Afternoon all -

It's a balmy 54 outside right now, after a morning low of 30. Suppose to hit 56 by 2pm and be back down to 51 by 5pm.

Well all, I just stopped by to get a nice think malt shake to go (have work to do that requires immediate attention - ya'll know how that is in the military...Hurry up and wait?!?)

Take care!

(EDIT: Looks like I got TOTP honors today! Enjoy and don't go to hard on my cc.)

Hunter - When we met in January of 2000, you were just a 6 week old pup who walked his way into this heart of mine as the only runt in the litter who would come over to me. And today, I sit here and tell you I am sorry we had to put you down. It was the best thing for you and also the right thing to do. May you now rest in peace and comfort. Love, Dad. 8 June 2010

I love you and miss you Mom. Say hi to everyone up there for me. Rest in peace and comfort. Love, John. 29 March 2017

Howdy all. I'll have some scrambled eggs, sausage, hashbrowns, and a medium orange juice.

Thanks for the comments on my layout room. I already have a basic benchwork design down. Now I need to start the actual design of the layout. If I could show you, I would. I don't have a scanner yet.

I have a few questions? How does one get a good design drawn on paper. I have the CTT Inc. HO Scale template, and I need some pointers on the best way to use it. Also, I have Xtrkcad and know if you register it you can design larger layouts with it. Does it cost anything after you register it?

Today, Jan. 4, 2007, I'm getting rain. The area south of Jasper, southeast of Woodville, and west of Louisiana. Well, the "Deep Piney Woods" if you want specifics.

Until later,

I think its pretty obvious that I do, but I'm not sure this is the right place to discuss that.  If you want to talk about that just Email me.  It's one of my favorite subjects to talk about actually.

I do hope you weren't posting from class though, because school is important.

Hi Gang: I went to the doctor this morning. He thought that it may have been something I ate. Anyway I'll go back to work tomorrow.

JR. That's is tragic about that young man. Do they have any idea what caused that?

The weather here has been warm also. It's in the upper 40s and fog and drizzel. Not the normal for here. I'd really like to see some frezzing and maybe snow. The bugs and weeds need tobe frozzen out some.

Robert: Good going on the right of way. That is eenough space to keep you busy and out of trouble for awhile. By the way, did you salvage anything else out of the fire?

Well I'm going to go to bed for awhile. I'm still run down.

See you all later.

JR, sorry to hear about your friend, especially sad over the holidays when someone dies.

eBay, yea I was disappointed trying to sell my 2 Conrail GE's.  I put them up at 50% of the new price and got nothing and they only had maybe 2 hours of running time on them. I use to be able to sell almost anything on eBay, maybe everyone's wallets are a little tighter these days or someone doesn't like Conrail, LOL.

I just counted 13 buildings that need assembled.  Dee Dee (girlfriend) said she would help, we shall see how that goes but something tells me she will want me to remodel her kitchen in return, LOL

Dee Dee has really taken an interest in the trains.  She is pushing me to get the mainline up and running because she wants to run a train.  I might have to run her out to a model train club or a friend's house so she can give it a try.  We had our first serious discussion last weekend:  I plan on naming my passenger service for the L. S. & W. "The Dorothy May" and we had a difference of opinion on the script for the rolling stock, LOL.

If anybody wants it I have "Railroad Roman" true type font.  Just shoot me an email at lswrr@ameritech.net and I'll send it to you.  I got it from http://www.download.com/ as freeware.

It was 50 degrees here today, normal daily high should be about -10 to 35.

Paul, we haven't sorted through it yet. Been waiting on a fire/police official to say we can. Don't want to damage any evidence if they are still investigating. And, yep, I got a pretty good size layout room, plus a work room in addition to it. PTL!!!

True, but I put them up for sale in November.  November is a pretty good month for "toys".  I'll try again when people are getting their tax returns.  Is there a "swap" group anywhere online, I would rather just swap them for something I could really get some use out of.  Matter of fact I have several items that won't fit my 1952 theme for my layout.  I've already swapped out a powerplant and some odd and end contemporary buildings with my neighbor.

In May I bought an Athearn Genesis USRA 4-6-2 Light Pacific only to find out that the drive gear on the axle was broken. Naturally, I ordered a new drive wheel assembly. It finally came in today. Hopefully I'll be able to install it this weekend. Those tiny screws are going to be tricky.

Grayfox: That was a pretty fair distance off. We were never under a tornado watch or warning here. The storm made like Conrail and split, going to the east and west of us. All we got was a long slow soaking rain.

Let's see, I'll have the bacon and eggs this morning.

Jeff, I had two of the Athearn mikes, one ran great for about a month then samething happened the cheap main gear just fell apart, the other mike was bad from day one, drivers where all out of whack send it in, came back 2months later, but after a month same thing the main drive gear broke in half. The gear was made of that cheap nylon plastic. Then like a dummy I pick-up one of the 4-6-2's runs ok but can only pull one combine,up a 2% grade my BWL light mike can pull 16 freight cars up the same grade.

Well last day of vac. I was at grandcrossing at 2:30 this morning there was a east bound just getting ready to pull out from changing crews 6 NS GE's had a huge mixed freight, 108 cars.

Started putting two Walthers backshops kits together for a freind of mind, they have been sitting in the basement now for about 6 months so I thought it was time. He's getting alittle antsy, I told him a could be awhile, i'm doing them for free, if i where being paid i would do them asap. When these are done thats it for other peoples stuff, I have way to much of my own to do.

Have a good day all of you that have to work today, i'll be thinking of you while playing I mean working in the basement. ( tomorrow you can all pick on me, when I have to get up at 3:00am for work and your off.)

Fargo: The Athearn steamer I have had the same problem as your Mikado. It had that cheap nylon gear in it. It didn't break, it just spins on the axle. The replacement drive assembly I got yesterday has a brass gear. I hope this works better than the other one did (not at all). I have no idea how much it can pull, but it's a heavy brute.

Morning Gang:

This is just a quick one to say HI. I'm back at work and feeling pretty good. Almost normal, what ever that is.

I've got an Athern light mike but haven't run it enough to have any problems. If something does go wrong with the gear at least I'll be expecting it.

The scooter should be warmed up enough so I'd better get going.

See you all later.

Our Historic Engines Need Help!!!!!!

In 2004, the MNGRR's Steam Program fell under the jurisdiction of the Federal Railroad Administration. This means all four of our steam locomotives now have to go through a thorough inspection. FRA mandated upgrades must then be completed before a locomotive is allowed to run. At the start of 2004, the MNG used its available funds to put Monson Railroad engine #4 through the FRA process. To this day, number 4 is our only available locomotive. The museum has since set aside funds to put Bridgton and Harrison engine #7 through the same process. Since #7 is much bigger than #4, the cost for rehabilitating engine 7 exceeds what the railroad can currently afford. We estimate it will cost between $25,000 and $30,000 to put #7 back on track. We will not start the restoration work until we have the sufficient funds to complete the project. We need your help! A Maine native, #7 is a 1913 Baldwin built for the Bridgton and Saco River Railroad. Weighing in at 33.5 tons, #7 is a 2-4-4RT type locomotive that hauled passengers and freight in New England for nearly 100 years! After her career in Maine, in 1947, she went to the Edaville Railroad in South Carver Massachusetts as founder Ellis D. Atwood's first engine! She made her return to Maine in 2002. She saw occasional service at the MNG in 2002 and 2003, but has not turned a wheel under steam since. Please consider a tax-deductible donation to put this engine back into service! Checks should be made out to the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad. Most importantly, be sure to include a note indicating that the check is for the "Engine 7 Fund." You can also click the donate link on the left, and during the payment process you may specify "Engine 7 Fund" in the memo field. If you have any questions about #7 or our steam program, please contact Mike Moulison at  captmike331@aol.com.

 Mail to

Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad

58 Fore St.

Portland, Maine 04101

Any of you could help out?? I'll get pics of the engine so that you will know what you money in being used for.

Nope, not a thing!  Gotta fix that problem, huh?  I see that I have to keep up with the Jones'!  Got a train show to go to this weekend and then I teach also, so I'll have to try to squeeze it in.
