in a UP or AT&SF mug, please & thank you!

Working on removing building materials and tools today so I can start laying the livingroom floor soon. Perhaps by tonight I can take a look at the camelback project and figure out how to do the front end. Wish I had a clone to put to work work so the original "me" could concentrate on model train projects. Oh well!

***Jim, the particular glue I prefer is called :Click here for a larger image.Keep in mind, this is used for a true "Dwarf" of a miniature horse, about the size of a medium dog (at most). Our Pyrenees dwarf her. If you bring your index finger and thumb together, that is about the size of her tiny hooves. Not something anyone should ever breed for and most true dwarfs don't live past 2-3 months. Toons was born in Sept of 2004, so she is one of the lucky ones. Here is her story, which I need to update now that she is back to needing shoes once again: http://www.paintedhorses.homestead.com/tinytoons.html You can see her earliest shoes on the first page. (We no longer raise any horses or donkeys, large or small)

Mornin' All!

Gonna be a scorcher today buddy!

Here it is right now.

TODAY:  Heat and humdity will continue to place a tight grip on the area.  Highs should hit the lower 90's.  Humidity may be just a tad lower due to an extremely weak cold front that will briefly pass through the state.

WEEKEND OUTLOOK:  If you are looking for relief this weekend, you won't get much.  We may be a degree or 2 cooler, but still in the lower 90's.  There may be a slightly better chance of a few storms heading into Sunday, as a warm front will come back through the state.

EXTENDED OUTLOOK...MORE HEAT!  The pattern will stay hot for awhile.  Here is the upper level pattern by the end of the weekend.  The ridge of high pressure will settle on top of us, which will help bump the temperatures back into the mid 90's by the middle of next week.

Sounds like a good weekend to spend in the air conditioning!

Good Morning, Zoe. I saw Chloe heading out as I drove up. She's still driving that big motorcycle, right? I'll have some Ed's OJ, cup of coffee, and a couple of waffles, please.

Nigel Sign - Welcome [#welcome] (back, if I remember correctly) to the Diner. You've been in here before, haven't you? Have a cup of coffee; Grayson's buying for now.

Glad to see you back in the Diner, Inch. Sounds like you had an experience like Dick did with his ISP, but good that you got things working again. That area on the Maramec River where you're going is really nice - went there many years ago, and I have a few college friends who live in Sullivan, MO near there. You'll most likely enjoy that trip, I'm sure! Thumbs Up [tup]

Ah, what the heck, Zoe - let me have one of those chocolate donuts Bill T. brought in, please. Mmmm, sugar rush! Tongue [:P]

Started putting together some of the Walthers track bumpers last night. Fairly easy to do, though I was wondering when I started if I had enough hands. I'll need to paint & weather them, maybe this weekend. Now, where is that bottle of rust paint....?

Need to get going, so I'll see everyone later. We have a blood drive, so I'll be getting that in after dinner tonight. They're also giving away a T-shirt that says "Starve a mosquito - give blood!" (no, not the DeHaviland kind of 'squito)Wink [;)]

Blessings and hope your Friday is a Great one,

Morning, just coffee Zoe

SCOTT, Congrads on the job, know you've got a lot to learn, so pay attention and to stay safe.

STEVE, good looking kids and I'm sure they're plenty of help also. The layout seems to be moving right along and Ken L does do good work

CEDERSTAND, nice engine your building. I've seen a lot of horseshoes, even made a few. But don't think I've seen glue-on before. What kinda glue do you use, to hold them in place?

RT,, great to hear from you, I was starting to get concerned.. Did ya finda job there yet?

 pcarrell wrote:

Does what jog my memory?

DICK,, I've been around some, just not much to say. The Maramec river we're going to, is in MO, bout a 100 mile W of Cape Jim.

http://maramecspringpark.com/maramec/index.html

Here awhile back our internet went out, called ISP. Spent an hour on the phone doing this n that, and they decided the modem was bad and they'd send the local repairman out. Well he did come, so I called the local office to check on Jeff, the girls there said lighting had knock the server out that morning. One hand doesn't know what the other is doing, a 1000 mile apart.

JIM CG, good joke.

Need to get moving, grandkids be here in an hour, and some things are easier done without them

Good evening.  We had root beer floats for the beverage at the birthday lunch, so coffee will do.

Garry,  I found an old quad map that listed Milwaukee as one of the many RR listed for the line.  I will take my camera phone and try to capture the tunnel.

Rob,  Sorry about Hobo.  It is hard to loose a friend.

Scott,  Cool job.  Have fun with that.

Early start for the bike ride tomorrow, so off to bed.Zzz [zzz]

Evening Gang:

Rob: I'm really sorry to hear about Hobo. I know how you feel, I've been there many times.

Scoot:  That's great news about the job. You had me scared about half way through your post when you said that the interviewer mentioned that you were a railfan. I thought for sure you had shot yourselv in that foot by telling them that. You must'ent do that to us ORFs. We can't stand the stress, you know. I am very happy and proud of you.

Nothing real MRRie happening today. I've been goining through my books on the Milw Rd some more. I just can't get the possibility of doing Milwaukee depot out of my mind. Well I guess dreaming is a part of the hobby.

Grayson: A belated Sign - Welcome [#welcome] and thanks for the late night snack.

Time for bed.

On a more pleasant Sign - Off Topic!! [#offtopic] note, I got this sent to me this week, and wanted to share it with our dog lovers in the Diner.

How Many Dogs Does It Take To Change A Light Bulb?

1. Golden Retriever: The sun is shining, the day is young, we've got our whole lives ahead of us, and you're inside worrying about a stupid burned out bulb?

2. Border Collie: Just one. And then I'll replace any wiring that's not up to code.

3. Dachshund: You know I can't reach that stupid lamp!

4. Rottweiler: Make me.

5. Boxer: Who cares? I can still play with my squeaky toys in the dark.

6. Lab: Oh, me, me!!!!! Pleeeeeeeeeze let me change the light bulb! Can I? Can I? Huh? Huh? Huh? Can I? Pleeeeeeeeeze, please, please, please!

7. German Shepherd: I'll change it as soon as I've led these people from the dark, check to make sure I haven't missed any, and make just one more perimeter patrol to see that no one has tried to take advantage of the situation.

8. Jack Russell Terrier: I'll just pop it in while I'm bouncing off the walls and furniture.

9. Old English Sheep Dog: Light bulb? I'm sorry, but I don't see a light bulb!

10. Cocker Spaniel: Why change it? I can still pee on the carpet in the dark.

11. Chihuahua : Yo quiero Taco Bulb. Or "We don't need no stinking light bulb."

12. Greyhound: It isn't moving. Who cares?

13. Australian Shepherd: First, I'll put all the light bulbs in a little circle...

14. Poodle: I'll just blow in the Border Collie's ear and he'll do it. By the time he finishes rewiring the house, my nails will be dry.

Hope one or more of those resembles your favorite breed... Laugh [(-D] I'll be finishing up my hot cocoa over at the window booth. I heard Scott's going to be critiquing the conductor on the local when it comes through. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Blessings and prayers for those in need (especially in Minnesota),

Good evening!  Been working with Microsoft all afternoon, the problem with Outgoing emails is with the ISP...surprise...surprise!! They did not believe me, so I spent two hours AFTER supper on the phone with their 1st line techs, showing them that their own email service had the very same problem as the new Windows Mail ( successor to Outlook Express), and then had to show them that my wife's PC had the same problem and she runs Xp, not Vista like me, so the OS's were NOT the issue either......don't you just love the arguments with ISP's???  So the tech had me write an email to their ISP guru's, lets see what that brings.

SCOTT:  Man, I am as happy as you are !!!!! That is just GREAT news!!! Remember, many times people try to test prospective candidates to check their reactions, can they handle negative feedback, do they have the proper attitude, are they stable emotionally. You will be working in a very hazardous environment, BUT, one that can be worked a long lifetime if SAFETY comes FIRST and rules are followed.

MIKE: Where have you been lad ???? We had search parties out all over the railyard looking for you....did you fall asleep in a freight car bound for MA? You must have because you were fishing in the Merrimac River, that is located in Northeast Massachusetts, and southern New Hampshire!!!!!

STEVE: Good to hear from you again, your son and daughter look like they are ready to dive right in to modeling.

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! A plate full of cookies is all, please and thank you!

Thanks to all for the kind thoughts. It is much appreciated. Although running on fumes today, I managed to get done most of the tasks I wanted to, including the following:

This is the 0-6-0 Trix frame, all ground down with the additional 4 in the rear.

Here it is with Lima shell (missing bell at the moment). All that remains is to figure out how to add the 2 in front with cow catcher. Runs much smoother than the original Lima junk chassis & motor.

***Steve, your kids look thrilled. What a wonderful upbringing into the world of trains...good job!

***Scott, I knew you would land one of those jobs from reading your enthusiastic posts. "CONGRATS" Best thing about the horses YOU will be riding, is you can actually make money on them and YOU don't have to pay for their feed. Big Smile [:D] Excellent!

OFF TOPIC: Below is the new shoe design I made for the dwarf mini horse today, Tinytoons. They are glued on and she can walk flat on her back feet again. Should have taken a before pic of her standing so you could see the difference - without shoes her back feet rotate so severely that she walks on the sides of her hooves. (front feet are fine)

Going to go sit in a corner booth now and work on that plate of cookies. Cowboy [C):-)] Rob

Good Evening, Diners - Chloe and Zoe, nice touch with that banner for Scott. Love all the colors!

Way to go, future conductor, Scott! Get rested up for your physical, and as others have said, learn what you need to do as great a job there as you have in others in the past. Bow [bow]Thumbs Up [tup]Bow [bow] Ride 'em "Cowboy of the Rails!"

Hey Zoe, got any of those porterhouse steaks from yesterday still in the cooler? Great, cook me up one, and I'll have a root beer float while it's cooking.

Busy day at work - my co-worker David (who helps me cover walk-in and crisis) was off, and I finally got to lunch around 3 p.m. (and I usually get off at 4:30 or so). 'Nuther HOT day today - it was 95 when I went home for lunch, but it had dropped a whole degree to 94 (F) by the time I got home after work. Cool [8D] Thank Heaven indeed for air conditioning. But tomorrow I see outpatient clients...

(and, tomorrow it's FRIDAY!!!)

Ah, that steak looks great - think I'll chow down now. Dinner [dinner]

Good Evening All,

Finally got everything done for Lime Rock with help from the four not in Salt Lake this weekend. We'll have three cars at the track at the end of it and I'll go up tomorrow morning early so a bit of DPM building painting and off to sleep for me.

Scott - congrats on your new career. We have a bunch of old hands (retirees) at the museum and they to a man have no regrets about joining up.    CUL, J.R.

Howdy...

Scott. I'm excited for you.  As I said previously, both myself and my friend here (Gus) are retired with railroad backgrounds.  It's as good as any job can get. Stay with it and eventually your Railroad Retirement benfits will exceed those of your non-railroad friends by a substantial amount. Of course, all retirees should have saved their nest eggs, too. So thank the Lord and use your income wisely.  Learn all the rules and follow them.  Be Safe! BEST WISHES TO YOU SCOTT!

Well, I'll have some steak and lobster tails. It's celbration time.
