !!

Evening all -

Sorry I have not been in the 'shop' as of late, but I've been working 12-14hr days since Monday the 7th and today was my 1st day off. I did some errands today, and went to mom and dad's for a nice bbq'd steak dinner w/ Bush's Beans and mom's homemade potato salad...YUM! Tomorrow is clean the apartment day and Sunday is laundry and pack day for my 2-week trip on Monday to New Orleans.

Well all, if I do not stop in before hand, take care and I'll see everyone sometime the week of May 10th.

Hunter - When we met in January of 2000, you were just a 6 week old pup who walked his way into this heart of mine as the only runt in the litter who would come over to me. And today, I sit here and tell you I am sorry we had to put you down. It was the best thing for you and also the right thing to do. May you now rest in peace and comfort. Love, Dad. 8 June 2010

I love you and miss you Mom. Say hi to everyone up there for me. Rest in peace and comfort. Love, John. 29 March 2017

Good evening Diners! Despite PC’s elegant chili, I’ll have the mushroom omelet please Zoe, but with tomato and ham as well, if that’s not going to cut too deeply into Sue’s mrr cash, thanks.

A sunny day today, and it’s said to be set like this through Sunday. Got some outside chores seen to while Kris took her mom shopping in New Glasgow. They came back earlier than expected, shoot, I hadn’t even finished watching Daily Planet!

Thanks for the encouraging words on the tower and the colour scheme.

By CapeJim…Have you thought about some contrasting color for window and door trim for a little more snap? (Just my preferences showing there...)
…That would have to be the blue, if I did it. I’ll probably stick to the white, but may try some blue window frames some time to see what they look like. Anyway, enough of buildings for a while; I think now I’ll get back to the rock castings and tackle more of the long rock face at the far end of the room. Project “Blue Foam Cover-up” must continue.

Dick:

I was watching the HISTORY CHANNEL tonight, and they were showing three extremely difficult house moves, one of which was in Nova Scotia. A woman wanted to move her very nice old home to a place 20 miles away that had much more land from the city/town location where she presently lived. They had to break the house into 4 pieces to make the move because of overhead wires, etc. During the move, the crane lost it's brakes ( not loaded yet ) and slowly rolled down this street, knocking down telephone poles and the driver finally was able to stop the rig by slamming into a RR overpass. They really had to hustle the move afterwards because a hurricane was coming. I was wondering if you remember this event?
…Yes indeed. It was in New Glasgow, and if the crane hadn’t hit the rail bridge, it would likely have ended up in the river! Did they show the rail bridge? I can take pics if you are interested. It’s quite the hill, with cross traffic too. What the news reports didn’t mention was the house move in 4 parts.

I see from the latest MR e mail that Woodlnd Scenics have an N Scale redibuilt “Filler up and Fixer” country service station. I’ve a place for that, as the style is almost timeless. We have one in Sheet Harbour very much the same, and there used to be one up to last year in Port Dufferin, just down the road. Need to modernize the gas pumps, and change the sign from what looks like Philips to Esso.

Mark:

That stinks. My LHS is VERY local. Its within walking distance,
…how about 72 miles for the lower end one, and another 5 or so to the better one?

Derrick: That is one nice transporter. The lights are too ! Is the model plugged in to the road? I’ve been thinking that small audio plugs under buildings, signals and larger vehicles, might be a way to power lights.

all, and God Bless. Prayers for all in need of healing, comfort and peace.Angel [angel]

Evening Gang:

Der: Nice looking interlocking tower. You did a very good job of getting the dimensions from the photo. That ain't easy as I know too well.

I went out to John's ranch and we got the ties on the first crossing finished. We also hauled some of the gravel needed to build the road up to the crossing. I pooped out at 4pm but John kept working. He's going out again tomorrow but I don't know if I will. He really wore me out today.

JimCG: We are supposed to get some more rain about tuesday and wednesday. I've got things to do in the feilds but they are still to soggy so I'll have to put it off again. We need the rain so I can't complain.

JR: I hope that you have some pneumatic tampers. It's bad enough tamping 7.5 inch gauge. I built a pneumatic tamper for my railroad. It really saves alot of work and does a better job.

Well I'm going to hit the sack. I'll see you all tomorrow.

Good Night All

Goodness, Zoe & Chloe, where is everybody - under the tables? It's been way too quiet tonight, and if more don't show up, we'll have to save all that food in the fridge for tomorrow. Shock [:O]

Paul, hope things get dried out enough before too long, so you can get that outside work done. Like you said, at least you need it.

So JP, is your New Orleans trip for work, or for yourself this time? After working 12-14 days, the trip will seem like a vacation by comparison. Hope you have a good trip.

Dick, sorry to hear that Lisa's area got soaked so badly (no pun intended). Anyone heard from her?

DerJohn, good that you got your outside stuff mostly done. Best wishes with your blue foam coverup project - almost sounds like a political scandal or something! Wink [;)] Oh, on the Woodland Scenics gas station, I've seen the HO scale one, and it's a pretty good one with nice detailing. I think you'll like it - as you said, it'll fit a variety of time periods.

Well, Zoe, almost looks like you and Chloe could draw straws for who gets to stay and cover the rest of the night (once you get the extra food put away in the fridge). Guess the rest are out pre-partying and will be in after a while (filled to the gills, so to speak?).Whistling [:-^]Whistling [:-^]

Hope everyone gets a good night's sleep and all is well with all of you.

Blessings and a Good Night,

Good evening, stoped in for last coffee before heading off to bed.

DER JOHN: Yes, they did show the bridge. In fact, they showed the workers trying to run down the hill and place wood ties in front of the rear wheels, but the truck just ran right over them. It showed the steep hill, the cross roads, and all the telephone poles being taken out and wires falling to the ground. It also showed the driver taking the crane purposely into the left side of the RR bridge to stop the crane. They also showed how they cut the house in 4's, and the tough time going under the highway bridge that had a clearance of 16'-1" and the loaded truck clearance was 16'-2"....they performed quite a move to get under that bridge. They repeat these programs on the History Channel, try to catch it.

JIM: I have not heard from Lisa in a while, and I don't believe that SUE has either. If she is near the river, her house is in trouble, this was a 100 year storm in her part of NH.

Hey, Mike, glad to help you get some LHS money! Smile [:)]

Hey, PC, I eat stuff with peppers sometimes (just not the jalapeño ones Shock [:O] ). But I still get the burps and usually (re-)taste 'em.

The sun's coming up in Cape G., 44 F and 89 percent RH, no wind right now, but with the high temp predicted to go to 78 F today. 'Nuther nice day here! I'm sure I will hear some lawn mowers when I'm driving around today.Wink [;)]

Got to get back to that apartment hunting (and getting the deposit together)! Got reminded last night of why I don't want to be here. About 10'ish p.m. (at least I was still up), I hear the upstairs neighbor and kids coming up the back stairs like:

but they managed to get settled down. But next door was another matter - heard some gal screaming at someone (maybe the neighbor who lives there)... (I won't repeat it, since we try to run a family-friendly forum here) The party was still going about 1:30, even after I had pounded on the wall a couple of different times. I almost called the police to complain (maybe should've). Yep, need to get back on the apartment hunt. (Now, if I could have a radio right up against that wall, and turn it all the way up..Evil [}:)] )

Need to get breakfast finished up and go haul my laundry over to the laundromat and get it done. Then I can get away from here most of the rest of the day.

Hope everyone can get some MRR'ing time in today, as well as get outside if your weather is as good as ours here. Even Fergie's got better weather today!

Blessings and prayers,

Good Morning All,

Sunny and 34F this morning, but the predicted high is 75. Waiting for the crew to arrive here at the shop so I can get over to the museum. Cleaned off the last section of layout and started marking out streets and mocking up building locations so I can run the rest of my sidings. As usual my superior planning has a switch in the middle of a road so some track revision may be in order.

Fergie - does the MOSH inspection take place in the engine room? Would the inspection of the enclosure for the motors make it a MOSH pit inspection? Inquiring minds want to know. If I can find and copy the slide, I have a shot of waves breaking over our flight deck on the Hancock, or was it the Saratoga - in any event it's over 90ft above sea level normally.  At any rate I don't envy you on station in all those swells.

Time to make like the trees and leave.   CUL, J.R.

Hello.

Now that I have cool down a bit - Gloria's test did not show any blockages or damage to the heart but the blood tests all indicate that she has had many heart attacks, she was sent home and told to see our family MD for further investigation.  The hospital promptly sent her report to a different doctor...    She feels like she's been told that all this is her head and you don't want to know how I feel....

We had a very special visitor yesterday, our great grand daughter.

Hope you have a great day

Hey Luc

Anytime Dad goes to the Emergency they always come back to me and tell me he's had another Heart Attack and I say "Is this finding due to his blood work?" to which thet reply "Yes" and I say "are you aware he suffers from renal failure?" to which they hem and haw and then haul out the previous readouts to see if the EKG is different from the last time to which they say is the same". Not sure if this applies to Gloe but if you have a renal failure or poor functioning kidneys the body has a very difficult time ridding itself of the enzyme created by a heart attack and which can stay in your system for months.

Just a thought...

Fergie

Hunter - When we met in January of 2000, you were just a 6 week old pup who walked his way into this heart of mine as the only runt in the litter who would come over to me. And today, I sit here and tell you I am sorry we had to put you down. It was the best thing for you and also the right thing to do. May you now rest in peace and comfort. Love, Dad. 8 June 2010

I love you and miss you Mom. Say hi to everyone up there for me. Rest in peace and comfort. Love, John. 29 March 2017

Since Jerry is buying, I'll have a bowl of that wonderful chili.

That looks real good. Too bad I went out for lunch.

Jeffrey:  Looks like you've been busy while I was out...... Did I miss the party?

Congrats on your 4000+, but then who's counting anyway.

That's looking pretty good there, Jeffery. I hope the F unit is a Stewart, to push that 1 gallon water tank off the ROW.

Good afternoon sports fans,

Yup, I figured it's about time I made an appearance here in the new version of the Coffee Shop instead of just lurking in the shadows.  I do appreciate that a number of you have been asking about me.  Nice to be remembered.

I have, as derJohn reported, been having some computer problems at home.  Mainly there are about 25% of the sites I normally visit that I can't access for some reason.  That includes Hotmail, which means I can't send or receive emails at home, bummer!  I suspect it's some sort of settings problem, but it's beyond my meager computer skills to figure it out, and I'm still searching for a computer guru to help.  By the time I decided to drop by here and report in, the computer decided it didn't recognize me at this site.  But I couldn't access the login page, so I could read but not post.  Today, by some miracle (possibly tied to last night's Boston Red Sox victory over the hated Yankees?), the computer and the site decided that they did after all know who I was.  So I figured I ought to take advantage of the moment and post something quick.

The orange crop this year was pretty good.  It's just ending now.  We sold about 18 tons (metric) of fruit, and consumed a bunch more at the house.  Yeah, the FCVN did keep up shipments to The Coffee Shop, hope thay arrived okay.

We've done a lot of traveling.  The most recent trip was a 17 day, 4,000 km round trip to Chihuahua, mainly to ride on the train through the Copper Canyon.  Even more spectacular than I expected.  Photos don't do it justice.  We spent part of three days on the train, and a bit more railfanning.  I am gradually posting my photos over on Rail Images, and have a thread going (that I add to from day to day) chronicling the trip that you can see on TrainBoard at:

http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/showthread.php?t=87843

We're off to the states next week.  Going up to the annual reunion of old timers from my old company, probably a visit to my (not so Local) Hobby Shop, and getting to see the new grandson.  So I may not be posting back here much in the near future, but will be back.

Zero progress on the layout.  I'm trying to get reanimated.  Too much "mañana factor" down here I'm afraid.

Well I was impressed, and pleased.  But you already knew that.

Later (if the computer remembers who I am)

I wish I could afford a Stewart F7. That's an Athearn in the pic there. Would you believe it runs as quiet as an Atlas?

Good afternoon, Janie - Let me have a root beer float, some of that chili that Jeff had earlier (if you still have some in the pot)... oh, yeah, and the TUMS bottle, please. Laugh [(-D]

JP, I assume you'll be checking with Ryan and other sources for where the (remaining) LHS'es are in the N.O. area, right? You want to make that a productive trip, I'm sure.Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Dick / Ed - How 'bout them Red Sox? Cool [8D]Yeah!! [yeah]Bow [bow]

From that, I would assume the Red Sox did well? Wink [;)] Oh, I see from Ed's post that they did (as if there were any doubt, JP!).

Ed, good to hear from you again, and sorry to hear that your computer apparently was engineered by Homeland Security. Shock [:O] Did your previous computer guru move out of your area? I was thinking you'd had one a while back. Guess if all else fails, you could call to a computer place near your daughter's in TX and schedule an appointment to drag your computer there to be fixed. Hope the 'puter at least develops a better memory of who you are, in the meantime. Can you feed it some of that ginko biloba? Wink [;)]

Jeff, that engine repair shop scene looks great already - I now know where my (non-working) 0-6-0T will be going...

Gorgeous afternoon here - I went by Hobby Lobby and used their website's 40 percent off coupon for some more WS trees, and also went by the LHS (the one that is the arts & crafts and Thomas trains place) and also picked up a Kalmbach book on airbrushing and weathering, plus a Plastruct ladder package. The co-owner said they needed to order some more books in for me. (I think I might be their best book customer) I told her I'd give them a list of what I have already, so they don't get duplicates. Wink [;)] I almost got an Accurail Cotton Belt boxcar, but didn't 'cause I already have several of them (from Accurail and other manufacturers). I also almost bought the WS corner module at Hobby Lobby, but with the discount it still would've been about $90, which was more than I wanted to spend for now.

Still need to go by Penney's and get another pair of pants for work (and maybe another short-sleeve shirt, as I'm a little lean on choices for those). Then home and see about some soldering. Now, how did Fergie teach us to do the soldering?Evil [}:)]Whistling [:-^]Whistling [:-^]

Hope everyone's having some fun this afternoon and enjoying the nice weather outside. Think I'll go finish up my errands for the day.(urrrrpppp!) What was that? Whistling [:-^]

Blessings and some sunshine on your weekend,

Jim in (SunnyCool [8D] Cape Girardeau
