Good Morning All,

A regular and a donut please Zoe. Back at it in the shop getting ready for Grattan next week plus the other usual stuff. Lime Rock went well with the weather hot and dumid but thankfully dry.

Today is humid again, currently 67F with no breeze and 100% humidity according to the weather guessers and personal observation.

Spent the last few days cleaning the train room and w..kbench plus putting the drum set back togeher for my youngest two kids.

Deja Vue all over again, we're now to cut the red tape and rebuild that bridge in Minn. Hope we can get a single bridge rebuilt as I recall a similar pledge in New Orleans a couple of years ago and they haven't even finished cleaning up yet.

Time to get back to it before that light at the end of the tunnel catches up to me. CUL,J.R.

Hey y'all. Cowboy [C):-)]

It's been a bit longer than I thought...Got a few pages to make up for.

Thanks again to everyone for the congrats, best wishes, and luck. It feels good to be going after the dream, no matter how hard to work may be to eventually get there. Big Smile [:D]

And in the modelling world...I may have another project to be working on here...Can't work on the Steasel until I get a new chassis for the engine so that I can build the tender.

Paul: So working on my friend's farm isn't enough? Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] I've helped with his cattle and unloaded the hay bales with 'em. I'll lend a hand whenever they want/need it. If I was coming down to Texas any time soon, I'd swing by and help out. Wink [;)]

Fergie: Long time no see! That's a good lookin' 2-10-2! I've been wanting to get an N scale one...But haven't had the money. And thanks for the encouragement. Smile [:)]

Colby: No college, no tech school. NS is going to pay for my training. It is a combination of schooling in McDonough, GA; and on-site training here in Baltimore. Just had to go through the recruitment session and take an aptitude test and personality test. If you decide to persue it, good luck to ya!

Okay y'all, I'm out! Cowboy [C):-)]

Good evening, hot and sticky here today with several downpours, and three houses hit by lightening in towns east of us. It was a good day to check out the DVD's that came with the Aztek airbrush kit. As it turns out, one of the DVD's is for those countrys that use PAL format, the other was standard for this country. It was a very good instructional DVD, as it covered both use and maintenance, and the different techniques that can be used.

JEFF: Sorry to hear of more health problems, you have more than your share. I went to Wal-Mart today, and while my wife was doing her thing, I visited the toy dept this time where the models are, and low and behold there was the Aztek A270 kit complete with a small air compressor.

FERGIE: All clear so far in the Tropics, but these fronts that keep passing off the New England coastline have some pretty bad storms with them and seas are over 8 feet. I don't know if they will hold together until they hit the warmer Gulf Stream, I'll keep an eye on the satellite.

LUC: We sure hope that Gloria gets her PM soon and the replacement, she is doing a remarkable job with all that she has been through.

CAPE JIM: I have more shots of Crawford RR Station, here they are:

Blowing off steam getting ready to continue on to Fabyan Station.

I was on a steep banking taking this shot, I could have jumped into the cab!!

In fact, I was nearly on top of the locomotive, I ddin't dare move.

It was only 75 today.  This morning it was misting, so I did my chores in town early.  I put in 3 fence posts on my corral (outside).  The work is never done.

Jim, Is that a Cookies and Cream milkshake?  How did you know that was my favorite.  I will have one of them if you are buying.

I stained my stockyard.  I wonder if one coat will be enough.  I need to get back to my tree planting.  I have lots to do before Larry can do the trestle.

[So that should mean I can get the car's A/C recharged, cover the current bills, and have some MRR money left over.Yeah!! <img src=" border="0" width="29" height="15" />Big Smile <img src=" border="0" width="15" height="15" />]

Jim, are you sure the AC takes priority over the latest & greatest model in that model RR catalog you've been eyeing? Would be a tough call, even if it was 110 in the shade...well, perhaps that is a slight exaggeration. Cowboy [C):-)] Rob ps: NO bifocals, although technically my bad eye does qualify. As long as the object/lettering/etc is over 2' away, I can focus on it.

Chloe, it is hot out there - can I go sit in the cooler for a while? Sad [:(] Well, it was worth a try... But I guess that should mean it's good weather for some of these, huh?

I think I'll have one of those multi-decker cones, myself. Thanks! It is still stinko hot in Cape Girardeau - was about 92 F (33 C) at 7 in the evening and it's still 87 at 9 pm.(31 C) now - sheesh! Enough to make one of Fergie's polar bear buddies shave off his coat (well, almost). Hope everyone stayed out of this heat as much as possible. They had a skeet-shooting championship in this area and some of the contestants had to go to the hospital with heat exhaustion. Paul, put off that outside work until the heat breaks. We don't want to have you going to the hospital.

Had to go out today to assess someone at an area jail - hardest part was the drive. Nope, I still need to get my car's A/C charged after tomorrow (payday). Used the old "255" air conditioning (roll both windows down and drive the speed limit on that particular road).Wink [;)] It was soooo good to get back inside some air conditioned spaces!

Found out something really good today, too. Since our agency uses direct deposit, they sometimes put the paystub envelopes in our mail slots the afternoon before. I noticed my check was for more than the previous one was, and checked with my supervisor. I found out that I'm actually getting a bonus on top of my percentage raise (!!!).

So that should mean I can get the car's A/C recharged, cover the current bills, and have some MRR money left over.Yeah!! [yeah]Big Smile [:D]

Car's low on gas, so I'm forgoing the MRR club tonight. Hope the landlord has the club's new space ready soon, since we don't have any spare space in the current club room for the cabinets once we get them taken down. Tomorrow I'll get gas, and then also get the car's A/C recharged.

Sue, not to worry about my vampire attack - the arm will probably look normal by the end of the week, I figure. Tell Larry I think a lot of us can relate to that 'morning after' picture. Wink [;)]

cheese4432, Sign - Welcome [#welcome] back, and congrats on the merit badges. I'm sure the water sports were good in this weather.

Fergie, since you're busy with Captain [4:-)]'ing, will you have much time for your MRR work this trip - or will you be running the ship on autopilot? Wink [;)]

Dick, that first shot of the 7470 (coming through the gap) could be a great model railroad (even a 4X8 layout could be set up like that), if someone did a good job on the scenery.Smile [:)] If you have more shots of that Crawford Station, please post 'em. That would be a nice station to build a model of, I think.

Mark, hopefully you will be able to get an order in for that Big Boy through MB Klein and get you one. Thumbs Up [tup]

Luc, good idea for you to run out the back after that joke...Whistling [:-^] Whistling [:-^] Thanks for keeping us updated on Glo' and how she's doing. Will keep her in our Angel [angel]Angel [angel].

Krump, hope your computer problems get fixed soon (or maybe the Forum's software is the problem?).

Jeff, sorry to hear about the foot problem working its way up. Be careful with the pain meds - you want it to help, but some of those can get a person hooked even at the prescribed dosage. Your working those jobs lately hasn't aggravated your Charcot, has it? Hope not!

Rob, good to hear that you got the epipen. Hope the glasses help with the Camelback project - are you getting regular/bifocal/no-line ones? Evil [}:)]Whistling [:-^]

About finished with my cone, so I'll be heading out for now. Sounds like several of us Diners can stand some prayers tonight.

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

in a Southern mug, please and thank you.

***Jeffrey (and others who are going through challenging times), all my best to you.

Made a visit to Doc In The Box and got a prescription for an Epipen. I'm sure I will never need it, but it is something good to have on the farm just incase. Also saw the eye Doc and my right eye has actually improved from a year ago. Don't ask about the left though. nerd Will pick up the new glasses later in the week and maybe I can see well enough to finish that camelback project. I went to see the doc today about a shooting pain I've been having in my right ankle the last few days. It just feels like a lightning bolt jumps from my ankle to my lower back and it's really annoying! I wish I could just ban it like I would an undesirable or disruptive member on my forum, but I can't. Darn! He took X-rays and found the culprit. My Charcot condition has fired up again. Having done as much damage as it could do in my right, it's decided it's time to move up in the world. It is now attacking my right ankle, disintegrating the the joint and making it collapse in on itself, catching the poor sciatic nerve in the middle. Every time the bones move a certain way, the nerve gets pinched, about two or three times every five minutes. Surgery is out of the question, as removing any bone from the joint will make it far weaker than it is. So he prescribed a pain killer that helps deaden nerve pain. Something called Garpentin. It's 300 mg per capsule and I have to take it twice a day. I hope it helps. These electrical flashes are really annoying me!

Hi all.

Haven't been here in a while.  To bring you up to date, Gloria has had more episodes with her heart, looks like she will need a pace maker for a start, her cardiologist mentioned something about some sort of infection around the heart muscle as well.  Not sure of the plan on this yet.  She is also waitiong for a knee replacement, the team is ready but because of her heart condition, they require a cardiac team in the OR.  This will need some difficult coordination and careful planning.  All of this has kept our stress level way up there.

Haven't done much modelling wise, looking after Gloria, working and the very hot humid temps have taken the omphs out of me.

Nice to see some poeple coming back and new faces around the diner.  Welcome all.

Now for the worst joke ever....

Children were called upon in a classroom to make sentences with words chosen by the teacher. The teacher smiled when Jack raised his hand to participate. She gave him the words 'defeat,' 'deduct,' 'defense,' and 'detail.' Jack stood seriously for a while with all eyes focused on him awaiting his reply:
"Defeat of deduct went over defense before detail!"

Luc runs out thru the back door ducking away from condiment bottles being thrown at him...

Happy MRRing

Afternoon All

Greetings fom East of Sable Is.

Dick: We can do 16 knots with it all on the line but we like to keep it to 12 as anymore than that we will burn up the fuel. at present we are approximately 240nm from Halifax so we're looking at a 20hr trip home. Home in three days then off to Hibernia which is approximately 500nm from homeport. BTW Loved the pics! looked like a very nice trip.

On that note: Bill, I also liked your pics of the Berkshire, Always a crowd pleaser.

Paul: A little extra cash is always appreciated but it is already spent as I need a new kitchen, sunroom and hallway floor. We'll be putting down tile this time.

John: Sorry to hear about your misadventures. hard to be forgiving when that crap happens. As far as the Tank goes I think I'll adlib as I already have windows left over from several kits. So why re-invent the wheel. As far as the Cabin goes the Hudson is 45 years old so the cabins tend to be a tad more sparse than the newr bateaus of our aging fleet. Noe the less she's a very capable ship and a bit bigger then my 1st command.

Anyway time to go

Later All

Fergie

Hey all.

Grayfox: I believe I said ORDER DEADLINE not SHIPPING DATE. If the shipping date was bumped sooner, that'd be good. They bumped the ORDER DEADLINE to THREE DAYS AGO.

Sorry for shouting.

On the bright side, MB klein is still taking orders. YAY!

Mornin' all!

Great pics Dick!

Busy, busy day today!

My daughter is in the office today to start an internship, Ihave to go and register for my college classes today, plus all of my usual work for the day.  Busy, busy, busy!

Here's the local weather for the Indianapolis area......

DANGEROUS HEAT INDICES THIS WEEK!

THIS WEEK:  Sunday marked day number 6 in a row of 90 degree plus heat.  We are not close to a record yet, but we will certainly get closer this week.  Here is the list of most consecutive days of 90 degrees or higher.  The record is 19 back in 1936.

Today should easily be day number 7 in a row, as highs will hit the low to mid 90's.  With dewpoints around 70 (a extremely tropical air-mass, similar to summers in Florida), heat index values will run from 100 - 105.  With the State Fair, sports 2-a-days, take precautions if you are going to be outdoors.  Here is a list of possible heat disorders when heat index values approach 105 degrees.

When will the heat end???  Well, there may be a slight break by next weekend, but it will still be above normal in the heat department.

Yards and crops need to see more rain.  As far as that is concerned, the rain will be hit and miss for most of the week.

FAIR WEATHER DAY:  Usually Fair Weather Day is during the second week of the fair, but that has changed this year!  Fair Weather Day is this Thursday.  Here is a graphic with the details.

Well, I'd best hit it!

I'm gone!

Poof!

Good morning.......yesterday was a spectacular day here weatherwise, today, cloudy, showers on the way and much higher heat and humidity, but, this "is" August and it "is" expected.

ROB: Glad you enjoyed the photos from railfan weekend in NH. I love this new Nikon D70 DSLR that we bought a year ago, I am still learning the features.

HOOPLE: Mark, patience is a virtue grasshopper!!! The delay may have been caused by manufacturing problems, or a broken die, or a fault in the design. Or, maybe their suppliers of parts are late with delivery. Maybe they discovered that the Chinese Mfgr used "lead paint", so that delayed the delivery. There could be any number of reasons. I would rather have the delivery late, and be a fine working locomotive, than a POC and have to be returned...right ?

FERGIE: I have you covered my friend. I observe the weather daily, and as soon as anything arises, you will be notified. Sable Is. is a long way out there, how many knots can your ship ( The Hudson ? ) make ?

MIKE: The Veggie garden is doing just great, our new watering technique is working better than expected. The four black 35 gallon barrels really get heated nicely by the sun, so watering the plants is much better than the hose from the well that has 47F water which "shocks" the plants....not good !!! And, we add lime to the water and rapid grow, so we also fertilize and lime the soil at the same time.

CAPE JIM: Yes, the problems are NEVER the ISP's, it has to be "our's"!!!  Censored [censored]Banged Head [banghead]

TRAIN STUFF: I am checking out the two instructional DVD's that came with the airbrush kit, let you know how good they are. The catalog showed VHS tape, so I was suprised but happy to see DVD's instead. Approve [^]

Good evening , been out straight the last few days, 1st with all the  ISP issues, then a router driver upgrade issue, then a bandwidth problem, finally things are looking OK. I have more photosdto share, they are added to Wedshots on my link at the bottom of my reply, under Trains Album when you open the website. In the meantime, here are a couple from the same Railfan trip back on July 14th in New Hampshire's White Mountain, and the old B&M Mountain Division line.

Here is 7470  at the "gateway" at the top of Crawford Notch, the highest elevation, as she approached Crawford Station.

Here she is taking On water from the fire truck tanker, you can see the truck at the left edge of the photo.

This photo is looking east towards Crawford Station, Elephant Head rock can be clearly seen the the background.

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! Evening Gang: I actually got some work done in the MRR field today. That's on the 7 ½ inch gauge. I went down to work on the diesel locomotive but I ended up getting the string trimmer and finding the main line out east of the depot. Since I had the string trimmer there and the air hose for the air grinder was up at the house. I managed to clear the main for about 150 ft and had to trim an oak tree that had laid down a couple of branches on the track. I did cut the weeds around the turntable lead where the locomotive is. Since that is raised it makes a handy work bench. The weather was HOT. I had to make a trip to the house to get water. I should have brought some with me.

Rob: That hand seems serious to me. I headed to the ER as a precaution. I also have a back up. My allergy doctor lives across the road. Really take care of yourself.

Sue: Where is that tunnel? Do you know if it was named? I've looked through my Milw. Rd. books but haven't found a reference to it yet. Most of my books deal with the east end so I may have to get some more books. Yea. You may also try the Milw Rd historical society. They have a web site by that name.

Capt. Fergie: How sweet it is! Actually this means that when anything goes you're it. Do you get more money for being in the fancy seat? Great job on the 2-10-2s.

Girls, make my dog with Cheese's sauerkraut. Actually I'd prefer a braughtwerst.

Colby: Those a nice pictures of a great looking place. I think that the BATF is looking for your cat.

Finally since Capt. Fergie is buying I'll have the top sirloin, medium, with baked potato and a garden salad. You might as well bring out a bottle of Merlot also. I night as well live it up.

Boy I got wordy tonight. I'll just sit back now and sip the wine and attack that steak.

Good Night All

JHey guys!

I haven't popped in a couple days, so I came.

I'll have a coke float-Yeah, coke. I hate rootbeer.

CPrail: My minimum radius is 22". Don't worry.

Garry: Yeah, I just re-did the flex track. I had it last time be about 24" radius for a bit, then it sharpened to about 18" for awhile... Didn't work well. I fixed it pretty close to 22". Doesn't matter much... If I do pull it off, it would come in November...

Jim: I don't have nor want hand cymbals. If I was ever mad, I'd sneak in with my 18" crash ride at night and hit it with my drum stick by your ear at 3 AM. WAKE UP CALL!

Well, gotta run,

Mark
