Good Evening Diners: I see Fergie’s in the Captain’s chair and spending like a sailor! I’ll have some dessert please.
Fergie, does this mean you get more modeling space, or are you in your usual quarters?
Not a pleasant 72 hours. It’s included the theft and recovery of our car. Thank God it wasn’t the van. We’ve lost the camera it seems. My blood meter was with it, but that was merely kicked under a seat. Thankfully, I have a spare. I don’t want to go into details, just very grateful to have the vehicle back undamaged.
So Fergie, I’m sorry about the "tank" photos. I’ll do a drawing of the entryway if you like. It’s about the only thing that you couldn’t just guess at for a model, and even then, it’s more the topography of that particular site, more than anything.
Real house shaker of a thunderstorm early this morning. From the sound of it there were two separate cells, one very close, and the other a few miles further off.
to all the new and returning folks since I was last in.
Scott, belated congratulations on the NS job. With your work ethic, it’s certain you’ll do well.
I’m finally back to working on the layout again as of this evening. Sawing up and sanding rock castings to extend the rock wall at the end of the room. Next stage after this is to attempt a major fault line with angled up-thrust that should give a “geological” reason for the mountain in the corner. The blue desert shall be conquered, and all the access hatches will eventually have their seams disguised! Since beginning this post, I’ve been able to shape and set five major castings. This brings me to the start of the fault region. There’s a good deal of fill-in work to do on tonight’s progress, but I feel good about getting back on the case.
I’ll say , and God Bless. Prayers for all in need of healing, comfort and peace.

I really should proof read before posting..."thise"? Anyway, before I forget,
***Fergie, your 2-10-0 photos look good. Those brutes sure are loaded high with coal. Going for some long hauls soon?
***cheese4432, Congrats on the Merit Badges, from an old Eagle Scout and x-whitewater rafter. Enjoy it while you can.
Rob
The usual in a UP or AT&SF mug. If all out of thise, then a Southern is my third choice. Oh, and I would like to try one of those Smores and don't hold back on the chocolate.
***Colby, did the Loon have anything to say? Cool birds with such a distinctive and beautiful call.
Well, might go to "Doc In The Box" (our name for the clinic in town) if my hand isn't better. It is swollen, warm and itchy, but the blood is still circulating so I'm not concerned. Will decide in the morning. Rob
Well I haven't been this site for a few months...or on a computer for 3 week during vacatio n, and one at scout camp(a blast with water sorts 6or7 merit badges and two days of whitewater rafting!) so I finally come back and still need to get some brown paint because light green, light blue, and a dark red burgundy type color make light pink I'll have a hot dogwith all the fixxings....yes sweet, hamburger, and hotdog relish. Barbeeque sauce also please. And no sour crout thanks.
Man, Colby....Your pics make me homesick! I wanna come back to Maine!
Looks like the trip was a lot of fun!
Colby,
I did. You have to look closely. I held the phone over the fence to snap a photo.
Your photos look like you had some fun.
Sue
Anything is possible if you do not know what you are talking about.
I'm back!!!!!
Smores anyoner?
SCOTT - CONGRATS ON GETTING TO USE 1:1 SCALE LOCOS & ROLLING STOCK!!! Also. What colledge/tech center did you go to, or is it on-the-job training? Cause I to want to work on the RR.
Grayson- here's $50 to help out for that 1 mile long bill.
Sue- you should have gotten a pic of the boxcar remains.
PC- I think you still have to finish off paying debt to sosciety and Flo (our master chief)
Now for 3 day trip to Katahdin.

Day.1: My dad, brother and I reach Millinocket, Maine. Gess what is there to greet us, but Montreal, Maine and Atlantic (MMA) 5026 Ex. Burlington Northern 5026, C30-7 built in 1979, with 3,000hp. info thanks to Feb '07 issue of Trains Mag. We reach camp were our friends from Bangor, Maine are already there. After unpacking everything which took up the whole back half of my mom's van (with removal of theback set of seats). My dad said we packed light but the stuff we packed wasn't.
Our Cabin had a "waterfront view". It was more of a Pinetree view, but hey it was like a wind tunnel, we got every little gust of wind which really helped.
Here is the view.
and look who was there to greet us. The local Loon with it's chick.
The chipmunks and squriles were brave. they came right up to us and nibbled their way into the hotdog rolls (btw cloe I'll have hotdogs 2 muster only please), bread, and the hamburger buns. Cookie and I (nickname for my friend Milton) tried to get them away but they were like 'haha! Gung-ho boys! Were legilly protected by the state.' (use your imagination on this one)
Day 2 was mostly spent playing cribbage, canooning, and hanging out at the ledgeds, which are natural waterslides with hard granite covered with a slippery coating. Fun, Fun, Fun. Not fun when you fall.
Day 3: packedup and headed home and got this.

Oh, I see! Those layers are pretty big too!!!!
You haven't seen him eat, have you? He says he eats one layer at a time, but what he didn't tell you was that he eats each layer in one bite! That sandwich is mearly a five bite appetizer! I'm tellin' ya, don't go near his mouth! He doesn't eat food, he inhales it!

Jim, Sorry about the vampire attack.
Glad you guys liked the bike trip photos. My friends thought that I was crazy when I took photos of every train related thing for resource material.
I guess Fergie is buying today. Hmmm. I will have a large green salad with my coffee. Thanks.

And thats a record Flip can have!
Grayson, now you can afford to eat again! Someone else is footing the bill!
Fergie, thanks! I like it pretty well too. I had actually thought of asking if I could modify yours and use it, I like it that much. I figured it might cause confusion though, and besides, this one is closer to my prototype.
FERGIE!!!!!!! YOU BROKE MY TOP OF THE PAGE RECORD!!!!!!
Well I'll take a cup of coffee, corn beef hash, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, grits, hashbrowns, biscuits, and toast, a hamburger, french fries, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and green beans!!!!!
Thanks Fergie for the wonderful breakfast and lunch!!!!!

Good Afternoon All
Well it's been a tad long since I last sat down here but I had to get back to sea to put my feet up and rest. Not a month at home I wish to repeat as dad landed back in the hospital and I never got the retaining wall project completely finished. Lisa and I finally got away for an over nigthter and that was it for her 2 week vacation. Pretty sad when you got to back to work for a break.
Anyway I don't know if any of you saw the photo of the 2-10-2 additions I posted on the main site but here they are. They didn't seem to get mu8ch of a response from the GP or PG so I don't know if I've upset everyone or if the crowd is sleeping these days?
Scott: Congrats on the new job! you done good and I'm sure if you keep at it you'll continue to do excellent.
Phil: Love the Avatar!
Dick: keep an eye out for me as I'm out by Sable and on the main Hurricane Tracking Route. Though I haven't seen too much developing yet I figure it's just a matter of time. I'm sitting in the Big Chair this trip as the Regular "Old Man" is on leave.
Well not much else on the go. I bought another Erie shovel so I'd better sit down and start piecing it together. Brought the right glue this time!!
Later All

please & thank you.
Hand is still swollen & warm from that darn wasp. Took another benadryl and will start back icing it today. Insects are amazing little creatures. If I had a lionel O train (and hadn't already stomped that wasp) I could have carefully tied it to the rails with some fishing line and... If I tried that with N scale, it might grab the loco and toss it off the tracks .
Morning, Janie. I need some coffee first, to wake up. Then I'll have something like Jeff had, please...
Yeah, let me have a chocolate donut with that, too.

Ah, I see - you like the danger and thrill of the hunt, huh?
Uh, Mark, I'd think twice before you sneak up behind me like that.
My ears hear pretty well, thanks, and I heard you coming. Besides, Vinnie and I have been talking about some possible 'errands' he might do for me...
Well, I'd better get going for now, folks.
Blessings,
Jim in Cape Girardeau
Morning, farmers special n coffee Janie
Another hot one here and the forecast for next week, even hotter, highs in the mid 90's, heat index, 100 plus and no wind to speak of. We did get a light rain and some lighting last evening, just before the demo-derby at the fair started that last all evening. But, the show went on and it was a good turn out ok and the rain had cooled it off a bunch. Today is the open horse show and then it's done for another year.
DICK, haven't had one of those new eye test yet, but it sounds way better than the old one.
JEREMY,, good to hear from you again, doing anything else besides RC trucks.
SUE,,, looks like you folks had a nice ride, thanks for the pics.
GARRY,, don't think they run during the week, but I'm sure they'd let you in to wonder around. Here's the contact info [877] 762-9011 and [217] 762-9011, http://www.mrym.org/
It's not over crowded through here; our largest industry is farming for this area [farming n bunch of people don't mix well]. I've tried city life a few times, it's not for me, crowds make nervous.
Our fishing trip goes through St. LOU and Jim way south of there, so his custard safe. Hope all your test go well at the docs.

***Paul, sorry to hear about your tractor troubles. If it only needs a cheap part, then the time it will take to replace it often more than makes up for it, and visa versa....or so it seems. BTW, if a sting sends you to the ER, you might want to carry an epipen or have one near, just incase. My alergy isn't quite that bad yet. We usually have epinephrine & solumedrol on the farm for emergencies.
***Jim, I would never call an exterminator, as I thoroughly enjoy the midnight hornet/wasp/yellowjacket hunts with cans of killer foaming spray. A fcouple weeks ago I picked up a grease rag (daytime) that had been laying on the root rake only to watch a brown cloud of hornets fly out. Must have jumped backwards ten feet, sore back and all. Got all those little beasties that night by flashlight.
Tongiht the atmospheric conditions are ideal for hearing the distant train passing through Fairmount. From the rumble, the last train must have had a good number of locos and full cars. Only wish the tracks were closer.
Well, going to go try falling asleep again. Rob

Yeah, I know! I just checked the heat meter!
Evening, Chloe - I'll have one of those root beer floats, please.

Oh, sure Jeremy, rub it in! Boy, could we use some of your weather down on this side of the jetstream... Well, at least somebody is staying cool without running up a big electric bill. Good to hear from you again.
Sue, that tunnel thing was kind of curious - wonder if they hit some really bad rock with the first try from the 2-opening end, and had to re-dig/drill/blast on a slightly different path? Dunno.
Rob, careful with those wasps - they can be nasty, even for those of us who aren't allergic (let alone for guys like you and Paul). Call in the exterminator and let them get rid of the nest or wherever that wasp came from.
Garry, the club layout's probably gonna need at least another meeting or two of cutting sections. Last Monday, we all decided that the landlord has to get the new location done first, so we have room to move all the stuff that's sitting around right now. We're running out of space to put things. If we'd taken down the cabinets, there wouldn't have been enough floor space to set them down! So getting closer, but not there yet. I figure we'll (hopefully) be moving before Labor Day weekend. Oh, as for where Inch is going is the Meramec Park, on/around the Meramec River, and not far from Sullivan, MO. Excellent for tubing or canoeing or just floating on a hot day (like today...) Not far off of the old Route 66 (now I-44). But a goodly bit of a ways from me, over on the Mississippi River in Cape Girardeau.
Grayson, washing the dishes might just be preferable to taking out a loan from Chloe and Zoe's cousin Vinny and not keeping up on the payments... If I recall correctly from a time or two in the past when I hit the TOP, the apron is on the left as you go into the kitchen, hanging on a nail. Best wishes on that!
Inch, Jerry, PC and everybody east of me - better get ready for more of this hot weather -
Think I'll have a big tall glass of water myself, and then head for home. See everyone tomorrow sometime. I'm hoping to get the dining room table cleared off (yes, again...) and solder those leads on the wires to get a little closer to wiring my layout. That, and see about assembling those track bumpers that I didn't get to today.
Chloe, better order in more fixin's for lemonade and ice cream for the root beer floats - you'll be selling a bunch of 'em the next week, I expect. Everybody stay cool tonight and do your best on staying cool tomorrow. Prayers for those in need of healing (including Rob's hand) and comfort, and keep those in Minnesota in your prayers, if you would.
Paul, Thanks for the correction. I just copied Chicago, St. Paul, Milwaukee, and Pacific, off the USGS quad map dated 1960. I know in our area we had the Milwaukee Road, but I am not a history buff.

That was a maybe slightly too subtle hint..........

Evening Gang:
Grayson: You are about to give PC a run for his money. You might as well go for it. Oh yea, watch out for Vinney. He's the girls collector and not to be fooled with.
Sue: Not to be a picker of nits, but it's the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacfic. Of course if you don't want to write all that you can use, The Milwaukee Road. Having been born and raised in Milwaukee I kind of spotted that right off. Right now I'm deep into re-reading my books onthe Milwaukee Road. Since Walthers anounced they are bring out the Twin Cities Hiawatha I've been back to maybe doing Milwaukee's depot in downtown Milwaukee Wisc.
Not much going on except that the 52 horsepower tractor busted it's fan belt. Since it also needs an engine overhaul and a radiator and a clutch I'm looking at a bunch of money. When it rains it pours I guess.
Rob I'm also alleergic to insectec stings. I got hit last month and ended up going to the ER. I took a couple of Benedryl before I went and got a shot there. I felt all right later with no after effects. We've got to be watchful. My Mary Ann is like your wife. She'll do allmost anything I will with the tractors. She dosen't run my loader though. Too many levers.
Well I guess I'll head for bed.
Good Night All
Just a decaf coffee please.
***Sue, what a neat trip. Enjoyed the photos and hope you can find out about the double tunnel history. Your modeling that avalanche shelter is a great idea.
Well, got stung by a hornet this evening while doing water rounds. I am a bit allergic so (after killing the little basta*d), took Benadryl, Motrin, packed the sting with baking soda, then ice. Hand doesn't hurt, just a bit warm with rather stiff fingers from the swelling. Going to go lay back down for awhile and watch TV with the wife while I ice it some more.
Catch y'all tomorrow. Rob
