I've been working on my layout, and I'm changing the look of my layout once again. going for the classic oval with a yard for the engines and a siding for the cars.

Did you order it from Walther's? Let me tell you a little story. Back in September I ordered a Bachmann DCC onboard GP35 (Conrail), on sale for $30-odd. It remained on sale and showing in stock at Walther's website AND in their catalogs almost the whole time I've been waiting. It finally came in at the LHS Friday (just this last Friday, the 13th) and they wanted full price ($60) for it. They claimed it had been on back-order all that time (7 months and some days?)! Come on! Give me a break!! I wasn't born yesterday! I bet they sat on it until it went off sale then sent it through along with a bunch of others, marked for full price. The clerk at the LHS griped them out about it, because he already knew that if they tried that stunt I wasn't going to accept it and it would be sent back. They finally relented and dropped the price to $45. I'll accept that. Seems strange to me though how they had none to send the whole time it was on sale and then they suddenly have a bunch the instant it goes back to regular retail price. I was born at night but it wasn't in the dark! They keep this up and I'll take my business elsewhere.

Well good evening Gents,

I actually had a decent weekend. I knew that trains could take the edge off my grief somewhat.

Lots of great food, Mom is one heck of a cook, Italian and Syrian dishes.

Pretty much spent the weekend staging shots w/ my daughter taking the pics. First time for posting any of these in all the years on the forum.

Another first is, I see that I made it to the 10 most wanted list (most active). So that's what you guys do with all your time.

You know, you may have created a monster here. Good thing the battery died on the D70 after 28 pics.

I really appreiciate all the kind thoughts and words, It really does help.

Thank You,

Good evening.  I am thinking that a rootbeer float sounds great.

I got all the posts in the ground and got wire on the short section of my fence.  I should be able to finish the wire tomorrow.

Back to the layout.

Good Evening All,

A nice cabernet will do me a treat just now. Got all the lower level that's in wired up and checked. So far so good. I do have one switch giving me a problem (at the back of course) but I'll get to that tomorrow. Only other problem so far is the 44 tonner won't pull more than 4 boxcars up the incline without spinning wheels. Oh yeah that's right - they wouldn't do that as 1/1 either. I remember seeing pics of the Boston street railway with double 44's hauling four boxcars down the street (probably loaded with crying towels for the Red Sox game, no?Evil [}:)]).

Tomorrow I'll have an extra day off so I've planned a major cleaning, then some running. Need to tune up the track, etc.

Jeff - you have mentioned in the past using gleem to polish your rail tops. How does that affect traction ? Do you have any grades to pull on your layout or do you know of any effect the polish has when climbing is involved?

Hope the rest of you have had a good evening - or afternoon for Sue and Hoople. Time to get back to it.  J.R.

Hello all. It's me, Rob...I had forgotten my password. So, I had to create a new name. What has everyone been up to? Things have been busy around here for me. My mom had one of the bypass arteries opened and had her right big toe removed. Then, my uncle passed away. I haven't really had much time for mrr'ing.

until later, Robert

Let me put it this way. I grabbed hold of two of my E units that were running in consist and them things tried to pull me around the layout with them. The traction is super.

Hello again.

Some of the conversations earlier pertained to scenry.  So, if you don't mind, I'll show some pix and briefly descibe how I make my rock strata.

Top photo shows rock cut along with two retaining walls (one of concrete; one of cut stone.  Middle photo shows rocks next to my county park. (Volleyball game never ends.)

Third photo shows section without scenery to the right. You can kind of see my rock strata in progress.

I use the broken plaster method. I make a big sheet of plaster in a large flat "pan" (aluminum foil in plywood frame). I try to keep it 1/8" to 1/4" thick. If it's thicker, however, I still use it. Then I break it into pieces. I "pancake" the pieces on top of each other and use construction adhesive to hold it together. Later, I fill the gaps with cheap, light-weight spackling compound while spraying with detergent water to smooth it out. While it's wet, I smooth it with my fingers. After drying, I apply very thin coats of water-based paint. Then apply scenery materials such as Woodland Scenics stuff.

That's it.

Happy Model Railroading.

Good morning.  I thought I stop by for coffee before I head out to finish the fence.  If I get with it, I might finish before it starts raining.

Garry, I like the NP semi trailer.  Does the tractor say NP as well?

Hey Guys,

I'm not dead or anything, just in case you were wondering where I've been, I've been busy lately, though.

Jeff- Thanks so much for the powerpack, it's the exact one I wanted, and it works GREAT.

Everybody-  The old layout I bought a while ago has some track issues that I can't really fix without taking the whole thing up, so while I'm going to be doing that, I figured I might just as well make a whole different layout. I have one all planned out, and I'm almost ready to take the track up, so, my question is, how do I remove the track from the plywood table. except for the switches, which are sectional,  the whole thing is OLD (From the 70's!) flex track.

Good Morning all from the windswept rainsoaked South Shore of Boston.

Had a cup this morning on the porch and watched everthing flying around. Gusts must have surpassed full gale at times. Seems to be letting up now.

The storm is the typical N'oreaster we see around here. Don't know the flooding / damage yet.

My basement usually stays dry- hope everyone else comes out alright.

Sounds like everyone had a productive weekend.

Sue:     What fence posts are you working on-Model or 1:1 scale?

Hoople: Have I missed something about the Cereal/ I love choclate milk thing?

Phil:      How's your new 4 legged family member doing?

Jeff:      Did you ever get into any of the scenery? Or still messing w/ the roads. Gota love               those Es, One unit will outpull even 2 of my Stewart/ Kato Fs.

Rob:       Sorry about all your mom is going through.

Jim:        Sounds like your club layout should be close to continuous running.

GMT:       Did you try the suspended pony keg for the blimp?

Well since not going to work today, Have no idea how the Boston Marathon will go, I don't want to go anywhere near the city. My next job is in Cambridge (the fine Republic of:)

I can smell the aroma of lentil soup simmering on the stove-should be a great lunch.

Have a great day

1:1 scale.  This is a fence on the lower pasture.  I need to get it done while the ground is still soft, but dry enough to get the tractor in and out.  I try to get most of the fence building done while my husband in on the road, and save the projects for him that I can't manage by myself.  It is getting harder to make myself do outside work since we started out current layout Christmas of 2005.  Lazy..........

I will check back around lunch time for some of that lentil soup. Or if I get rained out first.

Good morning ladies and gents!

Coffee and a donut please Chloe! Thanks!

Jeff, sorry that bananas are not included in your diet, how about Cherries?

Hey PC, I'm going to have to lay off the pie for few days, that blueberry facial does wonders for the complexion however. Oh, and cute doggie!

Dick, I did sleep in on Saturday! And then the rains came, and stayed, and stayed, and went, and came back, and stayed again, then left, then came again...and 4 inches of rain later. Now we might start to dry out a bit.

Garry, a 42" plasma for only $10.00 WOW! Congratulations! Red Velvet cake huh........ Oh boy, one of my favorite cakes.... YUM!

Bob, sounds like you have a great support group, and glad to hear that your mom is there too!  So I have to ask, what's squash a-la Syrian style (a family favorite)?

J.R., nice pics of the layout, looking good!

Robert, sorry about your uncle and hope mom is doing better now!

Paul, glad the net is back up for you!

Later,

Good Morning.........

Yes, I'll have a Tim Horton's coffee......thanks luc....  how's Gloria, luc?

Don't get too soaked..........all you on the east coast.  Sunny here should get close to 70 F today. ............uh oh..... might have outside stuff to do.  Already planning to go to town today to get a cable needed to hook up a new TV at another side of the TV room from where the older TV is located. Such a problem!!!

BTW.... at the time we bought the TV raffle tickets, Shelley told the guy:  "We are buying the winning ticket plus two others that will be our donation."  Such humor.

What are your favorite railroad videos, everybody?

Sue posted she's working on posts ............ is pearl out "helping" with fence work and getting muddy again? Glad you like the NP piggyback trailer.  The tractor is Burlington.  Did you like the P2K 0-8-0 switcher?  BTW, why does Larry make you do all the posting?...... enjoy your posts here, but his thoughts are welcome. I've got a couple of other locos you might like seeing.  Not one the one I sold (a brass HO logging engine) a couple of years ago for about $1300 on ebay.

Actually, I worked on the layout a bit over the weekend. Wiring and maintenance again.

Time to hustle my caboose.

Happy Model Railroading!

Can't eat cherries either. It's something to do with the way the potasium interacts with other things found in both bananas and cherries. Strawberries bother me some too.

Ryan,

Syrian squash is like a stuffed pepper. It's called Koosha, origionally made with lamb/ rice and stuffed into a hollowed yellow summer squash. Now it is generally done w/ 80/85% ground beef, rice, seasoning and tomato sauce. The squash is halved and scouped out the "meatball' mix is stuffed and covered w/ the seasoned sauce. Bake and enjoy.  Are you hungry yet?

Jerry:   No layout in my basement, but it does resemble a lumber yard, tool crib, and a hobby shop besides my regular work bench. So far so dry.

Jeff:   Have you thought of adding dye to the Sheetrock mix before mixing, saves from hiding all those pesky white spots when doing the final scenery?

My Lentil soup is on the table,

Chow......

Chow......

HELLO!!!! Soups on....................No stampedin' now!!!!   Hey, I was first in line.....
