Jim: Here's what I use:

I placed the original casting face-up in the bottom of a plastic box measuring 1 1/2 inches wide x 5 1/2 inches long and 1 1/2 inches deep. I poured the latex rubber in to a depth of 1 1/4 inches. The latex contracts slightly as it sets. I purposely made the mold large, I wanted it to be stiff enough to hold it's shape while in use.

Those don't look too bad. Especially with a little color added, can't tell the difference.

Hi Zoe, thought I'd stop in for a root beer float on a nice warm afternoon.

Thanks.

Jeff, I'll be looking forward to seeing your progress pics on the wall. What kind of material(s) you use for making your mold?

Looked like the Diner was slipping down page one (not quite to page two... yet), so time for a bump. Smile [:)]

I'll be in the window booth, checking out the afternoon local switching over there.

Recently I was given a plaster casting of a stone wall section.

I want more so I made a latex rubber mold.

I have plaster in the mold at this time. I'll wait several hours before removing the casting.

Good afternoon, Zoe - I'll have a burger and a Dr. Pepper, please.

Thanks, Dick. Sounds like your garden has been doing well this summer. Thumbs Up [tup]

Another good day here in the Heartland - a bit cool today, but warm enough. We don't have the clouds that we had yesterday, at least. Yeah!! [yeah]

Sue, that's a low water table - only 2-1/2 feet? That's as bad as down in the Missouri Bootheel (but then again,it used to be swampland until they drained it many decades ago - I hear)!

I'll be working on my burger at the corner booth if anyone needs me.

Blessings,

What a beautiful Fallish day here in New England....62F, 47% RH with a DP of 41F, nice dry warm air ( at least in the sun ).

Got all the garden hoses put away for the season, and picked most of the butternut squash, some where not quite ripe yet, looks like we have about 2 bushels. The peppers and broccoli are still producing as well as the cherry tomatoes, so I didn't pull those plants up yet, as the long range weather looks like no cold weather for at least the next 10 days.

FERGIE: I have some butternut squash to send to NS via your MESS box car, send Digby scallops on return trip.

ED: One carload of Butternut squash is on it's way to Tuxpan.....one tanker on return trip with 18K gallons of OJ.

JEFF: Can you handle the dispatch and invoices please?

Well, lunch is over, time to get back outside and finish cutting the grass, maybe I'll get some time later in the Train Room, I have some photos to take.

See you later at lunch

Good morning.  Coffee, please.

It rained all day yesterday, but today looks a little better.

Thanks for the advice, Dick.  There is a section of fence that I am heading out to work on this morning. If I wait too long, I will be standing in water while I repair it.  I usually dig down 3 feet for posts, but I hit water at 2 1/2 feet on one Thursday.

I will check in this afternoon.

Good morning, been a few days since I stopped in for a coffee, been real busy here tending the west "40". We finally had some rain, 1.16", and everything turned green again.

I have been able to get more done in the train room, the latest being shelving under the 30" wide sections. This will serve two purposes: the first is shelving to store things like took box and supplies, the second being.........a nice place to lie on my back when I do work under the layout like wiring. I even have a pillow to prop my head up so as not to get a stiff neck. I had left over pieces of 3/4" plywood, so I figured this would be strong enough for a layout room "bed". LOL

Last night the temp got down to 41F, so I guess I had better get the butternut squash harvested before we get spots all over the squash.

JWAR: A belated welcome John, Zoe will bring you a coffee and doughnut on me, lunch is on Jeff. Sign - Welcome [#welcome]

MIKE: Congrats grandpa !!!!  What a little cuttie she is......better keep Thomas the Train handy. I'll bet you had the Pellet stove ON last night !!!!

LUC: I used the rest room in the Diner this morning and I get this feeling that I'm falling!!!

FERGIE: Yes, the ocean water temps are definitely having an effect on the course of the hurricanes and tropical storms this year, keeping them well south of their normal tracks. Good move with the school board, this is not an isolated case, it seems to be in every school district lately.

JEFF: Did you do that artistry in the Diner restroom for LUC?? It looks like your handywork.

PAUL" Is it ever going to stop raining in Texas? Did you get your haying done?

SUE: Snow will come early this year, better get those poles in the ground soon.

Time to get going, lots to do today, see you guys at lunchtime,

Mornin, coffee n a short stack Zoe

Suppose to warm today and all this week, back into the 80's. Had the heat on this weekend and now we'll run the AC

BOB K ,,, good to hear from ya and you'll make it through this just fine. You might ought to take your friends advice; a little train time could do you some good

GARRY, I've been following the CP-DM&E story in the Trains Magazine thread. Some interesting post and personal views there. Here's a link,  http://www.trains.com/trccs/forums/1210248/ShowPost.aspx

ED,, those tamales sure sound good. I was stationed with a guy from Mexico, him and his wife use to make them sometimes. The same way, only they used leaves from corn. Mighty fine eaten.

JERRY / JIM CG / N SCALER,, I'll be nice and not say any thing bout the Cubs/Cards game yesterday.

Went up to sis's for a cookout yesterday, was good to see the family. We haven't seen much of each other this summer, just all to busy with stuff. Here's what my mama and my brother n sister look like, I'm the taller one

My brother found out, he has to get a new pace maker put in. He's so not happy; it'll be his third one. And mom has to get another cauterization for a blockage, just don't know when for sure on that.

Best get moving; Leroy will be here before long. Bout the time he gets on the bus, J Bird will be here. Hope ya'll has a gooden n stay safe

Evening, Diners! I'll have some strawberries and vanilla ice cream, please, with a cup of coffee.

Thanks!

Was that Flip's dust-trail heading out of town as I was going in? About so fast it reminded me of this guy...

Don't know if it's still true, but I think at one point in the past, they cut back some on Flip's hours, but the way they did it was to have him work a morning block and then be off some hours in the middle of the day, then work later in the afternoon. Kinda not a nice way to treat your employees - just my My 2 cents [2c]...Angry [:(!]

Supposedly we hit the 70's today, but it felt cooler than that to me. Clouds played peek-a-boo with the sun over the afternoon. I finally got my iTunes library backed up; I've been having problems with the CD-R discs I bought. Ended up with 17 discs that didn't complete burning and/or gave medium write errors, to get 17 good discs (and they were SONY's, which I would've thought should have done better than that. Grumpy [|(]Angry [:(!]

Need to get going; have to do some re-arranging in the apartment tonight.

Blessings,

***Paul, how about making a maintenance tank car that sprays the track with weedkiller as it is pulled around once a month (or whatever interval is required) to keep your tracks weed free?

Evening Gang: What was that streak that just went through here? Oh it was Flip?  Hi Flip, good to see you again. At least I think I saw you.

Jerremy: You are really into multitasking.

Ed: Maybe you could tack on a reefer load of those tamales on the next shipment of OJ.

I spent the afternoon spraying the 7.5 gauge track with round up. You don't have to clean it like HO but you do have to control the grass and weeds. Believe me cleaning track is easyer. I did finally break down and buy a spot sprayer that has an electric pump. Just hook it to a 12 volt source like a car battery, and spray away. Much easyer then pumping and the tank holds 25 gals. instead of 2.

BobK: It's good to see you back. I hope to see more of you.

Well it's bed time.

Good Night All

Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,

Another beautiful day down here in Paradise.  Cool [8D]  Being happy that the football season has started again, I spent the afternoon with one eye on the tv, and one eye closed (cat napping).  Zzz [zzz]  I need to post this earlier than usual this evening as I plan on spending the evening watching the Red Sox vs Yankees on tv.

Steve - glad to hear that the a/c problem will get fixed this week.  I wouldn't last long without a/c.

...the thought of home made tamales just makes my mouth water.
Yeah, they're good.  I suppose I should clarify (for the benefit of any who have eaten too many meals at a Monterrey House style restaurant) that Veracruz style tamales bear no resemblance to those dry, cornhusk wrapped things that sometimes show up on a "Mexican Platter".  Here the corn meal is rather finely ground, and generously cut with lard, resulting in a very smooth batter.  Then filled with a chunk of meat (usually pork) and a spicy sauce, wrapped in a banana leaf and steamed.  Yum!  Dinner [dinner]
Oh, the Bohemia Cerveza was good, too!
Agreed.  Better taste and more body than your average Mexican beer.

Flip - good to see you stopping by, even if it's just a brief post.  Still working lots of overtime?

Bob - also good to see you stopping by again.  Yeah, progress at anything is usually not a straight line.

That's about it for now.  I'm going to watch the game.

Hasta mañana,

Ed

***Luc, that isn't yours, is it? Have seen some similar 3D effects created on floors some years ago and they impress the heck out of me. Have always wanted to do one for myself, but must spend time on paintings to sell.

Hope everyone is having a great day!

Last night I put down ballast on blocks 4, 4A and 4B of my layout. I still have to go through and pick the ballast of the sides of the rails.

Hi all,

Haven't been in for some time. Been doing sort of OK. Just been lurking about here and there. I will need some time to check on what everyone's been up to these days. I see some new faces here, or at least new to me. Welcome or welcome back.

Kind of regressed a bit- one step forward and then 2 back. But we've been dealing with all the going back to college and the like. My youngest recently moved into the dorm for her first year at UMass, Amhearst. That's just a 20 minute drive north of the "Big E" Springfield show.....up the interstate 91.

I haven't even been to the club much these days, Paul3 even posted a reminder for me to get my butt back there, especially for club operations. The continued scenery is another story- your heart needs to be into it or I won't even be satisfied with the results later on.

I know it'll all come back sometime.

Luc...... thanks for link.  It'll be interesting to see how the Powder River Basin coal plays out. I recall that DM&E was denied access to Powder River Basin by the Surface Transportation Board. The Wyoming coal was exclusively CB&Q (later BN) business.  ICC allowed C&NW to build a line there, and later that became UP.

Hello everyone.......

Paul:  Here's what I have on C&S 2-6-0's.  It's all printed in books... Colo. Rail Annual 12, South Park Line (1974), table of engine numbers (not just 2-6-0's) for C&S predessor roads and C&S., photos of locos when in service. ......... The Mineral Belt - Volumes I and II (1977 and 1978), drawings of Cooke 2-6-0 ... D SP & P #71 (later C&S #8),  numerous photos of locos when in service. ...... I have more Colorado books to look thru...... I inherited these from my Dad who was an active live steamer and also a fan of Colorado narrow guage.  I recall that Dad purchased many books from Colorado RR Museum's book store. That museum may be a likely source for info today. Also, I have a freind in Paducah (moved from Texas) who is a great source for old railroad books. I could see how someone would like those little locos and choose to model one. Neat engines!

Diners:  I am drinking my coffee this morning from a C&S coffee mug that was my Dad's. It may have also been a purchased from the Colo. RR Museum long ago.

Canadian Pacific fans:  CP has a bid of $1.8 billion on the table to buy Dakaota, Minnesota & Eastern.  I wonder if they will renew efforts of DM&E to gain access to Wyoming coal fields.

Happy model railroading

Mornin, biscuits n sausage gravy an coffee, Janie

Not as cold this morning and suppose to be back into the 70's this afternoon. Yesterday was a cold one with that north wind and the fire in the stove sure felt good.

Thanks for the congrads on Kylie, and she will be spoiled rotten with being the only girl and 4 brothers.  We've got 23 grandkids now and it's hard to believe our oldest is 17 now and still likes to sit on grandpas lap and watch football.

JERRY / JIM CG and N SCALER, I'm almost sorry bout the earlier comments on Fri. nights game with the Cards, I just couldn't help myself. Another game this afternoon, hope we can take the series if Marquis doesn't choke again.  And curses can be broken [now where's that goat]..

GARRY,, Kris n Missy live in Paris, Kylie was just born in Champaign, because of his state employees  insurance.

JIM CG, I can't tell what was on the back and I don't remember now. One thing I can say is, if you get caught by a train in Villa Grove it's still takes 20 minutes to get cross the tracks when their switching into the yard. Bout as bad as when the C&EI owned it.

PAUL,, one place I work there was only 4 of us, all named Mike, all related. Drove our boss [Willard] nuts some days, he'd holler and we'd all answer.

STEVE,, don't know bout the train interests yet, but I'm sure she will, her dad n brothers do, and grandpa can help some with that.

FLIP,, good the hear from ya again. Hope things slow down enough for ya stop n visit more.

Going to be gone most of today, we're having a birthday party for my mom 73, my brother 50 and a nephew 7, at my sister's house south of Montezuma, IN.

Best gets round, hope ya'll has a gooden n stay safe
