Grayfox: It's already in the mid-70's here, which is cool to us. At the height of the summer the temps usually top 100F but mostly stay around the mid to high 90's with humidity levels that could drown a mosquito in flight. It probably gets a little higher where you are.

Mark
You think that's something, I ordered a Bachmann GP35 (Conrail) form Walther's last fall. It still hasn't come in. Walther's says it's on back order yet when I check their site it says 'in stock'! I ordered it when it was on sale for $36. They normally run about $60. If Walther's finally sends it through and tries charging regular price for it things are going to get really ugly really fast.

Well, tonight we'll be having the stuffed pepper and squash a-la Syrian style (a family favorite)

Just got back from the club with some nice pics. There were a few of the regulars wacthing some DVDs, Some Chessie stuff wouldn't you know. I rushed my daughter out of the house and didn't have a spare battery. Only got about a dozen pics.  Will try to figure how to post them. Later tonight, we'll go back and stage some more shots.

So her goes-- If we have any trouble I'll post out on the board for help.

Later...

My GP35 came in at the LHS yesterday. I spoke to the owner today. He said Walther's did indeed want full price for it. I had already told him a month or two ago that if they tried that and wouldn't back off on the price that they were going to get it back. They sent it through with a price tag of $60 on it. The LHS owner called them and griped them out about it and they finally relented and backed the price down to $45. That's acceptable. I'll go pick it up on my next trip to Alexandria.

Evening All: Well it's been 3 days since I gould get in the diner. Peoplepc would drop off line every time I tried to get in the internet. I talked to Verison and I can get wireless broadband for $60/month. It will cost me $150 for the equipment and the first month. I also get a $50 rebate on that. I have 30 days to try it out and if I don't like it I get a full refund. I can cut our phone service and save about $40/ month so I'm out $20 for the service. I'm going to give it a try and see what happens.

Bobk: Sign - Welcome [#welcome] You have my sympathes. It's good the Mom is there to help out. As the guys and gals have said feel free to drop in and we'll be hear for you.

Colby: Nice going on you studies and being up for mention in Who's Who. If you haven't guessed by my spelling I wasn't the best student in school. Your pictures are very good. The last one of the snow is callender quilty for sure. Would you mind if I made a copy of it?

I'm going to post this before PPC goes out again.

Good evening, I will have an oriental chicken salad and a pepsi.

I spent the morning in town, and minutes after I turned Pearl out to play.....

Some children need supervision. Tornado Tornado

Dick,  I guess the storm was not too bad because you still have power.

I did get some layout time.  I did a small section of ballast.

Off to a good start on the scenery here. I've got the WS foam ready to go and one of my railroad crossings is almost complete. In case you're wondering, I'm using Sheetrock all purpose joint compound. It has to be put on in thin layers, allowing each layer to dry before applying the next layer. It's a lot easier to work with than plaster and can be reworked for up to an hour as it dries.

Mornin, I'll have a farmers spacial n coffee Janie.

Had rain, rain snow mix, with a stiff wind, so it was good to be inside warm n dry yesterday. It's 32 out and the wind has laid now. Guesser's are saying a high round 50, + or - a few degress and some sun for today.

Looks like all the folks back east are getting a big weather mess [sorry Fergie] today. Hope ya'll get through with no major problems.

HOOPLE, easy son, your engine will show up, someday

JEFF, glad you still got an ok deal on the engine. Stuff like that make me upset when it happens. I use dry wall mud on my layout, works great, just takes awhile to dry

Not much planned for the day, got some honey-do's to fininsh up, n maybe get some track time. Hope ya'll has a good day

Good morning all,

Sue:  I'm just south of Dick- the storm hasn't hit yet. It's 7AM and the sky is solid gray and  no wind. The N'oreasters can be real bad along the coast here south of Boston to the cape.

Jeff:  Looks like you got WS sampler spread out there. So you have good luck w/ the Sheetrock instead of plaster.

Dick: Battening down to hatches yet? Sure looks like it's ready to hit here on the south shore.

Still can't get used to this New forum- used to be able to scroll through other posts while replying- move it about and the fields reset, what a PITA....What can I do, must be overlooking something simple here. My memory isn't that great to remember what you're all up to.

Paul: Good luck with the new DSL, should be like getting lightning on the screen

Gary: Thanks for the hints on the pics, We didn't get into it last night. My daughter wants to Photo shop to adjust the colors in her Ibook first. We'll see how they come out. Only did get a dozen or so shots yesterday before the battery died.

Guess I'm ready for another cup..........

The Sheetrock stuff gives me much more working time than the plaster of paris does, also I can thin it a bit if want to pour it into an area. Think that's a lot WS stuff? I'm probably gonna need 3 times that amount before I'm finished.

Jeff,

It's amazing how the stuff does evaporate.

I'm basically incharge of scenery at my club, I'm glad that I don't have to foot the bill alone for all that is used. This year my annual budgeted allowance was eaten up with one purchase of rubber rocks from "Cripplebush" @ the Springfeild show. Hope to show pics of the 12ft long cut sometime later. Cripplebush wants these pics also- I guess no one has been crazy enough to attempt a cut that massive with their product so far. They are nice to work with- but very $$$

I'm still a die hard plaster guy- but you always have to have an open mind for new methods.

Good Morning Everyone!

Looks like you have your work cut out for you Jeff!

I do too!  I have a class to teach this morning and then I also have two new teacher orientations to do.  My afternoon is free though, so maybe I can get something done on my own layout, huh?

We had this stuff falling from the sky yesterday.  It was the strangest looking stuff you ever saw!  It was all white and fluffy, and it was cold too!  Hope we don't see that stuff again!

Oh, and Bob, you can open two windows to be able to read things and post at the same time.  Open them both on the coffee shop, then use one to post and the other to read.  You can even read multiple pages while you're making out your post that way!

Good morning, and a sunny morning it is.  Just coffee please.

I believe that I will spend most of the day working on fence.  Cowgirl  When I am tired, I will come in and work on the layout.  Yesterday, every time I headed out, it rained. I managed to ballast the section by my new scratch tunnel portal and retaining wall.  It seems solid this morning.  I will probably cement the river rock portal before I head out. It is still plenty chilly out.

Mark,  Thanks for the head's up on the steam in Tacoma.  Did you check a tracking number on your loco?  Mine came UPS on the day they predicted.

Garry,  Yes, she is a black lab.  The mud kinda makes her look like a rotweiller.

Bob,  I have the D50. It has more bells and whistles than I can figure out.

Well, I should go attack the liquid nails. Hammer Head

Good Morning All,

Sundays' running at Pocono was cancelled due to the incoming storm so my son and I skedaddled at the end of the day. Lost an hour on 84 climbing the hill out of Fishkill due to a wreck. Stop and go, bumper to bumper in the climbing lane at no more than 5mph was better than expected with the rollerskates behaving and all the trucks just getting on with it. No issues with the KW and we were home by 9pm. Just in time to go to sleep. Just rain so far here, but better safe than sorry I've had some really lurid incidents over the years in the snow with a rig.

Sign - Welcome [#welcome]Bob - Glad to see you here and we're quite honored. (Modest Bob is quite the sage out in the big room dispensing good advice and help.) Sorry to hear of your loss, but as the others have said we welcome you and feel free to write what you please.

Garry - If you do NS again, one popular way is the Ferry from Bar Harbor to Yarmouth, then the lighthouse route (old route 3) up to Halifax. The tourism board has info on it in and I can get the E-dress if you wish. Of course we recommend a stop at 17South Bed and Breakfast in Lockeport just off Crescent Beach. (M.Mitchell and E.Maclean props. - that would be mom and sis.) Lots to see and do along the way.

Once i finish chores it's a free day (would have had to do the chores tomorrow evening otherwise) so back to it and I'll stop in later and catch up on the posts. CUL,Big Smile [:D]J.R.

Afternoon, Janie - looks like there've only been a couple through since lunchtime. I'll have a root beer float, some cheesie fries, and a double cheeseburger, please - Yum! Dinner [dinner] Thanks, Luc!

Sign - Welcome [#welcome], Bob K. - sorry to hear of your loss. Good to see you in here, and good that you have an active club to stay in touch with (plus I'm figuring your Mom's a good cook, which helps). Our club has a medium-sized (I'd say) layout, which is probably over half/two-thirds built. We're working on completing a swing-gate to make a continuouse run possible, and scenicking on that side of the room. Before that, we'd had staging yards at/near each end of the mainline, but we'll loose part of one (it'll now be double-ended mostly) and all but a couple of tracks on the other (which goes through a wall, branching off the mainline at about 90 degrees).

My personal layout is much smaller - right now, about 8' long and between 2 and 2-1/2 feet at the widest. It's mostly switching-oriented for now, since I live in an apartment and don't have a spare bedroom (plus, I'm saving up for deposits on a new place). Here's about what the track plan is like:

Originally, the mainline at the bottom was straight, until I realized I'd have to have a 16-20' long room to leave room for reasonable curves at each end...Shock [:O]Oops [oops]

Sign - Welcome [#welcome] AztecEagle - actually, one former regular here (well, in the Coffee Shop we had before we relocated here to the Diner), Siberianmo, has an O scale (Polar Express) up around the ceiling in his (mostly otherwise) HO scale train room. The pics he posted back in the CS of it were pretty impressive. Smile [:)]  What's your layout like (scale, rail line modeled, time period you follow, etc.)? I'm in SE Missouri and we have fellow Diner denizens from all over the map (Nova Scotia to Florida to the West Coast, and a few in Australia and Great Britain, too). Where do you hail from - Texas, still?

Both of you new guys have a cup on me (well, I think Luc's buying for this page, but I'm sure he won't mind my covering your beverages Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]) - enjoy the Diner.Yeah!! [yeah]

Sue - how'd Pearl get that covered - she go rolling in it? When I first glanced at your pic and saw the hose, I thought all the wetness was from her playing with the hose. Wink [;)]

Hope our New Englanders and Nova Scotians are snug inside and have things all fastened down. I think anything that isn't might end up being blown away or floating off. Dick, you haven't had any pairs of animals showing up on your doorstep lately, have you? Shock [:O]

Hoople, I have had almost as much trouble as you have, except mine was with the Walthers 4-packs of ore cars. They'd be on sale in the Walthers sale catalog and I'd order them, but they'd get back ordered, and never come in, so I got tired of it and quit trying. I don't know how Paul managed to get all the ones he has - well, maybe it was because he'd order a hundred at a time or so...? But as you say, if that engine is showing up on their website, you may be getting yours this next week.

Oh, congrats, Garry on the new widescreen TV - Enjoy! Yeah!! [yeah] As others have said, should be great for watching train DVD's. Hook up a sound system to that, and you'll be able to feel the rumble of a BigBoy or Challenger 'going by'...Smile [:)]

Almost forgot - Bob K. - Bow [bow]Bow [bow] to your daughter for her good taste in computers. (I'm a Mac fan, also) After she gets done PhotoShopping the pics, I assume we'll be seeing your club's layout in a summer issue of MR, yes? Wink [;)]

Time for me to get back to the wiring for my layout. See everyone later. Smile [:)]

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Philip, I hope that she doesn't step on that tongue.

Jim, About Pearl, we keep a couple of 5 gallon buckets full of water and she has started dumping one of them in a hole that she dug.  Then she goes swimming in the mud hole.  What a slob.  Now the hose is a short piece that she managed to drag up onto the deck earlier.  She is starting to look at the hose reel boxes.  I was hoping that those hoses were safe.Banged Head [banghead]

Well, back out to fence building.

Actually, she really doesn't slobber, but then, she has a cold, so who knows when she gets better.

We got her from some folks who were keeping her outside (!) under a car port (!) in a wire cage (!) while they went to work (I don't want to talk about how much I'd like to turn them in to the authorities!), and appearently they worked alot!  Now remember, I live in Indiana.  This means that she had spent most of at least this winter, maybe more, short fur and all, outdoors!  She had bad frostbite on her nose at some point, so her poor little nose has some pretty severe frostbite damage.  She also has a pretty bad cold and her poor little throat is raw.  She was weasing when we got her a couple of nights ago.  A nice warm bath and a new indoor space and a couple days later, she's sounding a whole lot better now.  Her throat is better and her breathing is more regular.  She's still recouping, but today she wanted to play for the first time since we got her Thursday night, so thats a good sign.  The vet says to just keep up what were doing, so we are.

Poor thing....she's had a very rough life so far!  I'm glad that the rest will be better.

Good Evening All,

Still raining, backyard is under water as usual (we back upto the town park) when it rains a lot,  but outside of being miserable and cold it's ok. Here are the only pics I got of my abrothers' brother in laws' (does that make him an outlaw or what?) layout before the camera indicated it was full. I'll get another chance one of these days and post more. He didn't have NAS Lakehurst started yet so I have a good excuse. How big will Nearly invisible blimps be? Just had dinner so now it's back to wiring the layout - big cheer here for suitcase connectors. I hate soldering on my back!! CUL,Big Smile [:D]J.R.

Hey, A pony keg hangin' from the rafters could be a good start for the blimp. Empty of course.
