Good evening ladies and gents. Still and warm, with a waning moon. The emergency fix for our daughter’s balcony deck post went way better than I expected, including the re-laying of 15 (2ftx3ft) paving stones. Neighbourly help is great! Heard from TrolleyRob this evening. His VIA from Montreal was greatly delayed, and that has put all his holiday timetable for Nova Scotia out the window, or at least closed the window on our getting together with Luc and Gloria next Monday.
Paul:
Der that's a nice model of the Mesquito. Did you do it?
When I changed colors at work I'd just run some thinner or cleaner through the brush and switch bottles or pour the next color in the cup. I never had a problem. I did clean out the brush at the end of a session or when going on break. I also have a bunch of brushes so I could keep different colors and tip sizes at hand. Now of course I've got them all for modeling. He He
JR: That’s weird about the de-rails. The museum doesn’t demand a session log by the operators
Der - so the reverse loop on remote works ok? Mine are automated because I could never remember to throw the switches properly on the old layout. That's the other reason I,m considering using stationary decoders at least on the mainlines.
Scott, given the traffic difficulties, I’d say it’s a deal breaker. Let’s hope Thursday’s interview with NS is more flexible. That employment record is important, and yours is mighty fine up to now.
CPR:
does this diner serve Rolo ice cream?
UKSteve: Good to see you back in again. Have enjoyed the odd steam action video from time to time in those 10 months. On dial up they take a while to come in, but are always worth the wait. Thanks.
Mark:
Nothing to new here... just bored to death... Discovery is only airing shark stuff... stupid sharkweek... bring back the MYTHBUSTERS!
PC: Your Dinner looks awesome! Even though it’s late here, I’ll join you for a bedtime snack!
That’s it for today. Goodnight all, and God Bless. Prayers continuing, for those Korean hostages the Taliban abducted in Afghanistan, the bridge collapse people, all in need of healing, comfort and peace.
"There are always alternatives, Captain" - Spock.
Rob, sorry to hear about Hobo.
Paul, I hadn't heard about the bridge, so when you mentioned it I googled it. WOW! Theres a lot of hurting people tonight in Minneapolis! Big prayers for all of them!
Now, since Steve is buying, it's time for some dinner!
Evening Gang: That bridge collapse in Miniapoliss is something else. The steel seems to have given way like wet noodles. Our best wishes go out to those involved.
I finally finished mowing the pasture. I still have to go back and hit the areas around the Mesquite and the corners. Next is cutting the Mesquite and hauling it away. We use Mesquite down here for grilling all the time. It gives the meat a great taste. The Mesquite that is used is from large tree like bushes. I've seen funiture made out of Mesquite wood also and at least one gun stock. If anyone wants to come down they can have all they can cut and haul off. Please!
Well I'm still trying to avoid the new Hiawatha set that Walthers came out with. I'd like to do a model of the depot and train shed but where and how to find the time. I've hauled out most of my books on the Milwaukee Road. I must be nuts. Oh yea I'm a model railroader.
They just showed more film on that bridge collapse. One of the spans went down on the railroad tracks and some covered hoppers. I think that those tracks used to be Milw Rd but now are CN.
Well I guess I'll head for a both and chow down on one of those steaks.
Good Night All

Mark, I didn't include you because I didn't want to embarass you while you were eating.....but if you insist!
I WAS trying to be polite!
Please & just go ahead and hook it up IV style...very tired this evening. Would love to have some chocolate chip or sugar cookies if there are any left.
Ended up an errand day including required inlaw stuff, so never got to make shoes for Tinytoons OR finish the grinding on the Trix frame. Tomorrow, I AM staying home and expect to catch up on everything and have a photo to share of the Camelback project.
Off Topic: On a sad note, I just burried Hobo this evening. He was our oldest dog, one of two that came with the farm 10 years ago. We were his third owners and guess he was around 14 years old. Always sad to lose an old companion. Burried him in front of the old workshop out back. Now he can join Sheila, his life-long 3-legged companion we lost a couple years ago.
Our thoughts go out to all involved in that bridge collapse along the Mississippi.
Rob
Good Evening All,
Just hiding out here til the flames die down - one shouldn't try to be humourous with model railroaders I suspect.
Steve - welcome back and glad you stopped in. When will we see some pics of the new direction? Did you decide to stay put or are you still planning on bolting to Oz or settling in with the Kiwis' ?
Hoople if you are confused as to time zones that means every time is meal time, no? And I ditto your observation on shark week. I've been watching on and off all week and still no Baldwins -though Bachman is bringing some out soon.
To clear up the confusion, I have an HO layout at home !2' x 12' mopre or less and model the New Haven roughly freelancing the Danbury/ Norwalk line. At the museum (that would be the Danbury Railway Museum), I help with the model railroad displays which include N, HO, and O gage displays.
Recently I have been concentrating my efforts on getting the N gage sorted out and running reliably. That display is the Danbury railyard roughly circa 1950 with steam and diesel equipment. The display is older and not well braced though it is about 10' x 16'. The track is older Atlas nickel silver track and the turnouts seem problematic so we've soldered most of the points in place. Some of the base has moved over the years so that can be a problem as well as some of the more remote sections pulling up and needing to be reglued. Currently we use a DL-109 and an RS-3 for moving power whilst we sort through about 30 other units (about 10 of them New Haven) to see if we can fix them to run well again. One of the challanges is the sheer number of hours the units log as they are connected to push to run switches and the display is very popular with the younger set. They may also be jostling the display and causing some of our derailments, but bracing the table more will be difficult without major rework.
(And yes the HO display is New Haven based and we're working on subverting the O gage next). In fact the only O gage equipment I own is a Lionel New Haven ABA set.Well, back to painting the new buildings. Toodles, J.R.
Afternoon.
I won't eat anything now... I'm still on Eastern time... little confusing all over.
Steve: Welcome back! I don't remember you... I think I joined early august, so I might have met you once.
Well, see y'all later.
Mark

I'm modeling the late 20's - early 30's. Not a "D" word in sight! (I like them OK, but steam just rocks!)

That's actually the logo for the Belfast & Moosehead Lake RR that I'm basing my freelance Autumns Ridge Railway & Navigation Co. layout on.
Here it is a bit bigger.......
And here's a couple of variation's of it that they use sometimes.....
I'm still working on my logo.
Hey Steve!
Welcome back to the Diner!
Long time no see!
And since you are at the TOP but MIA for so long, I will pay for your dinner tonight! Just place your order and make it so Chloe!
Cheers,
Afternoon all,
Top of the page,,, recon it's my turn to pay, what do you fancy
How Ya'll doing, hope your all fit and well. I have not been in here for about 10 months or so, do you recon i can catch up on all the posts in an hour, i recon not, oh well. Nothing new here, the garage railroad has been and gone and is now growing once again but as a British railway set in the 1990's, the equipment available now is fantastic compared to five years ago so i have switched back to it.
Take care everyone

Nope, just covering all the bases!
Have a good time at Mount Katahdin!
Good afternoon everyone.
I just returned from camp and I am now down with the flu. Sore throat and fever combo, which means more time around the house (computer, trains, GameCube, etc.). getting back into the flow of things and hoping to be more active on the forums in a few days.
Now's a good time for a root beer float break. I'm catching up on non-mrr stuff today.
Scott ...... good luck wth NS or Amtrak. USA needs to get back on the tracks instead of wasting all that fuel on highway transport. You should do well. My friend, Gus, and I have RR backgrounds, and that Railroad Retirement is good to us now. It pays more than Social Security to retirees. Years will pass quickly; so use your money wisely because you'll be retiring faster than you can imagine.
Dick.... I like the steam excursion pictures. Do they serve strawberry rhubarb pie on board to passengers.
Ryan ... Zantac, eh.... hope it works.
Cheers everyone!

Good Afternoon. well I slept in till' 12:30pm. I didn't fall asleep untill 3am.
I am leaving for Mount Katahdin Tomorrow!!! I'll bhe gone till sunday. Pics garinteed!
Good afternoon folks!
Chloe, I'll have a half a Muffalatta! Oh, and a root beer float like the one Dick had yesterday!
Yum, great idea adding that New Orleans sandwich to the menu!
Garry - Stomach pump not necessary... (Burp!)...just have to remember to take the Zantac before bed... (Hick-up!)
Philip - Thanks for putting up that banner! Looks real nice hanging over the back booth!
Dick - Not the lead, but getting closer. And yes, SMTP means Simple Mail Transfer Protocol, and I used to support a Linux Send Mail Server at my previous job. Shoot me a PM for your questions. And you know, the sun does seem stronger lately, got to stay inside more now! And the latest photos are great! I bet some of them were surprised to the live steam at the crossing!
Scott - I like the photos from Amtrak! If you get the job, did they tell you what kind of work you would be doing? Did you interview for a specific position, or was it a general "get to know you" interview? And good luck with the NS interview!
Jeff - Power Up! Glad to hear you are back to normal!
Der - Nice photo of the mesquito, it reminds me of a model I built years ago!
Paul - Be careful around those mesquito bushes, them props could cut you up! LOL
Duke - Only 9 weeks + 3 days until Apex!
Mornin' y'all.
Thanks for the luck on the NS interview everyone...However, that is tomorrow. Bright and early in the morning at 8:00am. I will be making the drive into Baltimore today so that I know where I'm going and won't be late tomorrow.
J Der: Amtrak said that the two hour call-in time is a very strict policy. If I'm late due to traffic every now and then, it ain't the end of the world. If I'm late frequently, almost immediate termination...I'm not sure if I want to risk taking the Amtrak job and ruining my job record because traffic on the beltway is horrible at any time of day.
Rob: Oh trust me...Y'all will know when I get my job with the railroad.
Jim in CG: It's Thursday (now tomorrow), and thank you.
Jerry & Dick: Glad you enjoyed the photos!
I'm out y'all.
Scott - Dispatcher, Norfolk Southern
Good morning, another hot day forecasted, and the Dew point is creeping UP, so plenty of Mango iced tea will be needed in the Diner today.
PAUL: That is good to hear regarding the airbrushing, as I have never done that before. Plenty of experience with spray cans and paint brushed though..LOL
JEFF: Glad to see the boss has more work lined up, that pays for PS without tapping into the LHS $$
SCOTT: Thank you for the photos from your 1st interview, they came out excellent, and good fortunes on your next interview. You may become the youngest Conductor in the Diner!!!

Good Morning, Diners! Zoe, some scrambled eggs, cup of coffee and a glass of Ed's OJ, please - thanks.
Ed, we'll be looking forward to the new crop once it's ready and heading up this way in the OJ tanker run.
JR, your problem sound puzzling. Do you have any cats in the house (or neighborhood) that could get into the train area?
Rob, hope things go well on completing that loco conversion. Your skills are apparently way beyond mine.
Der, good to see you back in the Diner. Nice pic of the Mesquito.
Scott, is your NS interview today or Thursday? (I was thinking it was Thursday for some reason) Either way, we'll be keeping that one also in our
